Chapter 16:....
You sat on the bed with your head in your hands. The collar and gauntlets were thrown randomly on the table as you sat in your own misery. You failed. You let your mom down again.
You allowed yourself to fall back on the bed as the storm outside contiued. Your jacket and boots were scattered on the floor. Your hair was a mess. You felt sick.
You curled up in the bed and decided that you deserved to be here. The world would be better if you just stayed here and rotted away.
This was the price of your sins.
You slowly closed your eyes.
Y/N: I'm sorry, mom. I'm just not ready to be a hero. I let you down.
JARVIS: Master Y/N, are you alright?
Y/N: Go away, JARVIS. I don't want to talk.
JARVIS: Ms. Kahn is currently in the interrogation room reviewing the footage.
Y/N: I didn't ask.
JARVIS: Your gear has been offline and none of your appliances have been activated since you entered your room.
Y/N: JARVIS, I'm serious.
Mom: Hello, Y/N.
Your eyes shot open at your mother's voice. You sat up and saw your mother standing there. She glitch which told you that it wasn't even her.
Y/N: JARVIS, the hell is this?
JARVIS: A file Ms. L/N left behind in the case of her death. There was one for you and one for Hailey.
You stared at your mom's hologram for a moment before you stood up.
Y/N: Play it.
Mom: Hello, Y/N. If you're seeing this than, I have passed.
It was so bizarre to hear her voice so clearly for the first time in five years. She was wearing that grey sweater she loved so much. The one that always smelt like her perfume.
Mom: I know you must be upset, maybe even angry, right now. I understand that but, I just ask that you calm down a bit and listen. I have some things I need to tell you.
You watched as she reached for something and held it up. It was the case you had found all the gear in.
Mom: I guess, I should tell you that these are for you. I had crafted them with a help of a young boy named Peter who I'm currently, at the time of recording this, training. These are made for you. I always figured that you would pick up the mantle.
She smiled as she set the case down.
Mom: Me and your dad thought the same thing. That you would be the one to be the hero after we were gone. That's because, it's who you are.
You shook your head.
Y/N: No, I'm not.
Mom: You're so smart. So brave. You always protected your sister and you were as sharp as a blade. If anyone could ever be Leviathan after me, it's you. That's probably why you're on the Chimera right now. Or, wherever you are right now. Heh. Tony is always making a bunch of random things. Me and Peter actually took some of this tech from his lab. Don't tell him about it.
You didn't know this was Stark tech. Guess that's why it was so easy to connect to your eye.
Mom: At this time, me and Steve are engaged but I guess, or hope, that we're already married when you see this. You might not understand it but, me and your uncle Steve have this, bond. We have been through so much and we grew close and...well...you'll understand once you meet that special someone. I hope I get to meet them.
Wait...what? Engaged? The hell?
Y/N: Uh, one sec...
Mom: When you meet that person, you may be confused on your feelings. Maybe even a bit scared. I also know that you would be super awkward since you're just like your father. A huge dork. Don't worry, though. Girls like that kind of stuff.
Y/N: Oh my God.
Mom: But, you can't be afraid to take that leap. I guess, that brings me into what I really wanted to say. I've been beating around the bush cause, like I said, I'm dead if you're watching this. So, I guess I'll just say it.
She took a deep breath and looked at you. Directly at you.
Mom: Y/N, my sweet boy, you need to understand something. The Avengers are a family first and foremost. We have our issues and we argue all the time. But, at the end of the day, they will do what's right. At the end of the day, they will be there for the world. You won't ever need to worry about that. But what I need to say is for you to hear. And I really hope you take this to heart.
You looked at your mother.
Mom: You're not who you are because of what happens to you. You see, what happens isn't what makes you who you are. It's what you do about it that defines you. You can sit and wallow in self doubt and pity, or you can rise up and tackle the world before you. I'm not a hero because I have super powers or a fancy suit. I'm a hero because I know that I need to do the right thing. I know that you know that too. You're too damn smart not to.
You lowered your head and dropped to your knees in defeat.
