All The Little Things Part 2

A/n: This was a request by erincannon132 ! I really hope you like it and I'm just glad so many people enjoyed the first part enough to want a second part! Thanks guys, hope you like this! :)

When Bucky woke up later the next morning, and realized he was still in the girl's room, he knew that Steve knew at this point. There was no way he didn't.

He carefully started to get out off the bed, trying hard not to wake up the girl who was still carefully curled into his side. Taking a piece of paper and pen from the desk in the room, Bucky left a note to tell her he was going to grab food.

It was important to him that she knew he wasn't abandoning her. But, he also had to face the music at some point and that should be sooner rather than later.

Bucky thought he would be able to get to his room and maybe brush his teeth before having to face said music. Steve Rogers, however, was better than that.

Barely a few paces away from the room and Bucky was face-to-face with his best friend. And boy was his face red.

"James Buchanan Barnes what the hell did I tell you?" Quite the opening line. Definitely told Bucky this wasn't his best friend talking, it was his team leader talking. Very different people. This situation was just a reminder of that.

The man in question sighed, rubbing his face with his left hand and trying not to sigh too loudly, lest he risk even more wrath. "I-"

"You were disobeying direct orders!" Steve finished.

Bucky knew what he did went against Steve request but that's what it had been: a request. Just a thought. Which, turns out, he was wrong.

"Look, Steve, I-"

"I told you that you needed to keep distance for a while. I didn't think I'd have to spell it out loud, but apparently I have to. We're still working on what's going to happen to her. Things like this might make her good options slim down."

"Things like what?" Bucky yelled, finally dropping the polite act he was trying. "Steve, come on. I helped her. She wasn't talking to anyone and refused to move from the damn corner. You know what she did when I got in there? She opened up. She got cleaned up and slept in the bed instead of in the corner."

"It could've ended badly, Buck, and you know that. You knew that risk going in and you're lucky it didn't pan out that way," Steve said, not getting quite as mad or as loud as Bucky had just been.

Bucky sighed again, this time not caring if he was too loud. "Steve, I knew that. I knew that risk when I decided to give her a chance. And you know what? It worked. She told me her name- it's (Y/n). She took her first shower in god knows how long. She slept in a bed!"

Steve sighed now, realizing it wasn't a great idea to start with the 'Captain' demeanor. "Okay, let me try again," he says quietly. It's like Buck can see the man reset before he speaks again. "I know you mean well. You always mean well, you do. I just, and I'm sorry for this, I assumed she'd recognize the other guy first. I didn't want that to happen for her, but I also knew that wouldn't been good for you. I figured... avoiding her would keep that from happening."

And Bucky understood. Steve always had the best intentions at heart. They've known each other for several decades, so they know what could make or break each other.

The brunet smiled and clapped a hand on the blond's shoulder. "I know, man. I appreciate you always looking out for me. But... it didn't go that way and I want to keep building off of that. If she can grow out of the shell Hydra shoved her into, maybe the Council will see things our way."

His hand fell and Steve nodded. "You're right. I..." His eye line traveled from Bucky's eyes down to something just behind him.

When Bucky was about to turn and ask what it was, he felt someone gently touch his hand. "B-Bucky?" His head turned and looked down at your figure standing right there. Out of the room.

"Yeah, (Y/n)? What do you need?" he asked, his voice soft, and he contemplated kneeling down a bit as to not tower over you so much. You weren't a child, but you were still nearly a foot shorter than him.

He watched as you took in a shuddering breath, glancing at Steve, then back to him. "I, uh... food?" She held the note up- the one that Bucky left- and he didn't need anything else to get where she was going.

"Of course, do you want to go to the kitchen or do you want me to bring food to you?" he asked. The kitchen might be too open for her and this was all about getting her to break that shell open.

She looked down, her eyebrows drawn together in thought, then looked back up at him. "K-kitchen," she stuttered, the word newer.

With a smile, Bucky nodded. "Of course. There might be others, but you don't have to talk to them if you don't want to," Bucky reassured.

