Chapter 13: Leviathan
You sat in your room on board the Chimera in silence. Your eye was taken care if, but it was no good anymore. No matter what anyone did now, you'd be blind in your left eye. That being said, you had a white bandage wrapped around most of that side of your head. The cut was deep so they had to cover that too. Your arm was also bandaged by Bruce.
It was odd to have 3 of the Avengers on board now. You managed to drop the Inhuman prisoners off at the Ant Hill and now the Chimera was just hovering over it. SHIELD also returned on the base meaning there was a lot more people around.
You still had no idea how to feel about that.
Anyway, your eye was feeling a bit better but you were still a ways away from healing from it. You weren't defenseless, but you were vulnerable for the time being. Since you had some down time, you had decided to start upgrading the ax to be something more than it already was.
There wasn't any music playing as you worked on adding some tech to the weapon. You lifted your head when you heard a quiet knock on your door.
Y/N: One sec.
You stood up and headed towards the door. You opened it and found Kamala standing there looking embarrassed.
Y/N: Hey. How are holding up?
Kamala looked at you but quickly looked away. It wouldn't be noticeable if you weren't already use to it.
Kamala: I should be asking you that. Are you alright?
You shrugged as you leaned on the doorframe.
Y/N: Been better. Guess this just a way to get my punishment for all the times I stole cookies from Thor.
You smirked at your joke but Kamala didn't find it as humorous. Your smirk vanished just as a SHIELD worker walked by.
Worker: Whoops, excuse me.
Kamala moved a bit to the side as the worker made his way through. You looked around at the new personal and sighed.
Y/N: Uh, wanna talk inside? Less foot traffic.
Kamala slowly nodded and you stepped aside to let her in. She shuffled past you and you looked back out into the hall. Natasha stood across the way with her arms crossed and a knowing smirk on her lips. The door slid close and you stood there for a moment.
Y/N: She really is everywhere.
You turned around and saw Kamala looking around. She touched one of the bobbleheads, Hank's, which caused it to shake slightly. She then turned back to you but still refused to look at you in the eyes....eye. Shit. That was going to be weird.
Y/N: So, uh, wanna talk about something?
Kamala nodded as she sat on the edge of your bed. You looked at the chair at the desk but realized it would be weird if you just asked her to sit somewhere else. You opted to lean against the wall and crossed your arms.
Kamala: I just....I apologized to everyone. About going off on my own. I wasn't ready like you said. And I...you got hurt because of me. I messed up and I just wanted to say I'm sorry. I get if you don't want to....
Y/N: Kamala, you're fine. Everyone was just worried.
Kamala looked up at you but she saw your eye again. She slowly looked down which made you sigh. Of course she still blames herself over everything.
Y/N: Honestly, I'm just glad you're alright. That's what matters.
Kamala shook her head.
Kamala: No. It's not. You would be okay if I had just listened to you. I betrayed you and the others.
You looked at her for a moment. You pushed off the wall and walked over to her. You placed a hand on her head and rubbed it for a bit. When she looked up, you were smiling.
Y/N: Honestly, if anything, I should be thanking you.
Kamala: Thanking me? F-For what?
You shrugged.
Y/N: You're kinda reunited me with my family. In a weird way. I haven't talked to them since I was 12 so, thanks.
Kamala looked at you for a moment. She just caught that.
Kamala: Wait, are you...17?
You nodded. Actually, now that you thought about it, you didn't know how old she was.
Y/N: How old are you?
Kamala: I'm 16. I'm a junior in highschool right now.
Y/N: Oh. So, you're a grade under me. Hm. I, uh, didn't know that.
You sat next to Kamala in the bed and smiled a bit.
Y/N: I actually don't know much about you. Like I don't know your favorite color or anything like that. I only know a bit here and there.
Kamala nodded as well.
Kamala: The same goes for me. I only know a bit about you. Um, is it cool if we talk, for a bit?
Y/N: Always. So, what do you want to know?
Kamala gave it some thought before she decided on her question.
Kamala: What was your childhood like? I want to know about your family. I, I wanna know about everything about you.
You nodded and laughed a bit.
Y/N: Alright. Well, uh, I guess I should start at the beginning, huh? Well, my mom was Leviathan. You know that. But my dad...he was a SHIELD soldier. Knew Fury personally. He was around until I was four and he, uh, he passed away. So I hardly knew him.
Kamala: I'm so sorry.
You just shook your head.
Y/N: I don't remember him all that much. Anyway, my mom did everything she could to make sure me and my sister were raised right. Even when she joined the Avengers back when Fury first founded them, she made sure we had what we needed. I guess that's why I always felt like I let her down. She was a hero to a lot of people but, she was always my hero. In and out of costume.
Kamala placed a hand on yours and shook her head.
Kamala: There's no way you let her down, Y/N. Not a chance. I mean, look at everything you've done in the last week. You're a hero.
