Chapter 23 - Disappearing Act

Back to 2025.

Aeo looked blankly across the table at Aunt Lina, her eyes were watering, but that must have been because she hadn't blinked in  the 15 to 20 minutes she used to explain everything. Plus, Alan' mind control made her to talk on and on.

It slowly faded away as he could not hold on anymore because of the millions of emotions flying through his head.

Aeo's salty tears had stained his plate and wet his pizza. He kept sobbing, knowing that his parents were actually alive and they were the most important icons in the world.

His mixed feelings consisted of happiness, sadness because he never got to see them, know them and anger for being kept in the dark for all these years. He didn't even know of anything was true anymore.

Was she even telling the truth? What if they're aren't my real brothers?

Alak held his head, holding his emotions back. The only evident feeling was that of anger. "This is all messed up."

Artemis more than anyone had to control his emotions because of his electricity. But how could he take such news easily. His face was flushed and his hair fell down making look fairly dead.

He rose his swollen pale eyes and looked forward at Aunt Lina. "I can't believe this."

"Mum and Dad are actually really alive," Aeo said lightly amidst his hard sobs.

Alak's heavy breathing made a delirious Aunt Lina look in confusion. "Why didn't you say something Aunt Lina?" Aeo silently shouted in his sadness.

"I am so sorry guys . . . It was not my decision to take. It was your parents and, and I . . . I couldn't do anything about it, it was for your own good."

"Were you planning on keeping this all our lives?" Alak asked.

"No, I tried to tell them . . . I really did," Aunt Lina said. She tried to be calm about the issue because she knew that sooner or later, the truth would have to come out.

"Wow, looks like you really did huh?" Aeo said.

"Why! Didn't you think it was never that we knew it don't our feelings matter?" Artemis said, wiping his face.

"I always knew you-" Aeo began, but Alak stopped him before he could say anything stupid.

"Stop it Aeo, we can't disrespect her even if she deserves it."

Aunt Lina's face showed her pain and sadness. She never wanted it to be this way, but here they were. Alak focused his painful glare at her until he felt as if he were her. He could clearly see what happened a long time ago and how they  were torn apart.

It was cloudy and blurry but he could still understand a bit. However no image was clear, so he still didn't know what they looked like (his mom and dad).

No wonder I only got pictures of when I was give and above. Alak thought.

In the mind of Artemis, everything was not alright. I'm guessing this is why I felt normal. What a hell of a life!

"So, Aunt Lina . . . How did we get these powers?" Artemis asked.

"Artemis, boys, please calm down . . ." Aunt Lina said, also trying to calm down. "Easy for you to say."

"What powers? I . . . I don't know, I'm sorry but I don't know what you're talking about," she said. "Oh, the lies!" Aeo said. He ran upstairs in more tears, "I'm tired of this!"

Artemis slowly walked to his room in silence. He couldn't get a grip of himself so he moved as gently as possible. Alak felt so pained and weak emotionally.

Aunt Lina was drained and wanted to leave the house. She requested to be taken to the first house that was an another building on its own.

As Alak took her there he said to himself. Now I get why we're so rich . . .

He went back to his room and punched the wall until it cracked a bit and scraped his hand.

The next morning, there was no difference in the feeling they felt and the mood was terribly dull.

The dressing was enough to give off the mood. No light colours except grey and black. "Hey Alak" Artemis said, reaching for the cereal box.

"Fetch another bowl would you?" He said. They munched the cereal quietly on the sofa while watching tv.

"Aeo hasn't come down all morning. I'll go check on him," Alak said.

"In my opinion, I think you give him some time . . . Oh my goodness, I have to blow my nose."

The conversation that morning was awfully cold, however, Aunt Lina had come to check on Alak before he told her that it would be better to be away for a few hours. Maybe hang out with her friends or Corey at least.

But Aunt Lina obviously didn't choose any.

"Hey there Elias, how're you doing?" Artemis said, his room didn't feel comfortable enough for the first time and he started sulking silently.