The girl thought again, and then nodded. The hand she had used to get Bucky's attention was still carefully sitting on his hand, so he carefully held it. Steve stepped out of the way as the two started to walk down to the kitchen.

Luckily, it was on the same floor. They just had to walk down a few yards and they made it to their destination. And just like Bucky warned, there were a couple other people already in the kitchen.

One was Wanda, who caught the pair with her eyes quickly and understood the situation. The other was Thor, who wasn't as quick to pick up on those sorts of things. The former quickly walked over to Thor and whispered something to him. He nodded, then looked over and smiled at the pair.

"Good morning," Thor greeted, his usually booming voiced dropped down a few notches in volume. (Y/n) smiled a small smile, looking between Thor and Wanda. Wanda didn't say anything, just smiled back.

Bucky appreciated their efforts, giving them both a grateful smile. Then, he decided it was time to focus on food. "Do you know what you like?" he asked, not very confident she would.

He was right. She shook her head and Bucky thought. There was always the foods he enjoyed when he escaped Hydra, maybe he could start with that.

There was an island in the middle of the kitchen, stools on one side where people usually sat to enjoy their meal. Bucky led her over to those stools. "How about you sit here? I can grab you some food."

She thought for a second, looking at the stools. Then she nodded. Bucky helped her get up onto the stool and moved over to the refrigerator. Wanda and Thor were still in the kitchen, grabbing some food of their own.

Thor hesitated in the pantry, then made a last second decision to grab a box out of it. "Would the young maiden like to try and Pop Tart?" he asked, his voice still low, holding the box out for Bucky and (Y/n) to see.

(Y/n) looked at with curiosity, which Bucky saw. He nodded to Thor and the man smiled brightly. Bucky grabbed a plate from one of the cabinets and let Thor set a pair of Pop Tarts on it.

Now, Bucky figured he needed to balance the sugar out with some fruits. He had a silent victory in his head when he saw the bowl of ripe plums in the fridge. Pulling out those and some other containers of fruit, he went about getting it set up.

For the next few minutes, Bucky got fruit prepared for (Y/n), Thor sat and made very quiet conversation with her (mainly consisting of him telling her some stories of Asgard while she listened with excitement), and Wanda grabbing some toast for her to try- just one piece as to not overwhelm her with too many options.

Bucky moved the completed plate of for to in front of (Y/n) and smiled. He had his own plate of fruit he'd snack off of. "There you go. All of it is finger food, too," he said.

In hopes to make this less awkward, Bucky kept up some light conversation while (Y/n) carefully tried everything on her plate.

By the end of her 'meal' she learned she liked Pop Tarts, plums, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and some of the blueberries. The rest of the blueberries were too mushy for her taste.

She pushed her plate away from her slightly and placed her elbows on the counter. By the sparkle in her eyes, Bucky put together that she was feeling much more comfortable and might have a certain fascination with a certain God of Thunder.

"Did you like it?" Bucky asked. (Y/n) nodded with a pretty big smile on her face- the biggest yet. "What do you want to do now?"

Her smile stayed as she tilted her head and thought. "To listen to Thor's stories," she answered and looked over at the blonde god.

The rest of the day was spent with Wanda, Bucky, and Thor sitting and taking turns telling (Y/n) stories. Others would come into the kitchen every now and then, but no one seemed to make her too uncomfortable.

Bucky caught Steve's eye at one point, the latter standing a few feet behind (Y/n). Steve nodded with a smile, and Bucky understood he was happy with how she was adjusting nicely to being out of Hydra. He continued on his way after a second.

Throughout their time in the kitchen, Bucky also got (Y/n) to eat a small lunch and dinner. She looked happier with each meal- something Bucky understood all too well- and continued to get out of her shell.

He only hoped she'd be able to stay with them.

(Unbeknownst to him, Natasha, Tony, and Rhodey were coming back to the tower with smiles on their faces.)
