Chapter 19
—Present—
Clint was crouching on a rooftop in New York, trying to shoot down the worms that were flying around. Carol was stopping the worms from entering the atmosphere. Rhodey was flying around the island to help Clint with the worms.
"I got about four worms going around New York." Clint said on the comms.
"I got the two in Harlem!" Rhodey said in the mic. "There are two worms right behind you, might as well draw them towards me."
"At least gives me less problems." Clint said. He looked into the sky and Carol was still destroying the worms with ease. "Hey Danvers, how are you holding up?"
"I'm fine. Just help Rhodey with the worms, please." Carol said, going through two worms.
"Well," Clint smiled when he heard footsteps behind him, "Looks like I have myself a little dance."
Clint turned around with his sword at hand, and placed the sword on the person's throat. When he realized who it was, he laid down his sword.
"You should be more careful, Stark." Clint exclaimed, placing his sword on his sides.
"Don't give a crap." Tony said, moving closer to the edge, "I checked the facility, you guys weren't there. Where are they?"
"Well, we went as plan but instead of you, it was Scott." Clint said, grabbing some arrows from his bag, "You planning on helping?"
"No, I'm planning on going with them." Tony said, grabbing an extra mic from his bag, "Rocket, do you copy?"
"Stark, glad to hear you." Rocket joked, "You have any more devices you want to be built?"
"Funny, Rocket. But not now. Do we have an extra time device?" Tony asked.
"Yeah, we have a prototype in the lab along with four extra hand straps. You're planning to go alone?" Rocket asked.
"I'm planning to go with Clint, actually." Tony said, "I guess I'll see you later."
"With me? No way in hell I'm going with you." Clint said.
"C'mon, Clint. I don't have a suit to go there with." Tony said, grabbing his bag and placed it on his shoulder. "And besides, it's going to be exciting this time around."
"They need me, Stark. I'm telling them the routes and the worms." Clint said.
"You can take him, Stark." Carol said loudly on the mic, "I think Rhodey and I can handle the worms."
"You've got to be kidding, Danvers." Clint muttered, "Fine, let's go, Stark."
"That's the spirit, Legolas." Tony joked, opening the stairway door.
"So, what timeline did they go to?" Clint asked as they went down the long and dark stairway.
"They went to the time Fury decided to do the Avengers Initiative." Tony explained, "So about the time after the ballroom fight."
—A few years before "The Decimation"–
The Avengers saw flashes of light and in a few seconds later, they were crashing through a thick forest. There were many rocks that managed to hit the ship. They were slowing down and they managed to not slide off a small cliff. They were about fifteen meters from falling from a great height.
The people inside were hurt. None of them sustained major injuries and the ship wasn't spilling any flammable material. Steve stood up and crawled out of the ship first. It was midnight and there were many birds flying away from the crash site. Scott was the second one to find a exit.
"What happened, Scott?" Steve asked, still shaking from the crash.
"Um," Scott breathed, "We traveled through four time vortexes. We were probably close to the speed of light."
"God," Steve muttered. He looked around and they were in the very thick forest. "What time period is this."
"Same thing you said." Scott said. "2012, a few days before the attack of New York."
"Yeah, doesn't seem like we ended up in the right place." Steve limped towards the ship and removed some debris.
Thor bursted out of the ship with Stormbreaker in hand. Without saying a word, he helped Steve lift some debris from the ship and that was where Natasha and Bruce stepped out.
"It would be useful if the Hulk was here." Natasha joked.
"Hey!" Bruce called. "I'm useful too."
"I prefer the Hulk, though, Banner." Thor voiced, as Bruce glanced at him with anger, "It doesn't mean that I don't like Bruce Banner."
"Fine. I guess I'll have to suck up to the fact that the Hulk is better than Bruce Banner the whole trip."
"Stop it," Steve calmly said, listening to the clouds. There were strong thunderstorms coming from the skies. "I think we are at the right place."
"Why? Should a hurricane be something we're happy about?" Scott asked.
"No," Steve smiled softly, "We're just about to witness a stand-off."
A bolt of lightning landed on a rock far away. From their point of view, there were two men standing on the mountain.
"Who are those two?" Thor asked, trying to get a better look behind Scott and Bruce.
"Isn't that how we got Loki, Thor?" Natasha asked, giving Thor a confused glance.
"That's right. I did get him from the ship." Thor remembered fondly now.
"So should we interrupt this or..." Scott said and waited for an answer.
"No, we're going to let this play out." Steve turned around and scanned the group, "Scott, you're with me. You three, we'll be back a few minutes after the shock."
The two heroes slowly made their way down the mountain and maneuvered around the forest. Suddenly a figure who seemed to be flying struck one of the people in the mountain and was carrying them through the forest.
"Who the hell is that?" Bruce asked, as the two figures came closer.
"Stark..." Thor said as he watched the two come nearer, "hit me."
Tony dragged Thor's face across the mountain and threw him towards the forrest. Thor, Scott, and Natasha continued to watch the two fight in the forest.
"Tony did that to you?" Bruce asked Thor who was still watching the fight.
"I... I don't recall that." Thor lied.
Meanwhile, in the forest, Scott and Steve we're slowly making their way towards the place where the three heroes would've met for the first time. There was a wide space near the center of the forest where Steve assumed the three would've met.
After a few minutes of waiting, the two figures crashed near Steve and Scott and remained in defense stance. A tree fell beside them as Tony tried to land a punch on Thor's face but failed. Thor managed to grab both of Tony's arms and squished them as hard as he could. Tony head butted Thor in the face, with Thor responding with a head butt of his own which sent Tony flying back.
"Damn." Scott muttered, enjoying the fight while Steve scoffed at his enjoyment.
Tony flew back at Thor and threw him towards a tree. Thor received some damage from the tree but got back on his feet in an instant and both charged towards each other. Tony and Thor exchanged blow after blow until Thor got the upper hand and grabbed Tony to only throw him towards the ground. Thor called upon Mjolnir and the hammer came back quickly. Before Thor could strike Tony, he used his thrusters to fly away and drop Thor on the ground. Tony came flying back with a strong punch and the two went to a defensive stance immediately.
"Hey!" A voice shouted from far away. A metal shield bounced off Thor and Tony and back to the owner. "That's enough!"
Steve dropped to the ground as the both provided different reactions. Tony was annoyed that he was interrupting a great fight and Thor was angry that no one understood his purpose.
"Now, I don't know what you plan on doing here-" Steve continued until he was interrupted by Thor.
"I came here to put an end to Loki's schemes." Thor replied.
"Then prove it." Steve convincingly said, "Put the hammer down."
"Uh-yeah... no. Bad call." Tony suggested. "He loves his-" Tony was knocked towards the side by a swing of Thor's hammer.
Tony landed on a tree far away where Steve and Scott were watching. He was incredibly close to the both of them that they moved slightly.
"Be quiet." Steve said, guiding Scott away from Tony.
"You want me to put the hammer down?!" Thor shouted in anger. Thor leaped towards Steve with Mjolnir ready for a strike. Steve covered himself with the shield and once the two objects met, a large shockwave went through the forest. Steve and Scott were knocked away further.
"What the hell?" Scott whispered, pain in his back.
After the shock, the three men stood in a circle, wondering what happened. Tony, the most confused, was exchanging glances between Steve and Thor.
"Are we done here?" Steve muttered to the two heroes.
Thor looked up to the mountain where he once was and saw Loki watching the three men battle it out.
"He started it." Tony whispered.
"Oh shut up!" Steve annoyingly said, "Let's get these two back on the Helicarrier."
