Chapter 16
It was match day, and the air was thick with excitement and nerves. India was set to clash with New Zealand in a much-anticipated cricket match. In the VIP stands, Kiara, Ritika, and Samaira sat with bated breath, their eyes glued to the field. "Can you believe it? India vs. New Zealand! This is going to be epic!" Ritika exclaimed, her voice trembling with anticipation.
Kiara nodded, her eyes scanning the field. "Yeah, I just hope we get a good start."Out on the pitch, the captains met for the toss. Rohit Sharma and Tom Latham exchanged a firm handshake before Rohit flipped the coin high into the air. The stadium fell silent for a moment, every eye following the coin's descent. "Heads it is," the umpire announced, and a roar erupted from the Indian fans.
Rohit grinned and announced, "We'll bat first."Back in the dressing room, Rohit addressed his team. "Alright, boys. We're batting. Shubman, pad up."
Shubman nodded, a determined look in his eyes. "Got it, bhai."As Rohit and Shubman walked onto the field, Shubman glanced towards the VIP stands. Kiara caught his eye and smiled, giving him a confident nod. Shubman returned the smile, feeling a surge of motivation.
The game began well for India. Rohit and Shubman played with focus and skill, bringing the score to 60 without loss. Rohit had already made 34 runs when Blair Tickner bowled a delivery that Rohit tried to loft over the infield. The ball soared high but didn't go far enough. Daryl Mitchell positioned himself under it and caught it cleanly. The score was now 60 for 1.
Kiara sighed. "Well, it's a good start. We just need to keep this momentum going."
Next came Virat Kohli, greeted by a roar from the crowd. He and Shubman steadied the ship, taking the score to 88 before Virat was bowled by Mitchell Santner, adding just 8 runs to his name. The scoreboard read 88 for 2.
Ishan Kishan was next. He and Shubman worked diligently, taking the score to 110. But then, Lockie Ferguson's pace proved too much for Ishan, who skied a ball to Tom Latham. Ishan walked back with only 5 runs. The score was 110 for 3.
Suryakumar Yadav walked in with determination. He and Shubman built a solid partnership, bringing the score to 175. Suryakumar played some beautiful shots but eventually fell to Daryl Mitchell's bowling, caught by Mitchell Santner after scoring 31 runs. The score was now 175 for 4.
"Come on, Shubman. Hold the fort," Kiara whispered, her hands clenched tightly.
Hardik Pandya was next, and he partnered well with Shubman. Together, they took the score to 249 before Hardik was bowled by Mitchell, having contributed 28 runs. The score stood at 249 for 5.
Washington Sundar then joined Shubman, and they pushed the score to 292. Washington added 12 runs before being dismissed lbw by Henry Shipley. The scoreboard showed 292 for 6.
Shubman was on fire. His performance was met with thunderous applause as he reached a double century. Kiara stood up, clapping and cheering loudly, filled with pride as Shubman acknowledged the crowd with his signature bow.
Shardul Thakur came in next. He and Shubman added another 10 runs, but Shardul was run out by Mitchell Santner for just 3 runs. The score was 302 for 7.
Kuldeep Yadav joined Shubman, and together they pushed the score to 345. Shubman had scored a monumental 208 runs. But then, Henry Shipley bowled a delivery that Shubman misjudged, and Glenn Phillips took the catch. Shubman walked back to the stands to a standing ovation, his team and fans acknowledging his incredible contribution."That was just brilliant," Ritika said, her voice filled with admiration.
India finished their innings at 349 for 8 after 50 overs, with contributions from Mohammad Shami and Kuldeep Yadav.
After a short break, the New Zealand openers, Finn Allen and Devon Conway, stepped onto the field. They started cautiously but soon found their rhythm, scoring 28 runs before Conway was caught by Kuldeep off Siraj's bowling. The score was 28 for 1.
Henry Nicholls joined Allen, and they pushed the score to 70 before Allen was caught by Shahbaz Ahmed off Shardul's bowling. The score was now 70 for 2.
Daryl Mitchell came in next. He and Nicholls added 8 runs before Nicholls was dismissed lbw by Kuldeep Yadav. The scoreboard showed 78 for 3.
