Chapter 18 - Stepping up

With Johnny finally taken care of, so Alak was properly rested from 1/4 of his problems and maybe now he could focus on others things. Aeo on the other hand was so much happy that Artemis was now able to control his electricity and was now in a stable emotional condition.

After all that had happened he, Roxanna and some other classmates of his headed to class.  "Aeo, when you get home, give your brother a big hug for me and also Johnny . . . In case you, you know run into him," she said.

"I'm guessing your blog is very popular now." Aeo said. "Course it is, courtesy of your brother," she commented.

As Aeo and Roxy went on, Aeo had a disturbing thought and then asked Roxanna: "how'd you know your blog is . . . You know . . . Adult proof?"

"I have a record of their ages, duh. You didn't think I was going about posting videos to adults." She responded.

"What if they're take ages?" Aeo asked.

"Oops. Uh, Didn't think that far. But anyway apart from that video, there's nothing that's not suitable for all ages. And don't worry cos your brother and Johnny's identity cannot be known. . ."

After school . . .

"Where were you during the fight mister?" Elias questioned. "To London to visit the queen?" Artemis said, smiling awkwardly.  "I'm serious. I know you were there. . . Or were you?"

"Course . . .  I was. But . . . I . . . Uh, had to leave?" Artemis said. "I knew it! But Aeo said my eyes were playing tricks on me," Elias said. Artemis let out a small laugh.

"Don't mind Aeo, he could be a real savage sometimes though," Artemis replied. "I hear you on that one. See you to tomorrow."

"Bye!"

Alak came out of the school and met with Aeo. He signalled for him to come over and they walked on till they reached Artemis. The silence in the car was now so thick, you could cut through it with a knife.

Alak looked at through the rear-view mirror and sighed. They were both sitting in the back seat which was quite abnormal. "Ok, what's wrong guys?" He asked.

Aeo knew that Artemis talking was the only way that he could speak his mind. Artemis would go the extra mile and make sure that your own voice was heard, so he stayed perfectly quiet.

"What did you do to Johnny?" Artemis said, with a sternly questioning look that he knew Alak could see. "What do you mean?" Alak said.

"Stop playing dumb Alak!" Artemis yelled , making Alak tremble at the steering wheel.

"IT'S NOT WORKING!" Aeo said angrily. "Fine, I'll tell you . . . But not here."

Plastering fake smiles on their faces was the only way that they could make Aunt Lina unsuspicious of the activities that transpired at school when they got home.

"Uh . . . Hey Auntie L," Artemis said. She turned around from the tv, held her arm around the top of the sofa, making her face them at the door.

"Oh, hey boys," she replied.

"Good." Aeo said straightly, not trying to show emotion or draw attention.

She looked at them interrogatively and smiled, "I suppose you had a swell time at school."

'Why all the questions? Could she know something? I knew that Roxanna shouldn't have made that video'

"Sure we did. Now I . . . and maybe them, have to get that homework done," Aeo said, hoping she'd leave them alone. "O . . . Kay. But, Alak I've got something to say to you," Aunt Lina responded.

Aeo and Artemis began heading upstairs slowly, "She must've found out Aeo," "So, what do we do, it's not our problem," They whispered.

"What's . . . Um. . .  Up Aunt Lina?" Alak asked, swallowing a whole gulp full of nothing but saliva. Aunt Lina squinted her eyes towards the stairs to make sure the coast was clear, then she said; "Um . . . Corey called and asked me out on a date sooo . . . "

"Ow, no, you can totally go. There's no need to seek permission from me, I'm totally cool with it and I'm sure the others would approve," Alak said, relieved.

As soon as Alak began started speaking, Aunt Lina tore off her relaxed outfit to reveal a yellow dress and adjusted her hairstyle into a tight ponytail.

"I wasn't taking permission young man," she said.

"I was trying to tell to keep the house in order while I'm gone."

"Okay cool, see you?" Alak said, moving his side swept hair out of his face. Aunt Lina picked up her purse and hurried to the door.

"See you too. And, I'll be back tomorrow night . . . Hopefully," she said on her way out.

"Okay," Alak said, closing the door and not allowing her to say anything else. It was too late before he realised that she actually said tomorrow night.

That's not at all a bad thing . . . He thought.

He grabbed a bottle of water and a bag of potato chips then walked casually up to his room.

He wasn't all surprised to see his brothers hanging around the room but he still acted like he was. "What're you guys doing in my room?"

"Don't play dumb . . . Again, it's Friday. You can be dumb on Saturday, but not-" Aeo said.

"What do you want?" Alak demanded, "We would like to know what you did to Johnny." Artemis said, looking across at Aeo who was lounging in the bed.

