Chapter 1
(A/n: This is a story I started about a year or two ago. It's been edited a bit, but still has all the details that younger me included.)
It was a terrifying day for Caroline Rogers. As the brown curly haired girl walked to a new school for her first day of high school, thoughts flooded her mind. 'Will I have any friends? What if everyone hates me?' Her thoughts were interrupted as a boy bumped into her. He had black hair and steel grey eyes. He was wearing a red leather jacket with two stripes of black on his sleeves.
"Oh! Sorry I bumped into y- Wait! Are you new here?" The boy asked.
"Yeah." Caroline said shyly.
"Well, my name's Peter. Peter Stark." He waited. Silence. "And yours is?"
"Caroline."
"Well, Caroline. Today's your lucky day! I'm gonna help you find your class." Peter said as they walked through the front doors of the school.
"Hey Peter!" a group of boys called out from the left.
"Hey Peter!" a group of girls giggled.
"And who might this be?" A boy said as he ran to catch up with them.
"Hey Lance. This is Caroline. She's the new girl. I thought I'd help her find her class." Peter replied.
"Speaking of which, I probably should be getting to my class. Well, see you later." Lance replied as he walked away.
"So, what class do you have first?" Peter asked Caroline.
"Science!" Caroline's face lit up as she looked at her schedule and saw one of her favorite subjects.
"Cool. Me too." Peter said as he opened the door to their first class.
Caroline's Point of View
When Peter and I entered the classroom, he sat down in the very back. I wasn't sure where I wanted to sit, so I sat in a seat beside him. I glanced over at Peter and saw him rolling his eyes with his arms crossed in his red leather jacket. He obviously didn't like school. I loved school. Well...except math, but this was the first day so hopefully we would do something easy, or at least fun.
"Hello students!" the teacher said, "Today we will be playing a game!"
"Ooh! Is it 'Silent Ball' like we did last year?" a student yelled out.
"No. Not this time." she replied as she started handing out papers. "I am handing out a paper. On that paper are several boxes. in each of those boxes it says something to do, such as 'Find someone who has freckles'. Whoever can finish this the fastest wins."
Once she finished handing out the papers, she counted down from five to one, and the whole class started running around. I just stood there in consternation. Suddenly I felt a hand grab my arm. My head whipped around, and I breathed a sigh of relief as I saw that it was Peter.
"Come over here." he yelled as he pulled me from the crowd of students. "Let's see which ones we can do together." he continued, "You don't have freckles....Do you have a hermit crab?"
"I did have one...he passed away though..." I answered him.
"I'll count that. You can write your name on that one too." he said. I scrawled my name under the writing in the block.
"Write 'Sydney' on that one," he instructed me, pointing to the next block. "And 'Hosea' on that one." He said, pointing to another block on the paper.
In a few minutes, we were done! No one else in the class had ever owned a hermit crab, except me, and no one besides Peter talked to me, so we were the only ones to even finish the assignment. The teacher gave us a chocolate bar to split. She only had one because she thought that only one person would win. We both smiled widely as we ate our chocolate.
