Twins (Rogers)
Twins (Rogers)
*set back in the 40s, my apologies if time doesn't match up exactly. Enjoy!*
"Steve! Wait!" you yelled after your twin brother, Steve Rogers. He was a ways ahead of you talking to Bucky, and you felt pretty alone at the moment. Your parents were gone, and it was just him (and Buck) that you had left. You never had a lot of friends, and it wasn't like you'd get more at this point. It was mostly you, Bucky, and Steve. But now Steve was ignoring you and making you upset.
"Steve!" you yelled again, hurrying to catch up with the boys. This time, it seemed they heard you and stopped. Both turned around to see you hurrying up to them. "Please don't just leave me like that," you whispered, pushing your hair behind your ear and walking with them. Their conversation continued.
"Look Buck, I don't want to go back to Coney Island and...ya know...throw up...again..." Bucky bursted out laughing, and you released a chuckle or two. Steve gave you the stink eye and you stopped, but your smile remained on your face.
For the rest of the walk home, you all talked and laughed about random things like usual. You we about to add something, when a larger arm snaked around your waist and a hand clamped around your mouth. Your eyes widened like in the cartoons you and Steve used to watch all the time, but this was no laughing matter. The person kidnapping you was most likely a man, just based on their build. In your attempt to break free from him, you kicked and hit, and screamed through his hand. One of your feet managed to nudge Bucky's shoulder, and he turned around just as the man was shoving you into a car.
"(Y/n)!" You heard Steve's voice, and you assumed they were running after you. But with Steve's health issues, there was no way you'd be saved.
~~
At some point during the journey, wether it was forceful or not, you had fallen asleep in the cramped trunk space. It wasn't a peaceful awakening, it was because something hit the car, jarring you awake. There was yelling coming from the front, and you swore you heard a gun fire. Sirens went off in your head screaming "THIS IS DANGEROUS. RUN, SCREAM, JUST GET OUT." So you tried that.
"Help!" you screamed, then started to pound the door of the trunk. You heard a faint swear and demand for silence from the front, but you ignored it and kept slamming on the trunk. "Get me out!"
More commotion went on in the front of the car, and this time you were sure you heard a gunshot. Now you screamed, not even coherent words, just sound for somebody to help you. Finally the trunk popped open and you instinctively scooted backwards into the corner of your space.
In front of you, there were two people. One was an older man who was wearing an army outfit, with lots of medals and such on his chest. The other was a woman, also wearing a military outfit. She was younger, with bright red lips.
"Are you alright?" the woman asked you, and you noticed she had an accent that sounded British. Your body shook, and you were barely able to shake you head no. She held out a hand and you put yours out as well. Even though you were 25, this woman handled you delicately. You assumed she had assumed herself about the severity of the situation. It might not of been as bad as she was thinking, but what had happed was enough to shake anyone up.
"Can you give us your name?" the man asked. His voice was harder, American for sure. He didn't seem as patient as the woman did. In honesty, you were a bit scared. "I'm Colonel Phillips of the United States Army, if that makes you feel better," he said, mumbling the last part.
You opened your mouth and waited for sound to leave it. "My...my name is (Y-Y/n). (Y/n) Rogers," you answered. He nodded and wrote something, probably your name, down on a clipboard. The woman next to you kept a hold of your hand and led you over to the Jeep they had been in.
"My name is Peggy Carter, also part of the United States Army. Why don't you come with us and we'll make sure you are alright." You nodded in agreement and she helped you into the Jeep. You sat in the backseat next to another man while Peggy got into the passenger seat and Colonel Phillips in the driver's seat. You looked to the man next to you. He did not look like a soldier or general of any sort.
He looked over and you and gave you a charming smile. "Hi I'm Howard Stark. And you are?" he asked, and gave you his hand. You grabbed it to shake it lightly but he instead took you hand to his mouth and kissed the back of it. A light blush spread across your cheeks, and you looked down.
"(Y/n) Rogers," you answered shyly. This was the most flirty-ness actions you'd gotten from a guy in...well, ever. Bucky refused to flirt with you in anyway because he didn't want to make Steve mad or feel left out.
Bucky...
Steve...
"Wait, where are we?" you asked. Howard looked up at the Colonel, and then back to you.
