Chapter 1- Getting to know them
Present year: 2025.
Alak, Artemis and Aeo lived with their Aunt in her semi detached duplex on Rashford road by the Ashtown plaza. She was all they had. Their other relatives were never introduced to them and they didn't even know their parents.
"Come down for breakfast or you're gonna be late!" Aunt Lina said scrambling the scrambled eggs in the frying pan.
"Don't worry, I'll get them down," Alak, the oldest said, mischeavously raising an eyebrow. "Oh no you don't, we don't want another lip cut this week," Aunt Lina cautioned.
"It wasn't even that serious, Artemis was just overreacting," he said in defense.
"Mm hmm," Aunt Lina murmured, not believing him. Alak was the aggressive, no nonsense one who was just learning to control his anger. . . kinda.
He didn't like people picking on his brothers except himself. He wanted the best for them and this was his way of showing it.
"If you guys don't get down right now . . . ."
"We're here, we're here . . .ugh calm down," Aeo, the sarcastic teenager said, typing away on his phone.
He was much more different from his brother. He was generally normal to throwing caution to the wind, being care free and stuff but this isn't important now, what's important is where the hell Artemis was?
"You said we're here, . ." Alak said.
"Mmm hmmm!" Aeo responded.
"Where's Artemis?" Alak said almost confused (key word, almost. He knew exactly where he was).
"Ow he's making sure his hair and breath are okay for school. Typical Tems am I right?" Aeo said not looking away from his phone screen, hitting his fork on the table, trying to find either his scrambled eggs or bacon.
"And also hitting some makeup on," Aeo added.
"He wears makeup?" Alak said. "Don't get it all wrong bro, obviously it's not the lady kind. I just decided to use that word," Aeo said smiling naughtily.
"Here I am," Artemis said, coming down very casually and relaxed like they weren't waiting for him. "Good morning Auntie L," he waved to her and grabbed a seat by the kitchen island.
He jumped right off and gave a bright smile, doing jazz hands,
"How do I look for the new school guys?"
"What new school?" Alak asked and Aeo looked towards for a split second, almost concerned.
"What do you mean what new school? Of course it's Willoughby Hi . . ." Artemis was saying before he realised he wasn't supposed to say that.
Aunt Lina slapped her hand against her forehead and held the bridge of her nose, shaking her head.
"Willoughby, WHAT!?!?!" Alak questioned.
"Aren't you excited?" Aunt Lina said trying to win him back. "Why didn't you mention this before," Alak said. Aeo walked from where he was sitting, with his plate to the kitchen sink.
There was no way he getting involved in this. Alak and Aunt Lina didn't really agree on anything.
"Ok . . . Alak, it won't be so bad. Right?" Artemis said trying to ease the air.
"Alak, you are not in charge of yourself.
You are only 17 years old, you're a minor and I make the decisions. Now go get ready!" Aunt Lina shouted on top of her lungs. "It's just one more year and I'll be an adult."
"Well until then, you answer to me!"
It had been so long since Aunt Lina had had an outburst that immense.
Alak's face was flushed with guilt as he realised Aunt Lina was actually right and couldn't possibly afford to make a wrong choice concerning them.
"You could've at least told us instead of just Artemis." "I knew," Aeo chipped in, licking his fingers.
"Really? As if not knowing about this isn't enough I'm the only one who didn't know?" Alak asked, completely surprised.
"Besides, how'd we even get in?" Alak said. Then Aeo grabbed the opportunity to say his very annoying catch word, "Thiiiiiiink!"
"You mean that 'performance' exam we had here was just an entrance exam in disguise?" He said, air quoting the performance.
"No no no, the performance exam was an entrance exam in da' skies," Aeo said without leaving even a smirk.
Artemis tried his best to control his laughter but it was futile. At least it eased up Aunt Lina's mood. "This is not the time for jokes," Alak said. "I'm not joking, you pronounced it wrongly and I corrected you that's all."
"Aunt Lina, you do realize we're gonna have to fit in again do you?" Alak said looking so sad.
