Chapter 12: Breakout
You landed on the platform next to the AIm soldier who found you at the Ant Hill. You wore your gear and brought the ax as requested. Theo transported you here as well. The soldier began to type on her phone as she walked forward. You followed. You also peeked over her shoulder.
M: Hey, morons. They got the girl. I'll get her but backup would be appreciated.
Y/N: You have Hank's number?
Soldier: Of course. I am Tiny Dancer after all.
Hank sent back a confirmation and the soldier chuckled. She then pulled off her helmet and turned back to you.
Natasha: Hey, kid. Long time no see.
Your eyes grew wide at the sight of your aunt Natasha. She took off the rest of her AIM gear which left her in her. Black Widow uniform.
Y/N: Natasha?
Natasha: Yep. Good to see that you're alive still. You grew up to be quite the handsome boy.
Your cheeks grew a bit red at the compliment.
Y/N: Uh, thanks.
Widow turned back toward the compound and sighed.
Natasha: Why am I even doing this? I don't even like kids. Well, you and Hailey were okay. Nadia too, I guess. Mmm. Crap. I think I actually like kids.
You walked to her side as she fixed her wrist cannons.
Natasha: This maintenence system should lead us to Monica's lab. Odds are good that Kamala is there. Try to keep up.
She rushed forward and leaped across the large gap. She shot out a grapple hook that swung her to the other side. Once she landed, you followed. You both raced your way through the long system as you jumped, ran, and swung.
Your mind was racing with the worst case scenario. Kamala was captured. You knew this would happen and yet it still did. You only blamed yourself at the moment.
Natasha: So, you and Kamala?
Y/N: We're not....why does everyone think we're dating?
Natasha: She's a cute girl. Or, are you and Nadia a thing now? If so, Tony owes me $20.
Y/N: What? No. We don't even talk anymore.
Natasha: What?!
She stopped on one of the platforms and turned toward you.
Natasha: You're joking. You two were best friends.
You just shrugged.
Y/N: Things change. You were best friends with my mom, and yet I haven't heard from you since A-Day. Hailey is doing well, by the way.
Natasha: I know. I've been watching the two of you. Just because you didn't see me, doesn't mean I wasn't there. I just...I couldn't say anything.
You looked at her for a moment before you walked past her. You shot out another line and swung off to the other platform.
Y/N: Keep up. We have to get Kamala.
Widow stood there for a moment before she followed you. You eventually reached a hallway which ended in a massive hole leading down. You and Natasha looked at each other.
Y/N: Ladies first?
Natasha: At least you have manners.
Natasha jumped down and you followed her. You both landed on a catwalk where you found yourself surrounded by a manufacturing plant, for massive robots you haven't seen before.
Natasha: Adaptoids. I've only seen them on paper.
Y/N: Well, there's a lot of them. An army worth.
Widow: Tarleton is making an army. These aren't to me messed with. Let's go.
You nodded and followed Natasha. You both swung past the final gap and headed up into the main building. So far, so good.
Y/N: This is a bit weird. I'm so used to just going in and smashing everything.
Natasha: That's how Bruce and Tony roll. With me, expect more stealth. This will be a good lesrning experience since your mom was like me. We worked a lot of solo missions to get intel. Though, Maria still had a powerful punch.
You knew a bit about that. Your mom would be gone for days on end to sneak into a facility or something. That was also why she couldn't really tell you about some of her missions. You grew up hearing about her being a super hero, not a spy.
You both reached a large door which you hacked into. Once the doors opened, you both stepped through. However, you weren't alone.
Natasha: Damnit.
She suddenly vanished from your view. She must be using her cloaking device. You just shot a grapple into the roof and vanished from sight that way.
Monica was looking over a dead body that had just came from the chamber. An AIM bot pushed the body away as Monica typed on her tablet.
Natasha: That better not be the girl, Monica.
If it was, you were going to seriously do something violent to the doctor. As in, the ax on your back would have to be pulled from her skull by the Hulk. No. You shook the thought from your head. It couldn't be Kamala. The body shape from your angle didn't look right.
But the worst case scenario once again went through your mind.