Y/N: No, I don't. I'm not a hero. I can't be like you. I...I failed. I failed you again. I fucked up so badly.
Mom: Y/N, I'm so proud of you.
Your eyes widen and you looked back up to your mother.
Mom: I don't know what kind of man you are right now, but I know that it would be one that I would be proud of. You probably did something stupid, but brave. I just want you to know, I love you so much, my sweet boy. And that I'm proud.
She was, proud? Something stupid...but brave. Like saving a girl and tracking down the Avengers. The same girl that you found yourself growing closer to.
That special someone.
Y/N: Heh. You always knew what to say. How the hell did you pull this one off?
Mom: Well, I guess that's all I got. Just, keep your head up. I know you can do it, Leviathan. Oh, and I left you a little present in the crate.
The message ended and you were once again left in the dark. You slowly lowered your head and stood back up. You looked over at your jacket and saw how torn it was. You sighed and walked over to the crate you had brought to your room after you had moved in. You opened it up and looked inside.
You placed your hand on the bottom and found that there was a secret compartment. You removed the panel and looked inside. You grinned as you pulled out the new suit.
Your mom was right. You needed to keep your head high. And you needed to find your family.
---------
You opened the door to the interrogation room where you found Kamala quietly sobbing to herself. JARVIS said she was on the phone with her father. Still, she was hurting and it was partly your fault.
Y/N: You find anything?
Kamala stopped and turned to you. There were tears in her eyes.
Y/N: Look, before you say anything, I'm...
Kamala shut you up by hugging you tightly. You froze up for a moment before you hugged her back, even tighter.
Y/N: I'm so sorry. I let you down but, I'm ready to fight again.
You pulled Kamala off of you and held her in place as you looked down at her.
Y/N: Avenger or not, I'm a hero who needs to do what's right. Even if that means I have to keep fighting.
Kamala: Y/N, I-I can't find the lab. I can't find any clues or any...anything.
Y/N: That's fine. We'll look. Together. Alright? And when we do, we'll take it down. Even if we have to go to the ends of this earth to do so.
Kamala smiled before realization hit her. She pulled away from you and grabbed the tablet that was resting on the table. She then replayed a part of the interview.
Monica: Scour the earth, you will not find our lab.
She replayed it again and again.
Kamala: "Scour the earth". That's it! Of course! The satellite!
Y/N: The, what?
Kamala stood back up and turned to you.
Kamala: We need to put out a call to everyone. I know where the lab is!
Y/N: You do?
Kamala: Yes. It's not on earth. It's in space.
Ah, okay?
Kamala stopped freaking out when she looked at you again. She looked at you from head to toe and realized you were wearing new armor.
Kamala: Uh, where did you get that?
You just smiled.
Y/N: My mom.
-----------
You and Kamala were now at the War Table where you fixed the communications. Kamala smiled when you gave her the thumbs up.
Kamala: Avengers, if you can hear me....I think I found a clue.
There was static on the line meaning no one was picking up. Kamala frowned before she hot the button again.
Kamala: Look, I know I messed up. I wanted to blame AIM for A-Day so badly that it blinded me. But Cap and Leviathan had to have had a good reason to do what they did. I know it.
There was more static. Kamala looked down so you stepped in and clicked the button.
Y/N: People believe in the Avengers. Not because we look good cause, believe me, we look amazing. But, it's because no matter how bad things get, no matter how much you all disagree, you came together.
Kamala: Don't you get it? Your differences is your greatest superpower.
Kamala sighed.
Kamala: I was just some kid from Jersey who never fit in. But you saw me for who I was. You accepted me.
Y/N: And I was some pissed off kid who was mad at the world. Someone who was trying to find someone to blame.
You looked at Kamala and smiled. Slowly, you reached out and held her hand.
Y/N: But, I know that there's still a bad guy out there who wants to hurt the world. But, we can stop him. Together.
Kamala nodded.
Kamala: Good isn't a thing you are. It's a thing you do.
Y/N: What happens isn't what defines you. It what you do about it that does.
