My Window's Always Open

It had been a long night. Usually they weren't so bad, but you were on your own since Peter had a mound of homework to complete. He'd been putting it off and tonight is when it finally needed to be done lest it be late.
Of course, you didn't mind. You had stayed in a few nights, too, making Peter patrol alone. But mostly you two patrolled together.
Again, you didn't mind that he could be there to fight the guy with the stole Avengers tech. But it would have been nice, and maybe- just possibly- you wouldn't have ended up in such bad shape.
Once the proper authorities came to arrest the guy and took care of the tech, you sped off to Peter's apartment. Since his Aunt May didn't know about either of you, you went to the fire escape and made it up to his window. By this point, you were pretty lightheaded.
His blinds were open- they almost always were. He was sitting at his desk, back to the widow, working diligently on that homework. It almost made you feel bad that you were about to interrupt him.
However, you genuinely did not know where else to go, because your parents didn't know and you didn't want hospitals to find out your identity.
Your right arm was secured tightly around your bleeding abdomen, so you used your left one to lightly knock on Peter's widow.
He looked up and smiled when he saw it was you. You smiled back. As he walked over, he didn't feel it was too urgent at first. Sure, you had some cuts and scrapes on your face, but that was common with the job. You'd be fine.
"Hey," he greeted once the window was open.
"Hi," you said back, yours much more strained.
That made him concerned, and he asked, "What happened? Are you okay?"
You lifted your right hand carefully to show him the blood on it. "Not entirely."
His casual demeanor was gone and he was in full-on "nurse" mode. Very carefully Peter helped you over the widow ledge, feeling bad when you sucked in a breath at a wrong move. He muttered an apology and then carefully got you to the bottom bed of his bunk.
"What happened?" he asked as he went to grab his first aid kit. He made sure to have one in his room for situations exactly like this.
Your shrugged, then regretted it when your shoulder throbbed horribly. Peter noticed and made the mental note to grab some ice, and hoped Aunt May wouldn't see and ask questions.
"Same old, same old. This bad guy had some stolen Avengers tech so I took him down. If you think I look bad, you should see him." You tried to laugh but it hurt a lot.
"Careful," Peter said, and he came back over with his first aid. You were lucky your "suit" was able to unzip and only show your abdomen. You and Peter were close, but not that close.
You laid flat on your back as Peter got to bandaging the huge gash on your stomach. He sighed, and you knew what he was about to say, so you beat him to it. "Peter, I would have called you if I needed you. I was okay, I knew I had him."
He sighed again, but not as accusatory. "I know. I just... you don't have to. It would have been easier if I were there."
"But school is still super important. Plus that's why there are two of us- so when one of us can't go out there, the other can. It's just a benefit that we can go out there together a lot," you mentioned.
"I know... but it is more fun when we're together. And safer. Probably why there's the Avengers," Peter said.
You smiled to yourself. "Maybe one day we'll be lucky enough to be on their team."
Peter smiled, too, having wished that for years, even before he was Spiderman. "Until then, just... call me if it's bad? I know you can handle it, I promise, it's just..." He didn't like seeing you hurt.
You didn't like seeing him hurt either. Maybe it was because you both had powers and could do something about it. You weren't sure.
After another minute, Peter was nearly done, but a knock came at his door. "Hey, Peter!"
You immediately got up and hurried to hide out on the fire escape while Peter ran to the door to make sure Aunt May didn't open it super wide.
He got there and opened the door- just enough for his head to fit- and you completely hid out of view on the other side of the window.
"Hey, Aunt May, what's up?" he asked, possibly trying a little too hard to be nonchalant.
She raised an eyebrow, but didn't say anything on her suspicion. "Well, if you feel like taking a quick break, I've got some dinner out here. I'll be heading out soon."
Peter smiled. "Yeah, cool, I'm just, uh, in a... in a groove right now and don't wanna interrupt the process in fear or losing the... groove..."
You, who could hear everything, had a hard time keeping in your laugh.
"You okay there?" Aunt May asked. "I thought I heard you talking, too..."
But Peter shook his head, and recovered a bit easier there. "Yeah, you did, I just find it easier to think out loud sometimes, you know?"
She nodded, and finally turned and left. "I'll say something before I leave, good luck with you 'groove'!" she called back.
"Thanks!" Then, Peter closed the door quickly and turned around to see you peaking over the window sill. "What?"
"Groove? I feel like 'train of thought' might've worked a bit better," you said, carefully getting back into his room.
Peter got over and helped out. "Ha ha. I panicked, okay? It was the first thing I thought of and it made sense in the moment. Now let me finish."
You laid back down and let Peter finish with what he was doing. "Thank you again. Really."
Peter smiled and helped you up into a sitting position. "Of course. I mean, I'm the only other person who gets it, you know?"
You nodded, and then thought for a second, absentmindedly rubbing your poor shoulder. Of course, Peter noticed, and stood up. "I'll go grab you some ice," he announced, and then left.
In the kitchen, he saw the food May was talking about- takeout from their favorite place- and went ahead and grabbed some for you and him. Then, he got out a random dry towel and dove into the freezer, looking for something for you.
"She can come in the front door you know."
Peter smacked his head trying to quickly turn around. When he did, he saw Aunt May smiling at him, ready to go. "She knows that, right? I love (Y/n)- she's welcome here anytime."
Peter smiled and nodded. "She knows. It's... some night are more... personal? If that makes any sense."
May nodded. "I get it. But just in case she thought she was stepping on any toes." Then, she took the few steps to Peter and pulled him in for a quick hug. "I'll see you later, okay? Love you."
"I love you, too, May."
Armed with a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel, Peter made it back to his room, where you were still sitting on the bottom bunk bed, leaning against one of the posts. You smiled as he walked in.
"Thank you," you said once he handed you the peas. You placed it on your shoulder and hoped nothing was too terribly wrong with it. "Have you ever thought about telling her? Aunt May?" you suddenly asked.
Peter shrugged as he took a seat next to you. You immediately angled yourself to be facing him a bit more. "I don't know. I'd like to think she'd understand and be supportive, and know that I have to do this since I have these powers. But I worry too much that she'd be put into harms way because of me. And that's something I can't live with."
You nodded, understanding where he was coming from. "What about you?" he asked. "Would you ever tell your parents."
You were shaking your head before he was even done asking the question. "Oh no. For one, it's an aspect of my life they can't control, which would freak them out. But they just... they wouldn't get it. They're the kind of people who don't ever help out, even when they have the means to, just because it's too 'inconvenient.' They wouldn't know what to make of me helping innocent people just because I could."
Peter nodded to your answer. He had never met your parents personally, but had heard a lot from you and seen the way they interacted with you sometimes. He understood why you wouldn't tell them.
The silence was becoming too suffocating, so you took in a deep breath and carefully started to stand. Peter shot up to his feet and helped you the rest of the way up.
"I'm gonna go, I have a couple things to finish before class tomorrow and I don't want to wake up early to do it. Thanks again for helping me out," you said.
Peter smiled. "You know I'm always here. Unless I'm out there. But you know what I mean."
The two of you laughed and you made your way back out his window. "See you tomorrow!"
He said the same thing back and you sped off to your apartment. Peter watched you for as long as he could (maybe half a second) before closing his window and going back to his homework.

A/n: I got the idea for this one after watching The Amazing Spiderman again and just loved the chocolate house scene. I wanted to do something on the simpler, fluffier side for Peter because I feel like I give him a hard time a lot. So I hope you guys liked it!
You lovely readers did not disappoint when I reopened my requests! I've got a bunch lined up, so if it takes a while for you to see yours, know that it will be coming!
