Pick Me
It had always been like this. Peter struggled every day to get to do anything since his older sister always took all of the best opportunities for herself. (Y/n) was always jumping up and down, begging to be picked to do literally anything. From kindergarten all the way up to high school now. Peter barely got to have anything for himself. A lot of the times, (Y/n) would get something and then not like it, so she'd pass it off to Peter. There were very few things that were truly his. For example, his best friend Ned was one of the few friends Peter ever had that (Y/n) didn't have first.
But that doesn't mean Peter doesn't love his sister. She's just... high maintenance. They get along well enough that it's not a serious issue for Aunt May. The two of them mostly hang out together with at least one of their other friends with them.
The one time they weren't together, they both managed to get powers. Peter got bit by that spider and (Y/n) got bit by a snake. It was like the universe wanted them to be together through similar events.
Neither of them went to the hospital, they just went back to Aunt May's apartment and ended up talking to each other. After lots of begging from (Y/n), Peter decided to go out and be the neighborhood superhero he had seen in the comics.
It was fun at first. But now, it was annoying as hell to Peter.
"Come on Peter, why can't we just go around for a bit? We don't need to be home right away!" she whined as they walked up to Aunt May's apartment. "The fancy car can wait!"
Peter shook his head and sighed as he started to unlock the apartment door. "(Y/n), for the last time, keep your voice down!" he said in a harsh whisper. "You're older anyway, so you can go out on your own and have a blast. May wanted us home, though, so let's appreciate her wishes and see what's up."
(Y/n) sighed dramatically as the two entered the apartment. "You are so annoying with all your junk and shit," she said, smacking the random thing that Peter had found on their way home. He decided to keep it as if it were a lost puppy or something.
She was going to say something else, but turned to the right to see May and ended up freezing at the other person there. Peter kept going though, clearly being too dumb to notice. "Okay you know what, that's just rude. I have my hobbies and you have yours. Let me collect my so-called junk in peace," he said as he set his stuff down and walked to the kitchen.
Aunt May asked, "How was school today?" She looked between (Y/n) and Peter, but knew that the former was a bit too shocked to speak.
"It was okay, (Y/n) probably had a better day becoming the decathlon team president and all that," he said. "Hey, there's this crazy car parked outside..."
Peter finally looked over and noticed the Tony Stark sitting in the living room eating what looked like a walnut date loaf that May made. "Oh, Mr. and Ms. Parker," he greeted, looking between the siblings.
(Y/n) remained frozen to the spot, unlike her brother, who was walking forward and stuttering a bunch. Finally, he managed to say, "Hey, I'm Peter. That's- the one who isn't saying a word- that's (Y/n). Wait- what are you... what are you doing here?" He crossed his arms and looked between his sister and the McFreaking Tony Stark on his couch.
"It's about time we all met," Tony Stark said, gesturing to himself and the Parker siblings. "You've been getting my emails, right?"
Aunt May was in shock as well, smiling widely with her mouth open. Peter was confused and trying to get there. "Yeah, yeah, regarding the uh..."
"You didn't tell me about the grant," she suddenly said, giving the Parker siblings their in.
(Y/n) finally unfroze and decided to speak up. "Well that's because we wanted to be sure we got it first. Or, well, did only one of us technically get it?" she asked as she took a step towards Peter.
Tony Stark nodded and made an 'ah' noise. "Well, you both had applied for the September Foundation a long time ago, I saw both the proposals and loved 'em both, so here I am," he said. Then he gave a look and a wink that Aunt May missed saying 'go with it.'
So they did. After a bit more stumbling and an excuse about how May loved surprises, that there was money involved, and then Tony Stark offered to talk with the Parker siblings alone to iron out some details. May agreed quickly and the three walked off to Peter's room since it was the closest.
The siblings had a conversation with Tony Stark, resulting in a small argument between the two of them that ended with (Y/n) easily saying she'll go to Germany. Peter was still a bit hesitant, trying to use homework as some dumb excuse.
"Peter, you have to do this with me! You remember the last time we went somewhere and we weren't together? This happened to us," (Y/n) said, pointing at where their crime-fighting outfits had just been hidden after Tony Stark found them.
He sighed, and looked at Tony Stark who was now sitting on the bed next to him. Then, he looked back at his older sister who looked so excited. "Okay, why not. This will be fun."

The Germany fight left the two of you in pretty bad shape. Peter was lucky in that he could heal at a faster rate than average people. You were stuck in the 'average people' category with healing.
Neither of your injuries were serious enough to warrant a hospital visit and the two of you were about to lie and tell May it was a bully. She insisted you two go a different way to school now to avoid this bully from Brooklyn.
