Justin's POV:

I slid my foot across the pavement to increase the speed of my skateboard. It had been kind of difficult to wave my way through the crowded streets of Manhattan since I got out of the subway and I was afraid I was gonna be late to pick Selena up from school. I don't know how many people I hit in the process, but I finally arrived to my destination. Picking up the skateboard in my hand, I looked around searching for a head of blonde hair that could belong to my girlfriend. But it was being impossible mission since the entrance of the school was packed with dozens of golden-haired school-girls. I waited a minute or so until the bell rang and people began to disappear inside the building and that's when I saw a girl in a corner, wearing sunglasses and a hood. Chuckling in my way over there, I finally reached Selena. She was leaning against a wall and nervously looking from left to right, trying to go unnoticed. "Hey, secret agent." I whispered when I was close enough. Selena brought a hand to her chest in fright, making me laugh. "Oh my god, Justin. You nearly gave me a heart attack." She panted. "You're easily scareable.." I shrugged. "That's not even a word." She lowered the rim of her sunglasses, giving me a glimpse of her beautiful brown eyes while a scowl settled on her lips. "You understood me, right?" I gave her a knowing look and then lent down for a morning kiss. She barely let my lips brush with hers before she pulled away, taking my hand to drag me away. "Let's get out of here before somebody sees us." She urged in a panicking voice, still looking around to make sure no one saw she was skipping school. I let her drag me around a corner and into another street, laughing at her paranoia. "Are you gonna explain why you look like a FBI agent or?" "Duh, isn't it obvious?" "We are out of your school range so you can take your costume off now." My hand slid the hood of his light brown coat down, revealing her blonde hair tied in a messed up ponytail. "That was so nerve-wrecking." She shrieked. "For a second there I thought about ditching you instead of school." She frantically rubbed her face before untying the messy ponytail and smoothing her hair. "I'm offended." I faked a hurt expression, making her crack a giggle. "You're making a big deal out of nothing. Seriously, if you weren't wearing sunglasses in a cloudy day, nobody would notice you." I pointed. "Of course they would." She scoffed, waving a hand at me. "Because of my striking beauty." Her white teeth showed when a huge cocky grin spread across her face. "Then I'm the conceited one." I shook my head, throwing an arm over her shoulder to pull her close. "I was kidding...or was I?" Selena finally put her sunglasses up from her eyes to her hair, looking at me with an inquisitive look before it turned into a frown. "What's wrong?" My eyebrows knitted together in confusion. "Have you seen your bruises? They're ten times worse than Saturday!" She stopped in the middle of the street, cupping my face softly in her hands. Her expression was somewhat scolding while she examined my features like it was my fault I got punched. "How could you forget to put on some ice when we got to your house?" Her eyes met mine as her voice sounded like my mother's. "Well, someone had other plans in mind for that night." I smirked and watched as her eyes immediately darted away from mine and her face went red with embarrassment. Her cold hands dropped from my face as she started walking away like she does every time I upset her. "Selena, wait!" I shouted, running behind to catch up with her. I stopped in front of her, blocking her way. I know she wasn't mad or annoyed, it was just that this type of comments made her uncomfortable. "I didn't say I didn't enjoy it." Okay, maybe that wasn't the best thing to say but it just slipped off. Ups. Her face turned a deeper shade of crimson and she decided to walk away from me again. "I'm sorry." I screamed from behind, although bits of laughter filtered between the words. People around us didn't seem too fazed by our little scene but then again, people are like that in New York. When I finally reached her again I hugged her from behind, making sure she couldn't get free. Pecking the skin under her ear, I murmured. "I'm sorry but you don't have to be embarrassed about what we did, okay? I loved it." Her body relaxed in my arms and I could already sense a small smile creeping up. "And I know you did too." Turning around in my arms so that she was facing me, Selena stood on her tiptoes so that she could press her lips to mine. It was a sweet kiss, short – because we were in the middle of Madison Street – but amazing. "Just don't tease me about it or you ain't getting no more." She smirked, putting on a ghetto-girl voice that made