Twins (Laufeyson)

You stayed in the shadows as Loki talked with the flying man of metal. He didn't know about you- none of Earth's protectors did. You were a surprise element.

The metal man made a comment about Thor, and you could see Loki's irritation at the mention alone. Your own hand twitched at your side, some magic begging to be used. It had a small mind of it's own, but you were good enough at keeping it at bay.

But Loki's anger was clouding over into your mind, so you stepped out and up next to him. "Now brother, don't get so worked up over someone who matters so little," you said, your voice low.

He turned your way, offering you a small nod, and you could feel the cloud start to back away. You looked up at metal man, and saw his confusion. You did nothing to answer, however. You simply tilted your head and looked at him through glaring eyes.

"Uh, a... a super solider, a living legend who kind of lives up to the legend. A man with breathtaking anger-management issues, a couple of master assassins, and you, big fella... you've managed to piss off every single one of them."

Metal man picked up smoothly, but he kept an eye on you as you stayed off to the side. You didn't hide your staring, however, and kept your gaze settled on him. With your hands behind your back, you allowed some magic to come out, twirling it around your fingers.

"That was the plan," Loki commented.

Metal man took a drink. "Not a great plan. When they come, and they will, they'll come for you."

"I have an army," Loki growled, and you stepped back up to his side, silent.

"We have a Hulk."

"Oh, I thought the beast had wandered off?" Loki questioned as the metal man walked up closer.

"You're missing the point. There is no throne, there is no version of this where you come out on top. Either of you," he added, glancing to you again, and you responded with a smirk. "Maybe your army comes, and maybe its too much for us, but its all on you. Because if we can't protect the Earth you can be damn well sure we'll avenge it."

You hummed after a beat. "That was almost inspiring," you said, casually flipping your hair off to the side.

Loki took a few long strides to meet the metal man in the middle. "How will your friends have time for me when they're so busy fighting you?"

You watched with excitement as Loki lifted the tip of the scepter. It was nearly on his chest, and you were smiling wide at this point. But then it landed with a clang. The blue magic from the scepter dispersed.

You and Loki paused, not expecting this outcome. Even when he did it again, nothing happened. "This usually works," he said, casting a worried look back to you.

"Well, performance issues, it's not uncommon. One out of five-"

Loki gripped the metal man by the neck and tossed him across the floor. You simply stayed back and observed. You had to save energy for Thor. The Chitari were Loki's issue, Thor was yours.

Your brother tossed the man out the window and for a moment you were satisfied. Then, something was powering up. You turned and saw something start flying out right for Loki.

"Loki!" you called, and he looked up in time to see the metal can flying to him. It knocked him off balance, and you hurried over. "Are you all right?" you asked.

He nodded, and the two of you went over to the edge to see what had flown out. You figured it was one of the metal suits.

"How much longer on the portal?" you asked, antsy to do something.

Loki shook his head. "Shouldn't be long now."

Just then, the man flew back up. "And there's one more person you pissed off. His name was Phil."

Loki lifted his scepter up and was ready to fire when the other man fired instead, sending Loki back with a yell. You raised your own hand, ready to use some magic when the man aimed for you. You stepped back enough to be hidden by a large piece of metal in the window.

That was all the distraction needed for the portal to get started up. You could hear it start to open, and got so excited that you hurried over to the ledge and used the non-broken edge of the window to lean out and look up at it.

"Isn't it beautiful?" you asked, looking back down at the flying man and letting your electric blue eyes bore into the weird metal ones he wore.

He didn't answer, just shot up into the sky to start the fight. You turned back and hurried over to help your brother stand. He groaned as he did, but was still able to.

"Shall we?" he asked, offering an arm to you. With an evil smirk, you accepted and the two of you walked out to the platform overlooking the city.

You admired the smoke billowing out of buildings and watched as Chitauri flew around, wrecking havoc. It was all coming together so nicely.

"Loki! (Y/n)!" It was going nicely.

Loki turned and was already seething before Thor even came into his sights. Your rage was much calmer looking on the outside, but it could rival Loki's. The two of you never felt equal to Thor. He always came first. For you, it was worse, because on top of being a fake part of the family, you were a woman. Sif was one of the only women on Asgard who was allowed to be a warrior. Despite how hard you tried, everyone worked against you. Especially Thor.