You jumped down once Monica left the room and you landed next to Widow.
Natasha: We have to get in there.
Y/N: Yeah.
PA System: Prisoner transfer in progress.
Natasha: They're clearing out the building.
Y/N: Then we need to move. Come on.
Natasha nodded and lead the way. You followed her through the halls. You reached a hallway where the walls changed from yellow to a strange orange color.
Natasha: Nice digs. Now I know who's really running the show.
Y/N: Of course it's Monica. Even as a kid, she creeped me out.
Natasha: But years of undercover work and a kid from New Jersey brings me right to the center of AIM activity. Guess the younger generation really is a head of us.
You entered a room where a hologram of the Adaptoid was on display. Widow walked over to the terminal and hacked into it with the codes she had gathered during her time in AIM.
The ground in front of you suddenly began to lower into staircases and a door was revealed. Talk about a super villain base. You and Widow headed down and entered the lab. You looked around at the cases that had parts for the various bots as Natasha headed to another terminal.
Natasha: What were you thinking, kid? You should've stayed put.
Y/N: Yeah, about that, why did you bring me along?
Natasha: Experience. I also wanted to see my favorite nephew since you were Leviathan now.
You shook your head.
Y/N: No, I'm not. I'm not a hero and I'm not really even an Avenger. I'm just, doing what I can to help.
Natasha shook her head and activated Kamala's cell. You walked over to her as the glass prison rose out of the ground. It was empty.
Natasha: Of course. Ok...where are you?
Natasha pulled up more files and looked through them as you watched her. She ended up watching a video of Monica injecting the D.A.R.K gas onto a test subject.
Natasha: D.A.R.K terrigen. None of your cures work, Monica.
She kept watching the video.
Y/N: She provokes their powers. It's what kills them.
The video then panned over to the Adaptoid that was hooked up to the cell next to it. The Adaptoid began to power up much to your surpise.
Natasha: She's not even looking for a cure anymore. The formula keeps the Inhumans alive long enough for the Adaptoids to copy their power.
Your eyes grew wide. Back in the factory, you saw hundreds of these things. So this was what Monica was really doing? Using Inhumans to create an army? This couldn't happen. You couldn't let her get away with this. But, first....
Y/N: We need to find Kamala.
Widow nodded in agreement and the two of you started to head out, just as the alarm went off and the lab went into lock down.
Y/N: God, damnit.
From one of the displays, a new kind of bot leaped out of the glass. It shook its arms as you pulled out your ax and Widow pulled out her guns.
Widow: You're new.
Y/N: Is that, electricity?
The bot charged at you but Widow leaped over it and you ducked under the electrical blade. You slammed your ax into the side of the bot and leaped back when it tried to counter.
Y/N: Widow, think you can distract it?
Natasha: Who do you think I am?
She opened fire on the bot which got it's attention. It began to charge at her, but you leaped up with your string and slammed the ax deep into the bot which stopped it. As it fell to the ground, three more were summoned.
Natasha: Join your friends.
You threw two knives which marked the bots before you rolled under the third. Natasha shot your knife handles which dug the blade deeper into the bots. You made your way over to her and placed your ax back behind your back.
Y/N: Widow, up!
Natasha got the que and ran towards you. You slid on your knees and cupped your hands. Natasha stepped into your hands and you tossed her up. Once she was in the air, she opened fire on the bots which shut them down once and for all.
Natasha: Nice work, kid.
Y/N: Yeah. You to. Come on. Kamala should be in the main cell block.
Natasha nodded and the two of you raced through the hall. You active your helmet's AI and gained access into the main system. You opened the cells as you and Natasha entered the monitoring room where you could see the main cell block.
Y/N: Please be here, Kamala.
Many of the Inhumans left their cells and made a break for it. Good. At least the jailbreak was successful. However, you didn't see Kamala.
Y/N: No.
Before either of you could do anything, more bots appeared behind you. You cracked your neck and turned around with your ax at the ready.
Y/N: More? Fine. We'll go through you to.
You dashed forward and slammed an ax into one of the bots while Natasha pulled our her batons. She leaped into action and helped you defeat the bots. The security systems activated and the turrents popped out of the wall and opened fire.
