A/N okay I'm back on schedule and I think I'm going to make author's notes bold now so it's not confusing. Okay. Continue reading:)-Piper
Two weeks.
He'd been in a coma for two freaking weeks.
And it was annoying as heck.
I mean, he literally was in a coma because I made him mad. He might be mad at me in his coma. Can you think in a coma? I don't know, I've never been in a coma. I have researched, though. Most websites say that comas people wake up from last from a few hours to a month or so. Most ones longer than that people die, so let's hope he'll wake up soon. Oh gosh, I really hoped he would wake up soon.
I was spending less time in the hospital lately, only a couple hours after school now. I mean, before I had a reason, but now it was just life. Go to school, go see Ryan, come home, and go to bed. Repeat. Nothing interesting really happened, until today.
I was walking through the halls at school, people were whispering around me like usual saying things like, "She's the one who has the friend in a coma" and, "She's such a mope, I mean, he'll wake up soon" and even better, "I hear her friend died." Yep, it was pretty great. Of course I was still uncomfortable with it, people weren't seeing me grouped in with others, I was like a sore thumb everyone was judging and paying attention to. It was like answering a question in class all day long. So basically torture.
I walked into the cafeteria, and there was a person standing in the front with a microphone. The lunch ladies were saying to get your lunch quickly and sit down. So, I followed their commands and sat down at a table in the back, on,h to realize the speaker looked extremely familiar. It looked like Ryan's Doctor. That's when I knew this was going to be no good.
"Attention, students," the doctor said, tapping the microphone a few times to get everyone to look at him, and he was successful, "Thank you. I'd like to inform you all on safety, kindness, and leadership. As you may have heard, one of your fellow students was hit by a car and put into a coma." A few people gasped, but it just made my stomach drop. Of course he was talking about Ryan. "Now he should be all right, but this is a lesson to all of you. Be careful walking across the crosswalks and be careful when you all eventually learn how to drive. Now, the main reason of my coming. A certain friend of his has been extremely kind and helpful in this whole endeavor. She has been by his side, spending hours in the hospital. I would like to call her up here. Felicia?"
Everybody stared straight at me. I didn't move a muscle. "Felicia? I see you," the doctor called out, looking at me like the rest of the students.
Soon they began chanting. It started out quite, but it grew slowly louder. "Felicia, Felicia, Felicia, Felicia," they were eventually screaming out there lungs. I couldn't sit there anymore, it would probably be more embarrassing than going up and saying something.
Slowly standing, I made my way to the front of the cafeteria. When I got to the doctor he handed me the microphone and a hush fell over the crowd. "Uh, hi," my voice wavered into the microphone. My whole body was shaking with fear. All of them. Staring straight at me. Me. Front of the stage, talking to hundreds of people. Hundreds of people. People. "Um, Ryan is um, my best friend, and uh, I thought maybe if I stayed with him through the coma then maybe, uh, he could hear me talk to him, and uh, that maybe, uh, maybe it would make him smile deep inside to make him wake up soon so that he knows I miss him and I want him to live." I turned and ran from the stage, face bright red and body shaking, to my seat. And everybody was applauding. My heart was beating hard. But I had done it. I had talked to the whole lunch period. And survived without throwing up. I needed to tell Ryan.
After school that day I sprinted to the hospital. I quickly hopped into the elevator and rode up to his floor. I ran down the hall until I skidded into his room. Still asleep with a steady heartbeat. "Ryan," I breathed, "I, I stood in front of the lunch period and talked about how I had been hanging out with you and people clapped and I didn't throw up or faint and I just thought maybe you should know." His heart beated slightly faster for a moment.