The only who supported you is the one you're supporting now.

"Turn off the Tesseract or I'll destroy it!" Thor commanded.

"You can't!" Loki yelled back. "There is no stopping it. There is only the war."

"So be it."

You held Loki back from his jump. "You know what we discussed. Is that still true?"

He looked at you, all the anger he held for Thor visible on his face. "I'll need you by my side."

Without question, you nodded, and the two of you went to attack Thor together. When he'd push one of you back, the other would surge forward and continue the assault.

Along with Loki being your lone supporter, he would help you train and learn. You got to know each other's fighting styles very well, and worked off each other in ways Thor was not expecting, judging by the look on his face.

Something came up from your right and you glanced quickly to see a strange flying thing starting to focus on you.

"We have company!" you called, throwing more magic in Thor's face, knocking him back long enough for Loki to blast the 'Avengers' and send them spiraling down.

Thor let out a cry and went to tackle Loki, and they exchanged some punches before Loki was sent back to the ground. You immediately jumped up and landed on Thor's back, trying to take him down.

There was a momentary struggle, before Thor managed a grip on your arm and practically tore you from his shoulders. You went flying and nearly went off the edge, but Loki was up and grabbed your outstretched hand to stop you.

Once he knew you were safe, Loki turned back to Thor and they went back to trading punches. "Look at this! You think this madness will end with your rule?"

"It's too late... it's too late to stop it," Loki breathed. You both knew at this point, even if you could stop it, it would only end badly.

"No. We can. Together," Thor said, his voice going quiet and gentle. At first, from your spot on the ground, you thought Loki believed it. But then the glint of a small knife reminded you that your brother would never fall for those lies again.

When the knife went into Thor's side, he stumbled back, but wasn't down for long. Loki was kicked into the glass railing, then picked up and thrown to the ground.

He made eye contact with you, telling you his plan, then rolled off the side and caught a ride with a Chitauri soldier.

You went for the distraction, throwing some magic into Thor's face. While he was trying to recover, you nabbed the scepter and leapt back into the tower, all before Thor could see what was going on.

Now, your best bet was to hide and keep the scepter safe.

You watched what was happening through a window, seeing them start becoming a team, and then Thor was destroying them as they came through the portal, lighting them up before they got their chance.

"No, no, no," you muttered. You wanted to do something, you wanted to help out. But the priority was the scepter. If any one of them got their hands on it, it would be game over for you and Loki.

You didn't want to think about what that entailed.

After a moment of nothing, you looked out the window to see a Chitauri flyer get blown up, throwing Loki onto the outside platform. Right after you saw someone go up to the roof. With the portal and...

"Dr. Selvig," you muttered to yourself, knowing he was weak and would easily break out of the spell he was cast under. But right now, your brother was sitting on the edge of the platform. You started going to him, but then quickly jumped out of the way when you saw an angry green beast jump up.

Loki and the beast, you assumed the 'Hulk', crashed through the windows and landed in the main area. You wanted to keep the scepter away, so you hurried out to a stair case and found yourself going to the level above.

But whoever it was that went up to the roof would come and look for that scepter. Someone, probably Thor that bastard, would tell them where he last saw it, and the roof person would be smart enough to start looking on other floors when they wouldn't find it out there.

You decided to hide, right behind a column that was right next to the door you just took. You hoped it was the only way in.

Your long black hair that was once tied up in complicated braid, was starting to come loose, strands falling into your eyes. Quickly, you brushed them away and kept your eye trained on the door.

A minute later, the sound you were waiting for was approaching. Footsteps.

"I'm looking around for it, it could have been hidden by either one of them." Sounded female. You could picture her, the woman Loki told you about, who managed to trick him, the God of Mischief. In many other situations, you'd be impressed.

To be honest, you were impressed. Just not very outwardly.

The footsteps got closer, and you waited until the precise moment to attack. The door started to open, and you could see the woman through the crack. When it was wide enough, you aimed the scepter and charged it up to fire.

She heard you, though, and managed to close the door and use it as a shield from the blast. Then, she slammed it open and drew her weapon on you. You used the scepter to deflect the puny bullets and found a different place to take cover.