You dodged a blast and threw a knife up at one which caused it to short fuse and erupt into a blast. Natasha fired back at the other as well. Once they were taken care of, drones flew overhead and began to attack.
Now annoyed, you simply threw your ax at one which knocked it out of the sky. Oh! New idea. Anyway, you leaped out of the way and Widow instead shot down the other. You grabbed your ax and let out a frustrated grunt.
Natasha: Calm down, kid. You can't let yourself get too distracted.
Y/N: I...I know. I'm good.
Natasha stopped you by grabbing your shoulder.
Natasha: Are you sure?
You nodded.
Y/N: I'm good. Promise.
Natasha looked at you for a moment before she smiled.
Natasha: Alright. Let's go.
You nodded and followed her toward the loading bay. You entered the elevator and waited.
Natasha: So, you and this Kamala girl aren't dating.
Y/N: No.
Natasha: But you care for her.
You didn't answer right away. You sighed as your cheeks began to heat up.
Y/N: I...I do.
Natasha: So, you like her?
Y/N: What happened to not getting distracted?!
Natasha laughed at your embarrassment as the door opened. Her laughter stopped when an Adaptoid grabbed her and threw her out of the elevator. You looked at the spot she once stood in amazement.
Y/N: Huh.
The Adaptoid grabbed you as well and threw you out of the elevator as well. You landed in your feet next to Natasha who had her sticks ready.
Y/N: Woah! Big boy.
Natasha: I was hoping I'd meet you.
You held your ax as the Adaptoid's eye began to glow. You and Natasha quickly leaped out of the way as a lazer blasted at the spot you once stood.
Y/N: Okay. Death stare. Guess looks can kill.
You leaped out of your hiding place and charged at the Adaptoid. You slammed your ax into it but it barely made a dent. It swatted you away as Natasha opened fire on it. She fire out her Widow's bite from her wrist which stunned the Adaptoid long enough for you and her to close in on it. You swung your ax harder which managed to break the surface which she threw down a smoke bomb.
You leaped back and realized that you were invisible just like Natasha. However, you couldn't see her either. Bitting the bullet, you charged ahead to the front of the Adaptoid. It looked around for you but soon it couldn't see.
You swung your ax into the eye which caused it to stagger. Then, from behind, Natasha attacked it by slamming her sticks into it's back. The Adaptoid fell and you gave one last hit to the head to make sure it was done for.
Y/N: Holy, shit.
Natasha: That was a tough bot. If Tarleton has an army of these...
Y/N: We're in trouble.
Natasha: Right. Come on. The loading bay is in here.
Y/N: Good.
You just wanted to find Kamala and get out of here. You can scold her later. As odd as it sounds, you just wanted to make sure she was safe. You wanted to see her.
You and Natasha entered the loading bay and looked around. You spotted a window where you saw more Inhuman prisoners running by. You watched them until Monica came into view ontop of a crate.
Monica: "Tiny Dancer". Doesn't have the same bite as Black Widow, does it?
Natasha: Took you long enough to figure it out. I thought you were the brains of the operation.
Monica smiled as a large crate moved into position over her.
Monica: I am. It's nice to be appreciated.
The crate opened and another Adaptoid leaped out. It blasted the floor and nearly hit you. You and Natasha leaped down to the floor below as did the Adaptoid.
Natasha: So if you're running the show, what's the endgame?
You leaped forward and swung your ax at the Adaptoid as Widow provided cover fire.
Monica: That may have worked in Taskmaster, but I'm not stupid enough to fill in the blanks for you, Widow.
Y/N: Don't be so greedy now.
You leaped overthe Adaptoid and continued fighting it as Widow helped you while interrogating Monica.
Widow: Let me take a stab. You and George are using Inhumans to create Adaptoids. That formula keeps them alive just long enough for you to copy their powers.
Monica: That's part of it. But I have, grander aspirations.
Y/N: Replacing the Avengers.
Monica: Not everything is about you.
Y/N: Really? Cause it kinda feels like it.
