Bucky Barnes-For Me
Warning: some possible angsty shit coming at ya and swearing.
41. "You can't just sit on the sidelines your whole life!"
42. "Times up!"
67. "We missed our chance."
Things were different around here now, the tension and distance of old friends had taken a toll on everyone, even you. But the split between the Avengers didn't hurt the most, it was Bucky.
After Bucky had lost his metal arm, he willingly left with Steve to Wakanda to get it fixed, along with extracting whatever was left of Hydra in his mind. It would take some time, months of cryofreeze and months of looking at your loved one behind a frozen door. Bucky didn't know that know, nor would he ever know, but that doesn't mean you can't tell him.
You just won't.
Even after the months of being under ice, Bucky still wasn't the same. T'Challa had gotten rid of any laying waste that was embedded in Bucky's mind, he couldn't understand why the Winter Soldier was acting strange. It pained you to see him like this.
Once you had brought him back to headquarters, things shifted for the team, at least what was left of it. Clint, Sam, and Wanda welcomed Bucky back with open arms, despite his past. Scott had left and gone back home to Cassie after he was broken out of prison. Even if Bucky was surrounded by his friends and team members, he still didn't feel right. He had everything he wanted, friends, a team, people who understood his past, and Steve. All he was missing was the girl.

It was finally time, you had a mission and you were damn glad to finally get out. The Watch Dogs were a new terrorist organization, they killed any and all inhumans. Steve needed everyone on this mission, but Bucky wasn't complying.
"Come on Buck, we need you on this." You were standing in his room, arms crossed over your chest to look more confident. Bucky's elbows were rested on his knees, his head hung low to where his long hair covered his face.
"No Y/N." You heard his voice, it was low, showing no sign of emotion. This only made you frustrated, he was being irrational about all of this. He needed to get back out in the world sometime.
"Don't give me that Bucky, it's time you get back out there. You're an Avenger, it's your job to save lives."
"I'll save lives from here, you go, I'll take over operations control." Closing your eyes you inhaled deep breaths, desperately trying to rid the anger from your body, but deep breaths weren't cutting it.
"You can't just sit on the sidelines your whole life!" Bucky flinched when you yelled, he hated it when you were upset, especially if he was the one to make you upset. He almost wanted to apologize for saying no, and for staying behind, but he didn't trust himself out there yet. If T'Challa was wrong, he didn't want to hurt you if he was to somehow fall under the spell of Hydra.
If he killed you, he wouldn't be able to live with himself.
"I want you to leave Y/N."
"No. Now you listen to me James, you need to get back out there! How will you know if you're ready if you're not fighting-" Then in one split second, you were pushed roughly against the wall, your head making contact and you could have sworn your head cracked open. Your e/c eyes met Bucky's cold blue ones, his chest was rising and falling rapidly while he kept a hold on your shoulders.
"Leave!" His yell echoed in the room and pierced your eardrums, but you could care less. Letting out a shaky breath you closed your eyes for a moment and swallowed the lump in your throat.
"I'm sorry." With that you left and slammed the door behind you. The tears had begun to fall and you were ashamed for letting yourself get so attached to someone who didn't love you back. While in the meantime Bucky was asking himself why he pushed away the only woman he has ever loved.

"Are you ready for this Y/N?" Steve was currently slipping on his brown gloves, making sure it clapsed perfectly to his hand. "I've been ready for this Rogers, are you ready?" Turning to look at him, you had a small smirk playing on your lips, which he returned back. Together you both jumped out of the plane together and let yourselves fall.
After spotting the city below, you and Steve pulled your parachutes, slowly drifting to the building you were supposed to be located at.
"What does it look like inside Buck?" Steve's voice sounded from your comms as you had your gun at the ready for any Watch Dogs that were to show up. "Ten men on the fourth floor. I'm reading signals of inhumans inside, looks like a hostage situation."
"We're going to need more backup."
"Well if someone hadn't stayed behind to do something a level one agent could do, we wouldn't need to be asking for more backup." You snapped over the comms, and you could picture Bucky rolling his eyes right now. Cocking the gun back, you also pulled out a knife from your back pocket and held it in your hand.
"Stop, we don't have time for this. Y/N go and rescue the Inhumans, we'll rendezvous on the southeast corner for extraction." With a nod you entered the building and clicked on the flashlight that was attached to your handgun.
As you descended down the stairs, you could hear shouting and cages slamming shut, followed by the screams of an Inhuman. It pained you to hear their cries, you were one of them, you has powers of your own. You never let that side of you show though, for the sake of keeping your identity a secret.
Once you reached the second level where the inhumans had been held captive in, you turned the doorknob only to find it unlocked. Then you looked inside, what you saw, you wanted to scream.
Inhumans were tied to chains, locked up in cages, some in chairs to where you saw electricity pulsing through their mind. You noticed a few limp bodies in the corner of the room, and you had to stop yourself from going to the dead, ans focus on rescuing the ones who were still alive.
"Come on, let's get you out of here." They were relieved that someone had come to save them, they would have ended up like the others.
The Inhumans had thanked you as they passed you, going towards the exit on their own. Clint and Wanda had already been waiting at the quinjet for the Inhumans to arrive.
Once you watched the last one walk out of the door, your legs had started to move and they were walking towards the dead bodies. You had a small amount of hope that they were still alive, but your question was answered when you checked their pulses only to find nothing.
"Hello sweetheart." Someone said from behind you, and before you could react, you felt the impact of the gun connect with your head, blacking out instantly.