You started to peak around to see where she was, and were met with an elbow to the nose. The blow knocked you back, but you were coherent enough to use some magic and block the next few hits.

Back and forth the two of you went, her going for hand-to-hand combat, and you using the scepter and your magic to work against her.

"You can't stop it!" you yelled as you blocked yet another punch. "It's too late, you're too late!"

She didn't answer, just kept attacking. Your defense slipped at a critical moment, and a punch landed on your cheek, sending you back into the wall. She kicked your torso, and it was what it took to bring you down.

Your chest heaved and sweat poured down your face. But you still held onto the scepter. She stepped forward to grab it, but you pulled it into you, hugging it almost. "No..." you whispered. This entire thing was making you exhausted.

"Give it up," she said, the first words she spoke to you.

Instead, you smiled and looked up at her. "You know, if I knew you on Asgard, I'd praise you for being able to trick my brother. But here? You're my enemy, and I can't have that happen."

You started to charge up the scepter again, and the woman sent a foot to the side of your head, knocking you out.

When you woke up a few minutes later, you weren't surprised to see the scepter gone. Just disappointed in yourself. You had to go find Loki, tell him what happened.

As you tried to stand, your head throbbed and ached. You moved your hand up to the side where you had been kicked, and pulled it away when you felt blood. That was inconvenient.

You quietly stumbled down to the level below, where you left Loki and the Hulk. When you walked in, you saw Loki practically embedded in the floor.

"Loki! By the gods, are you all right?" you cried as you did your best to hurry over to him. Your throbbing head kept you from full on sprinting.

You got over there and found him wide-eyed and very much traumatized. He looked at you, then looked at your empty hands, then back up to your head where you were bleeding. "The woman you spoke of? She's rather skillful. I wish I had known her in a different life," you answered.

You crouched down to try and help Loki up. Instead, he grabbed your hand and had an intense expression. "Run. Hide. Just- just get away from here."

"Wha- what?" you stuttered. Of all the things you expected from your brother, this certainly wasn't it. "Loki, what do you mean? You know I'd never run, not without you at least."

He shook his head. "You have to. I know what I need to do, and I know that I cannot bare to see you get punished for this."

You opened your mouth, about to protest, but he wasn't wrong. You went to find Loki after his fall from the Bifrost and instead ran into Thanos, who used your love for your brother against you, to get you to be his slave along with Loki. By the time you realized what you had done, it was too late.

"At least we were together," you whispered. "Even if it was the worst situation we could've been in, we were by each other's sides. I... I can't abandon you when you're about to face Odin's wrath."

Loki gave you a smile. You were the only person (beside Frigga) who was allowed to see that smile. It was sweet, genuine, and full of love.

The two of you had so much more to say, but you could both hear clamoring coming your way. The Avengers. "Go! Please. I promise I'll find you again."

You nodded and quickly turned and ran out of the room. With the aid of your magic, you managed to get down to street level and change yourself into some civilian clothes. Then, you stumbled out and blended in with the crowds.

It was easy, considering the clothes you had to take were torn and covered in someone's blood. Plus, you had some pretty decent scapes on you from this entire mission. Eventually, a medical agent found you and helped clean the wound on your head.

He chalked up your silent tears to be from pain, or from the stress of the attack.

Of course he didn't know what you had just left.

A Few Years Later

Being a puny Earthling was very very difficult. At least it was in the first few months. You had no idea what to do, and it's not like it's very easy blending in with humans after living centuries as a goddess.

You started with street and underground fights. Your super strength turned you into a fan-favorite, and you got to a point where you were making thousands of dollars a night.

When you got what you considered a decent amount, you went off looking for places to live, which led to a search of getting a decent job. Some shady characters from those fights made you some pretty decent forged documents, like a birth certificate, passport- all the good stuff.

After nine months of trying to figure out what to do, you landed in a decent spot, working as a travel agent and living in a pretty nice apartment. Every now and then, you'd do another fight, just to stay trained.

Then you discovered gyms, and that became a much safer and more legal way to stay in shape.

For years, you disguised yourself as human and fit right in to society. Every now and then, you'd see something about the Avengers, and get pissed off. They tried to find you for a couple months after you ran, but weren't successful.