"About 15 miles out from Camp Leigh in New Jersey. Why?" he answered and asked. Again, your eyes grew and you started to panic. You looked around you and tried to control you increasingly shallow breathing.
Howard gently grabbed your shoulder as you panicked, causing you to look over at him. "Whoa, whoa what's wrong?" he asked. You had everyone's attention now, and felt a tad embarrassed. Rather than looking at all of them you looked to Howard.
"I live all the way back in Brooklyn. My brother is there, and so is his best friend. They have got to be so worried. I was walking with them when I got kidnapped. I'm all he has left..." you trailed off. You refused to cry, so instead you looked over at the Colonel. "When can I go back?"
He sighed and looked at a map of something, most likely the area we were in. "Well," he started. "I need to get to camp so I can see our new recruits, but as soon as I can or as soon as I can get a driver to, I'll get you back home, alright?" he asked, turning to look back as you now. You nodded and he nodded back, then turned back to the wheel and got ready to drive.
The Jeep started to move and the four of you headed to Camp Leigh. But little did you know, you wouldn't be going home for a long time.
~~
The drive didn't take long, and when you got to the camp, Peggy kindly showed you to the area where she stayed, and gave you the room next to hers. Yes, they were tents, but it was close enough. Probably better than at home. When you entered your tent, there was a nice mattress with a small box next to it in place of a bed and nightstand. On top of the box, there was a lamp for night use. There was a trunk looking box that you were able to place your possessions in, but you didn't have any so it served as a seat for another person if needed.
As you looked around your new room, you heard the flaps to the tent shifting. You turned and saw Peggy standing there, something in her hand. "We thought you might like to do something here, so here's a uniform. I guessed on the size of it, so I hope it's alright," she said, and passed the uniform along to you. With one last exchanged smile, she left and you decided to change and see if the outfit fit alright.
You finished putting it on and smoothed out your military green skirt, and straightened out your jacket and belt. It was a tighter fit, but you thought you pulled it off. Outside you heard some commotion, so you left your tent and saw some new recruits coming in. Peggy and Colonel Phillips were there to greet the boys, and they started to pile out. You stood and watched from the sidelines, trying to see if you recognized any of them.
Bucky had been talking about it, and said he might be conscripted into the army if volunteers ran short. So you looked for him. Steve on the other hand, you were 110% sure you wouldn't see him here. With his history in health related problems and the fact that you were the same height as him, there was maybe 0.01% chance you'd see him.
All the boys got to their stations and Colonel Phillips took over, and Peggy came over to you. "So, I see I did alright," she said, noticing the uniform fit. You looked it over then looked back and smiled.
"Yes, thank you so much! I feel less out of place, and I might actually get something good out of this whole experience," you said, scanning the new recruits and the camp itself. Peggy looked with you and smiled.
She sighed and looked back to you. "Well, I used to be the only woman here and it was...tough to be alone and have to deal with the high amounts of testosterone, but now that you're here I might have another lady to help me punch some sense into some boys." The two of you laughed and walked over to the recruits, and you watched as Peggy got them started on exercising, starting with jumping jacks. Maybe this whole thing wouldn't be too terrible.
~~
It had been a couple months since you've been at the camp, and you were up there with Peggy on levels of respect. Now, since you actually never were conscripted or anything, the other generals and colonels didn't share that respect with you. Other than Peggy, they all saw you as the girl who tagged along. Well, then there was Howard, who was just trying to flirt with you.
Another batch of boys were coming in, some volunteers, and now you were starting to get the people conscripted into the army. You could tell who was who, because the ones who jumped off were volunteers willingly being here, and the ones who got off like normal people were the conscripted bunch.
On the outside, you stood there looking cold with Peggy and Colonel Phillips, staring at them and scaring them slightly. On the inside, however, you pleaded not to see any familiar faces. It'd be nice, but that would mean they'd be at a larger risk for dying.
The crowd of boys got lined up, and you and Peggy made way to the front of them all. Peggy started her speech, and you walked behind her, staring each of them down. Once you got to one face, you nearly gasped aloud. There, in the front row near the middle, was your best friend James Buchanan Barnes. You two locked eyes and his widened, and he looked like he wanted to say something but didn't. Mouthing a quick, "Later," to him, you continued on your walk observing the bunch.