Before Alak could even speak, Artemis continued.

"You know he wasn't actually going to hit me . . . I mean he's a chicken."

"Ok guys, we've got until tomorrow night to figure out what's wrong with us." Alak said, not minding his brothers' demand. "What do you mean? That's not the answer to the question." Artemis said as Aeo say up, showing keen interest in the topic.

"I mean, Aunt Lina's out and is not gonna be back till tomorrow night, so we should . . . You know, like so something."

They looked at him funnily, like they found it hard to believe that their big brother was now into stuff like this which he previously thought was junk. "We're listening," they responded uniformly.

"I think I have my powers," Alak confessed.

"Duh," Artemis remarked.

"Took you long enough." Aeo finally said, rolling his eyes.

"Excuse me?" Alak was so confused. I mean he expected at least the littlest form of surprise but got nothing.

"Artemis already had an advancement."

"Really? What is it?" Alak asked. Artemis then ran across the room, closed the curtains and took Alak's wallet right from his pocket. And all that before the bat of an eyelash.

Alak turned around to see the closed curtain, "I could've sworn that was open when I got in . . . Believe me I notice my surroundings."

"Of course you do." Artemis commented sarcastically.

"Yes I do. Enough to know that you took my wallet." He held out his palm and Artemis dropped it back. "Cool, super speed, when did you. . ."

"Do not ignore the question!" Aeo said.

"Fine, but I'm not gonna start from Johnny." "Go on." They said. "Ok, get this, I got an F on one of my major and important homework assignments and somehow Mr. Winter have me an A+ cos I sorta asked him to in my mind or something like that.

When I checked with others, virtually all my answers were wrong. He then asked me a question on the same assignment and he just redirected it when I said; 'Can't you just as he someone else she knows it like Chloe Caribbean? And he did.

So there's nothing surprising in me seemingly mind controlling Johnny to turn around and fight me."

"Hmmm . . . Mind control . . ." Aeo said, stroking his upper lip where his moustache is meant to be.

"Aunt Lina would know something, let's ask her," Artemis suggested.

"In my opinion, that would be stupid, but if you're up to the task, go on . . . No offence," Aeo commented.

"Very funny," Artemis replied.

"No fighting people!" Alak ordered.

"What I was trying to say was, she's out Aunt, our mum's sister . . . She's bound to know something," Artemis explained. "Then let's make a sweep of Aunt Lina's room instead of sitting here and doing nothing."

Aeo and Artemis nodded to their brother's remark as they all scampered hurriedly to her room or should I say the room of truth.

"Ok . . . now we're here, where do we start looking?" Artemis asked.

"Aeo, go to the closet, Artemis, go to the bathroom and the balcony and I'll look around the room." Alak ordered.

"Ok. Anything you see that isn't normal, bring it out here." Aeo made clear. "Ok boss."

After searching thoroughly, it seemed like they were on a wild goose chase until Aeo got his foot on a sort of trapdoor under Aunt Lina's shoe collection.

"Ow, why's this here?" He exclaimed.

"What'd you find?" Artemis called from the ceiling compartment in the bathroom. "Did you know that Aunt Lina has a secret compartment in her bathroom ceiling . . . How come we don't have one."

"Was anything in there?" Alak asked.

"I was just coming to grab a flashlight cos it's pitch black in there. But I don't really think there's anything in there and I'm assuming it's just an escape route cos it has a ladder."

"So, Aeo, what happened? Why'd you exclaim?" Alak inquired. "There's this sick trapdoor sorta thing in Aunt Lina's closet . . . Precisely where she keeps her hideous shoes," Aeo said.

"Disrespectful."

"You need to see it to believe it." Aeo said. They both approached the closet.

"They really aren't good shoes," Artemis commented. "Can you open it Alak."

"Lemme try," Alak said as he moved the hideous shoes out of the way. He grabbed the handle for the door and pulled it. "This thing must be so I'm . . . It won't budge."

"Need some help?" Aeo asked. "Yes, if you would."

When the door opened up, they were surprised, cos there was hardly anything there. Alak reached in an felt nothing. He reached in deeper and felt the ground and before he got his hand out he said, "There's nothing here guys . . ." And they left to continue their search some place else.

Then he felt something and said, "Oh wait, wait, I got some . . . Thing."

He brought the box to the bed and he emptied the contents.

"What's in it?"

"Uh . . . Nothing but some old pictures."

"Then they must be very old," Aeo said. They each grabbed one of the many photos and observed closely. "We had better get to work" Artemis said.

One step closer to the truth . . .

Drop your thoughts guys.
