Secrets Revealed Part 3
Secrets Revealed Part 3
You woke up sometime later, still against Dr. Banner, and yawned. He shifted against you and you figured he must've fallen asleep as well. After you regained your senses in full, you looked around the hallway and realized that your godmother and the other Avengers are still arguing downstairs.
"So, Dr. Banner, it seems that they're still downstairs talking. Do you think they'll ever stop talking- sorry, arguing?" you asked him.
He looked down the stairs, as if contemplating something, then looked back at you. "Knowing Steve and Tony and Carol, they'll never stop arguing if the opportunity arose. We should go down there and see what's going on now," he said. You nodded and the two of you got up, stretched, and started going down the hallway. "And you can call me Bruce, by the way."
"Okay, Bruce. Do you know what they're arguing about?" you asked him.
He sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah, they're arguing over what to do with you. Carol wants you to stay here and live the most normal life you can, arguing that your parents would've wanted it like that. The others, Steve being the most vocal, want you to come to an Avengers facility to train your powers and understand them, also arguing that's what your parents would've wanted."
It was your turn to sigh, and you looked at your feet sadly as the two of you got to the bottom of the stairs and got closer to the yelling adults. You two turned a corner and saw the giant group standing in the living room yelling and pointing around.
"Hey!" you yelled out. They were all surprised to hear your voice and stopped yelling to look at you and Bruce standing there. He awkwardly messed with his hands and moved to sit down. "I doubt you guys have come to a conclusion? You know, about my life without my input?" you asked them. You knew how you worded it, and it was very intentional.
Carol glared at Steve once more before looking over at you. "Yes, we've been arguing about your future. You asked for alone time, so we gave it to you," she said.
"So that immediately means to discuss the rest of my life as if I'm some sort of object?" you yelled out. Your godmother looked startled at the sudden tone you used. "It's like my opinion and my life don't matter to you guys. You're just here arguing about what you guys should do with the rest of my life.
"And you know, I don't know what I want. I don't know what I want to do with my life. I'm just a kid how am I supposed to know. But at the same time, I do know. But you want to know who for sure doesn't know what I want?" There was a silence. "You guys. None of y'all can be sure as to what I want so why are you yelling and arguing like you do?"
Your rant was finally over and you took a deep breath. At this point, nearly all of their heads were down and looking at the floor in a sort of shame. "Sorry," someone mumbled within the group, but you couldn't tell who. You sat down in the nearest chair and crossed your arms.
"So, what are my choices?" you asked.
Carol and Steve shared looks with each other, and it looked like they were communicating silently with their eyes. Your godmother sighed and looked to you. "Stay here and live as normal of a life as you can, like going to school and hanging out with your friends-"
"Or coming to the Avengers facility in upstate New York to train and understand your powers." the Captain said, cutting into your godmother's sentence. She gave him a small glare and then looked back to you.
You looked over at Bruce who was enthralled by the buttons on the bottom of his shirt. "So," you said, getting Bruce's attention. "You were right about what they were arguing about. Almost word for word too." He smiled slightly and you chuckled to yourself. The you looked back at the other 'adults' with a serious expression. "So I can ignore the side of me that came from my parents, or I can be trained like some sort of superhero that I don't want to be?" you asked.
"Don't put it like that (Y/n)," your godmother said, almost scolded in a way. "We both believe that what we want for you is what your parents would've wanted."
"But they're not here," you said harshly. "They're dead." There was a ripple of shock that went through each person, and even your godmother gasped at your words.
"Why would you even say that," she said, definitely scolding this time.
You stood and uncrossed your arms. "Because it's the truth. I miss my parents so much, even though I don't truly remember them. They were still my mom and dad. I just find it funny, that's all, with how both of you think your way is right because that's what my mommy and daddy would've wanted. Can I please bring back up my point on my opinion being as important as a cow's?" you asked.
"(Y/n)," Steve said, slowly and with a hand out. You looked up and noticed that each person was arming themselves as slowly as they could. Even your godmother started to take on a defensive stance. All of their eye lines were looking at one thing:
Your hands.
You looked down at them and saw a strange glow coming off of them. It was so strange, and you panicked and fell backwards. However, the moment your hands touched the chair, the chair turned to a strange jelly state and you fell into it. "(Y/n)!" you heard someone yell before your head got submerged in the jelly.
When you tried to open your mouth to scream, you got weird chair jelly in your mouth, and then tried to (unsuccessfully) cough it up. There was a sudden pressure around your ankle, and then you were pulled out from the chair-jelly. You took in huge breaths and tried not to hyperventilate.