"Now, since it's later and we want to make you feel some-what comfortable, the Colonel and I have agreed to let you go ahead to your barracks for the rest of the night. But! Tomorrow morning at dawn you will be up and running literally, so make sure you sleep well tonight because it'll be the last night you'll have for a while." She nodded and they all started to get all 'buddy buddy' with their friends, and you made a beeline for Peggy to ask her something.
"What is the policy of speaking with the recruits?" you asked her, Bucky still on your mind. She thought for a second before responding.
"Talking is aloud, more than that is frowned upon." You thanked her quickly before speed walking to Bucky, who was talking with someone. He was facing the direction you were coming from, so he saw you and gave the guy a quick pat on the shoulder, before coming over to you. Before you could stop him, her engulfed you in a hug.
He let out a breath, and released you, yet kept his hands on your arms. It was as if he was worried you'd disappear. "I thought I'd never see you again doll! What the hell happened, how'd you end up here?" he asked frantically.
You smiled and placed one of you hands on his arm too. "German soldiers kidnapped me and on their way to who knows where, one of the US military vehicles intercepted them and freed me. I was told though I had to stay here because new recruits were coming in fast, so now I help run the recruits with Peggy," you explained. Bucky let out another breath and his grip tightened slightly.
"I can't believe you were kidnapped. Why you? God, Steve is going to freak out when he finds out. I plan on going back for one last time to see him before I have to go anywhere across the ocean. You have to come home!" he said, and a couple people looked to you two.
You placed a finger up on your mouth and he got the idea, and you spoke. "Look Buck...I would love to go home, but I actually like it here. I'm helping, and it's been so great. Peggy and I are great friends, and I look amazing in this uniform," you countered. He looked over your outfit and nodded.
"Yes, you do pull that outfit off, but Steve...he misses you. It's bad enough I'm going, but he couldn't live if you stayed here...but if it's what you want then at least try to come out with me to see him. He really misses you. Hell, you're his twin sister. It's like half of himself got ripped outta him," Bucky said, and you felt guilt pool in your stomach. You've only been thinking about yourself, you forgot how Steve would feel.
Letting out a sigh, you nodded. "Okay, I'll come back with you when you go back. I'll take to Colonel Phillips. He doesn't really like me, so it's a long shot, but I will try." Bucky smiled and pulled you in for another hug, when someone cleared their throat behind you.
Letting go of him, you turned and saw the man you had just spoken of standing behind you two. You awkwardly cleared your throat. "Um, sir, this is James Buchanan Barnes. He is my best friend back from Brooklyn," you said, introducing Buck to the Colonel. Bucky saluted and Colonel Phillips gave a nod in return.
"That's great. Now, you said something about talking to me?" he asked, most likely already knowing hat you wanted. He knew that you'd clam up and wouldn't say anything, because quite frankly he was a bit scary. He knew that too, and would hold it over you. But now, you decided to take a page out of Peggy's book.
"Sir...I was just wondering if before the 107th has to head out, if myself and Barnes would be able to go to Brooklyn. I haven't been home in a few months and would just like to see my brother," you said, not faltering once during your speech. Colonel Phillips was silent, and it took him a second to regain his composure. To be fair, it was the first time you'd spoken to him like that.
"Alright, that works with me. In fact, in a week we have to send these boys to infiltrate a Hydra base in Germany. There will be a day when you can head on up to New York. After that, we'll move base to Italy. 5 miles from the front, so yeah, best say a quick hello to your...brother," he said, before walking off to his tent.
~~
You went back home with Bucky the day before you had to leave, and the two of you decided to surprise Steve. However, those plans were changed when the two of you heard struggling in an alleyway. Bucky hurried down and you followed close behind, to see a bigger guy beating up
Steve. Of course it's Steve.
"Hey!" Bucky yelled, then grabbed the guys arm to pull him away from Steve. The guy stumbles back as Bucky continues. "Pick on someone your own size." The guy goes in for a punch, but Bucky avoids it and punches him right in the jaw, making him spin 180 degrees to face you. He went in to punch you, but you side stepped and grabbed his arm and twisted it. You threw him back a few steps and went to Bucky's side as Buck kicked his ass, literally, and the guys stumbled away.