me laugh whole-heartedly. We started walking hand by hand again, me holding the skateboard on the other one while she briefly told me about her boring weekend based around studying. We were heading to Central Park because Selena said it looked beautiful in autumn with "all the colourful leaves flying around". Believe it or not, I haven't been there since I was around seven. "Did you really come skating?" Selena suddenly asked, noticing the board in my hand for the first time. "No, I came skating on the subway which is cooler." I winked down at her, earning a soft snort. "Forgot to put petrol in your car again?" She cocked an eyebrow knowingly. "I actually never did." I chuckled. "I'll go to the gas station later." Selena gave me this look as if trying to say 'yeah, I bet you will'. "I've never ridden one but it seems fun." She blurted out after a few seconds of silence during which she played with my fingers seemingly interested. "Are you serious?" I exclaimed totally shocked knowing she was referring to my particular mean of transport. "Yeah." She giggled at my reaction. "You had no childhood." I shook my head in disbelief. "What American kid has never ridden a skateboard or played basketball with their dad or had to smack their locker at school to open it?" "Apparently, me." Selena chuckled as we reached the entrance of the park and walked inside, immediately mixing with couples walking, people running and old ladies taking their dogs for a walk. "It's never too late to learn." I claimed dropping my red and black skateboard to the ground and stepping on it. I started doing tricks to impress my girl while she looked at me with amusement dancing in her eyes. But I knew she was awestruck, too. "Trying to impress me, Bieber?" Her eyebrows raised as her mouth twitched up in a smirk. "Is it working, Reed?" I skated closer to her, towering over her petite figure since I was even taller standing on the board. "Hmmm, I don't know." She tapped a finger to her chin thoughtfully. "Honestly, you keep surprising me with your abilities." She admitted, wrapping her arms around my waist and gazing up at me. "Glad to know I don't bore you, Princess." I smiled, leaning down to kiss her puckering lips. She pulled away before the kiss would go further – she doesn't like making out in front of people – and spoke again. "Teach me?" "Of course, ma'am." Selena let out a girlish giggle at my stupid attempt to sound posh and polite. Adjusting the black beanie in my head, I helped her get up on the skateboard while she clutched my hands for dear life. "Sel you're not even 2 inches high, it's not like you're gonna die if you fall." I snickered a little at her fear. "Shut up. I don't wanna make a fool of myself in front of the whole park." She rolled her eyes, struggling to keep still. "I won't let you fall." I assured her before distancing myself from her a few inches, still holding her hands. "Now, if you want to move, you'll have to use your feet." "Oh, right." She blushed a little at the obvious statement and used one foot to propel herself forward. Letting go of one of my hands, I walked by her side so she wouldn't lose her equilibrium. "See, it's easy. Now try to turn to the left." I commanded. Her response was to sway her hips in a circular motion, believing that would make the board change its direction. I couldn't help but laugh. "Don't make fun of me, you jerk. It's my first lesson." Her brows pulled together in annoyance and she pouted her lips at me. Her expression only made me laugh again. "Justin!" She whined letting go of my other hand to smack my chest and arms and basically everywhere she could. "Ow, ow. Okay, stop!" I shrieked grabbing her wrists to keep her from hitting me anymore. When I finally got her under control, she scowled at me, sticking her tongue out shortly after. "Don't tease me with that tongue of yours, Sel." I grinned smugly, knowing fully well the reaction I would get out of her. Her hands wiggled under my grip ready to smack me again but instead I pulled them to me, making Selena lose her balance and fall in my arms. Pressing my lips to hers, I felt her body trying to stop the urge to kiss me back. "Don't fight me, baby." I murmured against her lips, feeling her breath colliding with mine. With that said, her body relaxed and she allowed me to kiss her, even kissing me back. My hands dropped hers around my neck, where she locked her fingers together. Meanwhile, mine trailed down her sides until they were in the small of her back, steadying her body. My tongue slid across her bottom lip, causing her lips to part cautiously and I wasted no time in slipping my tongue inside to explore her mouth. She moaned into the kiss when I sucked her bottom lip and instantly pulled away. "Oh my God, I bet everybody saw