Tom Latham joined Mitchell, and they managed to add 11 more runs before Mitchell was also dismissed lbw by Kuldeep. The score stood at 89 for 4.
Glenn Phillips stepped in, and he and Latham took the score to 110 before Latham was caught by Washington Sundar off Siraj's bowling. The score was 110 for 5.
Michael Bracewell came to the crease and, with Phillips, steadied the innings, taking the score to 131 before Phillips was bowled by Shami. The score was now 131 for 6.
Mitchell Santner joined Bracewell and the two built a strong partnership, adding 162 runs before Santner was caught by Suryakumar off Siraj's bowling. The score was 293 for 7.
Henry Shipley joined Bracewell, adding just one run before Shipley was bowled by Siraj. The score was 294 for 8.
Lockie Ferguson then took the field. He and Bracewell pushed the score to 328 before Ferguson was caught by Shubman off Hardik's bowling. The score was 328 for 9.
Blair Tickner joined Bracewell, and they added 9 more runs before Bracewell was dismissed by Shardul Thakur. The final score was 337, and New Zealand was all out in 49.2 overs.
India emerged victorious, winning the match by 12 runs. The stadium erupted in cheers, the Indian players hugged and celebrated, and the crowd sang and danced."That was incredible!"
Samaira shouted over the noise. "What a game!"Kiara beamed, her heart swelling with pride and joy. "It was. Shubman was amazing today."
The atmosphere was electric as Shubman Gill was awarded the Player of the Match trophy. His face lit up with a triumphant smile, the kind that comes from deep satisfaction and pride. The crowd cheered loudly, their voices echoing through the stadium. Shubman then engaged in a lively post-match interview with Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma. They laughed, joked, and relived the highlights of the match, the camaraderie evident in their easy banter.
"Shubman, you were on fire today!" Ishan exclaimed, slapping Shubman on the back. "That double century was something else!"
"Thanks, Ishan. It was a team effort, though," Shubman replied modestly, his grin widening.
Rohit chimed in, "Well, the team definitely owes you a treat. Dinner on you tonight?"
Shubman laughed. "I think I can manage that."
After the interviews, Shubman made his way back to the dressing room, where he quickly packed his bags. His thoughts drifted to Kiara, hoping she had watched his performance. As he headed towards the team bus, he pulled out his phone. A notification from Instagram caught his eye: Kiara had tagged him in a post. Curious, he opened it and saw a photo of him on the field, holding his bat high.
Congratulations on the double century and the player of the match baby.❤️❤️

A warm smile spread across his face. He put his phone away, feeling a surge of happiness. The bus ride to the hotel was filled with the team's chatter and laughter, but Shubman's mind was already at the hotel, where he knew Kiara was waiting.
When they arrived, everyone headed to their rooms. Shubman unlocked his door and found Kiara sitting on the bed, scrolling through her phone. She looked up as he entered, her eyes sparkling with pride and love.
"Congratulations, baby," Kiara said, getting up to hug him.
"Thanks, Kiki," Shubman replied, holding her tightly. The exhaustion from the day's exertions began to catch up with him, but the warmth of her embrace rejuvenated him.
"I saw your post," he said, pulling back slightly to look at her.
Kiara smiled. "I'm so proud of you, Shubman. You were amazing out there."
Shubman took a quick shower, the hot water helping to soothe his tired muscles. He emerged in a comfortable t-shirt and shorts, feeling more relaxed. He sat on the bed next to Kiara, who was still beaming with pride.
"You must be exhausted," Kiara said softly, brushing a strand of hair away from his forehead.
"I am, but it's a good kind of tired," he admitted, leaning back onto the pillows.
Kiara changed into her pajamas and turned off the lights, the room falling into a comforting darkness. She climbed into bed, snuggling up to Shubman. He wrapped his arms around her, feeling the day's tensions melt away.
"This was an amazing day," he whispered, his voice heavy with sleep.
"It really was," Kiara replied, her head resting on his chest. "I'm so glad I could share it with you."
They lay there in the quiet, the sound of their breathing the only noise in the room. The victory was sweet, but the warmth and comfort of being together was sweeter still. As they drifted off to sleep, the satisfaction of the day's achievements and the promise of many more to come filled their dreams.