You turned around quickly to help Steve up off the ground. Bucky walks towards the two of you and remarks, "Sometimes I think you like getting punched." Steve wipes his face and finally looks at you, his eyes widening once he registers it's you.
"(Y/n)? God, you're okay!" he yells, and he goes in for a hug, with you quick to accept. It's so nice to see him again, you almost convince yourself to stay. But Colonel Phillips expects to have you back at the base to head off to Italy. "Where have you been?" he asks, then pulls away.
You're about to answer when he takes in you and Bucky's uniforms. As Bucky asks him about enlisting in the army for the fourth time, lying and saying he's from Jersey, he focuses on the uniforms. "You get your orders?" he asks Bucky first.
"107th. Sergeant James Barnes. First thing tomorrow." Steve nods, then looks at you.
"What about you. What the hell happened?" he asks. You looked at the toes of your heels, then take in a deep breath before answering.
"I'm a commander now. I'm going with Buck as well, and came to tell you bye." Steve still looked at you, waiting to hear the whole story, so you explained it to him, all the way up until you saw Buck with the new recruits. When you're done, Steve looks at the ground. You knew what was coming.
"I should be going," he states, wiping his hands off. You and Buck sigh. Steve looks back up and makes eye contact with Bucky, and the boys crack a smile.
Bucky slings his arm around the shorter man's shoulders. "Come on man," he says, and the three of you start walking out. Bucky takes his other arm and puts it around your shoulders. "By the way, as long as we're here, you are not leaving our line of sight, got it? Yeah you're some badass military woman now but I'll feel better." You smile and chuckle a bit, and the three of you head out of the alleyway.
"Gotta get you cleaned up," the brunette says next, looking at Steve.
"Why where we goin?" the blond asks back to him, and Bucky throws the forged enlistment slip away and hands Steve the newspaper.
"The future."
~~
Bucky had gotten each of you guys dates, including yourself. He was a taller man, had black hair and was pretty muscular. Not what you had in mind for your last day with these fools, but it would work out alright you thought.
"Let's go!" your date said, and he looped his arm through yours and he led your group to the stage, where the girls Bucky got for himself and Steve were also hurrying towards. You all got there and you stood behind the girls a bit, closer to Steve. You saw him offer a peanut to his 'date', but she turned him down. He pulled his arm back and examined the nuts, thinking he did something wrong. Rather than letting him be sad or anything, you took one and smiled at him, and he returned it.
You looked back towards the stage and saw Howard Stark waltzing up onto the stage. It surprised you, as you hadn't seen him since a few days after you got to Camp Leigh. He looked around the audience and saw you, pausing for a second to give you a smirk, before continuing with his presentation.
Along with everyone else in the audience, you watched as Howard made the car lift off the ground a couple feet for a solid 5 seconds, before something shorted out and it fell back down. "I did say a few years, didn't I?" he asks with a little chuckle. You laugh as well, and turn to look at Bucky and your date, and you knew that Steve had gone to register again so you didn't try to look for him.
"Hey boys, if you don't mind, I'm going to say hello to a friend really quick," you said, patting your date's arm. Bucky gave you a concerned look. "I'll be fine, Buck. Just gotta go say hello. Besides, I'm military trained. I doubt anyone will mess with someone helping their country who could also kick their ass if needed." You gave them a toothy smile, then turned to walk towards the stage.
There to greet you was a made in a suit, clearly stopping people from sneaking in backstage. "May I please get through? I'd like to talk to Mr. Howard Stark please," you asked. The man let out a noise similar to a snort, and then looked down at you.
"Look missy, I get that he's famous and you probably want to seduce him or whatever, but it's my job to stop that. If I let you in, I wouldn't be doin' my job, got it? You'll have to catch him some other time," he said, then moved his attention off of you.
Letting out an annoyed sigh, you turned on your heel to meet back up with Bucky, when you heard someone call your name. "Well if it isn't (Y/n) Rogers. Thought I'd never see you here. Come on up." You turned to see Howard there, and smiled at him. You gave a smirk to the suited man and walked back to meet Howard.
"I didn't know you were in New York," you said as you walked up to him. He smiled and gestured for you to follow him further backstage. He took you to a room with a couple chairs and you both sat down.