"What do you mean she's gone?!" Bucky's fist connected with the metal lockers, a way to release all of the built up anger he had inside of him. Steve had only returned an hour ago with the bad news that you had been taken, the Watch Dogs destroyed any and all evidence of them ever being their at the building. The Watch Dogs took you with them, and once Steve realized, he was too late.
"They took her Buck, I was too late. I hadn't realized that she was gone, I'm sor-"
"You're dame right you better be sorry Steve! Y/N is out there right now god knows where and god knows what they are doing to her!" Bucky had a feeling, a terrible feeling that you were dead. He knew of your powers, the Watch Dogs would do anything to have you killed. What angered him the most was that he let you down, you wanted him to come on the mission yet he stayed behind. He should have been there with you.
"We need to find her Steve, she can't...she can't die." Bucky looked up to see Steve already looking at him, and never had Steve seen Bucky on the verge of tears, let alone cry. "Please."
"Bucky, we don't even know where to start-"
"I got it! I found her, she's at an abandoned warehouse in Orlando." Clint came bustling through the doors with a tablet in his hand, showing that he in fact had found Y/N.
"That was fast." Steve mumbled before looking at the screen himself.
"I had help from an old friend."

"Were is the facility located?" One of the men from the Watch Dogs asked, he had a gun pointed at you and behind you, you could hear the time countdown. Licking your already bruised lips, you gave him a weak smile.
"Go to hell you piece of shit." Then came a punch to your nose, you heard the crack ring in your ears and it made you uneasy.
"Fuck you!" And again you were beaten, tortured, they were breaking you down in the quickest way possible. But all of a sudden they stopped, you heard the timer go off from behind you and your heart started to race. You desperately tried to get yourself free from the bindings, but it was to late.
"Times up!" The man in front of you clicked off the safety and pointed it at you one more, then just as you heard the doors bust open, you turned your head to lock eyes with Bucky, then a gunshot went off.
"Y/N!"
Bucky watched as your head went limp, blood was running down the chair and your stomach had the bullet embedded in your skin. Everything seemed to run in slow motion, Bucky's mind was clouded, hearing the gun shot go off again and again, and he watched you get shot over and over. His greatest fear was coming true, you were dying, or already dead.
Behind Bucky came Clint and Wanda who had already begun to attack the Watch Dogs.
Taking the knife from his gear, Bucky ran over to you and cut the rope that held you down on the chair. He could hear feint, short and ragged breaths from you and noticed your chest moving rapidly. "Stay with me Y/N, you hear me?!"
Bucky pulled you down to the floor and placed his hands over your wound, holdind and keeping pressure to make sure you stay alive longer.
Your tired eyes looked into his and saw fear and panic.
"I don't think I can make it Buck."
"Don't say that doll, w-we have time. Steve is-he's on his way." Bucky pushed your hair behind your ear and smiles down at you.
"I-I need to say something, just...just in case." Shaking his head, Bucky cupped the side of your face. "No, no Y/N that won't happen."
"I...I l-love you James."
"I love you too Y/N, I'm going to get you outta here. Just please, please don't leave me."
They were both in tears now, you were saying goodbye and he was pleading for you to stay alive. You couldn't hold on though.
"We missed our chance."
Those were the last words that slipped past your lips, and as Bucky watched you die in his arms, his whole world came crashing down. You told him you loved him, that's what he's always wanted. He just wished to spend the rest of his life with you, together.
-so was this heartbreaking? I had a hard time trying to finish this lol. I was in an emotional mood yesterday and today I'm happy but freezing. So that's why it sucka towards the end. Also this is the longest imagine I have ever written!
