Chapter 10
—Two Years after "The Decimation"—
Tony, Carol, Nebula, Clint, and Natasha entered the facility. Bruce, Thor, and Valkyrie were waiting inside the living room for their arrival. Tony was the first to enter and received a flood of cold air. Bruce ran to him and hugged him tightly.
"You must have missed me, Banner." Tony chuckled, letting go of the hug.
"Yeah. We really needed you." Bruce smiled, "By the way, you smell like shit."
"Well, a small ship doesn't have the kind of luxuries Earth provides you."
"It is good to see you, old friend." Thor smiled and hugged Tony.
"You too, point break." Tony said, patting Thor on the shoulder, "Random question. Have you grown more muscles."
"It must be how an Asgardian is born." Thor smirked. Thor looked behind Clint and Natasha and saw Carol and Nebula. "Is these your friends?"
"We have Carol Danvers and Nebula." Tony presented, "Carol helped me get out of space and Nebula kept me company."
"Thank you," Thor said looking at the two, "for keeping my friend safe."
"No problem." Carol smiled, "Anyways, it's been a while since I've been on Earth. I'll excuse myself for a moment."
Carol went outside to get a grasp of the planet she left so long ago. Nebula walked to the corner and started looking at what is inside the laboratory. The rest of the heroes sat on the couches for a moment.
"Clint, seems like you've gone some... changes." Tony carefully chose words, "Puberty?"
"Don't get too close, Stark. You ain't talking to the Clint you fought with and against three years ago." He said.
"Nice answer." Tony muttered. He looked at Natasha and he jokingly pointed at his hair, "Puberty too?"
"It's just my new style, Stark. You'll get to know my new moves once we start getting off our asses." Natasha said.
"Indeed. We need to start moving." Thor said, standing up, "As much as I want to keep on talking Stark, Bruce, Valkyrie, and I must leave for Hel."
"At least you know you're going to hell than heaven." Tony said.
"Not hell. It's Hel." Bruce said.
"I don't hear the difference Bruce. You have to spell it out."
"H-E-L. Hel." Bruce repeated.
"Oh... one l. I got you. So is that how Norse gods pronounce hell?" Tony joked.
"We'll be going." Thor said, walking out with Bruce and Valkyrie.
The three heroes went to the field and Thor used Stormbreaker to travel to Hel. That left Nebula, Tony, Natasha, and Clint inside the Avengers Headquarters.
"By the way..." Tony leaned closer to Natasha's ear, "How is Pepper? Is she ok?"
"It's been two years since you left, Tony. That's two years without you. The last time someone checked on her was two months ago..." Natasha whispered, "and Bruce checked on her. She said that she was 'holding up', but I don't believe her. She misses you, Tony. She really does."
"Well, I've been a shitty husband." Tony said but Natasha looked at her again, "Oh yeah, I meant fiancé. Haven't gotten married yet."
"And when do you plan to, Tony?"
Tony did not answer her but instead stated into the wall that was on front of him. It was empty but there was some scratches here and there. It reminded him of space. It reminded him of loneliness.
"Tony, you with me?" Natasha asked and Tony finally snapped.
"Yeah, yeah..." Tony muttered and looked around, "I should get a, two hours shower. I haven't done that in two years."
"I think you should." Natasha smiled and Tony went off. She looked behind her and saw Clint scoffing, "Can you at least be optimistic?"
"Same smug old bastard." Clint chuckled, "That's all I see."
—Outside—
Carol never really went to New York. She would often hear it when she was in California where she resided for a few months along with Fury and Coulson. The events that happened in 1995 greatly affected who she is today.
But when she went to a hilltop to watch the sunset, it was still beautiful, even if there were some tall buildings in the way. Carol never really loved buildings. She was fond of the peaceful sights. There was something she could be happy about when she had those sights.
The sun was reflecting off her eyes as she watched it carefully. Watching it fall into the darkness slowly and slowly until the full moon rises and takes its place. But it wasn't a peaceful sight as she wanted it to be. There was some rustling behind her but she didn't mind. The sunset was there to accompany her.
But she remembered from her visit to Earth back in 1995. One of the best things she learned from Fury was to always keep both eyes open.
Carol moves her head to the right and a blaster shot through the tree that she was leaning on. Carol began to glow gold around her body as she gained energy.
"Wrong fight, assholes." Carol said, flying towards the shot.
"Not the fight we expected, Cap." Rocket called out, trying to shoot Carol down of the sky.
Carol shot a photon blast at Rocket who was quickly sprinted around Earth's environment. When they both got into a area where it was dense with trees, something tackled Carol that she didn't see coming.
"I got her, Cap!" Scott shouted as he tried his best to keep Carol on the ground. Carol punched Scott in the stomach which sent him hitting through multiple tree branches. "She is strong as hell."
"No shit, Scott!" Rocket shouted from behind a tree. He started shooting at her while he tried to gain some distance. "A little help, Scott?!"
"I'm coming." Scott shouted in his ant-form, jumping from tree to tree.
Carol didn't focus on Scott and instead chased Rocket who was quickly jumping from branch to branch. Carol shot a photon blast at Rocket which made him stumble. He fell off the tree and landed into a pit filled with leaves. Carol landed on the ground and slowly walked towards Rocket, who was reloading her gun.
"Not today!" Scott shouted, jumping on top of Carol. He placed her in a choke maneuver and held it as tightly as he could. Carol hovered a little and slammed her back on a tree, making Scott fall. "Ouch."
"Why are you here?!" Carol shouted, walking angrily towards Rocket. Carol aimed her hand towards Rocket and a photon blast appeared, "Who are you."
"Just a couple of people passing by, making work on people like you." Rocket smirked, "And let me tell you, this is a special kind of work."
A piece of a stick hit Carol in the back which made her more angry. Steve Rogers was standing on a large branch, watching over. Steve dropped on the same level as Carol and lifted his hands up.
"Let's dance." Steve smirked.
"My pleasure." Carol grunted, landing a punch on Steve which sent him backwards on a tree, "Hit harder, old man."
"I was just getting started." Steve landed multiple punches on Carol but she barely flinched. Carol dodged a punch to her face and uppercutted Steve, making him launch to the air about 4 feet.
"Oh shit." Rocket muttered as he watched Steve get kicked in the ass.
"People like you, make me sick." Carol scoffed, going closer to Steve, "I could just kill you now."
"But that doesn't make you the good guy in this situation!" Steve argued.
"What? Are you supposed to be the good guys?" Carol stood up and looked around, "Who are you?"
"We're the..." Steve paused and glanced at Rocket and Scott. He sighed.
"Avengers." Scott continued.
"So you guys are the help." Carol muttered.
