Part 13: Biana meets a random unconscious person
This is Biana's POV. Idk what song would be good, please suggest one.
I rushed forward to where the Neverseen had dropped the unconscious figure. It was a girl, about my age, with chin-length, curly black hair, sunkissed skin, and a fashionable yellow dress. She had a long scar, starting a bit above her right eyebrow down to her cheekbone. Biana didn't know what it was, but something about her features seemed....off. Different from other elves. Biana shook the girl, trying to wake her, and gasped. Half of her left arm was missing. It just ended in a stump. Sophie sprinted out from behind the boulder. She crouched next to the unconscious girl.
"Biana? Where are you?" she asked. I realized I was still invisible. Oops. It was easy to forget. Once I turned invisible to spy on Fitz (I thought he was doing Black Swan stuff without me), and I forgot to turn back the whole rest of the day. I did my homework, took a shower, and went down to dinner, where Fitz screamed in surprise when I went to mess up his hair. It had been hilarious.
"Here," I said and turned back. Sophie jumped, not having realized I was sitting next to her. "Sorry, I forgot I was invisible." She laughed.
"How do you forget something like that?" I shrugged. Being invisible was tiring, yet it felt natural. Sometimes I turned invisible by accident, without thinking about it.
"Her arm..." I trailed off.
Sophie shrugged. "She's missing an arm. There are people in the human world who are missing some of their limbs. Aren't there any elves like that?" I shook my head. I was shocked that Sophie was so...calm about it.
"Check her memories. See if they are there," I said. Sophie nodded, closing her eyes. I wondered if the girl was working with the Neverseen. Maybe she had betrayed them, or she was just unlucky and had been kidnapped by them for seeing something she wasn't supposed to. I hoped her memories weren't gone. Even if she was working with the Neverseen, losing your memory would be awful. Opening her eyes, Sophie blinked.
"They're all there, but I don't know, there is an odd feel to them. And they seem pretty normal, but it was really easy to break through into her mind. Maybe because she is unconscious? I think that should be easy to fix, right?" Sophie looked at me anxiously. "And she is not unconscious like how.....Keefe was. A few memories came up when I searched for Neverseen, but I didn't look at them. I'm going to ask Mr. Forkle if that's legal first." I sighed in relief. She was probably not a spy and wasn't injured, other than being unconscious. That was good. I hated spies after the whole thing with Alvar. I blinked back the tears that always appeared when I thought of Alvar. I was angry at him, so angry. But...I didn't want him to die. Which seemed pretty likely after Sophie and Keefe's last encounter with him. He was my brother, and I still loved him, even after his betrayal. If I saw him again, I would probably smack him for joining the Neverseen, and I was pretty sure I would never forgive him...but....he was still my brother. My big brother, who was supposed to protect me. I shook my head. Now was not the time to get teary-eyed.
"How did the Neverseen know where I was hiding?" Sophie asked. I shrugged. It bothered me too, the way they had just suddenly left. But now was not the time to wonder about the answer.
"Let's take her to the Healing Center. I'll hail Mr. Forkle." I said. Sophie nodded. We grabbed the girl and propped her up. Sophie took out her pathfinder, and we leaped away.
At the Healing Center, Elwin bustled around the room. He had checked the girl over and said she was fine, the Neverseen had simply given her a typical sleeping draught.
"It's so refreshing for someone to have something wrong that is easy to fix." he had exclaimed. "I just need to give her a simple elixir." Meanwhile, Mr. Forkle interrogated us.
"The Neverseen just...leaped away?" he asked for the millionth time. I rolled my eyes.
"The answer is still yes," I said sarcastically, for the millionth time.
"Can we look at her Neverseen related memories?" Sophie asked.
"Let's wait until she is awake and then ask. If she is innocent, she might be annoyed that we took a look at her memories without permission," Forkle said. I sighed. Forkle was so annoying. He treated us like kids, not trusting our answers, positive we left something out.
"Do you know anything about the girl? Recognize her from school?" he asked. I sighed.
