Alexis

Sophia, Grace and I all make our way to the women's room after lunch. The Queen smiles at us as we enter and sit together. "Have you seen the latest magazine votes?" Sophia grabs one from the table. I shake my head. She turns it over to the back page and points to it. 

~The Selection~ Public Votes~

1st~ Lady Alexis

2nd~ Lady Sophia

3rd~ Lady Grace

4th~ Lady Destiny 

"See even the public thinks you would be a better Queen than Destiny!" Grace exclaims. Destiny looks over at us and glares. The Queen glances at us weirdly and Grace smiles sheepishly. 

"But the Prince doesn't have to consider the votes of the public. He takes much more into consideration." Sophia whines. "Have you been on a date with him yet?" I question, she nods. "Has he kissed you?" She nods. I know it shouldn't matter but it feels as if he's cheating on me, but that's what he's supposed to do. I ignore the piercing pain I suddenly feel and smile.

"But it was only on the cheek." Sophia says, "He likes you too much to kiss anyone else." I pretend to wave it off but the pain inside is now replaced with happiness. "I'm sure that Destiny hasn't even gotten a kiss on the cheek. You are obviously going to win." Grace reasons.

"But shouldn't you be more optimistic Alexis. Your family hasn't been captured. You should hope that they won't get captured." "True but isn't it better to be prepared and organised than for us to just leave not knowing what to do? I would rather plan ahead even if they won't get captured than me hoping they don't. I really do hope they don't get captured but the chances are slim."

"Do you know how reasonable you sound? Its getting annoying that you are able to sound truthful even if I don't want you to." Sophia crosses her arms and pouts. We laugh at her reaction and she joins in. Its nice to laugh, even if we are in a competition and even if our families might get captured.

Shane Leger walks in and his eyes lock gazes with mine. "Queen America may I speak to Lady Alexis." She nods slowly. She looks between us with a nervous face. I stand up and  go over to him, ignoring the looks I get from Sophia and Grace. 

Once we exit the room he speaks. "I gathered all the things we might need, clothes, food, water, maps, and other necessities." "Lady Grace is going to come as well." I say. He nods. "I already know. I was on duty outside her room when you were talking about it." 

I stare at him blankly. "I am going to accompany you as well so is another person." "Who is the other person?" A guard starts to come down the hallway. "That doesn't matter now. Let's go somewhere else so I can explain the plan." I nod and he leads me out of the hallway.

"You better get back before someone suspects something." I nod and quickly go back to the other room.

I sit back down with Sophia and Grace. "What happened?" "He explained the plan." I say quietly. "Ooooh," 

"lady Alexis?" Queen America calls out. I walk over to her and curtsy. SHe gestures for me to sit down so I dit opposite her. "What is your relation with Officer Leger?" She asks. "Your majesty, he's my cousin." I reply. She opens and closes her mouth and looks confused. 

"My mother and his mother are sisters." I explain. She nods and smiles to herself. "His mother was one of my maids in the Selection." Her smile widens. "Miss, if you don't mind me asking, why do you always look so nervous around officer Leger?" 

"I knew his father Aspen, before the Selection. We were friends, well more than friends but that doesn't matter." Her face saddens. "What happened?" I ask.

"We were planning on getting married but then the letter arrived. He told me to enter because I deserved someone that isn't from a low caste. We broke everything off and then I got chosen for the Selection." 

"Remember this Lady Alexis, even though you think you love someone, you may love someone else more. Your first love is not always your best love remember that.'' She stands up and walks out.
