Chapter 12

—Two Years after "The Decimation"—

Steve was walking along with Carol outside the facility to show her around. There was almost nothing special to see inside the Avengers Headquarters but she wanted to see it anyways. Their argument from earlier seemed to have fizzled out earlier as they have already been talking nicely. Tony, however, went back to the lab to continue his work.

Once they were finished with their tour, the both of them walked outside and onto the balcony. They just watched the stars in the sky.

"So, World War II veteran, huh? Seems like you went through a lot." Carol said, still looking at the stars.

"I did. I lost some friends here and there." Steve sighed, "Even now. I'm still losing friends."

"If this is about Stark, I'm sure you two are still friends. You're just going through a hard time." Carol said. She saw Steve's mouth opening so she stopped him, "I know what happened in Sokovia. I know what made Stark snap. It was a good reason to snap, by the way."

"Well, we left our friendship in Siberia. Along with my shield." Steve said.

"Do you have any idea where it is? Because I'm pretty sure nobody is going to leave an artifact on a deserted island."

"Wherever it is, I miss it. I don't wear it anymore because... I don't fight for the meaning of it. I just fight because I want everyone to survive."

"Isn't that the meaning?" Carol asked and looked at Steve.

Steve shook his head, "I'm supposed to represent everything a good man does. But does a good man hide secrets?"

"Yes, a good man must hide secrets for the protection of others." Carol said, "Look at you and Tony before all of this. You hid a secret from him and there was nothing wrong."

"Hm..." Steve nodded, "Maybe you're right. Some good men do have to keep secrets to protect others. You're right there, Danvers."

"You should have met me back in 1995. I was quite the addict in giving advices." Carol winked.

"What do you mean..." Steve stopped when Carol smiled, "I can get my own women, Danvers."

"A WWII veteran who has never gotten a decent night. Such a poor bastard." Carol shook her head smiling.

"I got too many things to do. I don't have enough time to spend it on a woman."

"I highly doubt that." Carol chuckled, "But I'll respect your decision, Rogers. I'll try to understand it too."

"There's not a lot to understand, if you think about it."

"There is." Carol sighed and looked at the stars, "You'll find out soon."

"Jesu-" Steve shook his head and laughed, "Sure, Danvers. I'll find out soon."

"That's the spirit." Carol laughed along with him.

Meanwhile, inside the facility, Tony was working hard with F.R.I.D.A.Y. to finish the time device. Rocket was researching along with them as well. Natasha and Scott were already sleeping in their beds.

Clint was sitting on the couch, sharpening his blades and watching Tony fix the device. He has been working non-stop since his argument with Steve earlier. While Clint was sharpening his blades, the phone started ringing. He answered it.

"Hello?" Clint asked.

"Clint." Pepper sighed, "This is the seventh time you're answering the phone."

"And this is the fifteenth time you called." Clint joked, "What do you want now?"

"I was wondering..." Pepper hesitated, "I saw a ship landed near the HQ. Was that Tony?"

Clint looked at Tony who was working hard on the time device. It looked like he was arguing with Rocket.

"That wasn't him. It was Rhodey bringing in some supplies." Clint said. "I'll let you know if we find out anything about him. I promise."

"I swear to God, Clint. If he's there and you're lying, I'll break your goddamn back." Pepper threatened.

"I would love to see that, Pep." Clint chuckled, "Goodbye."

Clint hung up the phone and sighed. He grabbed the beer can that was behind the phone and started chugging away as he continued to watch Tony and Rocket do work on the time machine. There were some flickers of light coming from the machine, but nothing too serious.

"Cheers." Clint raised his beer towards them.

—Hel—

Thor fell onto the ceiling of the Cathedral as Hela started attacking them with her rock spikes coming from the ground. Valkyrie was throwing her knives at Hela but she was blocking it easily. Bruce was hiding inside the Cathedral so he won't get hurt by Hela's attack.

Thor generated thunder from within himself and used Stormbreaker to break through the rocky spikes. The problem was Hela was generating far more spikes than Thor breaking it down. Hela was covering the Cathedral which forced Valkyrie to move.

"Damn you, Hela." Thor muttered as he hovered from a distance to look at the spiky mountain Hela had made. He looked at the bottom where there was little support, "There she is."

Thor charged Stormbreaker with a lot of thunder and charged through the inside of mountain. The structure began to fall and Hela started to lose her balance. Valkyrie freed herself from all the spikes and managed to reach the top of the Cathedral. Thor smirked as he saw the structure crumble and Hela falling.

She landed on top of the Cathedral and before she could stand, Valkyrie placed her sword below her chin.

"Once you begin to stand, your head will be splattered on the floor." Valkyrie said and Hela followed.

Thor arrived, cape flowing and Stormbreaker shining. He looked at Hela, defeated, and started to laugh.

"This must be the first time I see you defeated, Goddess of Death." Thor smirked.

"And this must be the first time I am defeated, God of Thunder." Hela said.

"Then you must remember how you were defeated." Thor said and leaned Stormbreaker towards Hela, "I need a deal, sister."

"And what may that deal be, brother?" Hela asked intently.

"I need the army of the dead. I have a battle that I must win to save the universe." Thor looked at Hela and smiled, "And I need them now."

"And what will I get in return?" Hela asked.

"Your head stays with your body." Thor smiled and Hela frowned, "Your choice. I mean, you'll only speed up the process but I can do it entirely on my own."

"Fine. Give me a day, brother. Then your army will be waiting for you at the gates of your new Asgard."

"Very well, sister." Thor said, walking off with Valkyrie.

They continued to walk on the way home and they finally admired the lava rivers of Hel. Valkyrie was smiling.

"What are you so happy about?" Thor asked while also smiling.

"Can you really bring back the army of the dead?" Valkyrie asked.

"No. I just said that so I would look intimidating."

"Intimidating." Valkyrie nodded, "So, you aren't going to get Banner?"

"Banner! Oh shit." Thor started running back towards the Cathedral and Valkyrie started chuckling.
