Unexpected Surprises
I look down at the carton confused as I stand in the Korean Grocery store. "Maybe moving here was a bad idea." I say out loud to myself as I put the carton back on the shelf. An arm reaches over me and I freak out thinking that they were going to grab me, losing my footing and the weight of my basket flings me backwards. "Woh!" A voice yells as they grab a hold of me, catching me in time. He begins to talk to me in Korean as he helps me to my feet.
Once I find my footing I look at him and almost lose my footing again. Oh God, he's cute. He continues to talk to me in Korean.
"Oh.. I don't speak.. Korean." I say in a shy tone as the blood in my veins start to pump quickly causing me to feel nauseous. It was really embarrassing that I almost fell.. and that I don't speak Korean. Honestly, what's the point of me coming here if I don't know anything or anyone? There's no point, I should just go back home. "Oh. You are.. American?" He asks, taking my mind off my thoughts. Yeah. I look American all right, just a little white girl. Yup. I nod looking back at the milk, trying not to let him see my face turn red. "I am so sorry if I scared you." I look at him quickly "No, it's completely fine." His face turns into a relieved and sincere expression. "So, you're okay?" He asks with a slight Korean accent.
He knew English very well, and it made me feel a little more at home being that since I've gotten here everyone talks to me in Korean. Even though it's clear that I don't know it, or when they do try to talk to me in English their accent makes it too hard to understand what they're saying. Getting off topic again.
I smile showing off my straight teeth. He smiles back almost causing me to almost completely lose it. A bunny smile? How does that even exist? How is that physically possible? Can he get any cuter? He turns back to the milk. "So. I'm guessing you'll need help with your grocery's." He says glancing at me and I sneak a peak at him. "I can find everything just fine." God I hate that I'm so stubborn. "So what does this say?" He asks me pointing to a random row of lines and symbols that I assumed was Korean writing.
I stare at it for a while as my face heats up once again. "I mean, I can figure it out by the pictures on what it is." I say. He chuckles, "So, if you were to look at this, you'd know what it is?" He asks he shows me some random grocery produce that has many confusing pictures making it impossible for me to think of what it could be.
"That's what I thought." He laughs his amazing laugh. "So besides the fact that you can't tell products from their pictures. What milk do you prefer?" He asks. "2%" I say trying not to sound nervous, and ignore the fact that he's teasing me. He laughs, he obviously noticed. I look at him, "What's so funny?" He looks at me with a smile still plastered on his face, then it goes away. "Nothing." He says. He hands the carton to me. "Thanks." I say placing it on my basket and at the same time turning toward the end of the aisle. I hear steps hurry behind me.
"Wait. I can help you with all your groceries. It's the least I can do for almost dropping you." My heart pounds and I try so hard not to stutter. "If it wouldn't be any trouble. It would actually be of great help..." I say looking down at my list making sure that there wasn't anything embarrassing on it. He smiles, "No, I don't mind ", he says taking the list from my hand. He then chuckles, "Cause you weren't getting anywhere by looking at pictures." He says and I give him a look but he starts for one of the aisles and I scurry after him.
"So. What are you doing here in South Korea? If you don't mind me asking. " He asks me as he grabs a item that was on my list and places it in my basket, then grabs it from my arm. I try not to freak out as his hand touches mine. I can't get too comfortable with this guy, he's a stranger. Even if he was a cute stranger, doesn't change anything. "Umm.. Well.. I moved here a couple days ago, but I'm only staying for a year. To just experience different Cultures.. Try different foods.. Then after I leave here I want to move somewhere else.. And do the same thing"
I look down at a bag of 'chips' that had a weird looking picture on it and set it back down on the shelf. Yeah, looking at pictures wouldn't have helped at all. "But I have a strong feeling that I should have studied the language. I guess I didn't think of it that much. I came for adventure and surprise." I say looking up at him, his face looked soft and his hair looked like it felt like a cloud. "How's that going so far?" He asks. "Good." I answer. He had stopped in his tracks and was looking at me. "Well. I think that's nice. We have many cuisines here and you're just in time for the Blossoms." He says looking back at the shelf.
He grabbed three bags of chips and set them in the basket, and it made me wonder if I had put that many bags of chips on my list. Knowing me, I probably did. I'm such a snackaholic. "Its always nice to know someone when you go to a new place.." I look away from a box of small cookies when we entered a new aisle and look at him. "You know me now." He says smiling. God I almost fainted, if this was the way to get cute guys to talk to me. Count me in! "That's great." I smile.
