Finding Home

Sequel to Running From Me.

Hope and Bucky are at a new page in their stories trying to forget what Hydra put them through and figure out who they are to themselves and each other. But when Bucky gets the blame for a terrorist bombing the two are thrown into more trouble than they bargened for.

Based around Captain America: Civil War

"I'm back Buck." I called into our small apartment as I hung my coat on the hook in the wall, switching the grocery's in my arms from hand to hand as I pulled off my coat. This was the fourth apartment we had lived in, this time Texas, in the hopes that the constant change of location would help keep us a step ahead of Hydra, Shield and who ever else wanted us.

"I'm just here." He grunted in reply as I walked past the small front entry into the room that held our mattress on the floor, it was also our dining room, lounge room (without a lounge) and was connected to the kitchen. Yeah it was small.

"You get it working yet?" I asked as I watched him tinker with the back of the old TV, as I placed the paper bags on the bench. I chuckled as I leant against the bench watching him struggle to get the TV to work.

"I think it's gone. You can't bring back the dead Buck." I said laughing as he turned to look at me with a deadpan look.

"It's not dead." He said in defence as he turned around, and continued to work. I chuckled again as I began to unpack the grocery's. I pulled out a bag of plums and bit into one keeping it in my mouth as I handed one to Bucky, tapping him on the shoulder and passing it to him.

"Thanks doll." He said as he smiled at me. I smiled around the plum stuck to my mouth and he laughed at me. I bit off a piece and ate it. Boy how I had missed food while in Hydra's care. Just cause I didn't need it, didn't mean I didn't want it. All the flavours I had missed.

"I'm gonna make curry for dinner, that alright." I asked as I pulled out the fresh vegetables and ingredients for the sauce, putting what I didn't need in the fridge.

"That is more than alright." Bucky said into my shoulder as he wrapped his arms around my waist. He gently placed a kiss on my neck, slowly swaying me side to side. I smiled loving our little moments, as I placed my hands over his, which rested, arms criss cross, over my stomach. I looked down at our hands and the twin gold bands that adorned our left ring fingers.
We weren't married at least not officially, but in our hearts we were. The rings were stolen of course, by Bucky who randomly came home with them and said lets be married. Not particularly romantic but special none the less.

"Alright I gotta cook." I said as I pulled from his grasp, he let me go and rested against the bench behind me, just content in watching me work.

"What would I do without you?" He said smiling as I quickly and skillfully cut the vegetables into even pieces.

"I donno, starve?" I said chuckling. He laughed lightly with me. We were silent again as I continued to cook.

"Do you think you did this often in your past?" He asked gently. I stopped cutting and turned to face him. He was looking at the ground as we stood in silence for a couple seconds. I sighed.

"I don't know. But it doesn't feel like I did. I think when they gave me the serum it changed me in so many different ways, I don't think I ever had a photographic memory or could learn a language as quick as I did with Sign Language." I said as I turned back to what I was doing. There was silence again.

"Do you ever wanna know who you were before all of this?" He asked softly. I turned to face him again, as he looked up at me with vulnerability. My face softened.

"Sometimes. Where is this all coming from?" I asked softly. "What's bothering you?" I asked as I cupped his face in my hands, looking at him with love and compassion. He looked down but grabbed my hips bringing me closer.

"I had a dream last night. Or maybe it was a memory." He started as he looked back up at me. "I was fighting on a moving vehicle, a train I think. And there, there were these men shooting at me and Captain America was there. And I-I remember falling." I brushed his long hair behind his ear, as his eyes filled with unshed tears, as he became confused and lost.

"Hey it's okay." I said as I pulled him into a hug he greatfully returned. "It's about time we had a change of scenery, it's been too quiet for too long." I said as I slowly pulled away. "And I can figure out who gave me this." I added as I held up my right hand to reveal the silver ring on my middle finger, the engravings visible in the afternoon sun. Bucky smiled.

"Thank you." He said as he hugged me again.

"For what?" I asked with a chuckle as I went back to cooking.

"For cooking dinner, being so beautiful," He said as he stood beside me and brushed some of my dark hair behind my ear. "And for staying with me, and loving me." He said as he came in between me and the counter top, holding my hips. I looked up at him with a raised brow.

"If you keep this up dinner wont ever be done." I warned as I pointed my sharp kitchen knife at his chest. Bucky smiled cheekily as he plucked the knife from my hand, and placed it on the bench, returning his metal hand to my waist. I sighed.

"I'm not really hungry." He said smiling. "At least not for dinner." He added smirking. I rolled my eyes and shook my head even though I was smiling.

"You charmer." I said as he picked me up and carried me to our bed.