"Oh my god, (Y/n) are you okay?" your godmother asked. You nodded while also coughing up chair. There was a pause while everyone looked at the weird chair-jelly. "I'll just get a new chair," your godmother said. Then eyes were on you.
It was time to make a decision, and there was only one that was obvious. "I guess I should probably learn how to control this? I don't think I'd want to go to school with these powers when I could accidentally liquify the lunch table."
~~
By mid-afternoon you had packed up everything you would need in the Avengers facility. After talking with your godmother, the two of you came to the conclusion that you wouldn't really be leaving the place for a while, so less going-out outfits. She would still be living in the house, and would come up and train every now and then. Carol (she told you to call her that from now on since you two might work together) still wanted a more normal life in between missions, so you knew anything left in the house would be good. Mr. Stark had decided to box up the jelly chair to see if one day you'd be able to switch it back to normal.
Once everything as taken care of, you said goodbye to Carol and boarded the Quinjet that would be taking you to your future.
"So, will I get my own room and stuff?" you asked the group. Mr. Stark was the one who came up to you first and sat across, with Captain Rogers following.
"We can talk about room and board and all that when we get there, but yes you are getting your own room and bathroom. We can go on a tour of the whole facility once we get there," he said. You nodded and thought of more questions.
"What's my training schedule going to look like?" you asked. "Am I going to workout 24/7? Will I only workout on certain days?"
It was the Captain's turn to talk. "We will customize your workout schedule more while your here. The biggest part is understanding what you can do. Find your limits. Dr. Banner will also have appointments with you to see what your powers look like on a more molecular level," he explained.
You had flinched when he said powers. "Can we not call these 'powers'. They make me sound like I'm a superhero. Let's just call them abilities or something," you said. The Captain nodded and went to continue.
For the whole ride there you asked them all questions about what you could expect and if you had certain things to participate in, like dinners or something. Bruce had been the one to explain how everyone usually just eats meals when they want, and how only some dinners were mandatory.
"What about if you guys get called away for a mission?" you asked. "What am I to do?"
"Well," Tony (he really didn't like being called Mr. Stark) said, "depends on the context. There aren't many missions where we're all called away, so some people might still be here to help you train. In the event where we are all needed, you might just stay here with SHIELD agents and do whatever, or..." he trailed off.
You looked at him and Steve (he thought Captain Rogers was way to formal and didn't like it) then back to Tony. "Or...?"
"Or you could be brought along. Depending on where you are in the training process. The missions where we are all called away are usually pretty big, otherwise not everyone would be there. The more help we have the quicker we get the job done," Natasha finished.
You let out a sigh and rolled your head back. "I told you guys I really don't want to be a superhero. I literally just want to be able to control my abilities and not accidentally liquify an entire building."
"We know, and it's mostly just in case something big happens. Our major concern is getting to your pow- abilities. I promise," Steve said. You nodded in confirmation, and the Quinjet landed at the facility.
~1.5 Years Later~
The battle was raging, with you right in the middle along with Captain America and Thor. You turned a Hydra agent's gun to water when he got too close, and swiped his legs out from under him, finishing him off with a swift punch to the face, knocking him out.
"Cap! How many more bad guys before we're done here? I swear it's like they just keep multiplying!" you yelled out. Next to you, there was a tree with what looked to be a sniper hiding in the branches. You placed a hand on the tree and felt up to the branches the sniper sat in, and turned those branches into jelly. The sniper fell to the ground and you quickly turned the branches back.
So, for the past year and a half, you had worked endlessly on finding out more about your powers and what powers you had. It seems that you inherited the mutant abilities from both of your parents, and had worked on turning yourself into a strange gas form and back to a solid in order to escape bullets and other things thrown at you.
You accepted the part of you that connected you back to your parents.
Cap threw his shield at the sniper while he fell from the tree. "Well I have no idea. I'm just going to keep fighting until they stop coming," he answered. "Stark?"
"They really do just keep coming. But, I see the facility, so I'm gonna head in and do a quick sweep to see if there's anything worth taking." The billionaire flew fast overhead going north, and you figured that's where they were coming from.
Another streak followed right behind him. "I'll go ahead and lend a hand," they said. You smiled and hit another bad guy with a solid elbow to the jaw.
"Hey Carol. Been a while right?" You quickly turned to a gas to avoid getting hit by a shower of bullets and then Thor's hammer. "I've missed you," you said. Thor called his hammer back and sent a quick apology your way, before you turned back to a solid state.
"Yeah it's been a few months, huh? Seems like you've been doing alright," she said, and you could hear the smile in her voice as she spoke. "Let's finish kicking ass, then we'll catch up. Sound good?"
You smiled and kicked another Hydra person in the chest and turned their communicator into a gas cloud. "Sounds great."