And he continued to add items to the basket. Then I finally realized that he was putting his own groceries in the same basket as mine. Why? I have no idea. I've also noticed that I don't know this guys name! I've been walking around the store with him for a little over thirty minutes and I don't know his name, wow.
Once he got everything from the list we head over to the register. I started to get just a little antsy from not knowing his name, I felt kind of stupid for not asking when he asked me what milk I liked. "Thank you so much. It means a lot." I say reaching for the overfilled basket, still not asking his name. He pushes it out of my grasp and sets it on the convair belt. I look at him and he takes out his wallet as the young man behind the register starts scanning the items. Surprisingly his name tag was in English, his name was Seth. "No. I can pay for my own groceries." I say reaching into my purse to get my money.
He touches my hand sending chills through every cell in my body. It was like those stupid movies I watched back in Cali where the characters always fall in love right away. I need to stop being so over dramatic. "No. Don't worry about it." He says with a smile, that smile. Why is it so bunny like? "But.." He speaks over me with a sweet tone. "I got it " Seth looks at me with a smile as he starts to scan the groceries that this guy is paying for. He was cute too and I look down at my shoes. I feel heat rise in my cheeks. I look up and Seth is no longer looking at me. "Oh... Thank you." I tell the young man that had helped me with my groceries. He just grins at me and waits for the cashier to tell him the total.
Seth punched in the total and smiles at me again, damn cute guys everywhere. Maybe Asian men is the way to go, I've been too into Latinos lately. Oh no no, caucasian, Channing Tatum, mhmm. Okay, off topic again. Seth, the cashier, says the total in Korean as he looks at the young man and then looks at me winks causing my cheeks to heat up. This guy is just playing with me, eh!
"Thank you. For helping me.." I say reaching for the bags of groceries as we had walked out of the store. He pulls them away from me and I look at him odd. What's up with this guy? Why doesn't he want to leave me alone? Why is he generous? "Where's your car?" He asks with a hand full of the bags as he looks out towards the busy street. "I don't have a car. I walked here." He looks away from the street and looks down at me. "You walked here by yourself??" he asks completely concerned.
My eyebrows go up, I'm surprised about his reaction to my response. Yeah, of course I'm going to walk here, what else was I supposed to do? Fly here? But of course I don't tell him that. "Yeah. What's wrong with that?" I ask crossing my arms over my small chest. He peers down on me with a sincere look. "What's wrong is that.. A girl shouldn't be walking around alone. I mean, I'm not saying its unsafe in this area. But you can never be too sure.." He comes closer to me. "Let me at least walk you home. Please. It would make me feel better." I look away from his eyes that were staring right into mine intensely.
"I don't even know you. And you don't know me. You're a stranger. And why would it make you feel better?" He swings out his hand, grocery bags hanging from his arm. "Hi I'm Jeon Jung Kook, and I'm concerned for a girl who is alone. And you are?" I stare at his hand for a while. "Abigail Thomas.. But you can call me Abby." I grab a hold of his hand. "So. Abby.. Let me walk you home." He looks into my eyes again and I couldn't help but say "okay." And he smiles finally as if relieved with my answer.
**
"So welcome to Casa de Abby" I say unlocking the door to my new apartment. He walks in after me. "Can I set these down?" He asks and I run over to my slightly cluttered kitchen and move the box from the small counter area. He places the bags on the counter. "I'm so sorry about the mess.." He looks around the small kitchen. "What mess?" He chuckles. He looks around with free arms and I follow his gaze to the only box on the floor.
"You call one box a mess?" He laughs as he looks a me. I blush "yeah.." I say staring at the box, I really have to go through it later. He separates the groceries from his and mine. I offer him a drink. "Please sit. At least for a while." I suggest. The grocery store is about four or five blocks away from my apartment. And even when I offered to carry a bag, he said no. He looks at my couch and finally decides to take a seat. "Fine" he says as he flops down on my black couch in my tiny living room. "Are you sure you don't want a drink maybe..." , "Don't worry about it Abby." He says.
