Barista AU
Today was Aziraphale's first day at his new job as a barista. He was nervous at first, but his new bosses, Nina and Maggie, were really nice, so it helped.
"...Crawley?...Is there a Crawley here?" Aziraphale said reading the name written on the coffee cup Nina handed him.
"That's me." a tall handsome man replied.
Aziraphale blushed at the sight of him, he always had a bit of a thing for tall men in dark clothes.
"But, just so you know, my name is Crowley, not Crawley." the handsome man named Crowley said, taking his coffee from Aziraphale.
"Oh dear, sorry about that, that's what was written on the cup." Aziraphale nervously apologized.
"Don't worry about it, Nina does that to f**k with me sometimes." Crowley chuckled.
"So, you're a regular?" Aziraphale asked.
"I'm in here just about everyday." Crowley replied.
"So, I guess that means I'll see you again tomorrow, right Angel?" he said with a wink before walking out the cafe's door.
Aziraphale watched, cheeks flushed, as Crowley sauntered out of the café with a slight sway of his hips.
"I saw that." Maggie giggled.
"What? Saw what?" Aziraphale said, startled by Maggie's sudden appearance.
"You staring at Mr. Crowley's hiney." Maggie teased.
"I-I-I-I-I...I did no such thing!" Aziraphale stammered defensively, blushing furiously.
"Okay, if you say so." Maggie taunted affectionately.
"I WAS NOT STARING AT HIS DERRIÉRE!" Aziraphale shouted, immediately covering his mouth with both hands when he realized how loud he was.
He looks out into the dining area of the café where all of the customers were looking at him. Embarrassed, Aziraphale scurries into the back room, making up the excuse of getting more coffee grounds.
"What was that about?" Nina asked, coming back from cleaning off one of the tables.
"Mr. Fell kinda hit it off with Mr. Crowley and I was teasing him about it a little, but I'm afraid I went a tad too far." Maggie sighed with a pout.
"Oh goodness, I feel guilty." she frowned.
"It'll be alright, hun. Just give him a minute to collect himself. I'm sure he knows you didn't mean to embarrass him." Nina assured her girlfriend.
After a few minutes, Aziraphale comes out of the back room and continues his work. When his shift was over, Maggie catches him before he could leave so she could apologize.
"Mr. Fell, I'm truly sorry about earlier." Maggie tells him.
"Don't fret, dear girl, it's okay. I should have simply asked you to stop." Aziraphale said, smiling to let Maggie know that he was not upset at her.
"Oh good." Maggie beamed, excitedly clapping her hands together.
"But, jokes and whatnot aside, I do think that you and Mr. Crowley would make an adorable couple." she added.
A blush crept up on Aziraphale's cheeks again.
"I don't know about that, I doubt he's even attracted to me." Aziraphale replied, nervously fiddling with the ring on his pinky finger.
"And that is where you're wrong, my good fellow." Nina said smugly, wrapping an arm around Maggie's shoulders.
"Care to elaborate on how I'm wrong?" Aziraphale asked.
"First off, you're plenty attractive enough to catch Crowley's eye. Second, I know him quite well and can tell when he's flirting, and dearie, he was definitely flirting with you. And lastly, with the way he was walking out of the café, he wanted you to look at his a**." Nina explained.
"Oh my...well that's....that's interesting, interesting indeed." Aziraphale said, flustered.
"Just say the word, and we'll set something up." Nina offered.
"Thanks, but I don't want to rush into anything right now. I think I'll just get to know him first." Aziraphale tells his coworkers before bidding them goodbye and heading home.
Over the next few weeks, Aziraphale slowly got to know Crowley through their brief interactions at the café. The banter they shared was very flirty and it made Aziraphale have butterflies in his stomach every time.
"Crowley! Your coffee is ready!" Aziraphale called out into the café.
"Thanks, Angel." Crowley hummed, smiling that wily smile of his.
He twists the cup around in his hand, looking at the side opposite to where his name is written.
"Aww, Angel, I think you forgot something." Crowley drawled, leaning forward onto the counter.
"I'm sorry, dear, what did I forget?" Aziraphale asked him.
"To give me your number." Crowley simply replied.
