~Alexis POV~

Today is Iris' birthday. I wear a light yellow strapless floor length dress that has a sweetheart neckline. I wear it along with matching ballet flats. My hair is put into a french braid on the side. I have a light layer of nude lip gloss.

I also have a little golden necklace with a small heart pendant. I wil try to be happy, for Iris. Alex's death still has me upset even though it has been 2 weeks.

I sigh then head downstairs to the Women's room. The whole room is decorated with yellow. As you can probably tell yellow is her favourite colour. I walk around and find Iris talking to Pandora, "Happy Birthday Iris!" I say in the most enthusiastic tone I can muster. "Thank you Alexis, I hope this party gets your mind off 'you know who'." I smile then wave goodbye.

I really don't feel like socialising right now.

I sit by a window and look out to the gardens. I can see the rose garden and the lake, but the thing that catches my eyes is the place where Alex got shot. I close my eyes and look away, the gardens used to be a peaceful and beautiful area now it haounts me about eh horrors that occurred there.

I can feel someone sit next to me but I still don't open my eyes. "Alexis?" When I open my eyes they close gazes with the familiar chocolate brown ones of Prince Drew. "Yes Drew?" "Do you want to talk?" I shake my head signalling a 'no'. I expect him to get up and leave but all he does is take my hand. His simple gesture calms me down.

"Thanks." I say. "For what?" "For some reason you are always able to calm me down."

He shows his smile that I have fallen for.

I stand up and drew stands up as well. "We shoulld join the party now, especially since it is Iris' one." He nods in agreement and we make our way back to the group of people.

I hear Iris' voice shouting so I go to see her.

Haylie is standing there smirking with the sleeve and part of the body of the golden dress in her hand. The beads it was embroided with are spilt all over the floor.

Iris is there crying her tears joining the beads on the floor. Iris runs out of the room beads trailing behind her. Pandora runs out after her and I stop myself from running as well.

Haylie still has a smirk on her makeup caked face. I walk up to her and rip her dress a few inches down from her waist. Everyone is silent as the dress rips.

Haylie gasps and smacks me across the face. "Guards take lady Haylie to her room to pack her items then take her to her province." Queen America commands.

"What why?" Haylie asks now she is the one crying. "You have broken one of the essential rules of the selection. No physical contact."

"You." She says in an accusing way, pointing her finger at me. "You will pay for ruining my chances."

"I didn't put a spell on you to make you slap me. It was your own doing."

She let's out a scream of anger as the guards drag her out.

I walk out of the room and walk mindlessly til I somehow make it to the gardens.

Ii sit by the lake for a long ttime by myself. I hear footsteps coming toward me yet I don't turn around.

"Iris is looking for you." Drew's familiar voice informs me. "Is she okay now?" I ask, I hope she is. no ones birthday should be ruined, especially Iris.

''She's fine now ever since I told her what you did. She really wants to talk to you though." 

"Okay I will see her now. I can't believe it. we started with 35 and now there are 9." "Well I have already figured out who I am going to ask to marry me. I just want to get to know her more." I stand there, mouth open staring wide-eyed at him. He winks at me then walks back towards the palace.

I head the same way minutes afterwards and make my way to Iris' room. I knock on the door and Iris' familiar voice answers. "Come in."

I push the door open and sit on her bed next to her.

"She got eliminated." I say calmly. 

She turns at me wide eyed. "Really?" I smile at her and nod. "Yeah she slapped me because I ripped her dress as well." She laughs, at least I made her feel better.

She hugs me, "You're a great friend you know that right?" She says. "Thanks."

When she pulls herself from me she has tears in her eyes. I thought I made her feel better. "I want to leave the Selection." She says. "What? Why?" How could she do this to me, she is my closest friend here besides Kiara.

"I don't have feelings for the Prince, and he has eyes only for you. I like someone back home. We have always been close friends but my feelings grew. Tomorrow I'm going to tell the Prince."

"There's no talking you out of this is there?" I ask. She shakes her head as a 'no'.

"Win the Selection for me.'' She says through a smile. "I don't think I can but I will try."

I stand up and hold out my hand. "Come on, let's continue your birthday." Her smile grows wider and together we run down the stairs and make a grand entrance to the party.