"I'm good, but why do you sound like you're crying? Wait, are you crying?" Elias asked.

Artemis sniffed in and cleaned his tears and said, "No silly," he lied weakly. "Yes." He then confessed. "Why man? I'm gonna come see you," Elias said.

"Nevermind. Can I come see you at the arcade at . . . Uh . . ." Artemis stuttered.

"Down town. Don't worry I'll text you the address." "Thanks a whole lot dude, " Artemis said while slipping on his shoes.

He went over to Alak's room, inquired about Aunt Lina and told him that he was going to see Elias at the arcade. Alak say on his reading table beside the window with his head buried in his knees.

* * * * * * * *

Aeo stepped out of his room with his puffy eyes and messy braids. He looked side to side and motioned for Aunt Lina's room. His heavy eyes made it hard for him to see clearly until he turned on the lights.

He trashed his way to the safe and pulled out all the letters. There was nothing intriguing he found about the letters, it only brought back tears.

In his search across the letters his hand felt a device and he pulled it up.

When he pulled it up, it wasn't just one device. It was a round disc looking thing and a remote. He pressed the button on the disc curiously and it played a message.

He listened to the voice message closely and squinted his eyes in utter confusion at what he was hearing.

He sat still and dropped the disc then allowed the information from the message to sink in.

The plan in his mind was a drastic one and it only made him feel good about it.

He smiled wickedly and picked the remote and pressed the huge red button on it.

(Of course he was going to press the softest and shiniest button I mean who wouldn't).

A square wall materialised in front of him and he smiled even more.

The green square wall pixelated off and the environment in front of him changed completely. People walked busily in jumpsuits with cases in their hands or doing something else.

This movie's awesome and . . . Weird. Aeo thought to himself.

He felt his body being pulled in and the Alak came and startled him.

"Aeo?" He said.

Aeo dropped the remote and fell into the wall with a shriek.

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!" Alak screamed his way down the stairs and didn't stop until he was out the door and in the street .

Then he realised that was really dumb. He realized that Aunt Lina must've gone someplace. He wore his hoodie over his head and walked briskly back to the house with his hands jammed in his pocket.

When he got inside, he  looked again around the house but the house was Aeo-free.

What was he going to do?

He speed dialed Artemis who was just making his way to Artemis. "Artemis, you've gotta get home now."

"I merely just here," Artemis objected. "I'll do your dish duty, as soon as we find out where Aeo is," he said under his breath. "Fine, I'm on my way."

Elias then came up to him and said, "Hey, I searched all over the arcade and you weren't there. Sorry you're having a hard time getting around."

"You know what, I feel better and . . . Um . . . I got a call and I have to go . . . But, I'll make it up to you," Artemis apologized.

He then slowly walked backwards trying to avoid Elias' questioning face. "Okay, bye then," he replied.

Artemis jogged up to a deserted alley and sped off to the house.

When he got in, he met a pacing Alak with a worried expression on his face. "What happened bro?"

When the door opened and Artemis ran in, Alak shouted because he literally just hung up the phone with Artemis. "Super speed, now what is wrong? And where's Aeo?" Artemis asked.

"I don't know. One minute he was in Aunt Lina's room, staring at the wall with a weird looking remote and next thing he was gone." Alak said.

Artemis nearly fell to the ground and got himself together.

"You don't think he . . . You know," he said. "Of course he disappeared inside some portal or something. You know I'm not a fan of this nonsense," Alak said.

"Okay, I didn't binge watch Files Of Detective Conan for nothing. The first thing to do is go back to the crime scene," he joked, making Alak smile.

In Aunt Lina's room, Alak hurried to the exact spot where Aeo had just disappeared. "This was were the magic happened.

"And I assume that that is the dirty gizmo that did the job," Artemis said. "So it seems."

So sad right?

I don't wanna be there guys. this is too much . . . Oh, and where the hell did Aeo go?