"We kicked ass," you muttered to Peter, and gave him a small fist bump.
Peter mumbled an agreement, but inside he was a little sad. Mr. Stark had come up with this great plan with a pretty dramatic entrance for someone while the other would kind of be a secret weapon. You had insisted on being the dramatic entrance, telling the others that you would be much more composed in this situation. Peter settled with being a 'hidden gem' of sorts.
But if he was being honest, he wanted to be that surprise factor. Peter was never the kid to get that spotlight growing up and he wanted his chance to get it as a hero. As always, you beat him to it, though.
~~
"Please, Mr. Stark, I can handle this guy!" you pleaded with him. Next to you, Peter was much quieter. "Look, we made a mistake, but I know that if you just gave me a chance I could get this Vulture guy and he wouldn't be a problem anymore!"
The older man shook his head. "No, (Y/n), I want you to stay away. Far away from all of this. It's too dangerous and I don't know if I can trust your impulsiveness right now."
The words hurt. You sniffed lightly and nodded your head. After you turned around and started to walk away, you heard Mr. Stark talking to Peter and not being anywhere near as harsh as he was to you. The tears fell pretty quickly after that.
When the two of you got home, Peter said that you both had been kicked off superhero duty, at least for now. At some point he might let you two help again, but for now he needed you two to be teenagers.
So that's what you did. You pushed yourself to be better and to do better. You pursued team captain positions in every club you were a part of and even got quite a few of them. Peter lived his life, too, and it almost felt like you too were drifting apart. It didn't catch your attention though, because homecoming was next week and you had a date with one of the most popular seniors in the school.
"May, I need your help!" you called from your dressing room. She came in a few seconds after and helped zip up the next dress. Today was dress trying on day, and May insisted on buying you whatever dress you wanted. Even though she told you not to look at the tag, you did anyway and ensured you didn't try on any expensive ones.
The zip was up and you turned around to show May. She smiled and moved so you could go out and see the dress in the mirror for yourself. It was a cute dress that went to your knees and it was in your favorite color. For the price, it was perfect.
"I love it, let's get it," you said.
On homecoming night, May and Peter waited until your date had picked you up before leaving so Peter could go to his date.
You and your date, Will, waited outside for Peter and when he showed up you immediately knew something was off. Liz and Will walked ahead a few steps and you quietly asked Peter, "What's going on? Why do you look like that?"
Rather than telling you everything about how Liz's dad was the Vulture and how he had huge plans going on tonight, Peter shook his head and put on a tight lipped smile. "Everything's good, just nervous."
Peter mentally sighed with relief when you smiled and brought him into a side hug. "She bought it," he thought.
~~
You were furious when you heard what happened with Peter. He didn't even think to mention anything to you. Mostly, you were worried about how he could've gotten hurt and you would've had no idea until he showed up in the hospital.
But there was the selfish part of you that was jealous of what he was able to do. Not only did he take down Vulture- completely alone- he got back on Mr. Stark's good side. You had no idea where you stood though, and didn't know how to find out without possibly making him mad.
Not knowing what else you could do, you climbed out your bedroom window and hung out on the roof where you were somewhat sure you'd have privacy.
As you grew up, you saw the favoritism towards Peter since he was the younger sibling. You decided to do all you could to make yourself better so they wouldn't forget about you. By the time your parents died, you were too deep into making yourself the better sibling that it didn't stop with Aunt May and Uncle Ben.
Now being a vigilante? You felt like you had to be better to save people. It was a mindset you dove into and are now buried in.
It was hours later before you decided to go back into your room. When you did, you saw Peter there, angrily pacing. You landed on the carpet and he looked over at you. "Where were you?" he asked. He wasn't happy at all.
You just scoffed and rolled your eyes. "Seriously? You're about to get mad at me, Peter? Should we even start to discuss where you were last night?" you snapped back. "You should've told me about what was going down rather than take it all on your own. You could've gotten really hurt!"
"You're just saying that because you want the glory and can't stand the fact that you weren't the best sibling for once!" Peter yelled back.
You shook your head and turned away for a minute, then looked back. "You know what? Fine. That's all I care about- being the better sibling. Is that what you want to hear?" you nearly screamed. "I was worried, Peter! And so was Liz, and Ned, and MJ! That was because of you!"
Peter gave a sarcastic laugh. "That hilarious, seriously! The fact that you think I believe you is so funny! You have always been wanting the spotlight and can't understand it when you aren't!" he yelled.
His words weren't 100% true. Peter's your younger brother- of course you care about him- and even more so because of what you two have been through. There was still that little part of you that always wanted the spotlight, but of course you still wanted to make sure he was okay.