The way he said my name made my legs weak, I need to stop with this. I barely met this guy, ugh, but he's so cute. I just can't help it. I take out two cups and fill them with water. I turn and almost run into his hard body. "I said don't worry about it.." My face grows hotter than an oven. "I'm just trying to be a good host." I say handing him a cup. He smiles, "Thanks." he takes a sip of the water as he still looks into my eyes. My face stained red from my nervousness, who does this guy think he is? He better back up before he gets smacked up. I take a sip of my water and lean against the counter and look away from his gaze as I feel him still looking at me.
I hear him come closer to me as his shoes click against the tiled floor. I look up from my cup and his face is in front of mine. Even though I had just drank a mouth full of water my throat still managed to become dry. Is this guy okay? Does he have a staring problem? Does he know anything about personal space?
A small smirk appears on his face and I can't help but look away from his gorgeousness. "What's wrong Abby?" I look at him right away. "Nothing" I say. "Okay." He says with a small grin and turns towards my couch. He knew what he was doing. "Is there something wrong with me?" I ask, his eyes widen and I almost laugh out loud. "No, of course not. Why would you ask?" I fight back laughter, "cause of the way you were looking at me.", "Oh, no um.." he stutters. I finally let out a laugh, "I'm playing with you Jungkook." I say making him blush and chuckle.
It was quiet for a while until he finally he speaks up again. "Have you seen anything here in South Korea?" He asks as he sits on my couch again. I bite my lip and look into the dark pit of my cup. "No. I don't really know what to see exactly. ... I guess.. I kinda came here looking for a surprise. And plus, I didn't want to get lost going going off by myself."
I look at the picture I had put on my refrigerator of my family and I. "There's much to see here. I'd be glad to show you places." I had then realized that he wanted to see me again. I wasn't much of an interesting girl, why would this hot guy I barely met today, be asking to see me again? Unless I'm seeing this all the wrong way. "Oh... I don't know, I don't want to be a burden." He places the cup on my small table that centered the living room.
"I invited you. You wouldn't be a burden." He says glancing at me. I place my cup behind me on the counter and I fix my shirt. "If you insist..." I say in a low tone. He smiles "Good." I look at him and he seeks at his watch. He stands up and picks up the cup and heads over to me.
He places the cup in the sink and he's pressed up against me. Shouldn't I be worried? But I'm not. "I have to go." He says in a whisper as he's close to my ear. My body wants to fall to the floor at that moment. I look at him and our faces are inches away. "Its okay..." I say looking into his eyes. His eyes seemed to focus on my lips. I bite my bottom lip testing him, cause I'm just a tease like that. He slowly tilts his head and leans forward.
I place my finger on him mouth as it was inches away from mine, to the extant that I can feel his warm breath on my cheek. Wow, this guy's already expecting a kiss and we just met. But aye, his lips are so soft. "You should go..." I whisper.
He looks into my eyes and then to my mouth again as my finger is the only thing that separate our lip contact. He takes a huge step back as if he had regretted what he was planning to do. He runs his fingers through his hair and he slowly bites his bottom lip making me want to just kiss him right then and there.
"You're right. I should go." He says in a low toned voice. "I'll walk you out." I say as I walk over to the door. I open it and turn towards him but he walks straight out. He turns, standing on the one and only step that leads into my apartment. "So. I was thinking that maybe tomorrow I can come pick you up. And we can see some things. And I can introduce you to some of my favorite foods" I smile at his sweet suggestion. I lean my side against the door.
"I'd like that." I say. He starts walking backwards and I slowly start to close the door. "I'll pick you up around 2?" I nod "okay... Jungkook watch...!" He almost runs into a person who was coming out of their apartment. He apologizes to them in Korean then turns towards me with a red face. I can't help but chuckle. "2." he says fixing his shirt trying to act like nothing happened. "Okay " I smile holding back my laughter.
He smiles and waves as he stops in his path and I smile and wave as well. I watch him as he walks off and before he turns the corner onto the side walk he turns towards me and shoots me a sweet glance and he smiles then continues to walk.
I finally close the door and I fall against it. "What has this day turned out to be? I would have never known." I look up at the ceiling "God you are mysterious." I say standing up right and begin to walk over to the kitchen and I realize that he had left his groceries. "I'll give it to him tomorrow." I say and head over to my couch. I sit down and smile to myself.

Hey! Revised!
This chapter is still really crappy and I tried to make it a little more clear because I had read comments and things weren't very clear.
I'm trying my best to make this book better.