You looked at her for a moment and you realized just how close the two of you were on the bed. So close, that you saw the small scar on her cheek. You never noticed it before.
Kamala: I know that, you're definitely my hero. You've done so much for me. You're still here.
She slowly looked down in disappointment.
Kamala: Even after everything that's happened.
She lowered her head.
Kamala: You know, my abu was always there for me too. Now, he's probably worried out of his mind about me. I guess that's really my super power.
You gently squeezed her hand as tears began to form in her eyes. Slowly, you wrapped your arms around her as she began to cry. You held her for a moment before you closed your eyes.
Y/N: I'll always be here, Kamala. Always.
-------------
It was about two hours later when you opened your eye again. Seems those pain pills Hank gave you really did work. You were knocked the hell out and you had to say, best nap ever.
That was until you realized there was another face literally mere centimeters away from yours. Kamala was still sound asleep in your grasp with her breath brushing against your cheek.
Your eye grew wide and you felt your cheeks heat up when you realized the position you were in. She had her head on your left arm and you right was draped over her waist. You were, cuddling with her.
Y/N: Aye. Nice going, champ.
You quickly calculated a way to slip out of the bed without waking her up and did so. First, you slid your right arm away from her waist. Easy. But, what about you left arm? You pushed it down into the crack between the pillow and the headframe before you slid it out of place. Bingo.
Okay, next was to get out of her grasp. Sacrifice throw it is. You counted to three in your head and simply, rolled backwards off the bed. You caught yourself before you could hot the floor.
Mission accomplished.
You got back to your feet and looked down at Kamala for a moment. She looked so peaceful. Though, her eyes were still a bit puffy due to her crying. Still, she looked.....cute.
Y/N: So you're not even denying it anymore?
Y/N: Shut up, me.
You shook your head and tuned back to the sleeping girl. You figured she would be exhausted after going nonstop for a week like this.
You reached out and brushed some of her hair out of her face as she unconsciously smiled.
Kamala: Y/N...
Your eye went wide again at your name. Was she, dreaming about you? You found yourself brushing her hair with your fingers as you looked at her.
You couldn't deny it anymore. She was a very attractive girl who you had spent a lot of time with in the recent days. You've been through quite a bit and had similar problems. Of course you would....feel this way about her.
You slowly leaned down towards her and your eyes landed on her lips. They looked so soft right now. They were parted slightly. Almost like an invitation.
You were tempted, no doubt about it. But, you couldn't kiss her when she was asleep like this. It wouldn't be right. It would be unfair to her and you had no idea if it would even be her first kiss. You weren't even going to chance it, no matter how appealing it may seem.
So you leaned in and kissed her cheek instead. You stood back up and looked away with red cheeks. You finally did it. You somewhat kissed her. Hoorah.
Y/N: God, I'm such a dork.
You shook your head and pulled the blanket over her so that she would stay warm. You then left the room to find the Chimera oddly quiet for the time. You decided to head to the lab and try to find some more things to fix up the ax.
When you reached the lab, you found Bruce and Tony talking about new upgrades to one of the Iron Man suits which you honestly couldn't care for at the moment.
Y/N: Hey.
The two men turned around and spotted you. Tony winced at seeing your eye while Bruce at least tried to pretend that nothing was wrong.
Bruce: Hey, Y/N. How are you doing?
Y/N: Seen better days.
Tony: Oh. Please tell me that was a pun.
You nodded. Tony then smirked.
Tony: Great. Cause that was funny. So, uh, what do you need?
Y/N: Well, I've been working on the ax to try and make it something more, uh, heroic? Like I've been adding some new designs to it and I crafted this magnetic thing so that it would return to me when I threw it.
Bruce and Tony seemed honestly amazed at you. You really did get your mother's creativity. And apparently you had a great mind of your own.
Tony: Uh huh. And what do you need from us?
Y/N: Well, if you had any more old tech laying around, I'll like to use it to further upgrade my gear. Anything will do.
Tony gave it some thought and snapped his finger. He walked upstairs to the second level where you heard him look around for something.
Bruce: Hey.
You turned back to Bruce who was standing there with his arms crossed.
Bruce: You really okay?
You shrugged and placed a hand over your injured eye.
Y/N: Like I said, I've been better. Kamala still blames herself over all this but, we talked and I think she's alright now.
Bruce: Yeah, about her, where is she? I tried looking for her earlier but Natasha just said she was busy.
Oh.
Y/N: Well, uh....she's....asleep.
Bruce: Really? Maybe that's why she didn't answer.
Thank God one of the brightest minds of your time was oblivious. Before he could ask anything else, Tony returned with a cardboard box of junk he had saved throughout the years. He set it on the table and presented it to you.
Tony: Take your pick. I can't use it on my newer models anyway.
You nodded as a thanks and began to dig through the box. As you did, your mind began to place the pieces together as you though of possible upgrades and add one. A few new gadgets as well.