that." She hid her face in my neck and I could feel how hot it was from the embarrassment. "It's alright, baby. Let them know that you're mine." I whispered in her ear and she made one of those hyperventilating sounds girls make when their crush talks to them, making me smirk in satisfaction. When she finally lifted her head from my neck, she looked flustered. "I think that was enough for the first lesson." She huffed, getting off the skateboard and beginning to walk again. I trailed after her, smiling at how cute she was when she became embarrassed. Her UGG boots kicked some pebbles on the ground as guys checked out how sexy her legs looked tucked in those sexy tight jeans. Obviously, I sent them daggers daring them to keep looking at my girlfriend. None of us said anything else until we reached a small area for children – that was deserted since they were currently at school – and Sel decided to stop. Toddling off to the swings like a little kid, she sat at one of them, her hair bouncing in the air while she did so. "Push me, lackey." She ordered in the most serious voice she could muster. A loud snort left my mouth at her choice of words but, leaving my skateboard leaning against a tree, I strolled over to the swing. "As you please, milady." I mimicked her accent as I pushed the swing, sending her only a little high. "Higher!" She squealed, her knuckles turning white with how much strength she was gripping the chains with. I pushed her again, this time sending the swing almost four feet up the ground. Selena squealed like a five-year-old, reminding me of Jaxon. I found myself grinning like an idiot at her happiness. Once she got tired of the swing, she made it stop but sat there smiling. "Had fun?" "Are you serious? I hadn't had so much fun in years." She exclaimed, clapping her hands. "Jeez, thank you." I looked away a bit disappointed. You expect people to have fun at parties or spending time with you, not playing in a park for children. "C'mere." She motioned with her hand for me to go and stand between her legs. Our heads were almost at the same height since she was sitting. "I had never had so much fun and excitement in my life before I met you." She said gently running her fingers through my hair and taking my beanie off in the process. "You basically turned my life upside down." A small smile etched across her lips, giving me a glimpse of her white teeth. "In a good way." She quickly added, combing my hair to the side so that it looked like it did when I was younger. It was in moments like that when I really wondered if it was possible I was falling in love with her. Me, a boy who had always thought love was a stupid fantasy for those dumb enough to believe in it, was pondering whether I felt actual love for this girl. "What are you thinking?" She slightly frowned letting my fingers intertwine with hers, warming the coldness of her skin. "Nothing." I mumbled. I had to think long and hard about this before spilling anything. Her eyes looked like she didn't believe me and, suddenly, I wondered if she felt the same way. Maybe she loved me but was afraid I wouldn't love her back. I mean, I would feel like that after hearing me say love doesn't exist and that I was sure I will never ever fall in love. But I had done nothing for her to love me anyway. I wasn't even a good boyfriend, although I secretly hoped she would someday fall in love with me just for the sake of feeling loved – something I didn't get to experience too often. Selena put the beanie in my head again, her eyes still wary. Brushing the hairs that skipped the woollen cloth to the side, she managed to give me a lopsided smile. "You're perfect." She whispered burying her head in my chest as my arms slid around her frame to hold her close. "I'm far from perfect, Sel." I chuckled. "Well, you're perfect to me." She looked up to meet my eyes, her cheeks tinted with a pinkish blush. A toothy grin made its way across my face as I leaned down to capture her lips in mine for a chaste kiss. It would have been the perfect moment to say 'I love you', but none of us felt secure enough to take the step, I guess. "Let's go, I want to show you my favourite tree." Selena broke me out of my thoughts, hopping off the swing and taking my hand to follow her. I grabbed my skateboard as we walked across a stone path to the other side of a large-sized square with a fountain in the middle which Selena called 'Bethesda Fountain'. "You have a favourite tree?" I suddenly asked when I realised how weird that was. "Hmm." She nodded, coming to a halt next to a tall tree with a thick trunk. It was deep inside a small forest, surrounded by trees that looked exactly the same and orange leaves covering the ground. "Here." She announced beaming. "Can I ask why it is your favourite tree?"