You finally beat the Adaptoid and took a breath. However, when you did. You ended up inhaling a green gas that had began to fill the room. You fell over and began to cough as Natasha grabbed you and swung both of you up to a higher ground.
She set you down as you tried to stop coughing.
Natasha: Nerve gas. I'll shut it off.
You rolled to your hands and knees as Natasha walked over to a terminal. She typed into it. However, she was grabbed from behind by a large white metal hand that pulled her away. You looked up and found Monica in a large white mech.
Y/N: Shit <cough cough>.
Natasha: Monica, nice suit.
Monica: You've caused enough problems.
Natasha: And I'm not done yet! Where's the girl?!
Monica laughed as she threw Natasha back towards you.
Monica: Oh, not so easy.
Widow stood back up as you pulled yourself back to your feet. You pulled out your ax and held it tightly.
Y/N: It's about time I got to kick your ass. <cough>. You'll pay for what you did to me and Kamala.
Widow smiled while Monica glared at you.
Monica: Ah, you're the Leviathan's son. Like mother like son, I suppose.
You tightened your grip on the ax as Monica charged at you. Widow opened fire as you charged forward. You swung your ax into the glass of the cockpit but it was thick and hardly did any damage. Still, it did do something. It caused Monica to stagger.
You leaped back and attached your ax to the end of your grapple. You then swung it around and watched it stab into the suit. You then pulled it towards you which sent the suit falling forward. In that moment, Natasha connected her batons into a staff and leaped up into the air. She stabbed the staff into the back of the suit but it got back up. You swung your ax again which landed in the leg which you pulled back. The ax returned to you hand and you rolled forward. Natasha leaped out of the way as you activated your strings. They stabbed into various points into the machine which held it in place.
Widow opened fire on it as Monica laughed.
Monica: You are both fools. All of you are. Everything I do is for the sake of humankind.
Y/N: The people you're killing are human too, Monica.
Monica: Nobel sacrifices.
Natasha: From my experience, that always ends in death.
Monica opened fire on the two of you which sent you scattering.
Monica: Doesn't everything end that way with you?
Natasha: What's that supposed to mean?
Monica: I remember A-Day.
Y/N: So do I!
You lunged forward and dug the ax back into the glass. Now that it was weaker, it cracked enough to show Monica in full. You were hit by the mech and you ended up sliding back. You slid so far, in fact, that you fell back into the gas. You helmet blocked it out this time so you were able to breath.
However, you couldn't see.
Kraken: Well, there's the little Leviathan.
You turned around right when Kraken kicked your gut which sent you flying back. You stood back up and looked around. They were hidden by the gas. Overhead, Natasha delivered one final blow to Monica which sent her falling back.
Natasha: You got a lot to answer for, Monica.
She stepped on the suit and kneeled down to look at her.
Natasha: Where did you move the Inhumans?
Monica: Wouldn't you like to know.
Monica then passed out from the exhausting which made Natasha sigh.
Natasha: Damnit. You won't get off that easy.
Just then, Resistance reinforcements moved in and headed toward Monica to capture her. Down below, you found yourself still looking for Kraken. You helmet couldn't warn you of them since it was blinking red everywhere. The gass was messing with it.
Kraken: Found you.
You turned around as Kraken slammed their fist into your chest which sent you threw a window and outside. Kraken leaped through the glass and pulled out their blade. You got back up to your feet and pulled out your ax.
Y/N: So, rematch?
Kraken: I'd be delighted.
All around you, Inhuman prisoners were fighting off AIM air ships and soldiers with their powers. You pulled out your ax and faced down Kraken.
Kraken: Your move.
Y/N: Thanks.
You swung your ax forward which Kraken dodged. They then swung their sword which you managed to avoid by jumping up. You then flipped backwards as the Chimera came into view. Looks like Tony finally arrived.
You blocked another hit and kicked Kraken away. You swung to counter their attack, but they were quicker. They ended up slicing your arm before they kicked you off the balcony and down into the level below.
You landed hard just as Widow spotted you.
Natasha: Y/N?!
She rushed to you and helped you up. When you looked back to where Kraken was, they were gone.
Y/N: Damn.
You turned back to Natasha.
