chapter 3 - As it Seems

----Zakary ----

Rotating around a house a day later, I looked up at the house that belonged to the hunters. Shannon and Dan, I thought were their names. I hadn't really been paying attention.

After they left where they had gone to school, I had followed them here, staying in the shadows and in cars with tinted windows as to not burn in the sun.

It was nightfall now, and I could now stand out of the car, listening to the sounds from inside the house.

"We have to go back to Helena's tomorrow," the girl said. . . Shannon.

"Yep," the brother agreed. "I know."

I heard someone plop down on a. . was it a leather couch? "I don't want to go back," she complained.

I smirked. You'll have bigger problems to deal with soon.

"Is that where they live?" Monika appeared from behind me. Her tone implied that she wanted to go into that house and rip everyone into shreads.

I turned, facing her as she walked closer. "It is."

An smile that craved for death crossed her lips. "I want to go in there--"

"You can't," I interrupted her. If it was anyone else who had cut her off, they'd be dead in less than a second. "Invite, remember?"

"I remember," Monika growled. But she wasn't looking at me. She was looking at the house. She gained composure and sighed heavily, turning back into her childish, carefree state of mind. "How many?"

"The two hunters I saw last night--teens, we'll be able to take them out easily." She nodded for me to continue. "A mother, and then a toddler that sounds about three, maybe four."

"No father?"

"No father."

She turned to me once more. "Time to play?"

Monika may have sounded like the youngest hunter when she asked, but the games she wanted to play were conpletely different.

I could feel a wicked smile crossing my face. "Let the games begin."

----Shannon----

Our two day break didn't seem to last very long. I groaned as I walked in to Helena's coffee shop and went straight to my apron.

For once, I was actually here before Dan. When did that ever happen?

"You're late," Helena snapped as she walked out of the back room. How did she always seem to know when we were coming when she couldn't see us? "Where's your brother?"

I looked to the door, expecting to come in right there. Normally, when Helena would ask Dan where I was, I was walking through the door.

He wasn't there, though.

I turned back to Helena for a second and shrugged, shaking my head. "Don't know."

I dropped my backpack and watched as the sun went down through the long row of windows.

Sighing as I grabbed my pen and note pad, I went straight to the tables, forcing a smile and faking sweetness.

"Sorry I'm late," Dan called as he did his usual sliding over the counter, dropping his bag on the floor as he reached the other side.

I rolled my eyes and went to cash in the order, hoping he'd hurry up with it. "Perfect timing," I told him as I put the order in his hands, walking away. "Make it quick!"

I went on out to work agaib, seeing a blond who was super hot, around my age. His eyes were like chocolate brown, and I smiled at him while I went to get his order.

"Hi, welcome to Helena's," I said the scripted lines, but this time, I didn't have to fake the enthusiasim. "What's your name?"

The guy smiled brightly, but it was a different kind of smile, like a smirk. "I'm Zakary."

----Zakary----

Advantages for today, neither the waitress hunter or cooker hunter could sense my presence anymore. That was the way it worked.

The only way I knew if they were near, was if I could see them, just like they had to see me. The warning for both sides were used. We couldn't use them again.

That's what I had been counting on when I walked into the cafe, immediately seeing the girl hunter. The sun had gone down, and then the brother walked in. "Sorry I'm late."

He jumped over the counter and dropped his bag. My eyes flashed to the girl as she rolled hers and walked to him . "Perfect timing." She grabbed his hand and put a piece of paper into it and walked away, calling, "Make it quick."

Her eyes turned to me, and she smiled, walking closer as I could see her blue eyes flash. . her eyes were like Monika's. Somewhat. "Hi. Welcome to Helena's." I smirked as she went on. "What's your name?"

I smirked wider. She hadn't asked any other customers their names. "I'm Zakary."

She nodded and wrote the name down on the pad, as if to remember to give the order to. "What would you like?"

I envisioned getting up and sucking the hunter dry, in the middle of the busy cafe, but I just smirked. "The best thing you have."

A normal human being wouldn't have been able to hear her gulp, but a vampire could. "Okay. I'll be right back."

She walked away, back to her brother, about to tell him something, but he interrupted. "Yeah, you're supposed to be working, not flirting."

There was a tiny scoff coming from Shannon as I smirked again. "I can do both."

I didn't pay attention to what she said next. I was toi busy with my thoughts.

This was going to be easy.

----Monika----

Waiting about a block away, I was having just the teeniest tough time not to run to the cafe and kill both the hunters.

But where would be the fun in that? I wanted to make them suffer. It didn't matter if they weren't the hunters that really pissed me off. That whole bloodline deserved to die. The two in there, the mother and maybe even the youngest one.

They all deserved to suffer.

Wind flowing behind me, I turned.around face Zakary. "You can't sneak up on me."

He smirked as he walked closer. "I can try."

Tilting my head, I smiled a smile that would scare a fifteen year old. "What did you learn?"

"Not much," Zakary admitted his failure. I grew cold, but then he smiled once more. "Except they like to play games."

I smiled again, walking closer to him. "They won't like this one."

In complete agreeance with the other, I sucked in a deep breath before pulling him closer, forcing our lips to meet, and he was happy to oblidge.

He pulled away after a minute. "You want to call the others?"

I shook my head. "We've got this on our own."

Hr smirked again, and we left the adbandoned ally, going to share a warm body to eat.

Raytin was in for a big surprise.
