Chapter 15 - 'Ann- ias'

As they were about leaving Aunt Lina called the brothers back. "You didn't tell me what happened exactly to Artemis’ door," she said with her hands on her waist.

I knew we couldn't hold her for long. Artemis thought.

Aeo quickly reset his smart watch to 8:45, even though it was just 7:48.

"It fell off its hinges, remember... I told you... yesterday when you came back..." Alak said with sweaty palms , knowing fully well that Aunt Lina couldn't remember anything from yesterday.

"Yes, and it's already 8:45, so we've gotta... You know, get going," Aeo said. "... Oh, ok then..." Aunt Lina said, still very astonished and confused.

"Byeee!!!" They exclaimed as they exited.

A cold wind hit Alak’s sweaty face as he opened the front door. He couldn't believe that they had just tricked Aunt Lina. I mean, that was practically impossible.

The thought was disturbing and so he waved it off.

Outside, Artemis met Elias waiting for him on the porch. "Hey Artemis, long time. How’ve you been?" He said, with a smile. He found comfort around Elias’ neck.

"Good." Came the reply.

"Why do cold?" Elias asked, taken aback by the remark. "Three months outta school and not a single call?" Artemis said, equally taken aback.

Artemis opened the car door and got in with Elias. "What do you mean I didn't call? I literally called a thousand times but I wasn't getting through and besides I had enough on my plate with the play we're having in Ms. Bridget's class," Elias explained.

"There's a play going on? How much have I missed?" Artemis asked. "Don't you care anymore that I didn't call you?" Elias questioned.

"Really?" Artemis said.

"Something else-" Elias began. "There's more?" Alak and Aeo said.

"Nosy?" Artemis remarked, making them face forward.

"Let's keep the no call issue aside and fill Artemis  in on the hottest trends in school," Aeo suggested.

"Of course, well, a lot has happened. But this isn't the time or place for any of that," Elias explained to Artemis.

At school, each of them dispersed into the school and scattered to wherever they were supposed to be just like molecular compounds.

Aeo found Roxanna at the Secretary's desk. She looked awesome in her black ankle length boots and leather jacket.

Disturbance was written all over her face as she searched desperately for her phone.

Everyone passing by have a remark and commended on her dressing, though most of the comments weren't for her dressing or her outstanding blonde hair.

They were for her blog she had started about a month and a half ago. It was titled 'Are we really human.' But unlike other blogs, she didn't impose her ideas on others like some crazy maniac who wants everyone to acct his belief.

It was just a funny and cool blog were she did crazy stuff by making people think they aren't  human using practical aspects of life till she breaks it to them that it was all a trick.

Cool right?

Turns out she did a great job last night and a lot of people enjoyed it.

Looks like her aim for fame was really unshelling.

"Great work there Roxy, can't wait to see your next upload," a guy said. "Oh thanks," she said  smiling a little helplessly cos she still couldn't find her phone.

"Hope you find what you're looking for," the guy said, jogging off.

"Thanks?" She said

Aeo walked up to her and said, "Whatcha doin?"

"Sup smarty pants..." She said, hesitantly reaching into her bag.

"What's lost?" Aeo asked. "Nothing, just my phone. But don't worry I know it's here somewhere..." "When you say here, you mean beside your bag right?" Aeo said, spotting her phone right beside her bag.

"You've gotta be kidding me? You know I've been standing for more than 20 minutes searching for this thing and you spent just a second finding it," Roxanna said, laughing.

"Sometimes I don't even know how I do it," Aeo said.

"So what've you been up to that's made you not answer your calls through out the weekend?" Roxy asked, as the made their way to class.

"You wouldn't believe what happened the weekend," Aeo said. "What happened?" She asked. "We..." Aeo began before he bit his lip, restricting him from talking.

Was he just about to say that he and Artemis might just have powers. That was literally the worst risk to take in life. Now that she was popular, it was a huge risk.

Imagine that sorta information getting to the whole world of maybe just 50 thousand people.

That's it, fifty thousand people.

"We what?" Roxanna said.

"We... Um..., Reached almost a... fifty thousand views," Aeo said. "A fifty what?" Roxanna asked.

"Fifty thousand views on your blog," Aeo said, really nervously.

"Oh yes, I know that...." Roxanna said, before her beeped. "Wrong, it's already.... A fifty thousand views," she squealed happily, not knowing why had said a fifty thousand but said it anyway.

"That's great!" Aeo cheered, still nervous but able to get it together.

"But why'd you say we?" Roxanna asked as they entered their class.

"Mmm! Cos I... Was, you know... Um thinking about joining... The... Um... Blog, yes blog," Aeo said.

"Well in that case, you'd better be ready to sign a whole lotta paperwork cos I mean business," she said jokingly.

Thank heavens I was able to get outta this one. I owe you one Trinity. He thought to himself.

"Alright both of you, take your seats and quit that silly chit chat," Mr. Boomerang, their annoying teacher said.....

Elias was feeling so sorry that Artemis wasn't receiving any of his calls. Artemis didn't receive any of Elias’ calls but he should have known better that his electricity must have jammed the damn signal connection.

"Artemis, come on I'm sorry. There's no need to be so quie-" Elias said without completing his his words.

"Don't sweat it. It was still also sorta, kinda, my fault," Artemis said.

"Oh really? Why'd you then let me get so much," Elias questioned with a smile.

Artemis didn't think Elias would be wanted to know the details he also knew that telling Elias this sort of information about their powers was more than a risk.