He shrugged and poured himself a drink, and offered you one. You politely declined, and he went on to respond to your earlier statement. "It was for my expo. Left the camp to work on some personal projects like the fail you saw on stage, and then I'd come back to Italy with the 107th to help work on other things," he said, then took a sip of his drink.
"For starters, you didn't fail. You clearly said in a few years, and nobody else has even come close to that sort of technology. You did great, and I believe in you getting that flying car out there," you said, offering him a smile. "To continue, will I see you on the way over to the other camp?" you asked next, getting off the other topic rather quickly.
He nodded and set his now empty glass down. "I believe so, if you're going to ride the same plane Peggy and I are. I would assume so, seeing your uniform and hearing about how you've been doing. It's good to see you here, by the way." Howard went to fill his glass again, but stopped when he realized that he had drank the last of the bottle.
The two of you talked for a while longer, before you had to wrap up the conversation with a 'see you tomorrow' and a quick hug. You walked out from behind the stage and went over to the dance hall where you figured you'd find Bucky. You were right, and you found Bucky and both the girls he came with. Your date was hanging on some other chick, so you shrugged and headed over to Bucky.
He saw you and his face brightened. "(Y/n)! You're back! I'm glad to-" he was going to continue, but you cut him off.
"I'm just going to head out. I assume Steve is trying to enlist again, so I'll leave him to it. I just want to go home and sleep. It's going to be the last night of good sleep I'm gonna get for a really long time, so I'm going to make the most out of it. You have fun."
You left the dance hall and walked back to you and Steve's apartment, climbed up the stairs, pulled the key from one of your many pockets, and entered your home. You took it all in for the last time, knowing somewhere deep in your mind that you might not come back.
~~
Italy was interesting. You hadn't anytime to go out and explore the beautiful country, as you were really busy with recruits. Peggy was in New York for some experiment thing you didn't read much about with Colonel Phillips and Howard. For now, it was you and a bunch of other generals and colonels helping with the recruits. You were tasked with helping the 107th, and you'd soon help lead them into the Hydra base to destroy it. Lord, the argument you had with Bucky about that was intense, but you both had your orders from higher ups and couldn't change them.
It was currently two days before you'd go, and it'd be a tough mission but you've all been training for it. "Listen up ladies!" you hollered, getting the men's attention. You started to pace in front of the men. "We are heading into dangerous waters. Remember your training, and train like your life depends on it because in there, it will! I won't put it lightly, it's a deadly zone in there. Some of you may not make it. But if you want to, train and listen to me. There will be no breaks, they are for the weak! This is what you signed up for, this is what you're country is counting on you to do! Do I make myself clear?!" you yelled, stopping in front of them and earning a 'yes ma'am' from each person.
The speech was supposed to be rallying, but judging by some of the faces in the crowd, you knew it was a bad idea to go with Colonel Harris' speech he was going to do. The part where they might not make it was definitely something they could've gone without, but you didn't have a choice so you did that speech.
Snapping out of your thoughts, you barked more orders. "Let's get a move on boys! 10 mile run around the camp path you've learned now! Get to it!" They all fell into a sort of line and started to run around the path you had led them on day one. As they past you, Bucky gave you a smirk and kept going.
"Rogers!" you heard someone yell, and you turned to the source of the commanding voice. There was Colonel Harris, and he beckoned you to come over. You marched over and gave a him a solute. "At ease," he said, and you fell into a normal standing position. "We're heading out tonight rather than in a couple days. The men need to know as soon as they get back. You need to prepare in the mean time. The transports are ready, you just need to gather yourself up."
This news took you by surprise, but you shook it off and saluted to him, then turned to walk over to your accommodations. You packed up a little bag of weapons and bullets to help the soldiers if they run out, and you got on your leather jacket for battle. You took in a deep breath and brushed your (h/c) hair out of your face and walked back out of your tent.
About 55 minutes later, the soldiers were back. They all stopped and hunched over, panting slightly from the run. You walked over, and they all stood up tall and saluted you. When you got to the front of the crowd, you told them at ease. One man's attention was brought to the bag and jacket you had on you. "What's with the jacket?" he asked with a flirty tone a smirk. The other soldiers took it in as well, and they started to push each other an you heard a few of the remarks given. Bucky's expression, however, was one of worry.
