Preference 38

Steve: Unlocking the door to your apartment you strolled in with smile on your face. Steve should be home tonight, and boy oh boy you were ready for some cuddling!
"Steve, I'm home" you called, hanging your keys on the hook and shedding your coat. No answer. "Steve?"
His keys were hung on the wall right next to yours. Where is he?
You decided that he either locked his keys in the apartment or was sleeping. Neither of which would be surprising.
You removed your shoes and your blouse, tossing the top into the hamper that was currently sitting in the living room.
Now in just your slacks and undershirt, you moved through the apartment with the intention of going to the bathroom to take a quick shower. You opened the bathroom door, to find Steve.
His face fixed in a stern and intense glare. His back arched, and his hands gripping the counter. He didn't even flinch when you opened the door, he just stared at himself in the mirror.
"Steve?" Your voice came out softly.
"It's my fault (y/n)," he said.
"What's your fault? Nothing's your fault, honey" you reached out to place a hand on his shoulder. Suddenly his head snapped around to look at you.
"You don't understand, it's my fault. It's all my fault," he shouted, tears brimming his eyes.
The initial raised voice made you want to shrink back, but the context forced you to stand taller.
"Steve, tell me what's going on," you said in a steady voice.
Without warning he collapsed into tears right there on the bathroom floor.
You sank down to your knees, and scooted closer to him.
In between sobs he managed to get out. "They're gonna kill him (y/n). They're gonna kill him and it's all my fault"
Now you were really concerned. Steve doesn't act this way, and he certainly would never be to blame for someone's death.
"Who are they going to kill, Steve?" You urged gently.
He didn't respond for a moment, he lifted his head and met my gaze
"Bucky"
Your hands found his cheeks, followed by your lips.
"They're not going to kill him," you whispered. "We're going to save him, remember?" But your words were lost on him.
"No. I lost him once, I can't do it again. Not again (y/n)" he slumped forward into your waiting arms.
"Baby, you're not going to lose him. We're gonna find him, and bring him home with us. We're gonna take care of him, and show the world that there is nothing to be afraid of,"
Steve nodded numbly as you began rocking him in your arms. You kissed the top of his head, and whispered "It was never your fault,"

Natasha: Your hands are laced together as you walk down the paved walkway. It's utterly freezing in New York, and snow is just beginning to drift down from the low hanging clouds above. The park is almost empty except for a few stragglers. Suddenly, Natasha's fingers grip yours in a way that bordered on pain.
"Tasha?" Your voice rang out just above a whisper. She had been even less talkative than usual tonight.
Her grip tightened, definitely causing some pain now. You turned to face off with her. You reached out to clasp her other hand.
She locked onto your gaze, and began trembling.
She let out a frosty puff of air, and whispered "It's so cold, (y/n)"
You nodded, guiding her hand to your waist and leaving it there to rest. The same hand moved up to cradle her cheek.
"Then let's go home. It's not cold at home"
She nodded, and numbly followed you out of the park and into a taxi.
The next thing she was aware of, was you pulling up a pair of soft, clean, and warm pajama bottoms over fresh underwear.
The tables have turned, you were taking care of her.
You pulled up the covers and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead before going to change clothes yourself.
Natasha watched you numbly, and wondered why you had ever said yes to marrying her.
You climbed into bed with her, and immediately she moved to snuggle into you.
"What did you see?" You asked her gently.
"A little girl," she whispered.
"Mhm," you encouraged her to continue
"I saw a little girl, sitting alone in an alley way," her voice cracked slightly "dirty. Covered in snow. Used matches littered around her feet,"
You wanted to cry, that sounded awful. But you bit your lip and made a sound of affirmation.
"I was that child, all those years ago. In Russia. Lost and alone. Hungry, and cold. Oh...." She paused "so so cold"
"Are you cold now?" You asked, stroking her hair.
She didn't say anything for a long time. But she let out the word "no" in a breathy tone after sometime.
"You keep me warm," you whispered. "And I keep you warm,"