"Oh, you cheeky little..." Aziraphale laughs.
The blonde man looks to his coworker who was restocking the pastry display and she gives him an encouraging nod. Turning back to his favorite customer, he puffs his chest slightly with confidence.
"You're lucky I have a pen on me, my dear." Aziraphale said, deepening his voice into a low rumble.
Crowley chokes on a high pitched whimper, his entire face going red and his sunglasses falling to the tip of his nose. Aziraphale enjoys the affect he just had on the taller man, smirking as he writes his phone number on Crowley's coffee cup.
"H-have a good day, Angel." Crowley mumbled bashfully.
He hides his blush behind taking a sip from his coffee as he leaves the café.
"Woo! Mr. Fell, I didn't know you had that in you!" Nina hooted.
"I don't know what you mean." Aziraphale responded coyly.
Since giving Crowley his phone number, Aziraphale got to talk to him much more often. Soon, Aziraphale learned a lot of things about his new friend. He learned that Crowley's favorite band was Queen, his car that he loved dearly was a vintage remodeled 1921 Bentley, and that he had a large black pet snake named Eve. The more they talked, the more the two of them clearly fell for each other.
"Hmm, Crowley seems to be running a bit late, he's usually here by now." Aziraphale comments on a cold, chilly Friday.
"Well, with how cold it is today, I wouldn't be surprised if Crowley doesn't come in at all." Nina replied.
"How come?" Aziraphale asked confused.
"Mr. Crowley doesn't handle cold weather very well, it aggravates his back and hips. Sometimes so bad that he can't even get out of bed." Maggie answered.
"It also makes him really sluggish and tired. The man just cannot function when the temperature is well below 20 (68) degrees." Nina adds.
Just as she says that, bell on the cafe's door chimes and Crowley walks in. But he's not his usual self, his shoulders are haunched and he walks with a limp towards a table tucked in the furthest corner of the café. Aziraphale, Maggie, and Nina worriedly watched him slump heavily into a chair and lay his head down on the table on top of his arms.
"Why in the world did he come today when he's obviously so miserable?" Maggie sighed, shaking her head.
"H*ll if I know." Nina shrugged.
"Mr. Fell, why don't you bring him his coffee. Also...go ahead and take your lunch break." she suggested, giving Aziraphale a sly grin.
Very much liking the sound of that idea, Aziraphale grabs Crowley's usual cup of coffee and one of the mini angel's food cakes he made earlier, then he walks over to the table his friend is sitting at and sits across from him.
"I didn't order any cake." Crowley slurred tiredly.
"I know...I just thought you could use a bit of a pick-me-up today, my dear." Aziraphale said, sliding Crowley's coffee to him.
Crowley wraps his hands around the warm cup, sighing in relief. Aziraphale had never seen the other man like this before, he could see in his eyes how much pain he was in.
"Crow-- oh, good lord, your hands are like ice!" Aziraphale gasped when took one of Crowley's hands in both of his.
"Dear boy, why are you even here while you're in such a poorly state?" he asked concerned.
"I wanted to see you." Crowley mumbled, dragging his other hand over his face.
"Crowley, darling, that's sweet of you, but you could've just called and I would've come." Aziraphale told him.
"Really? You would?" Crowley replied.
Aziraphale nods, gently rubbing the back of Crowley's pale hand with his thumb.
"Now, why don't we dig into this lovely cake...I made it myself." Aziraphale said, slipping his hands away from Crowley's.
"Wait!" Crowley blurted out quickly.
"What is it, Crowley?" Aziraphale asked.
"Could you, um, keep holding my hand? Your hands are really warm....it feels nice." Crowley replied, shyly.
Smiling softly, Aziraphale clasps Crowley's hand and rubs some warmth into it. Then he scoots his chair closer to Crowley so he could lean into his cozy, warm body.
"Does that feel better, my dear?" Aziraphale giggled fondly as Crowley practically glued himself to his side.
"Mhm." Crowley nodded, laying his head on Aziraphale's shoulder.
From across the café, Maggie and Nina watched the love finally blossom between their friends. They high-fived each other, glad that their plan to bring the two together finally worked.
