Chapter 5

—One Year and Seven Months after "The Decimation"—

Everybody was gathered in the library, waiting for Rhodey to appear. They went through three months of constant interviews with the media regarding about the same thing: the incident in Wakanda. There hasn't been a news station that hasn't covered the story.

Rocket was outside the library and inside the living room, where he was watching the news. Thor was leaning on the arch while watching the news as well. Steve, Bruce and Natasha were discussing about their latest interviews.

Rhodey entered the facility wearing a fine suit and dressed for a meeting. Thor smiled at Rhodey as he passed by him.

"Stop smiling. I have more money than you." Rhodey chuckled.

"I have more muscles than you." Thor muttered, looking at Rhodey as he went inside.

"So, why did you call me? Is there anything you need?" Rhodey asked.

"Yeah. We need the media off our asses." Steve said and Rhodey sighed. "Someone leaked the files about our battle in Wakanda."

"Someone leaked a file?!" Rhodey shouted, "I thought the battle was off the books. The only ones who should know about this are the president and vice-president. The military should see this as a unknown species invading Wakanda."

"Well they don't. They think it's another alien war that the Avengers suddenly got into." Natasha stayed. "The good thing is that they don't know the reason why we were there."

"But a few more good leads given to the media and they could find out that we were responsible for the disappearance of the entire universe."

"Look, I'll try to find that file. If I see it, I'll burn it and I'll tell you guys. For now, just lay low." Rhodey looked at the windows, "You guys are too obvious here. Might want to board up the windows."

"Yeah..." Bruce leaned back, "F.R.I.D.A.Y. has it covered."

"Good." Rhodey got his phone out, "I'll be late for a meeting."

"Guys! You might want to see this." Rocket shouted from the living room.

"Rocket, we don't have time for your damn TV shows." Steve placed his hand over his face.

"No, this is serious." Thor said, looking at them. The four heroes gathered near Rocket and watched the TV.

"Look at that," Rocket pointed at shots of Wakanda, "Nine are found dead in Wakanda. They also seem to have gotten into the archives."

"This may be how they got the leak." Rhodey muttered. "I'll go to Wakanda after my meeting."

"And hear this." Rocket said, as the news switched to an active crime scene in Japan, "There is a vigilante in Japan who goes by the name of Ronin. Has quite the amount of kills."

"Kills?" Steve asked, showing some concern when looking at Rocket.

"This isn't his first rodeo. He has more than fifteen crime scenes that we know. The wounds they sustain are from a sword."

"This isn't our worry, Rocket. Our worry is Wakanda." Natasha said, and looked at Steve, "I'll go to Wakanda, Rhodey. So we could make this faster. Your suit isn't craving some of Wakanda right now."

"No, Thor and I will go." Bruce said, placing his watch on, "We need three who can watch over the facility. We don't know if the guy from Wakanda is walking around."

"I'll go too." Rocket said, and Thor nodded, "It's about time I got off my ass."

—Space—

Tony was sitting in his room and writing on his journal that he found on Drax's bed. He had been writing for over ten months now. The book was full of letters for Pepper. Everyday he would dream about her. Their future. What it could have been if he never went to space.

Those dreams are currently dead. Tony is in space and has no hope for going home. He is afraid their water and food supply would run out in the next five months. Referring to the past one year and a half, they have barely gotten close to Earth. They don't even know where they are.

"They" means him and Nebula. They haven't made the best team. They don't even consider each other a team. Tony would like to call it "situational partners." Nebula has went outside of space but it was to search for any signals of nearby planets. In the one year she has been doing that, zero signals have come across her.

The ship was running out of oxygen as well. The hit that the ship received from Titan was a large blow. They could still man the ship but its speed isn't as fast as when Quill used it.

There is a small chance either one of them would make it through another year. Tony is fearing he would never see Pepper again. Once he was finished with his letter, he looked forward. Nebula was there, sharpening her sword.

He wondered if she was scared for her life. Maybe she was used to it. Tony just ignored it for now. He'll found out soon before he drifts away.

But for now, he had to stay alive. Tony stood up and walked over to Nebula. She looked up to him and gave him a confused face.

"This is weird but... you want to play?" Tony suggested.

"What?" Nebula asked back.

"I got some paper there. We'll see what we can do." Tony sighed, "Just... if you want to play, just go to me."

Tony walked over to the map station in the middle of the ship, and sat on one side. He looked at the paper, which was flat and blank. He folded it into a thick triangle and felt proud of himself. He made another one just in case Nebula wanted to play.

Nebula shyly approached Tony, looking around cluelessly. She sat opposite of Tony and looked at him curiously. Tony formed a sort of goal with his hands and gave the paper triangle to Nebula.

