Chapter 2
—Two Days after "The Decimation"—
Bruce sipped on some of his coffee that was laid for him on the table. He hasn't slept in the last twenty-four hours so he was nearing the end of his shift of working. His job was to find anybody useful and with 50% of the universe's population gone, it proved to be hard.
Every corner of the world has reported missing cases for victims. They stated that they turned into "dust". Nobody knew what happened in Wakanda and they thought it was a phenomenon. They didn't even know that the Avengers were a part of it.
Bruce was researching on the disappearance of Shuri who was last seen at the facility of Wakanda. He checked the camera footage of her running out of the facility but after that, she was gone. The protective shield of Wakanda had cameras all around, but there was no sign of her running out of the country in a three-hour period after the "Decimation".
"F.R.I.D.A.Y, you have to work with me. I need any facial recognitions of Shuri. Anything that comes close to her." Bruce said.
"Mr. Banner, I searched all cameras and Shuri did not walk out of Wakanda premises. The citizens of the country hasn't reported sightings of the Queen." She explained.
"There is no way that she could've walked out of Wakanda. She stepped out of the laboratory five minutes after the snap, so that means that she didn't disappear."
"Would you like me to replay that clip?"
"I've seen it too many times. Shut off videos. I need some information." Bruce places his cup of coffee down and stretched his neck. "Stephen Strange."
"Missing. Last seen: New York. Known associates alive: Wong." She said.
"Place Wong on my to-do list. I'm going to give him a visit when I can." Bruce sighed, "Try Peter Parker."
"Missing. Last seen: New York. Known associates alive: May Parker, Pepper Potts, Happy Hogan."
"I need to give Ms. Potts some time. I don't want to break the news to Peter's aunt. Happy I have to ask." Bruce placed his hand on his mouth, groaning in frustration. "Scott Lang."
"Missing. Last seen: California. Known associates alive: none."
When Bruce heard it, he covered his entire face with his hand. He moaned in anger because all the people they needed were either dead or missing.
"Are there any distress signals put up by Tony?" Bruce asked.
"I'm afraid there are none, Mr. Banner. I lost connection to him a few days ago. Nobody has heard from him since."
"Any messages, F.R.I.D.A.Y?"
"Well, for now, Mr. Banner, he is considered missing. Last seen: New York."
"Goddamnit it." Bruce sighed and turned off the computer. While he was fixing his stuff, Rocket went inside the room.
"Any good news I can be expecting right now?" Rocket asked, holding a flower pot with dirt inside.
"What is that?" Bruce asked, throwing his cup of coffee in the trash can.
"I..." Rocket sniffed, "grabbed some of the branches from Thor's hammer to see if Groot would grow back. I'm just..."
"It's alright. I know what it feels like." Bruce leaned forward and patted him. "We'll find a way."
Rocket smiled a little and placed the flower pot on the table. Bruce grabbed his things and started to bring it to his room. Rocket sat on one of the lab chairs and started to look around the files.
There were so many things to look at. There were Project Insight, Project 59, Project Rainbow and so much more. There was a file placed deep in the memory. It showed that it was enacted on April of 2011. It was labelled as the "Avengers Initiative."
"Let's found out who you guys really are." Rocket muttered, expanding the file.
There were then videos and information basing on Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner, Thor, Natasha Romanoff, and Clint Barton. They were on the "most likely" list of people to join. There were some members that S.H.I.E.L.D. was looking for. Some workers who almost worked for them in 2011 was Namor, T'Challa, and someone in Las Vegas.
"What are you doing?" Natasha asked, walking in the room, "You're not allowed to use that."
"I wanted to see the people who I'll be working with." Rocket said, closing the file, "Who is Clint Barton. Didn't see him working with us back in Wakanda."
"He's presumed dead. I asked some workers to check his house and there were five dusted bodies. I'm assuming they all dusted." Natasha said with an angered tone.
"Look, I'm sorry if I'm not acting politely because everyone in the whole universe just lost someone they loved. It's hard to come back from this."
"We can't come back from this, Rocket. Have you heard the news? Everyone is fighting for resources."
"Which means everybody is shooting everybody." Rocket sighed, "I have to talk to Rogers."
"He's not here." Natasha said, closing the files.
"Where did he go?"
"He went to New York with Thor."
"For what purpose?"
"He said that they were going to a place called Sanctum Sactorum. A associate of Stephen Strange lives there."
—Sanctum Sactorum—
Thor knocked on the door of the Sactorum and waited for about five minutes they waited. Steve was wearing a casual attire instead of his nomad look. Thor was wearing the same armour he had worn the past few days.
"Are you holding up well?" Thor asked, with a frown forming on Steve's face.
"Lost my friends and a lot of casualties. I'm trying my best to hold up." Steve said softly.
Wong opened the door and looked at them with sorrow. He welcomed them in and saw that the Sanctum had damages in it; the stairs in particular.
"What happened here?" Thor asked, looking around.
"Besides your shenanigans during your last visit, your friend, Bruce Banner, placed a hole in our stairs." Wong explained. "By now, I know what happened in Wakanda. I have yet to have a message from Strange."
"Not a single one?" Steve asked, as they carefully moved around the stairs.
"Nothing." Wong answered. "He was taken by one of Thanos's associates. After that, I stayed here to protect the Sanctum from the outer forces."
"Is it alright if we continue to look around?" Steve asked.
"It is alright." Wong said, moving towards the library, "Just don't break anything else."
"Sure." Thor smiled.
Steve and Thor looked at the artifacts that could lead to the location of Strange. There was nothing that had a clue to Strange's location. All of the artifacts were just there for display or only Wong or Strange could use.
Not even a slight bit of information to where Tony is. That was a detail Steve ignored but Thor tried his best to find. Once they knew they couldn't find information on the space expedition, they decided to leave.
"Wong, thanks for letting us in." Steve smiled as they said their goodbye.
"You are welcomed to enter the Sanctum at anytime. Just knock." Wong smirked.
Steve and Thor left the building and as soon as Wong knew they were gone, he went to the meditating room. There were some candles set up and a beautiful fountain set up. Once he gained his focus, he started to hear him.
"They are gone, Strange. You can come back." Wong said.
Strange, in a astral form, came out of hiding, "Good. They should not know that I am here."
"They could use your help, Strange. They are desperate to get all of you back."
"I can't help you too much, Wong. We need Rogers and Stark in this dimension but they are not here. The future I saw showed that they could win, without us. We can't win without them." Strange explained.
"Very well, Strange. But remember, when I see that they lost all hope, I will be forced to tell your presence."
"Do that and both of our dimensions will fall to a fraction in reality." Strange sighed. "When will Scott get out of that time loop, dammit."
