Chapter 2
Apparently Elves Name Their Kids Spindler
Just as Raven said that, someone appeared. I wasn't sure how he did it, but he practically teleported into the room.
"Nice magic trick," I said sarcastically.
"Magic trick? I don't disagree with the magic part, but invisibility is no trick. It's simply a usage of my Elvish powers to disappear and reappear again," the stranger said. He was tall, at least six feet, and had longish brown hair and stunning blue eyes. He was wearing a sweatshirt, jeans, and sneakers. This magician was actually somewhat attractive.
"I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about," I said.
"You should know exactly what I'm talking about, Avery Richards."
"How do you know my name?" I asked. The hot guys at school couldn't remember anything about me, yet this guy walks in and knows my name?
"The databases said there was a witch at Miss Pratt's Book Emporium by the name of Avery Richards," the stranger said, as if that explained anything.
"What?" I exclaimed. "I'm not a witch!"
"The databases are always right," the stranger said.
"Speaking of which, what's your name?" I asked.
"My name is Spindler Dringol Glasdir Taenor Aeglasson Eaglefire, but you can call me Spindler."
So this was the "Spindler" Raven was talking about. I knew Raven's friends were weird, but I didn't expect them to be this weird.
"OK then, Spindler," I said. "What's this about me being a witch?"
"You're a witch," Spindler said simply. I gave him a puzzled look. "Do you need me to define 'witch' for you?"
"No," I said. "I just know I'm not one."
"Your powers must not be developed yet," Spindler said, shaking his head.
"I don't have powers!" I exclaimed.
"You obviously do," Raven mumbled as she skimmed through several of the books in the store.
"Avery, there is a simple test I can perform to see if you have magical powers," Spindler said. He reached out and touched my shoulder. I felt a surge of power rush through me.
"Guilty as charged," Raven said. "I totally knew it."
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
"Your eyes changed from brown to violet. That only happens in individuals with magic in them, such as yourself," Spindler explained. He paused for a moment. "So you are the witch in the prophecy."
"Prophecy?" I asked. "You never mentioned a prophecy."
"You are correct. I have not yet mentioned the prophecy. You see, there is a prophecy back in my homeland, Blackwald, that mentions a lost elf and a witch that is needed to help him return. The prophecy says that the witch will help him defeat the monster that is guarding the crystal that will help him return to Blackwald. I believe I am the lost elf. Therefore, you must be the witch."
"Wait, you're an elf?"
"Yes." Spindler pulled back some of his hair to show me one of his pointed ears. "So are you willing to help us?"
"Sure," I said. What did I have to lose?
"Oh good," Raven said. "The witch finally figured it out." She scribbled something in her black notebook and stood up. "We should probably go back to my house and plan stuff."
"Raven, you need to use words that are more specific than stuff. However, you are correct. We need to figure out how to find the crystal," Spindler said.
We walked out of the bookstore. I waved to Miss Pratt before heading out of the alley. Hopefully, everything would go well with Raven and Spindler. They both scared me a little, but at least I had made a few new friends.