"Attention!" you yelled, getting them all back into serious mode. "I have received word from Colonel Harris that we are moving out tonight! Get yourselves ready and at 1900 hours we'll get into the transports and head out!" They all yelled another 'yes ma'am' and went to their barracks. You caught Bucky's eyes for a split second, before going over to the Colonel's tent.
~~
It didn't go as planned, to say the least. You're attack was anticipated, and all of your men were taken to these strange cells that were just circles of bars that went from the floor to the ceiling, and they had bars over the top so guards could still see from above and such. When you were about to be taken to a cell, another guard stopped the one holding onto you. "No. She's their superior, she's coming in with us. She'll be the fist to test it out." Every inch of you screamed to fight back, to do something, but the bullet wound in your stomach caused your movements to be restricted. You briefly met Bucky's eyes once more, before you were taken out of the cell room and down a hallway.
You were taken past several rooms, one where they'd already taken a soldier and started to experiment on him. His screams hurt you, and your body shook from the pain you heard. The guard continued to nearly drag you down the dark hall, until you were taken to a room with nothing but a chair in it.
Great. Because you were superior, you'd have intelligence, right? They obviously knew that, so that's why you were given "special treatment". You let out a shaky breath as the guard sat you down and cuffed your hands on the chair, then left. The metal bit into your wrists, and the wound in your stomach felt as if something were carving into you.
A man walked into the room, and you recognized him as Johann Schmidt, leader of the Hydra sector. You pushed all the pain you felt down and ignored it, so you could appear strong and fearless in the face fo this man many called a monster.
He clearly saw the act you put on, and laughed. "I know you are in pain, and this little facade of yours won't last long if you don't cooperate," he said. The German accent stuck out like a sore thumb, but his threat was the only thing registering in your head.
"And if I don't?" you asked, making sure your Brooklyn accent stuck out. He smirked and walked to be right in front of you, then squared down to your eye level.
"Then this," he said, gesturing to your bullet wound, "Will be a best case scenario."
~~
It had been a few days since you were originally captured, and you wished you were dead. You almost were from blood loss, but stupid Schmidt made a doctor stitch it up sloppily so you'd live. That process was painful, as was the torture Schmidt put you through when you refused to say anything. You still hadn't cracked, and nearly all of your bones in your right arm were broken, your left shin bruised to where your whole leg was hideous shades of purple, blue, green, and other weird colors.
Now, Schmidt was tired of your resistance and was pacing in front of you, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Why won't you say anything!" he yelled, throwing something he had been holding across the room, and it made a loud clattering noise. Your mouth stayed shut and you smirked lightly at his breakdown, knowing you wouldn't say a word.
"I will let you go, I will let you live if you tell me what I WANT!" he yelled again, this time coming over to you and gripping your arms tightly. You bit the inside of your cheek to hold in your scream, and instead looked straight into the face of this monster in front of you.
You were going to say something, but you spat in his face instead. He growled and slapped you right across your right cheek, throwing your head to the side and leaving an angry red handprint. Breathing heavily, you stayed with your head hanging down as Schmidt left the room.
The exhaustion took hold of you and you soon passed out with your head hanging forwards.
~~
It felt like hours later when you were awake again, but you were woken up by being jostled slightly. You carefully opened your eyes and in front of you was the familiar face of your twin.
"Steve!" you yelled, attempting to wrap him up into a hug, but your wrists were still very much bound to the back of the chair. "Wrists," you mumbled, and he got back there. Now that he had moved, you saw a shaken Bucky leaning on the wall. "Bucky!"
He smiled at you, and stumbled over, giving you a huge hug. When his arm wrapped too tightly around your broken arm, you took in a sharp breath. He leaned back and saw the strange way your arm was hanging. "What the hell did that man do to you?" he asked, surveying your arm and rest of your body, finding your bruised shin.
Your wrists were suddenly free and it was a bit too late you realized those were keeping you up. The floor was rapidly coming to your face and you had no energy whatsoever to stop yourself. Luckily Bucky was there to catch you, and he helped you up. When the pressure was put on your bruised leg, however, it gave out and you crashed into Bucky's side.
"There's no way I can walk," you said, realizing they'd have to leave you if they wanted a chance. Bucky was in too bad of shape to carry you and Steve was tiny the last time you saw him. Or so you thought.