Selena's POV:

I proceeded to explain. "We used to come here when I was little with my dad and he always told me the same story about the fairies that lived in it and how they were magic." I smiled at the memory whilst Justin looked at me like I had just escaped a mental hospital. "He said that if you made a wish and truly believed in the fairies' magical powers, it would come true." I sighed playing with the ends of my hair, avoiding his quizzical gaze. "What was your wish?" He questioned taking me by surprise. I debated a little internally whether I should tell him or not – I didn't want him to laugh at my childishness anymore than he already had – but I decided it was stupid keeping it to me when it had already come true. "I wished to be a princess." My eyes darted to Justin again to see him smiling at me, all traces of my-girlfriend-is-crazy thoughts gone from his honey orbs. "I'm starting to believe in fairies," He admitted, walking closer to where I was. "Princess." He whispered sweetly, catching the hint of what I meant. I dedicated him a sheepish grin, shrugging my shoulders like a little girl. "But how do you remember which tree is the magic one?" His face grew confused as he looked around, seeing rows and rows of trees that looked almost the same. "This one has a branch you can climb up to." I stated simply, my finger pointing to a sturdy branch that lifted about 5 feet above the ground. Justin followed my gaze as a plotting-a-plan expression took over his features. "Oh no, I haven't climbed up there in like 8 years." I started to back away, knowing his intentions. "So? C'mon, are you afraid?" He arched an eyebrow knowing how I can't stand being challenged. "Of course not." I scoffed. "Just help me." I stuck my hand out and he took it, smirking in accomplishment. I hated that he could get to me like that. Putting a foot on a small hole in the trunk, I propped myself up. Justin's hand left mine to hold my waist as my other foot climbed up, too. "Don't even think about it." I warned sternly as I felt his hands moving down towards my butt. Justin groaned, making me giggle. "I'm just trying to help you but if you don't want me to, I'll just remove my hands." He made an attempt to do exactly that and I let out a deafening shriek, thinking I would fall. Justin's laughter was uncontrollable as he held me again. I thought about kicking him but that would mean losing my balance. Once I was successfully sitting on the wide branch – after some struggling – I sent Justin a death glare. "I hate you." I folded my arms across my chest before swinging one of my legs to the other side of the branch so I was straddling it. "In that case, I should leave." He turned on his heels and began to walk away. "Don't you dare leave me hanging here, Justin Drew Bieber." Although I tried to keep my voice serious, it ended up cracking because the situation was just too ridiculous. Justin spun back around with a huge smile plastered on his perfect face – I wasn't lying when I told him he was perfect – and laughing with that carefree attitude that defined him. I patted the space next to me on the branch, signaling for him to come up with me. The space was big enough to fit at least three people (yes, I've tried that). Shaking his head, Justin crawled up the trunk and in two seconds he was by my side. He was clearly much better at climbing than me. "Where did you learn to climb like that?" I asked, my mouth open in playful astonishment. He shrugged. "Just another one of my surprising abilities." He mimicked what I had told him before, cockiness spread all over her features. I playfully hit his shoulder. Scooting closer to him, I rested my head on it, his arm instantly coming around my waist while his back leaned against the bark. His grey varsity jacket wasn't buttoned up in the front, making me sigh at Justin's inexplicable immunity to the cold. Closing the lower part with the popping sounds of the metallic rivets, I played with the dog tags he always wore around his neck. Justin planted a small kiss to the top of my head and I never wanted this moment to end. All of these moments with Justin made me forget about my problems. School, backstabbing friends, cheating ex-boyfriends, nagging parents and responsibilities shifted to the background when we were together. "Why do you like my dog tags so much?" He suddenly spoke, causing my head to lift and glance at him. Shrugging a shoulder, I replied. "I don't know, they're just cool." He pushed my body slightly away from his, making me frown. Did it really bothered him that much when I touched them or? However, what he did next had me inwardly awing. I gasped as he removed the tag that wasn't from his dad – the one with his personal information – and put it over my head. "Justin, no." I tried to stop him. Clearly, his chains had a deep meaning for him and I didn't want him to feel forced to give one to me. "Shhh." He put a finger to my lips, silencing me. Then, he flicked my hair back so the dog tag was clinging directly from my neck. "I want you to have it." I kissed the metallic surface before plating another kiss on his cheek. "Thank you." He just nodded his head, smiling. Beep. My phone vibrated in my pocket indicating I had a text. Justin waved his hand motioning for me to check it. Sliding my finger across the screen, I opened the message from Kelsey. You don't know how lucky you are for missing school today. Natasha is bothering me all the time, I'll tell you later. Hope you lovebirds are having fun ;) ILY <3 I chuckled and opted for ignoring the Natasha part, not up for ruining my perfect morning because of that whore. Ups, that slipped out. I quickly typed a response back. Haha. I'm having a great time, thank you :) And don't let her get to you. ILY2 <3 When I gave my attention back to Justin, I saw him with his back to me. "What are you doing?" "Um, nothing." His voice sounded awkward, like he was doing something embarrassing as he kept a thing that looked like a pocket knife in his