Bucky: This happened frequently, waking up in the middle of the night to him sobbing mor thrashing.
But tonight he snapped awake, and yelled "I can't stay here anymore,"
You say up, "Baby, lie down," you said groggily.
"No," he growled through gritted teeth.
"Can't... Breathe,"
You jumped up out of the bed, and faced him.
"Now you listen to me," you said very calmly. "You're safe here. I am safe here. You need to sit down,"
He didn't say anything, but his breathing did not change.
You began counting back from 100, in a breathy voice. At 32 he joined you. He approached you slowly, and followed your backwards movement on to the bed.
You laid back onto the pillows, and allowed him to drape his body over yours, resting his head on your breasts.
Your fingers tangled in his hair.
Softly you began to hum, Blue Ocean Floor. And before long he was lightly snoring.

Bruce: Much to the displeasure of his therapist, Bruce insists that you be in the room or at the very least close at hand, when he has his sessions.
You don't disrupt, or do anything really. You just sit quietly and listen.
Bruce wants you there in case something the therapist says or does triggers an panic attack, or makes him angry and he goes green.
It didn't happen for the first few months, but one day in the middle of the summer heat the therapist pushed a little too hard.
You were asked not to observe this session, to wait outside the door.
But inside, Bruce's hands were shaking.
The therapist pressed on, taking no notice of the signs to stop.
It didn't take long for him to lose it, and you heard an unmistakable growl come from inside the room.
Calmly you stood up, and walked into the room, locking the door behind you.
He was standing up, the therapist shrank back in her chair. His neck was beginning to turn green.
"(Y/n)," he growled. "Get out,"
"Doctor Joan, why don't you quickly and calmly evacuate the building,"
The therapist sprinted out of the room.
You sat down on the chair he had previously been sitting on. He turned around to face you.
"(Y/n)...you need to leave," he growled.
You only gave him a sympathetic look, and said in a very calm voice.
"No it's okay, I'm perfectly safe sitting here,"
He shook his head, "no." He mumbled. "Get out. GET OUT!"
To say you were not afraid would be a lie, but you did not budge.
"Bruce, I am not going to leave. And you are not going to turn,"
He did not respond beyond heavily breathing and glaring.
Your arm stretched out towards him, and you made a very movement in your fingers beaconing him to come closer.
He obeyed, moving in a vaguely animalistic way towards you. You placed your hand on his cheek, he was staring to get his natural coloring back.
"Bruce," you whispered.
"What color are my eyes?"
"(E/c)," he responded
"What color is my hair?"
"(H/c)" he said, lowering himself into a sitting position in front of you.
"What my name?"
"(Y/f/n)" His breathing evened out, and his green coloring had faded, but you continued the set.
"What do you call me when we're are alone?"
"Angel,"
"Do you love me?" You asked
"Yes," he said more confidently
"Good. Then can I have a kiss?" You asked smiling sweetly, stroking this hands with the pads of your thumbs.
"Yes," he stood up, and leaned over you to press a kiss to your waiting lips.

Pietro: Initially after he had been brought back from death, he was fine. In fact he was energetic, and inspired.
But it's been a couple months, and the reality of his situation had finally begun to settle in.
The nightmares hadn't started, until that night.
He fell asleep spooning you. Holding you flush against his bare chest.
But in the night, his grip tightened, and his breathing became labored.
He cried out in his sleep. Waking you in the process.
"Pietro," you shook him. "Pietro, wake up,"
He screamed out loud, and bolted up right. He mumbled things in Russian, that you didn't understand.
You pulled him towards you, cupping his face in your hands.
"Pietro," you whispered, "It was just a dream,"
He nodded and mumbled something about dreams.
This continued for months. Sometimes he shook violently, and screamed. Other times he would wake up in a cold sweat, panicked and anxious. But every time, you were there for him. Ready with open arms and open heart.