Suddenly, you spotted something that made you stop. You reached into the box and pulled out a small metal ball.
Tony: Ah, I tried to make a computer system into a small convenient device. Turns out, balls don't fit in computers. Still got it to work a bit.
You looked it over and suddenly had an idea. You set it down on the table and dug through the box again. You grabbed some more parts and turned back to Bruce and Tony.
Y/N: So, I have a huge favor to ask.
-----------
Kamala slowly opened her eyes with a groan to a dark room. A surprisingly warm, dark room. But it wasn't her room.
She sat up and looked around the room before she realized it was now night. She was asleep for about four hours now. Her eyes drifted over to the self of mini figurines when it hit her.
This was your room. She was laying in your bed.
Her cheeks heated up when she reminded what she was doing in here. She wanted to talk to you and you had a moment with each other. She then squealed in embarrassment when she reminded you both fell asleep holding each other.
Kamala: Aye. Look at you go, champ.
Kamala: No!
She shook her head and quickly hopped out of the bed. She quickly gathered herself and let out a breath. Keep it cool, Kamala. You got this.
Kamala: Right. I just need to get to my room without anyone seeing me so that they don't something happened.
She nodded to herself and headed to the door. However, when it opened, Natasha happened to be walking by. The two girls stopped and looked at each other. Kamala also became aware of her appearance. Bedhead, disheveled clothes, and puffy eye.
Natasha: Soooooo....you guys have fun?
Kamala found her mind in a blank state as she stood there. Error, error. Turn off and reset.
Kamala: Uh....nothing happened.
Natasha: Uh huh. Is that why you look like a college girl doing the walk of shame right now?
Kamala:.......I swear.
Great. Now her voice was squeaking. Luckily, surpiseingly, Tony saved her.
Tony: Aye! There's the kid I was looking for. See you woke up from your nap.
Kamala: How did you...
Tony: JARVIS told me when I tried to look for you. Anyway, we have something we want you two to see.
Natasha: Both of us?
Tony: Yeah. C'mon. Pitter patter, let's get at her.
The women shared a look and followed Tony back to the science lab. When they entered, they saw you talking to Bruce with your back to them. Kamala found herself growing red again just by thinking about what happened. However, she noticed something else.
Kamala: Where's you, bandages?
You heard her voice and immediately turned around. Kamala and Natasha were surpised by what they saw. Your injuries eye was no more. Instead, you had a new one which was S/E/C (second eye color) and it seemed to glow a bit. The cut was still there but you had your vision back.
Kamala: What is that?
You raised a hand to your eye and smiled.
Y/N: I actually made this with Tony and Bruce. We replaced the old eye with this one. I can see and I connected the small chip in it to the AI in my helmet too so I can see the hud.
Kamala walked over to you and you lowered your hand. Kamala slowly placed two of her fingers on the cut gently and looked into the eye.
You could see her perfectly with the hud. Along with many things, it also displayed your heartbeat, which was now rising as Kamala got closer.
Kamala: That's so cool.
She pulled her hand away and the two of you looked at each other for a moment. Natasha and Tony looked at the two of you while Bruce shook his head.
Bruce: I swear. These two really need to just talk this....whatever this is. Honestly, it's been like this since day one.
Kamala: It looks good.
Y/N: Thanks. Did you sleep well? I didn't want to wake you up.
Kamala: Oh, uh, yeah. Sorry for...that. Thanks for letting me stay.
You just shook your head and smiled.
Y/N: You can nap there whenever you'd like. And, actually, I had been thinking and, I wanted to say something. To all of you.
You turned to everyone and they all looked at you.
Y/N: I know I held a grudge against you guys. I just, couldn't accept what happened on A-Day. But it was more than that.
Natasha: You felt like you failed your mom.
You nodded.
Y/N: Yeah. But, I can see now that I'm doing something, bigger than myself. I can't call myself a hero, but others do. So that's what I'll be. I want to announce my claim to the Leviathan name.
In that moment, everyone smiled. That's right. Even though you couldn't call yourself a hero, you could call yourself Leviathan. And you would do well to honor that name.
Tony: About damn time, kid. I guess we should take on the next mission, then.
You nodded as you stood beside Kamala. Tony lead everyone else out of the room but you stopped Kamala by grabbing her wrist.
Y/N: Hey, can I have a sec, real quick?
Kamala nodded and turned to you.
Y/N: I, uh, I wanted to say thanks. For making me realize that...I'm meant to be Leviathan. That this is where I need to be.
Kamala looked at you oddly.
Kamala: Well, it'll always be your choice. I'm just glad that you're doing better now than you were a week ago.
You smiled at each other. You then did something even you weren't expecting. You leaned down and kissed her cheek which caught her off guard.
Y/N: Thank you.
You nodded and headed out to catch up with the others. Meanwhile, Kamala found herself in a blushing mess.
Kamala: Did he just...kiss me on the cheek?
Indeed you did.
