Jessica

Jessica basically replaces Peggy but with a couple tweaks to the story. If you haven't guessed it's a romance between Steve Rogers and Jessica Swan.

"Come on Steve it'll be fun. I've even got you a date." Bucky said as he attempted to persuade his bestfriend to come out with him on a double date that night. He was starting to worry for his friend, he barely went out and did anything. Bucky on the other hand was a social butterfly, a ladies man.

"I'm sure she won't like me." Steve countered as he busied himself around his apartment, Bucky following behind him.

"Aw come on Steve, you don't know that." Bucky said as he put a hand on his friends shoulder to stop him from moving away.
"Look I'll pay for your meal and drinks, you just need to look nice and show up." He pleaded as Steve turned to face him, both hands on his shoulders now. Steve sighed and pulled out of Bucky's grip.

"Fine." He huffed out. "But this is the last time." He added pointing a finger at Bucky in warning. Bucky nodded excitedly as he headed for the door to Steve's apartment.

"You won't regret it." He said gleefully as he took off from Steve apartment heading down the complex's stairs. "Be ready at 6!" He added as he reached to ground, waving goodbye excitedly. Steve sighed and smiled as his friend disappeared around the corner.

As six o'clock rolled around Steve found himself getting more and more nervous, this always happened when Bucky organised something like this, which he tried to do often. He knew his friend meant well but Steve didn't know how many more disappointed looks and polite declines he could take. Girls were hard to understand.
Steve was pulling on his jacket when Bucky knocked on his door.

"You ready Steve?" Bucky questioned excitedly as Steve locked his apartment behind him.

"As I'll ever be." He said as he and Bucky began walking down the street, the restaurant only being down the road.

"You'll like her." Bucky said to Steve as they approached the restaurant, though he'd never actually met his date's friend.

"I don't think that'll be the issue." Steve said as he noticed two girls laughing together outside the restaurant, one blonde and one redhead. The redhead turned and noticed Bucky.

"Bucky!" She called out waving excitedly at him. The blond turned and Steve and her made eye contact, and instead of the look of disappointment that usually followed, she smiled brightly. As the two guys made it to the waiting women Steve noticed the blonde had two different coloured eyes. One was blue and the other green.

"Bucky this is Jessica Swan. Jessica this is Bucky Barnes." The redhead said as Bucky smiled at the two girls. Jessica shook Bucky's hand before turning to Steve.

"And you are?" She questioned with a smile as she held out her hand. Steve momentarily forgot his name as he shook the beautiful womans hand.

"Ah, Rogers S-Steve, Steven Rogers." Steve stuttered out in correction. Bucky chuckled next to him and Steve shot him a glare.

"It's nice to meet you Steve." Jessica replied with a giggle.

"I'm Susie." Susie said as she shook Steve's hand quickly before returning her attention to Bucky.

"Well, shall we?" Bucky asked as he offered his arm to Susie who clung to him as the entered the restaurant. Steve stood there nervously as Jessica looked at him with an expectant smile. Steve hesitantly held out his arm.
"Ma'am?" He questioned shyly. Jessica giggled.

"Yes thank you. And please call me Jess." Jessica said as she happily linked her arm through his as they followed after Bucky and Susie. They all sat down at the table and ordered. They chatted for a while and Bucky noticed Jessica seemed to really like Steve and he felt proud that his friend might have finally found someone.

"Hey Steve let's get the ladies a drink shall we?" Bucky suggested as he stood and pulled Steve up with him.

"Alright." Steve stuttered out as Jessica smiled up at him.

"Thanks boys." She said as the two guys walked towards the bar. The girls began chatting as the boys ordered.

"I think she really likes you Steve." Bucky said as he subtly gestured to the girls at the table. Steve looked back to find both girls laughing at something said.

"Do you really think so?" Steve asked nervously. He was starting to like her too the more he learnt about her.

"Definitely man." Bucky said as two of their drinks were placed in front of them on the bench. Steve looked back at Jessica again to find her looking at him. She blushed and quickly looked away as he caught her eyes. He smiled slightly to himself. The other two drinks arrived and the boys carried two over each.

"Here you go Doll." Bucky said as he gave Susie her drink. Steve handed Jessica hers.

"Thanks Steve." She said as she sipped it. Suddenly a song Jessica new began to play and a couple people got up to dance slowly. A thought crossed her mind and she smiled.

"Steve, dance with me." Jessica asked as she stood holding a hand out to Steve. He looked up at her shocked.

"I can't dance." He answered nervously as he took her offered hand anyway, standing.

"I'll teach you." She said smiling. "Mind our stuff?" She asked looking at Bucky and Susie.

"Sure." Bucky said smirking as he and Susie went back to talking.

