Chapter 1
-Moments after "The Decimation"-
Steve ran inside the Wakanda facility wherein Shuri had tried to remove the Mind Stone from Vision. There were two piles of dust lying in the facility. The window was broken and there were weapons scattered across the floor.
They were in shock. Nobody knew what happened, besides the fact that Thanos had won. He did what he said he'd do. Thor missed his opportunity, but nobody could blame him. There must have been some things he has been through since his last visit.
Bruce and Rhodey followed behind Steve and looked around the floor.
"Steve, what happened? Where is everyone?" Rhodey asked, scanning the room.
"They're gone. Half of them vanished into thin air." Steve let out a huge sigh, "Is this happening everywhere?"
"Look." Bruce said softly, looking out of the window of the lab. There were Wakandans on the battlefield, staring at each other in confusion. Brothers and sisters fallen into the unknown, "Something bad is happening."
"Is this really happening to half of the population? Maybe, it's just happening in Wakanda." Rhodey argued.
"No... no." Bruce looked at the both of them, "Thanos talked about balance. It's like the universe started over again. Half of the universe's population, gone at an instance. He wanted the stones, Steve, for a reason."
"To give balance to the universe." Rhodey muttered then turned away. He covered his mouth with his hand, "I need to call... the government. We need a next move."
Rhodey walked out of the room and whipped his phone out. In an instant, he was in a conversation over his phone.
"We can't rebound from this, Steve. This is..." Bruce sighed, "this is the endgame now."
Meanwhile, outside the facility, Natasha was tending to Thor and Rocket. Rocket has been injured during the fight against Thanos, and Thor was hallucinating.
"Can you stand?" Natasha asked Rocket. Rocket shrugged Natasha away. "You won't get any better if you're against me."
"I can stand, missy." Rocket wiped some tears away from his eyes. "Groot." Rocket muttered.
"Who's Groot?" Natasha asked. She looked at Thor.
"A friend of mine and a very deep friend of his." Thor discreetly said, sitting on a wooden log, "We lost."
"All of us did. We can't do anything about that. But we have to keep on fighting." Natasha said.
"But..." Thor sighed, "there is nothing left for us to fight for."
Natasha sighed and sat beside Thor.
"Maybe there's no hope at all." Natasha looked around. There was dust floating around the air, "Maybe this is the end."
Thor dropped Stormbreaker and it fell to the ground, "I thought that axe would kill Thanos. It almost did. The missing part was my will to do it."
"Everybody has their revenge." Natasha exhaled, "You lost something since you've left, right?"
"Yes, many things." Thor looked around, smiling. "My father. Then Asgard. My best friend. And then..." Thor sighed deeply, "my brother."
"Loki?"
Thor nodded in silence and began to weep. Natasha patted Thor in the back as his tears flew out faster.
Steve walked slowly out of the facility and saw Thor and Natasha sitting together. Rocket walked towards the cliff and stared at the sunset that began to fall. Rhodey was somewhere in the forest, calling some old contacts. Bruce eventually followed Steve outside.
Steve ignored Thor crying and leaned into Natasha's ear. There was silence amongst them and the only thing they heard was the rustling of the leaves, before he spoke.
"We need to go. We couldn't find Shuri and Wakanda needs to recover." Steve glanced at Rocket, "Do you know any place that is safe?"
"I know some old bases in Russia. If that could be any help." Natasha let out a small smile.
"The base in Russia will have to do for now." Steve removed his Wakandan shields, "We need to hide."
Rhodey came out of nowhere and looked at all of them. He might have been the only person who is happy at that moment but it must be for a reason.
"Bad news or good news first?" Rhodey asked, placing his phone in his pocket.
"We've gone through a lot of bad news, Rhodey. I think the group would like to hear the good news." Natasha said.
"Ross is willing to give the Avengers HQ to all of you. The U.S. government doesn't have a response to a catastrophe at this scale."
"Bad news?" Bruce asked with a frowned face.
Rhodey sighed, "The disappearance is happening everywhere. Multiple countries have already confirmed people missing. Some are even confirming casualties."
"Casualties?" Steve asked.
"There are people killing each other for supplies. This ain't good, Steve. We need to get back to HQ."
"Then we have to move, and quick."
Thor has paused mourning over the death of his brother and found the power to stand up. He grabbed Stormbreaker for future expeditions- if he will see the day once again. Steve left the shields in the forest and everybody else followed them towards the center of Wakanda.
The streets were empty. Vehicles and weapons were left on the streets. It was a complete desert in Wakanda. Their ship was parked at the landing docks of the palace. Rocket sat on the front seat which was surprising- especially since it was the first time he was riding any human-made vehicle. Natasha took the wheel while Steve walked around the ship. Thor had a towel around his body to take in the coldness of the ship. Rhodey was looking at the map of the globe and the news that were sparking up.
Steve sat beside Thor who was staring into the ground.
"Natasha told me. I'm sorry." Steve said softly and sincerely.
"Thank you." Thor sighed, "Maybe you guys are what I need."
"Family is what you need. That's what everybody needs." Steve leaned back to the wall, "You shouldn't be around us. We're all broken."
"What do you mean?" Thor asked.
"Tony and I. We're not..." Steve chuckled sarcastically, "talking. We're no longer associates. We're no longer the Avengers."
Thor seemed confused and looked to Steve's facial expression. He could understand that they had a "falling out".
"We could have been prepared. We could have fought this together but..." Steve looked into the ceiling, "together we stand, divided we fall."
"Divided we fall." Thor repeated, "Thanos ripped us apart. We can't let him do that to us again."
"Speaking of him, where did he go?" Steve asked and Thor looked as confused as him. To be real, nobody knew where Thanos had gone to besides the man himself.
-Thirty-Six Hours after "The Decimation"-
Thanos has finished cooking his dinner. There were some vegetables that he had picked up a few hours before which he liked. He placed his plate on the table and began to eat.
It was peaceful in his ears while he enjoyed his meal. No sound except the buzzing of small creatures that slithered around his surroundings. The plants that grew inside his little shack were beautiful. It developed into multiple colours that made the shack more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
Once he was finished ingesting his dinner, he stood up and stared at the beautiful sunset that was on the horizon. His armour- near his farm- was hung on a scarecrow to scare off any intruders. He slowly walked towards the cliff, brushing his hands on the flowers that sprouted many months ago.
He sat on the chair he had built for himself every time he looked into the sunset. There was this sense that he would be doing this everyday, and he was looking forward to it. As he looked into the depths of the sun, he smiled.
"Home."