"I gotcha," Steve said, and you felt a pair of arms pick you up. You looked to see who picked you up, and it was Steve...but bigger.
"Wh-what? I thought you were small?" you asked him. He gave you a smile before heading out of the room the three of you were in. He carried you, while trying to find an exit, while also answering a bunch of Bucky's questions about his new body.
After some running, Steve got to a very open area and started climbing some stairs with Bucky following close behind. You all got to a walkway and found Schmidt and one of his scientist goons leaving.
"Captain America!" he yelled, and you gave Steve a puzzled look. He carefully set you down and Bucky grabbed a hold of you. When his arm went around you, was when you realized how much you missed him. The two of you watched the encounter between Steve and Schmidt. God, Steve had really grown. You were the shortest now.
As you were thinking, the walkway the pair were standing on started to separate, and Steve came back to you two. Then you watched as Schmidt...peeled away his face. It revealed a fleshy red skull instead, and it terrified you. Now if he did that to you while you were held captive, you may not have lasted as long as you did.
Bucky, terrified, asked Steve, "You don't have one of those, do you?" Luckily he didn't. Schmidt and Steve exchanged a few more lines before Schmidt and his scientist left in their elevator, and Steve had to find another way out.
So, you climbed more stairs. Your leg was a lot better so you were able to get up the stairs pretty well. You mostly were just pushing through the pain at this point, ignoring it and telling yourself you'd rest it later.
The three of you made it to the very top of the stairs and found a crane like thing that spanned across the open space, leading to another walkway. "(Y/n), go first," Steve said, and Bucky nodded in agreement. Carefully and with the help of the boys, you climbed over the rail and started to walk across the beam. It was wobbly and started to fall slightly, but you made it to the other side and practically threw yourself over the railing.
Steve made Bucky go next, and you remembered how sacrificing Steve had always been. As Bucky crossed, the beam started to fall. He hurried a bit and it took every ounce of you not to shout for him to hurry. But at the last few feet, the beam fell and Bucky jumped, grabbing hold of the railing. With your good arm you helped him over.
"You guys go!" Steve yelled.
"Not without you!" Bucky shouted back, and you nodded. Inside and out, you were scared. You couldn't lose your twin, not now. Not when he just got to live his goal of making it into the army. Not when he had just saved you and Bucky's lives. Not when he just became a national symbol of hope and freedom for the war.
So, Steve improvised. He broke and bent the bar that separated him and the open air, then took as many steps as he could backwards before he hit the stair railing. You saw the look of hesitation cross his face for a second, before he came sprinting to the edge, and sprung up in the air, reaching out to grab something.

Steve had managed to save the rest of your troop that was held captive and they had taken over some different vehicles. You insisted on walking with Steve and Bucky at the front, but they also insisted you sit on something (preferably lay in a truck) and rest your leg that was starting to look funny. They won, because the adrenaline rush you had wore off and the pain from your arm, leg, and horribly stitched stomach wound (that the boys didn't need to know about) flooded your senses instead. So yeah, you rode in a truck laying down next to other men who needed hospitalization.
Your crew entered the camp, and while you were unable to see anything, you were able to hear the cheers and applause coming from everyone at the camp. A few soldiers came and entered the truck you were in, helping everyone who needed it out of the truck. You tried again to say you were okay, but of course the nurses weren't having it and they plopped you on a stretcher and carried you to the medical tent.
Once inside, they put your arm in a sort of cast thing to help it heal, then they put some bandages on your leg and other parts of you that had gotten cut and possibly infected. You ended up pulling a nurse aside and telling her about your bullet wound, and she told you they'd have to transport you to a real hospital to redo it, and there they'd also make sure everything else is okay.
So that meant saying goodbye to Steve and Bucky. They were staying, no doubt about that, but you couldn't if you wanted to heal. You called the boys into the medical tent you were in and asked the rest of the nurses to vacate if they could, and they did.
"(Y/n), what's going on?" Steve asked first, kneeling to your side. Of course he would kneel to your eye level. His whole new being tall thing was weird on the both of you.