What am I going to say now? Why's he So in the mood for questions. Oh, virgin Mary, Trinity, come to my aid. Artemis thought.

"You see, I kinda..., You know, blocked the communication signal at home and..." Artemis said, just as a classmate of his came by. He quickly diverted his attention to him.

"Alfred, what's up?" Artemis said.

"Oh, hi. Why've you been absent anyway?" Alfred said. " Don't worry, I'll tell you in Algebra class."

Artemis had luckily managed to save off the topic without Elias suspecting a thing.

"Sooo, you said you had somethings to tell me?" Artemis said.

"Oh, yes. How could I forget."

"Then what are you waiting for?"

"You know three months is a pretty long time and a lot has happened?" Elias said.

"Carry on," Artemis said, happy that Elias had forgotten about what he was saying before.

"Around last week or two weeks ago, oh my God, the news is so good I can't remember the date. So, I was walking down the halls with my head buried in my phone..." Elias began.

"So...? What happened next?" Artemis asked impatiently.

"Shhh, I'm gonna say it now. While walking, of course my head was in my phone and so I wasn't seeing and then I bumped into something..., Well someone, "

"Who?" asked curiously.

"Will you just let me finish sir," Elias said.

"Fine, fine."

"Actually I thought it was one of the lockers till I heard a female voice," Elias said.

Artemis was trying his best to shut his curiosity up.

"I know you have a lot of questions, but your questions would need to wait until after my speech.

"‘Oww, ’ I had heard her say and when I looked up to see the angel in front of me. It was Annie,"

Artemis’ expression showed that he had a hard figuring out who Annie was. "Annie remember, from... Class. Wait... Um... She's the girl that I you know told my feelings... Well, indirectly. Just not if you can remember her."

Artemis nodded immediately.

"Ok, now back to the plot..." Elias said, then Artemis rose his finger . "Yes?"

"Sorry, but you kinda sound like out literature teacher - Mrs. Bridget."

"Thank you for pointing that out so I would never say it again, " Elias said, making them both laugh. "So as I was saying..."

Back to around last week or two weeks ago
(I'm sorry, Elias can't remember the date)

"Oww" Annie said quietly, looking so gorgeous in her sheek red dress and matching black jacket.

She looked up to Elias and said, "ohh, I'm so sorry I didn't mean to bu..." She said half way just as Elias said, "No, it was my fault, I wasn't looking straight."

"So I guess there's no need to blame me then," Annie joked.
They both laughed at the joke and stared at each other till Annie said bye.

Then Elias called her back and said, "Um... I'm off to the cafeteria... Wanna tag along?"

"Oh sure"

When they were there, Elias made sure they had the table themselves and and their conversation began.

"I really liked the way you stood up for Artemis, the new guy," Annie began. "Yeah, it was no biggie," Elias said, looking into her eyes. He knew she was on to something.

"Umm... Elias, did you really mean what you said about me in front of the whole class?" Annie asked.

"You mean when I said will you go out with me?" Elias asked.

"Yes, was that true?"

"Of course it was true," Elias said, making her smile....

Back to the present...

"Wow, congrats!" Artemis said, finally able to speak.

"For what?" Elias questioned, when they got to his locker. "Don't play dumb Elias. You know, for..." Artemis stopped as Sylvia Browne, Annie's friend came over.

The Australian asked, "Have you seen any?"

"Any what?" Both Elias and Artemis asked. "Any, as in your friend," she tried once more. "Ow, so you mean Annie..." "Of course yes," Sylvia said, rolling her eyes.

"Nope, I haven't seen her but she's probably be in the music room... Oh and if you see her, tell her to meet me at cft," Elias said.

"C.f. What?"

"Don't worry, she'll understand," Elias said confidently as Sylvia  walked away.

"Ooo so you already have a coded language right?" Artemis said.

"Stop it," Elias said with red cheeks.

"Ok, ok. But I still have to say what I wanted to say before, which is. Congratulations on being... You know, official." Artemis teased. "Whaaaat? What do you mean official?" Elias said blushing even more profusely with blood red cheeks.

It was even very evident under his dark skin.

"My oh my! Someone is in loove!"

"Artemis," Elias whined.

"Uh huh,"

"Ok fine yes, yes, yes, yes and YES!!!" Elias said without looking directly at his friend. "I like her.... But I haven't made it official." "Doesn't mean you won't, or won't you?"

Artemis felt like something had been lifted off his shoulders and he felt super relaxed. "I think I'd be better as a relationship adviser, rather than a love-sick failure," Artemis said. "You really don't need to be this hard on yourself."

Artemis could already see and hear Johnny approaching as the star player was followed by an entourage.

"Do you mind if we, um... Turn around?" Artemis said, already knowing that Johnny only welcomed trouble.

When both eyes met Johnny immediately recognised Artemis as Alak's brother and sought to bully him.

Artemis tried to gather his emotions cos he knew that if he flipped, everything would go south.

The deafening sound of the chant "Johnny! Johnny!! Johnny!!!" Was sickening to. It almost made Artemis’ ears bleed.

"Well, well, well, if it isn't Alak's brother... Eletri- cken," Johnny said. "Its Artemis jerk."

"And it's Johnny punk. I wanna see your bro defend you now,"
"You know what, talk all you want I wanna see you in action," Artemis said with determination in his eyes and a lot of adrenaline rushing through his veins.

Bring it on sucker!

Intensity everywhere, tell me what you think.

Did Artemis make a right decision?