Y/N: You find Kamala?
Natasha shook her head. The two of you began to ask passing prisoners.
Y/N: Hey!
You stopped one of them, a dude who looked frozen, and looked at him.
Y/N: Have you seen a teenage girl, brown hair and about yay high?
You held up a hand to give an estimate to which the boy nodded.
Inhuman: Uh, yeah. She was in the cells with us. She refused to come with us, though.
Natasha: Ok, just, go.
The man nodded and ran off with the others as you clenched your fist. You and Widow headed back into the building and toward the cells which were now lot by red lights.
You held your ax at the ready while Natasha held her gun. You finally made it to the cells and looked around before you spotted someone.
Y/N: Kamala?
The girl stopped walking and turned around to see you and Natasha. She looked at Natasha first.
Kamala: Black Widow?
She then noticed you. Her eyes went wide when she saw your cut. You deactivated your helmet so that she could see your face.
Kamala: Y/N? What...what are you doing here?
Y/N: I could ask you the same thing, Kamala. Are you okay?
Natasha: We can talk on the Chimera. Come on. Let's get you put of here.
Natasha started to walk back towards the exit, but you noticed Kamala didn't even move. Natasha stopped as you looked at your friend.
Y/N: Kamala?
Kamala: Um....I'm going home.
Y/N: What?
Kamala: To Jersey. Um...I don't know who I was kidding. You were right, Y/N. I wasn't ready. And, I'm no hero.
Natasha: I don't know. I got a jet full of people who would say otherwise.
Kamala shook her head.
Kamala: I couldn't control it. I keep...passing out. I...I blew it.
Natasha looked at the girl for a moment.
Natasha: Hey, mistakes are going to happen. To be honest, Jersey wasn't my finest hour either.
You raised a brow before you thought back on the AIM soldier who was trying to help you.
Y/N: That was, you?
Kamala: Tiny Dancer.
Natasha nodded.
Natasha: Look, kid. You're already a hero. The only one left to convince if yourself. And that goes for the both of you.
She looked back at you as you thought about it. Kamala slowly began to smile at Natasha's words before she nodded. You had to agree. Kamala was a hero. But, you didn't feel like one. Not yet, anyway.
Natasha: Come on. Let's get the hell out of here.
You smiled at the idea, however, that smile didn't last long. Out of no where, Kraken appeared. You had no time to react. No one did. You watched as their blade swung up and before you knew it, you couldn't see out of your left eye.
Y/N: AHHHHH!
Natasha opened fire on Kraken as Kamala grew her fists. You fell back and held your eye as it bled over the floor. Kraken turned their attention to Kamala but Widow was already there. She kicked Kraken away who stood up and pointed their blade at her.
Kraken: Well, the Widow joins the band. It'll make for a good show. However, my boss told me to keep you all alive. So until then, goodbye.
Without another word, Kraken leaped off the catwalk and vanished from sight. Kamala and Natasha rushed to you as you held your eye in pain.
Natasha: Hang in there, kid. We got you.
She picked you up and supported your left side while Kamala watched. You shook your head and let go of Natasha as you stood on your own. You kept your eye close but you could walk just fine.
Y/N: I think, it's done for. Shit.
Natasha nodded and lead the way out. You followed before Kamala stopped you.
Kamala: Are you sure you're...
Y/N: Come on. Let's get somewhere safe before you start worrying about me.
She hesitated but eventually nodded. The two of you walked together outside.
Bruce watched as Monica was escorted past him before he spotted the three of you. Bruce looked at Widow for a moment and nodded before he looked at Kamala.
Bruce: Are you okay?
Kamala: I'm sorry. I messed up.
Bruce just smiled.
Bruce: It's ok. Um...why don't you...why don't you get inside. Looks like someone needs to be taken to get medical help.
He looked at you to which you gave a sarcastic smirk. Kamala helped you toward the Chimera to make sure you didn't trip over anything as Bruce looked at Widow. He crossed his arms.
Bruce: So...Tiny Dancer?
Widow just smiled.
Natasha: It's good to see you too, Bruce.
The two of them then headed to the Quinjet together.