"She has a fabulous fashion sense," I said. Forkle sighed and muttered something that sounded like "you kids." I smiled at him. If he was not going to trust that we knew what we were talking about, then I was going to annoy him.
"Something, important perhaps?" he said.
"She looks about our age?" Sophie suggested.
"She goes to Exillium," I said. Sophie and Forkle looked surprised. I held up a leaping crystal that had been in her pocket. It was a pale yellow, and looked like the leaping crystals from Exillium, although those had been temporary crystals. I had heard Exillium was giving out reusable leaping crystals to students, as they were staying in the same place for longer.
"What? Don't look so surprised because I figured something out for once," I joked, although I was a bit hurt by their surprise. I was smart, I could figure things out. I wasn't some dumb princessy girl. Suddenly the girl gasped. She had awoken. We all rushed over to her side. She groaned and grabbed her head.
"Sorry, many people have headaches after being forcibly woken from a sleeping draught," Elwin said sheepishly. She looked at him, confused.
"Where am I? Who are you guys?" she asked. Mr. Forkle and Sophie looked hesitant to give her their names. I felt bad for her, and also wanted to ask where she got her dress, so I didn't hesitate.
"I'm Biana Vacker. What's your name and where did you get that dress?" I asked. She looked a bit less uncomfortable now.
''I am Zyfira Daei. I got this dress...somewhere. I don't know." she responded. I sighed. Why could people never remember where they got their clothes? Sophie bit her lip and stepped forward.
"I'm Sophie Foster. Can I look through your memories involving the Neverseen?" she asked. We all held our breath as she hesitated with her answer.
"Okay," Zyfira said, a tremble to her voice. Sophie reacher out and touched her temples.
"Do you know how to sort memories you don't want to be seen?" she asked. Zyfira nodded. Sophie and Zyfira closed their eyes, looking through the memories. Zyfira fidgeted.
"There's one memory involving the Neverseen you don't want to be seen," Sophie said. Zyfira paled.
'It's an......embarassing one." Zyfira said. "Not important," she emphasized. Sophie nodded.
"I don't think I need it. We can ask Keefe to monitor your emotions to make sure you are telling the truth." Sophie suggested. Zyfira frowned.
"Who's Keefe?" she asked. Sophie didn't respond. She had been touchy about anything involving Keefe. She had been spending a lot of time in the Healing Center, helping Elwin, but didn't really hang out with Keefe much. I think she was got too sad, seeing that Keefe was really gone.
"A friend of ours," I said. "He is an Empath. Sophie, can you get him?" Sophie nodded. She headed into the main wing of the Healing Center. A minute later, she returned, Keefe rolling in a wheelchair next to her. Because of the coma, his muscles had lost a lot of strength, but he was building it up again. He could walk short distances, but he had already walked a lot today, and Elwin didn't want him to tire himself out too much because he was scared it could put him back in the coma.
"Hi, I'm Keefe," he said warmly.
"I'm Zyfira," she said.
"You don't have to be scared. I am just going to sense your emotions while Sophie asks you a question." Keefe said, smiling at her. Zyfira blinked, surprised he could read her emotions so easily.
"How did you..."
"I can sense people's emotions as long as I am in the same room as them. If its really strong emotions, I can even sense them from several rooms away. Your emotions are especially strong. They feel kinda different..." Keefe trailed off. "Anyway, Sophie, ask her the question."
"Is the memory you are hiding important?" Sophie asked.
"No, not really. Just embarrassing," Zyfira answered. Keefe stared at her intimidatingly. Zyfira gulped.
"You are....telling the truth!" he said, throwing his arms in the air. Zyfira stared at him for a few seconds, then started laughing.
"That was mean of you!" she said. Keefe smirked. I giggled. Keefe had retained his sense of humor, despite the memory loss.
"Just tell us who your parents are so we can tell them where you are, and you should probably stay for a few days just to make sure everything is fine, and then you are good to go," Elwin said. Zyfira looked like she was going to argue but instead just nodded. I was relieved. That wasn't nearly as difficult or complicated as I thought it would be.
