Sweethearts Part Two

A/n: Please go read part one before proceeding!

Again, this will be a genderneutral!reader.

This was also requested by iamKhrfan123, so I hope you enjoy this!

You were in town for a couple weeks for the MIT reunion. At first, you imagined you would just revisit some of your favorite spots from your college days, maybe check out surrounding areas, or even see what was new.

But then Tony came back into your life. While you were extremely hesitant at first, considering your relationship with him didn't end very well, it actually went great.

At first, you were going to have dinner with him the following night. But then it worked out with neither of your schedules, so he asked about the upcoming Thursday night. It worked, and so that was the plan.

He made a reservation at this fancy Italian place called Giulia. You looked up the menu the night before and it seemed like a really nice place, so you dressed to the nines. You put on some of the nicest clothes you had in your suitcase and spent more time than you ever had before on your hair to make sure there were no flyaways or cowlicks ruining your look.

About half an hour before the reservation, you were all ready to go. The hotel got a taxi for you and you were on the way to your first date with Tony in about thirty years. Nervous was an understatement.

Tony was working away at the compound. He set an alarm to go off about two hours before he had to leave on his jet for his reservation. So really, he was only trying to keep his mind occupied so he didn't freak out.

He was so worried about having to reschedule the original date, worried you'd think he was the same idiot kid from MIT. When you said that that night didn't work for you, either, he was so relieved.

Giulia was a place his parents had taken him once when they came down for a weekend. While the memory itself wasn't one he held onto dearly, the place stuck out to him.

When trying to think of a great place to take you, that name came back up in his head, so he went ahead and booked a table. He put in a pretty good word, too, and got a table further away from other patrons.

The door to the lab opened, causing Tony to glance up from his busy work and then back down. "What's up?" he asked. He figured Sam probably needed something, but didn't want to outright say 'no' if it wasn't too much of a hassle.

"Hey, man, I hate to interrupt but I was hoping you could check out my wings? I was flying out there and something feels off," he said.

Tony shook his head. "Sorry, not today. I've got extremely important plans this evening and I can't get distracted or buried in a time consuming project," Tony replied. "Maybe tomorrow, though. Think you can hang on that long?"

"Yeah, for sure. Whatcha got going on?" Sam asked, taking a seat on a stool across from Tony.

There was some hesitation, but then he sighed. No point in lying, he just didn't need to go into the full backstory. "A date. In Boston, someone from the reunion I went to," Tony answered, deciding that was a perfect enough explanation.

Sam, however, absolutely needed to know more. "Really? Is it someone you knew from school or did you just meet them? Oh! What's their name? And where are you going because you will probably need to change no matter wherever you end up."

The bombardment of questions had Tony wanting to put up his walls. He kept reminding himself that Sam is a teammate, and possibly an acquaintance. Friend was pushing it. He was being friendly, showing interest and that he cared.

"Well, they're someone I knew from my college days, their name is (Y/n), and yes I'm going to change. Thanks for the confidence boost," Tony deadpanned.

Sam knew Tony enough to feel comfortable laughing. "You know what I mean, man. But hey! Good for you. Getting back out there. Hope it goes well." With his kind parting words, Tony went back to work.

What he didn't expect was to start feeling giddy about his upcoming date, and yet that was the feeling overtaking his anxiety. For a moment, he even thought about going ahead and getting ready for the date, and getting there early.

"Tony," a voice said, interrupting his thoughts. He looked up and saw Pepper walking in. "I need you in on this meeting, please."

He almost pouted. Instead, he put his things down and check the time on his watch. "Uh, how long will it be?"

Pepper shook her and shrugged. "Not sure, but the faster you get in there, the faster we can get out."

Every part of Tony's body willed him to say no, that he had plans, and that maybe he could simply phone in. But then he convinced himself that there were two hours left before his alarm would start going off.

He'd be fine.

So, he followed Pepper to the meeting room where all the men in boring suits waited. All the way, she mumbled about how he was wearing a grease covered shirt, but Tony didn't care enough to waste time changing.

"All right," Tony started as he entered the room, clapping his hands. "Let's get to it, shall we? What do you need from me?"

And moments later, Tony was absolutely bored out of his mind. He could feel his sanity slipping away slowly as the business people around the table droned on about things Tony couldn't give a single shit about.

He had also completely lost track of time. At least until Sam came up to the office. He knocked on the door, interrupting one of the guys talking about something- Tony had completely tuned him out at this point, so he had not one single clue.

"Hey, sorry to intrude on the meeting, I just wanted to let Tony know he has an alarm going off in the lab," Sam said.

Tony's eyes went wide and he nearly bolted up from his chair. "Shit, I completely lost track of time," he said, grabbing his things and getting out of that insufferable room. "Gotta go, send me the shortened version of this in an email that I'll probably move straight to trash."

He hurried out, Sam following right behind. "Sorry man, I was gonna stop by your room and see how the preparations were going, but then you weren't there, so I stopped by the lab to see if you were still in there, but all I heard was the timer going off. Then I searched nearly the entire damn building before finding you in that meeting room."

Tony nodded along as Sam talked, actually listening to him, and was looking to see how late he was. It was twelve minutes until the reservation.

"Damnit," he mumbled. Then, he turned to glance at Sam. "Thank you for pulling me out of there, I swear I was gonna lose IQ points listening to those idiots."

Sam just laughed. "Hey, no problem, I'm always happy to help. Especially if you need a new plan for your date since I'm thinking you're going to miss your reservation."

The man sighed, looking at his phone again to see the minutes go away. "That would be good. You think it can happen tonight? I don't want to tell them a different night, especially since they probably spent time getting ready."

"Don't worry, I got this."

You were just about to arrive at the restaurant when Tony sent you a text.

'Quick change of plans, head over to the small airfield nearby, I'll send an address.'

A second later, an address was popping up right under the first message. It was about forty minutes away, so nearby was a stretch.

"Excuse me, can we change course?" you asked the taxi driver. He nodded and you fed him the new address. Luckily, he said it wasn't in the opposite direction, so at leas you didn't have to do a 180. Now you just had to wonder why the change in venue.

Close to an hour later, you were arriving at the airport. You waved at the driver, and he went off to find a different customer. You stood outside, waiting for anything. Suddenly, your phone pinged.

'You look quite nice :)'

You turned to the left and then the right, finally spotting your date in a gorgeous suit. "Wow, what a creepy way to tell me you're here," you said. The smile on your face gave away the fact that you weren't too creeped out, though.

Tony matched your smile, showing off all his teeth. "Well, I do like to make a misleading first impression. Things can only go up from here, huh?" You laughed, and Tony joined in. "All right, all right, now I will admit, it's my fault that we're here instead. Meeting totally screwed up my plans. Luckily, I have an amazing teammate who was very eager to help me out."

You hummed. "How very kind of them. What's the new plan?"

A feeling of relief swept through Tony at your words. He was ecstatic that you weren't mad. "Well, it involves a little jet ride to a wonderful little place I like to call the Avengers Facility, where a picnic in the moonlight has been set up with all of your favorite foods. Well, your favorite foods from college. I hope they're still the same."

The smile on your face never left. "You just know me so well, don't you?" you asked, placing an arm in Tony's.

He shrugged. "I do try my very best. Shall we? I've even got a live band waiting to set the mood. I've also changed security to completely lock everyone else out. I know it's not as fancy as the restaurant here, but I hope it's good enough."

You replied by planting a kiss on his cheek. "Sounds perfect to me. Shall we get going? I can't imagine the live music will want to wait so long."

Tony smiled even brighter than before, if that was even possible. "Of course, this way my love."
