Backstory: Chase grew up near Water's Edge with his mom, dad, and brother. Their parents always fought with each other until one night, the father disappeared. After he disappeared, the mother abused both Chase and Leroy. She kept them living in the basement, barely any food or sunlight. Only Leroy was allowed to go to school for the mother didnt want Chase to be a failed student due to being born mute. Leroy would always come back and quietly teach Chase about the things he had learned and Chase would write everything in a journal his brother had given him. One morning, Chase woke up and couldnt find any trace of his brother besides blood going up ghe stairs. He overheard his mothers conversation with her ex boyfriend, saying that Leroy tried going out to look for their father. "He's taken care of" was all Chase could remember before the ex opened the door. They sent him to the Military service, a known way of getting rid of those you dont want. There, he befriended Lucas who later gave him a piece of technology that let Chase talk. A year after joining, police came and took Chase. He was sent to court where he learned the truth of his brother and was able fo send his mother to prison. He was sent to Ninjago City where he was put in and adopted out of an orphanage. He now has a loving family to support him, and a sensei to teach him.

Backstory: Zain grew up in Jamakai Village living a semi normal life. His parents were farmers and they taught him how to use his powers. His mother had died in a few years after he was born and his father remarried. When he was 17, his cousin and their friend introduced him to Chase. They became best friends, pulling each other out of depression. A year later, Zain developed lung cancer and was placed into Ninjago Hospital. After a few months, Sensei Yin spoke to him and Chase, inviting them to join his elemental team. Zain had a full recovery from the cancer.