hand. What the hell? "Let me see." I tugged at his arm to draw it back and get a glimpse of what he was hiding. He eventually let me see, sighing. My mouth fell wide open at the heart he had carved on the bark of the tree, J&B written inside of it. "Justin." I squealed unable to contain my fan-girling emotions. I attacked him in a bear hug, almost making us fall from the branch. "That is so cute." He rolled his eyes, hugging me back and putting his mouth to my ear. "If you tell anyone, I'll kill you." He joked. "You're so adorable, Justin." I pulled away from the hug to peck his lips. "Stop calling me cute and adorable." He huffed, trying to suppress a smile at my contentment. "But you are." I winded him up further, enjoying this side of him. "Whatever." His caramel eyes looked away in pretended annoyance. I hugged him once more before something downed on me. "Wait a second...this scene is awfully familiar to the one in The Last Song when Will carves Ronnie's and his name on the tree." I smirked. Busted, Justin. "I don't know what you're talking about." He muttered, slouching down on the branch. "I thought you had fallen asleep during the movie." It sounded more like a question than a statement because now I wasn't so sure he hadn't actually watched the movie the first day he slept at my house. "And I didn't." His fingers tugged down his beanie so it covered his eyes as I giggled and awed. "Ow, stop it already, you're making me go all corny and shit." "I don't mind." I admitted reaching to trace the shape of the carved letters with my fingertips. "This is amazing and you're amazing." He didn't reject me when I gave him a sweet kiss on the lips; what's more, he tried to deepen it. I let him since he had just been so cute. A rumbling sound coming from his stomach interrupted the kiss and we pulled away laughing. "Someone didn't have breakfast." I sang. "Don't blame me. My stomach is closed at 7 am and I just happened to have to wake up at that time for a little someone." He retorted jokingly, getting ready to climb down. I brought a hand to my chest in gratefulness. "And I appreciate it." He chuckled. "Let me buy you food, kid." Rolling his eyes, Justin jumped to the floor. He landed smoothly and extended his arms to help me. "Oh my God." I mumbled to myself, trying not to look down. I jumped quickly, closing my eyes shut until I felt a pair of arms holding me. "Anyone would say you just jumped from the Empire State." Justin snickered. "Whatever." I mocked him. Twenty minutes after, we were sitting by The Lake with a bagel and a coke, laughing at Justin's impersonation of Nate. "My name is Nathaniel and I'm a fucking asshole with stupid blue eyes." "Hey, I liked his eyes." I whined trying to annoy Justin. "What? Mine are much more beautiful." He scoffed, battling his eyelashes. "Of course they are." I said, dusting a piece of bread from the corner of his mouth. "Wait, you're not being sarcastic, are you?" He furrowed his eyebrows. "Of course not." I teased him. Justin let out an angry breath and, standing up, adjusted his jeans on his hips. "What are you doing?" I inquired confused. We had already finished our lunch but I didn't think he would just walk away because I was messing around with him. Without replying, he simply scooped me up in his arms, throwing me over his shoulder. I squealed loudly at the sudden movement while he laughed darkly. "Justin, what are you doing? Put me down!" My fists pounded against his back, my eyes almost at the same height as the waistband of his purple and grey boxers. Not that I'm complaining. "No can do, baby." He responded in a sing-sang voice. "You should've never said that that prick's eyes are better than mine and now you're gonna pay for it." He announced, the tone of his voice evil as he neared the shore of the lake. "Justin, no!" I screamed. He's not about to throw me into a pool of muddy, dirty and freezing water, right? "I was just messing with you, your eyes are the most beautiful ones in the whole wide world and I could spend my whole life staring at them, please don't throw me into the water!" At that Justin broke into fits of laughter, taking a step back from the lake and making me sigh in relief. A few couples that were scattered around us stared in bewilderment. Maybe we were being a bit obnoxious... "Stop laughing and put me down, ugh." I exclaimed when I felt all the blood draining from my body and travelling to my head. He finally decided to let me go and put me on the ground on top of piles of leaves and remaining bits of grass. "I'm glad you admitted it to yourself. You needed it." He propped himself on his elbows on top of me, his eyes boring into mine. I wasn't exactly lying when I said his eyes were the most beautiful thing ever. Now that they were shielded from the sun they looked darker but when the light directly hit them, they turned a strange shade of green circled by toffee. "What are you doing?" He raised a brow, weirded out by how I was staring at him with no shame. "Marveling at the colour of your, oh, so beautiful eyes." I giggled pushing him off me to sit up. Justin rolled his so called orbs and sat next to me. A glance at my watch told me I should get going because the classes were about to finish and I had to head home. "You have to go already?" He asked as if reading my mind. "Yeah." We walked out of the park, his hand tucked in the back pocket of my jeans and mine around his waist, passing the Zoo on the way. "We should come with Jaxon and Tommy someday." I suggested, looking up at him. "Nah, Bronx Zoo is better." He replied cockily. "I bet animals are scarier." Justin chuckled at my comment and then walked me to my school. "Oh, I forgot to tell you something." I suddenly remembered before getting inside my car. "Well, tell me now." "Remember about the modelling thing?" I waited until he nodded. "It's next Saturday, I'll text you the hour and address and everything." The sudden change of his expression gave away the enthusiasm he had for Saturday.