Socializing was not actually his thing and he managed to at least gather a number of friends before. "You signed us up as exchange students right? No wonder we left L.A."
"You're gonna do fine. Now stop being a baby about this. I didn't think Tems'll let the cat out of the bag." "Sorry."
"Surprises are not really my thing ok? But . . . Fine you win this time Aunt Lina." Alak said, not having anything to say again. "Ok, how about we settle this with an arm wrestle?" Aunt Lina offered.
Alak stretched out his hand and they began the battle. It was really tough but they couldn't finish because Artemis yelled, "It's time to GO!"
Though, they did well fitting in at their old school but a new one would mean new friends, clubs, teachers and of course, enemies.
But they had done it before so it couldn't be harder the second time. Could it? All that mattered was their first impression, and that was why Artemis was hell bent on looking PERFECT.
There was no use arguing about it anymore. What Alak had to do was just think 'yellow' like his brothers, be optimistic and respect his Aunt's decision, though it didn't seem like it bothered them
Most especially Aeo.
Hello my Queen," Aunt Lina said right after she excused herself for a very important call. The others were waiting in the living room for her to get back.
"Don't say that. . ,just calling to check in," replied a deep female voice over the phone. "They're ok. . . They're about going to school. . ."
"I'm sorry, I've gotta go. Yes it's over her. ." the voice said replying to someone else.
Aunt Lina shrugged her shoulders and hung up. She was about going when Aeo bumped into her, startling her. "Who was that?" He asked.
"None of your business young man, quit being nosy," Aunt Lina said nervously.
"Why're you getting so worked up over something so irrelevant, I mean it was just a simple phone call," Aeo said wondering why she was all. . . . . you know.
"Whatever I was saying does not concern you. . .kind of," she said.
"What are you even saying? You know what. . . . its none of my business so I don't care."
"Just be grateful it wasn't Alak or someone else, otherwise he'd have swallowed you up just the the way alie. . ." He said.
A wave of nostalgia came over Aunt Lina with those words.
"Aeo Wayne Mondego, what have I said about fantasy and reality," she said, packing herself up and walking back out.
"You always said that fantasy is just my and only my imagination."
Aunt Lina smiled and walked out.
"Let's go guys!" She called, as they came to the door. " I thought you said I was gonna drive to school? " Alak said.
"Like you know where you're going," she replied. "That's a point." Alak reluctantly agreed.
When they all got into the car Aunt Lina gave a head count and discovered Artemis wasn't in the car.
Alak grinned to himself thinking Aunt Lina was gonna tell him to calm down but instead she smiled, giving him the go ahead.
He opened the door and was about getting out before Artemis appeared, trying to zip his bag.
"Would you like a seat?" Alak said with gritted teeth. "Sure, right after I zip this thing." Alak grabbed the bag and gestured with an outstretched arm for him to take a seat.
Aeo rolled his eyes and looked forward in the front of the car, almost smiling to himself.
Alak was a reserved guy but that didn't mean he was 100% gentle or something like that. He had anger issues and thought that the best way for him to avoid his TT's (temper tantrums) was to be by himself, which was completely impossible.
He once got way out of control in middle school where he and a boy fought over someone teasing Aeo. The issue was reported to their biology teacher and he was simply fair not to take any serious punishment on them.
He dismissed the other boy and taught Alak how to simply control his anger issues.
'If you ever get angry you don't always need to let it out. Just count from one to a hundred and before you reach ten you'd've calmed down.'
This usually worked quite well for him when he was dealing with matters of his own but when his brothers needed help, he packed a punch.
He loved his brothers more than anything else in the world, but he never showed it. He always wanted to look tough though he already was.
Artemis the 15 year old was an optimistic guy who was always wearing and doing anything that was trending. Much more popular than his brother.
He much rather enjoyed impressing girls than picking up fights.
Some might call him a flirt but I won't say that exactly because most girls didn't actually pay attention to him and he had never been involved in a real relationship except for that one he had with a girl called Nia.
Don't worry guys, there's still a lot to know about them, so strap in , cos this is gonna be a long ride.