It especially irked you when you found out Thor had visited Earth a couple times. Those were definitely gym days.

But since time has passed, you found yourself missing him and even Odin and Frigga. Well, maybe not Odin. But you missed your life. The one before you and Loki found out you weren't even Asgardian. When it was simple.

You were walking down the street one afternoon, heading back to work after lunch, when a very large man collided right into you.

"Watch it!" you called, beginning to move around him and get back to your walk. But the man paused and looked back at you. Of course, you chalked it off to him being shocked at your British accent.

Then he grabbed you. "Hey!" you cried, ready to fight, but then you froze. "Thor."

It wasn't a question, and it defiantly wasn't an exclamation of excitement. It was really just a plain statement. That's all you could convey.

He was shocked however. Shocked doesn't even begin to describe the look on his face. "I- what- how?" Thor was looking you over, taking in your human clothes, human makeup, and human behaviors. It was weird.

You sighed and finally removed your arm from his grasp. "Look, won't I get all the time in the world to tell that story to Odin and everyone before you drag me to a cell- probably as far from Loki as possible, considering everything."

For a second longer, Thor balked, but then he snapped out of it when you mentioned your twin's name. "Loki, yes! I need your help with that, actually, do you know this place?"

He shoved a piece of paper into your hands and you unhappily took it, looking over the address. "Yeah, I'll show you the way. Can you tell me why you need to go here and why one of your Avenger friends can't help you out?" you asked, your tone as cold as your Jotun half.

Thor felt the anger (how could he not) and understood where it was coming from. However, you were missing out on multiple years of Asgard happenings. He'd make sure you got everything before you parted ways.

At the address, the two of you were teleported inside when you got to the door, which confused you both, but then you felt something bind your wrists together.

"What the hell?!" you cried, trying to utilize anything to remove them, but they wouldn't budge.

"None of your magic will work on those. They're made to stop magic. Made for being such as yourself." You looked up to the source of the voice and saw a man in a red cloak with strange facial hair. "It was very hard to find you, you pretty much stayed off the radar. This was your first critical mistake."

You were red with anger. "I don't exactly appreciate the way you're speaking to me right now," you said through gritted teeth.

"I can testify, my sister means no harm, I brought her along," Thor butted in, and the strange man didn't miss your flinch at the word 'sister.' "She is to be removed from these binds."

The man thought for a second, humming as he did so, then said, "No, we'll talk over here first." Suddenly, the two men were gone, and you were left alone in the ornate entry way. It brought you back to Asgard.

A few minutes later, the two men were back in the entry way and the strange one gestured with his hand, and the restraints were off.

"And...?" Thor asked.

The man thought for a second, then said, "Oh, right." He made another gesture with his hand and a portal opening up from above, and the only person you cared about in the world dropped out.

"I have been falling, for thirty minutes!" he yelled out, standing up and getting a dagger ready.

You finally unfroze. "Loki!" you called, already running over to him. He turned to you, his face lighting up, and caught you in a hug. You breathed a breath of fresh air, smiling at the fact that your twin brother was finally back in your life.

"I missed you so much Loki," you whispered, finally pulling away from the hug.

Loki smiled at you, the one he always reserved for you. "I missed you as well, I'm so sorry I had to do that to you. I was just worried what punishment might be in store for you," he said.

You smiled back at him. "It was strange, I hit a point where I started missing everything- Thor, Frigga, even a bit of Odin, but mostly... life before it all turned to shit." Loki made a strange face when you mentioned your adoptive mother's name. "What? What's wrong?" you asked.

He hesitated, something Loki doesn't do often. Something was very wrong. "(Y/n)... I..." He bit the inside of his cheek, not knowing how to break such news.

You were impatient. "Loki, what happened?" Fear was on your face. Something was very wrong.

Loki finally sighed. "She was killed a couple years ago. Dark Elves came to Asgard and one stabbed her," he said quietly.

Tears sprung to your eyes. So much happened, so much you couldn't be there for. "Oh god..." you whispered. Loki pulled you back into a hug and the two of you sat there until the weird man finally said they had to go.

"What are you doing?" you asked Loki.

He shared a look with Thor behind you, then looked back down to you. "We're going to find Odin." There was a silent question left in the air.

You knew your answer. "Great, where are we going?"