Tugging at his lips until they formed a smile I encouraged him. "It will be fun, you'll see. And you'll get paid and there's always food." "Sure." He replied unconvinced. "And I'll be there." I tilted my head to the side, battling my lashes cutely. "That'll be the only good thing." He gave in a smile. Turning the key in the slot, I opened the door to my house. I frowned when I noticed it wasn't locked. It should be since I'm the only one who is home Monday's after school. My doubts dispersed when I saw two figures sitting on the sofa as soon as I passed the living room. Oh, crap. "What are you two doing here, shouldn't you be at work?" I double checked the hour in case I was having hallucinations or something. "Not when we get notice that our daughter missed school today." My father said sternly. A lump formed in my throat as I tried my best not to put on a deer-caught-in-the-headlights face. "What-what do you mean?" I faked misunderstanding tentatively. "Don't play dumb, Isabella." My mother using that name can only mean one thing: I'm screwed. "Why did you skip classes today?" "Who told you?" I stopped pretending I was oblivious to what they were talking about and cut straight to the point. "That doesn't matter. You should never miss school without us knowing it." She replied, disbelief written on her face. Well, that was the whole point of missing it: you not knowing, duh. "Damn right, it matters!" I exclaimed in frustration. I had made sure no one saw me this morning and Kelsey didn't mention anything in her text. My father scoffed. He was pissed. "If it's so important to you, Ryan called us." "What the hell? How would he know? He's not even here." My arms flew around me in a mix of anger, remorse and confusion. "That's not the point. Where were you?" My mother spoke again, demanding answers I wasn't gonna give her. When I remained silent, she took a deep breath. "Do you think I'm stupid? That I don't know this is all because of a boy?" Her words took me by surprise as I wondered how the hell she knew. "There's no boy, mother." I lied through gritted teeth. "Don't lie to me, missy. I know the symptoms when I see them. Coming home late, your grades going down, swapping moods, the increase in your phone bill and suddenly being happy after another boy cheated on you." She listed the things using her fingers as I rolled my eyes. "So what if there's a guy?" I confronted them. My father snorted. "Selena did you not just hear your mother? That 'guy' is clearly a bad influence." He made quotes with the word 'guy', making me roll my eyes. "You know nothing about him." I switched my eyes between both of them but their expressions didn't change. "Selena he'd better not be a dropout without a job that lives out of committing crimes." A finger was pointed to me warningly. "Mom! What do you think of me?" I gasped, even though she wasn't so wrong there. "It doesn't matter who he is. You're not seeing him ever again." My dad intervened, his voice serious and sharp like a knife. "What?! You can't keep me from seeing someone!" I yelled, tears pricking at my eyes. "Mom?" I turned my gaze to her but her lips were pursed in a tight line. "You can't!" I yelled again. "Watch me." My father replied, standing up and coming towards me. "No." I shook my head, tears already falling down my cheeks as I walked backwards to the front door, juggling with knob in my shaky hand. "Don't you dare leave, Selena." My father almost growled at me as my mother followed behind, wrapping a hand around his bicep. "Watch me." I spat showing him my palms and loudly slamming the door shut after me.