But you honestly didn't know if he knew that. And no matter what you said to try and tell him you did, he never believed.
"Get out," you said, just above a whisper. Your eyes were trained to the ground to stop yourself from tearing up.
Peter stopped and looked at you in disbelief. "What?" he asked.
You looked up at him with tears brimming. "Get. Out."
He scoffed, then turned and left. After he was all the way out of the room you hurried to the door and slammed it shut. The tears fell after that.
~~
You and Peter hardly spoke after that and May definitely noticed, she just had no idea how to handle it. Of course the two of you fought, but never ever like this.
Different things happened in your not talking stage. The world was attacked by aliens. You and Peter both jumped off that bus to help, but not with each other. But even if you were mad, nothing could compare to the scream you let out when you saw Peter had gone into space. And you couldn't protect him.
Instead, you fought with the Avengers still on Earth. But then you lost, and turned to dust while asking what was going on.
What felt like a few seconds later, you were there again, in the Wakandan forest. But things were different and there wasn't a lot of time to explain because this wizard needed you and the others who came back to help fight at the destroyed Avengers Compound.
You saw Peter again while there. You were glad he wasn't dead. But now wasn't the time to reunite, it was time to fight the bad guys, and so that's what you did. Until Tony Stark sacrificed himself to save the universe.
You stood at the back of the group, silently crumbling as you watched him die. He was your hero, too, and you couldn't even say anything. Peter did, though. He was right there, got the chance to say goodbye.
After that, almost a year later, you and a bunch of kids from your class (some blipped, others not) went to Europe. When Mysterio came to help fight the monsters of the elements. You and Peter were both called in, but you never looked at him. He was alive, that's all you needed to know. That's all that mattered now.
"Come on, (Y/n), you're siblings. I don't know how you two have gone this long without talking," MJ said to you one day. You didn't know where Peter went. You didn't care.
"I- you wouldn't get it, MJ. Especially because you like him. It wouldn't make sense to you." Of course you couldn't tell her the actual reason, because you might despise your brother, but you weren't going to ruin his life.
MJ walked away, leaving you alone with your thoughts. On the bus in London. You hadn't seen Peter in a bit, assuming he'd been with Nick Fury going over how amazing he was. It was like you were a toddler again, seeing your parents go bananas over Peter learning how to stand when you had done it, too, without as much enthusiasm.
A sudden storm got you out of your thoughts, and you noticed this wasn't good, not good at all. When everyone else hurried down and off the bus, you quickly took off your clothes (the suit is almost always underneath) and hopped out, ready to fight.
"Come on Peter, where the hell are you?" you mumbled to yourself, weaving your way through people and cars while trying to figure out the best vantage point and strategy for taking this guy. While he was absolutely massive, you knew you could do this.
But then- "What in the hell...?" you whispered, watching as the monster disappeared in pixels and revealed thousands of drones. With Peter in the middle. Something was wrong, and Peter knew exactly what was happening.
Your first instinct was to go to him, but the drones started to turn on you. "Shit." You dodged them expertly, destroying one after another. "It would be very beneficial to know what the hell was going on right about now!"
Amidst the fighting, you saw Peter getting thrown into a glass walkway below the bridge. "Shit, Peter!" you called, forgetting about the drones and hurrying after him.
You didn't expect the sight before you, Mysterio holding a gun at Peter as he was trapped by drones. "No!" you screamed, catching all the attention in the room. The first time you wanted to crawl into a hole away from the stares. But this was the only time it mattered.
"Don't hurt him," you said in a lower, yet extremely serious tone. "If you want to kill anyone, kill me. Not him, me. Please."
You had only a moment to make eye contact with a terrified Peter before Mysterio responded, "Okay."
The next thing you know, you were... floating. Or maybe falling in slow motion. The force of the bullet caused your body to go back out the way you came, down into the unforgiving waters below.
Peter would never understand what you did for him, why you did the things you did. But at least he would get to keep going.

A/n: I know, hella depressing. This is another one that I've had mostly written but got slumped so I just ignored it until I felt the will to try writing it again. The lead up was good, I just needed to figure out how to end it without taking an extra few thousand words. I think I've got like, three more things I started writing but then pushed aside to work on at a different time because I got blocked.
Anyway, sorry for continuously making sad Peter Parker imagines, especially when he's gone through so much canonically. I'm just a bitch, what can I say (not really but yeah). I promise I've got nicer Peter P ideas, and I'll write them at some point. For now, be sad 😂
Bye Lovelies, can't wait to see you in the next one!!!!!!!!!!!!!