"Well, I have to be transported to a real hospital for a while to get healed up. My arm is really busted, my leg is bruised deep, and well..." you trailed off and sighed. They had to know. "I got shot in the stomach and Schmidt got some guy in training to stitch it up so I wouldn't die and he'd be able to get information so I need to get it redone ad that requires more equipment than they have available."
The boys looked at you stunned and Bucky looked almost angry he didn't notice before. After having a conversation with them and them being told to 'shoo' by one of the nurses when your transport was here, you got in a goodbye and told them you'd see them soon.
Peggy, Howard, and Colonel Phillips were there to send you off, Peggy saying she'd visit as soon as she could, and Howard winking at you. Colonel Phillips said you did a great job, and he was somewhat happy to have you in his division. That was the nicest thing he'd ever said to you.
You got onto your transport that would take you to England. They chose England because they were the closest US ally that hadn't been taken over yet, and well, London sounded nice to you.
As the door to the transport closed, you saluted Steve and Buck one last time.
~~
You were told to stay in London when the doctors had found out your bullet wound needed more treating than expected, so you had to recover longer. Currently, you were laying in bed with a small cup of water next to you, and a letter being held in your shaking hand.
You had just gotten word that Bucky had died, fallen off a train into a snowy abyss. Steve wasn't able to catch him before the handle broke off and now Steve was berating himself up about it. Peggy had decided to write you a letter about all of this, including the fact that Steve wasn't able to get drunk because of the serum and was just drinking and drinking and drinking...
A few weeks later you received another letter, this time in Colonel Phillips writing, saying that Steve had died while crashing Schmidt's jet full of nuclear bombs into a random patch of ice somewhere, rather than having the nukes explode in a populated area. At this point in your health you were allowed to walk around and stuff, but your arm was still fragile. Your mental and emotional health, however, was a different story after getting bombarded with all this news.
Now, you sat in your old apartment, in an old chair staring out at the street below. A group of kids were playing 'Captain America', one holding a painted trash can lid and leading the 'troop'. You cried, but it made you smile that Steve would be remembered so well.
A sudden knock on your door caused you to jump a bit, and you got up to slowly walk to the door. You looked through the peephole and gasped, then flung the door open.
"(Y/n)...it's good to see you after all that's...happened," a familiar brunette greeted, giving you a sad smile. You fell into a hug with her, and invited her into your apartment. "I'm alright, I just have a question for you."
"Well, what is it?" you asked her, leaning on the door frame.
"What do you think about being a founder of SHIELD with me?"
You smirked, and remembered a little bit of information Steve and Peggy had told you about SHIELD and stuff. To you, it wasn't even a question. "Should I get my uniform on?"

Steve and Natasha were checking out the building they just broke into, and had walked into what looked like an office. Inside, there were empty bookshelves, along with some pictures.
Steve walked over there first, Natasha right behind him. "There's Stark's father," she stated, nodding her head toward a picture. There, was a picture of Howard Stark. On either side of him sat two girls. One with (h/c) hair and (e/c) eyes, the other a brunette with brown eyes. Next to the (h/c) one, Colonel Phillips was there in his full uniform.
"Who are they?" Natasha asked Steve, then looked over at the soldier. He stared at the brunette for a while, then looked over at the other girl. "Steve, who's that one. You seem to be staring at her more," Nat pointed out to the blond man.
Steve let out a sigh, and held back the tears trying to push through. "My twin sister."

A/N: Oh my god guys I'm so sorry that I took so long on this one! It's over 7,000 words though, so I hope that somewhat makes up for it...? Now, I won't bore you with excuses, I'll just say I was busy driving up to Colorado Saturday and Sunday, and when I don't have WiFi, what I write doesn't download so I have to get to WiFi in order for progress to be saved and stuff.
Also, can we just talk about Captain Marvel's amazingness and the new trailer drop for Endgame?! I might seriously die or faint! Like, I cannot wait for April 26 when I can see it!!!!!!!!! AHHH Thor and Carol are gonna be BFFs. Also, a lot of guys I know don't want to see Cap. Marvel because they don't like the beautiful Brie Larson, and that's just a stupid reason not to go. Seriously, watch it, it fills in a lot for Fury's background and stuff and it's just great!
Anyways, I hope you all have a great spring break, please be safe, and I am going to try and get a chapter out by Sunday night at the latest.
Bye Lovelies!!!