You and Kamala looked at each other. No one answered, but that was fine. You had Kamala and now Kamala had you. You had each other.
Y/N: Kamala.
Kamala: Y/N.
Hulk: Hulk.
You and Kamala flinched at the giant's voice. You both turned to find him standing there, soaking wet. He began to transform back and dropped behind the table. You and Kamala raced to the other side where Bruce was already pulling his jacket on.
You and Kamala stood there as Bruce calmed down. He slowly looked up at the two of you and sighed.
Bruce: I'm sorry....I shouldn't have said that.
Kamala let go of your hand and kneeled down and looked at Bruce.
Kamala: Hm...I get if.
Another sound was heard and you looked up to see Tony fly in through the window. His helmet deactivated and he walked over to the three of you. He sniffed, and wiped his eye.
Tony: High altitude. Dry eyes.
He looked at Bruce and sighed.
Tony: Look, I'm not very good at....I'm sorry. So....
Bruce: Same.
Tony: Good enough. So, uh, you two found a clue?
He turned to you and Kamala. Kamala smiled and walked towards the War Table.
Kamala: Yeah. It's in the interview.
Tony and Bruce watched her before they noticed your new uniform.
Y/N: Good to have the two of you back.
Tony: Yeah. Nice suit.
You smiled and walked over to the Table with them.
Kamala: Listen.
Monica: Scour the earth. You will not find our lab.
Bruce: Okay?
The two men looked at her confused. You rolled your eyes. They were two of the brightest minds.
Y/N: It's not on earth.
Tony: I'm not following.
Y/N: You're joking.
Kamala: When I was captured, Monica and Tarleton had an argument. Tarleton had to leave the room. Monica pulled up coordinates for a satellite called "Ambrosia".
Tony: "Ambrosia"? That was...
Y/N: And ex-SHIELD bio-medical project. AIM got it in the takeover.
Kamala: It would be a great place to hide proof of Inhuman experiments, right?
Bruce and Tony thought about it.
Bruce: If you wanted to study Inhumans at cellular level then...
Tony: Zero gravity would be a perfect place to do it.
Tony smiled as he looked at you and Kamala.
Tony: Good job.
Kamala smiled brightly as you nodded.
Tony: Okay, we know where we need to go, but we need a way to get there.
Y/N: Oh! Spaceship.
Tony: Close, but no.
JARVIS: Project Starboost, sir? As I recall, you terminated the project since you couldn't find a way to generate enough acceleration in the thrusters.
Tony: Yeah, no need to bore eveeyone with the details, JARVIS.
You snapped your fingers when you suddenly got an idea.
Y/N: JARVIS, call Dr. Pym.
JARVIS did so and Pym's picture suddenly showed up. He looked confused.
Pym: Please tell me this is a social call.
Y/N: Not a chance, bitch. We need your Pym particles for something important.
Pym and everyone looked at you shocked.
Y/N: Well? You got them or not?
Pym: Uh....no. I don't. AIM took them....
Y/N: Okay then. Where are they?
Pym: Uh, ever heard of the Meridian?
Y/N: Educate me.
Pym: It's an AIM base and....you know what? I'll just send you the coordinates.
Widow: Good. We can get the details on our way there.
You all looked at the second call coming in.
Kamala: Widow?
Natasha: I gotta say, you kids give one hell of a speech when you're pissed at us. And I gotta say, Y/N, love the new confidence.
Bruce: Look, Nat, we were idiots and...
Natasha: As much as I love your squirming, it looks like we have work to do. I can get us into the Meridian.
Tony: Us?
Natasha: We're in this together, right?
You smiled as you looked at everyone.
Y/N: Alright then. Let's get to it. After that, we can yell at each other.
Bruce: You...you forgive us?
Y/N: Fuck no. You're all idiots but we'll work on that. It's who we are, after all.
Tony and Bruce smiled.
Bruce: What? Avengers?
You looked at Kamala and smiled widely.
Y/N: Yeah.
Chapter 16: Family.
Y/N: Something like that.