"Basically, you flick the paper towards my goal. Three rounds, alright?"

"I am unfamiliar on how to flick this paper." Nebula stated, holding the paper in the air.

"Look I'll show it." Tony said. "Also, make this position."

Nebula followed Tony's hand positions and waited for him to attack. Tony flicked the paper towards Nebula, who aggressively slapped it out of the air. Tony reacted by also putting his hands up. He pointed at her.

"You don't need to do that." Tony said. "Because uh... you're just holding the position."

Nebula nodded. She grabbed the paper triangle and flicked it just like Tony. It hit Tony's right arm and fell out of Tony's goal.

"That was close." Tony said.

Nebula tried a few more times and managed to get it into Tony's goal.

"That's a goal." Tony said, "We are now tied one a piece.

"I would like to try again." Nebula stated.

Tony and Nebula started exchanging misses and makes and both of them were actually having fun with each other. After Nebula scored, Tony got his paper triangle.

"We're tied up." Tony reminded and Nebula smiled, excited. "Feel the tension? It's fun."

Tony flicked his paper triangle which missed horribly.

"That was terrible. Now you have a chance to win."

Nebula grabbed the paper triangle and focused on her aim. She flicked it hard and it flung high in the air before landing into Tony's goal.

"And you won." Tony smiled. Nebula shifted backwards in shock. She had never won anything. When she was against Gamora, she would always lose. She felt a mixed feeling inside of her. "Fair game." Tony extended his hand, "Congratulations. Good sport."

"That was fun." Nebula muttered.

The ship suddenly started shaking. It was stopping at times but it was shaking. Tony stopped Nebula from standing up.

"I'll take care of it." Tony smiled at her and went to the engine.

Tony went towards the engine room and opened the hatch below. He went into it and started fixing it. As he started using the tools, he couldn't find his wrench. It was especially hard finding it because the ship continuously shook. He found the wrench under a black jacket and started fixing the screws that were continuously unscrewing itself.

After a few more minutes, the ship stopped moving. Tony sighed in relief, and sat on the hatch opening. There was a sudden coldness that surrounded the ship. He grabbed the jacket on the ground and started wearing it. He felt something in the pocket. It was the same jacket he was wearing on Earth.

He pulled a picture out of his pocket of him and Peter. It was after Peter got his supposed "Stark Internship." Tony breathed heavily, looking at the picture. A single tear fell out of his eye, and he wiped it quickly.

"I promise, kid. I'll bring you back." Tony shivered. He dipped his head towards the picture, "Why did it have to be you." Tony stopped tears from flowing. "It could've been me." He leaned on the wall, "But it was you. Damn it."

—Avengers Headquarters—

Steve and Natasha were sitting in the living room, waiting for the group to return from Wakanda. They had left six hours ago and they should've been back by now. Their ship could travel the whole globe in two hours so getting to Wakanda would be a quick trip. Maybe they were enjoying the lovely sights of what used to be a fully-working Wakanda.

TV hasn't helped the pair either. The news was usually showing "Avengers involved in Wakanda invasion," or something similar to that. They just hoped that the media would never get close to the truth.

"So, it's been one year and a half since the battle in Wakanda and we still don't have information on how to bring the others back." Steve sighed and Natasha just looked at him, "We don't even know where Thanos is. The bastard."

"My best bet is somewhere that is peaceful. We still don't know a lot about him besides that he is very violent and he wiped out half the universe." Natasha said, "Maybe he has spot in him which is peaceful."

"We don't know." Steve said. "We still have another ship in the hangar right?"

"Yeah, why?"

"If they aren't back in two hours, we should go to Wakanda." Steve suggested, "They could be killed by now."

"If they are killed, they would be showing that in the news by now."

Suddenly they heard a beeping sound somewhere in the facility. They thought that an intruder may have entered but F.R.I.D.A.Y. started speaking.

"Mr. Rogers, you may want to see this." F.R.I.D.A.Y. informed.

A video footage came out of the TV and it showed a van parked on front of the garage. A familiar person went outside of the van and looked into the camera.

"Hi, uh... is anyone home?" The person asked looking at the camera. "This is Scott Lang. We met a few years ago at the airport in Germany."

Natasha and Steve got out of their seats, confused at the message.

"That's the front door." Natasha muttered, watching the video.

"I got really big." Scott chuckled a bit while saying that.

"Is this an old message?" Steve asked, looking at Natasha. She waved her head and continued watching.

"Ant-Man? Ant-Ma-I-uh... I know you know that." Scott laughed. "That's me. Can you bust me in?"