"Just put your hand here." Jessica said as she placed Steve's hand on her waist, Steve gulped nervously and Jessica just smiled at his shyness. She took his other hand in hers and they swayed slowly to the music.

"See it's not so hard." She said as she smiled at him. Their eyes even as they were the same height.

"Step aside." A man's voice said to Steve. The two stopped dancing to face the tall handsome man in an army uniform.

"A lady like you needs a really man." The man said to Jessica with a charming smile.

"I have one thank you very much." Jessica said with a scowl as she pulled Steve by the hand back to their table. She huffed as she sat down.

"What happened?" Bucky questioned as he noticed Steve's crestfallen face and Jessica's annoyance.

"Some douche being rude to us." Jessica answered as she rolled her eyes with a sigh. She smiled and struck up conversation deciding it wasn't worth dwelling on.

Steve stood up and left the group of three and walked to sit on a bench by himself outside the restaurant. Jessica noticed and stopped talking as the she made eye contact with Bucky before getting up and following after him sitting down beside him in the cool night air.

"Did you know that what we see in space is years behind what's already happened. Some of these stars might have supernovered already. It's like we're looking into the past." Jessica said as she looked up at the stars shining brightly in the sky. Steve smiled at her and she returned it. They sat in silence a little longer.

"Can I ask you question?" Steve asked as he looked at his hands in his lap.

"Of course." She said as she nodded.

"What do you see in me, I'm not anything special." He asked hesitantly. Jessica was taken aback and a little confused before it struck her. What the guy had said had hurt him.

"Of course you are. You're sweet, considerate, generous and kind. You're also brave. Even though you don't have the muscle you're never afraid to fight for what you believe in, even when you know you can't win. That's admirable, and I'd say it makes you special." She said with a smile as she bumped his shoulder with hers.

"How'd you know that?" Steve asked confused as he looked at Jessica. Jessica chuckled.

"I've seen you in a few allys as Bucky comes to your rescue." She said chuckling. Steve looked at her in disbelief before looking back down at his lap.

"Some might say it makes me stupid." He countered quietly.

"But I wouldn't." She said as they made eye contact. Jessica smiled and Steve briefly returned it before doubt caught him again.

"But you're beautiful and you could have any man. I-I don't look as nice as the other guys. I mean look at Buck, he's strong, he's tall. That's the man you should go for." Steve said sadly as he looked back down at his hands.

"I don't judge people by their covers, I mean, I have no right too, otherwise how can I not expect people to do the same to me." Jess said as she gripped Steve's hand. He looked up at her in shock as she smiled at him.

"I think you're fine just the way you are." She added as she pulled out the small packet of wipes she kept in her purse. She then proceeded to remove her makeup. Steve just watched on in confusion. Until she had removed all her makeup and turned to face him again.

A harsh, red scar was now visible. It ran from above her eyebrow to half way down her cheek, running through her one blue eye. She smiled at Steve as he cautiously reached a hand up to her face. He looked into her eyes asking for permission. She nodded smiling softly. Steve gently brushed his thumb over the scar. Jessica closed her left eye as Steve gently followed the scar over her closed eyelid and down to the end of it, on her cheek.

"How'd you get it?" Steve asked as she opened her eye again and he retracted his hand.

"Mugged and assaulted on the street one night two years ago when I was walking home from my job." She said with a sigh as she stared off into space for a couple seconds.

"I can't see out of it." She said as she gestured to her left eye, light blue compared to her bright green, right eye.

"I'm so sorry." Steve said as he looked at her with sad eyes. Jessica sighed and smiled softly.

"It's okay, it's in the past now." She said as she took both of Steve's hands in her own.

"Do you like me less because of my scar, my impurity or my different coloured eyes?" She asked with a soft smile. Steve looked apauled.

"Never." He said as he gripped her hands tightly.
"I think you're beautiful." He said. Jessica smiled brightly at him.

"You never know where someone is coming from or why they're the way they are." She said as she smiled at him softly.
"And I think you're quite the catch yourself." She added as she beamed at him. Steve blushed lightly.

Jessica pulled him to stand as they smiled at each other. Steve looked hesitant for a second before he leaned in and quickly pecked Jessica's cheek. She smiled and blushed lightly.

"Let's go back to the others." She said as they walked back into the restaurant hand in hand.

"Where did you two sneak off to?" Bucky questioned with a smirk as he noticed their intertwined hands as the two sat back down at the table.

"Just went to get some fresh air." Steve said as he smiled shly at Jessica. Jessica simply grinned in return. Bucky smiled at the pair as Susie pulled on his arm.

"Bucky can we dance now?" Susie asked excitedly as a new song started.

"Of course." Bucky said giving a charming smile. The two took to the dance floor as Steve and Jessica stayed seated talking all evening.
