Katie POV.
If it had been literally any other situation, Katie would have laughed when Travis started doing the chicken dance in the middle of the street, while making obnoxious noises.
But now that it was actually happening, Katie didn't find it even remotely funny that her temporally blind boyfriend was risking his pathetic life for her and Piper while the Avengers were attempting to kill him.
The second that the big green...thing had landed, Katie knew they were doomed. The horrid screaming that sounded like a battle cry, sent rigid shivers through her spine. The glass shattered inward, cutting the air like daggers. Katie shoved Travis over shielding him as glass bits rained on the demigods.
"Sorry!" She said to her boyfriend, laying practically on top of him
Even with his blank stare Travis made the mischievous smirk work. "Wow, Katie," He said, "I don't know if I'm ready for this big of a step."
Katie stared at him. "Really?" She asked. "In the middle of a life or death situation?"
"Wouldn't be funny if it wasn't."
"GUYS!" Connor yelled, "IT'S COMING!" Travis's look alike brother had several cuts on his arm. His watery blue eyes displayed a cover of calm a rapidly increasing sense of panic.
Nico had Reyna in his arms his pale skin contradicting the shadows warping around him. Reyna had a cut on her lower lip, and blood soaking through a stained glass wedge in thigh. Katie didn't think they'd ever looked that fierce with the fire in both their eyes.
Piper had thrown herself behind the desk and besides being emotionally unstable, Piper was the least injured them all.
"LOOK OUT!" Connor yelled.
The ground shook with every step, enough to make vibrations through the building. Katie's head slammed into Travis's and her attempt to get up failed completely. Her teeth caught on her tongue hard enough to draw blood.
"GUYS!" Connor screamed. He grabbed Katie's arm and Travis's shirt collar and dragged them away. The monster barreled past them snarling. The tiled floor cracked under the weight. It's dangerous hateful unnaturally blue eyes locked Reyna and Nico.
Nico drew his sword raising his hand in a protective wave. The shadows obeyed and he ran at the monster. The shadows pooled at the monsters feet wrapping around it's legs in an effort to slow it down. It screamed again and Katie covered her ears.
The monstrosity clawed at the inky black dragging it away from its prey. Nico fearlessly branded his sword with a flying leap. His sword sunk into the monster with a sickening thunk. The force of Nico's dive was barely enough to knock it back an inch.
Nico looked surprised for a second his sword lodged fitfully in the corner chest of the monster oozing a slug green blood. Ten feet off the ground and no place to put his feet, Nico Di Angelo was a hovering target.
Katie felt her heart flutter in her chest, her hand found the nearest object- a coffee mug forgotten on the security guards desk.
"Hey, stupid!" Katie yelled. She was slightly distracted as Travis answered with a "huh?", but she was already in motion wounding back and throwing the cup.
Katie was never a good at javelin throwing. Or any type of throwing. Which was clearly displayed when she was faced with a humongous, twelve foot tall, bulky, blue eyed, alien creature thing, with a tiny, small, contrasting black demigod on its chest. Guess where her projectile hit?
Nico's arms went slack, his hold dropped. His body hit the ground heavily the mug shattered against the ground next to him.
"Nico!" Reyna screamed.
"What happened?" Travis asked. "What did Katie do?"
"Katie! He was our best bet!" Connor yelled. "Now how are we getting out of here?!"
"You're girlfriend hit Nico!" Piper snapped, her voice biting. "Move!"
The shadows restricted from the monster dissolving like sugar in water. Panic flared in her thoughts shoving all her other ideas to the back of her mind.
"Katie!"
She was shaking, her head buzzed, an old memory resurfaced. A big fight in New York, too close to home. The demigods had been distracted by the Romans, but Katie recalled the morning news from the tv that was in the big house.
"Katie!"
A civil unrest. A huge battle. A missile, going to nuke the island of Manhattan.
"Katie Gardener!"
It hit her like a ton of bricks. At the most inconvenient time. This big green thing, was the Hulk. And at that same time Hulk's fist slammed into her.
"KATIE!" Connor yelled, Causing Travis to yell blindly, too. Piper let out a scream, Reyna reached out towards her, gritting her teeth in pain.
Katie felt like Thalia had electrocuted her. Her head snapped backwards, pain spiked through her chest. The air around her spun like a cyclone. The wall behind her was in a collision course. Time until her immediate death upon impact? None.
It was like time froze. The world might not have felt it, but for Katie, everything slowed. Chaos had erupted around her, but Katie's mind focused.
The monster was Hulk. Hulk was made of Rage. Uncontrollable anger. The Avengers are always together. That's how they defeated the aliens that day. As a team. Hulk wouldn't be alone.
He also had been waiting. Somehow they'd known they would come. Someone was giving insight...Or controlling them. Who had the Avengers fought? Some weirdo named Loki. Asgaurdian. Gods made powerful enemies.
Oh Hey look a wall.
"Styx!" Katie moved in a blur. Green spun from her hands, a silky golden and ivy rope appearing in her hands, wrapping around a beam support in the ceiling. A vine from a plant only found in Demeter's sacred garden on Olympus. Katie twisted her body jerking her momentum away. Her foot skidded along the wall, slowing her down enough to reverse her direction. Her feet heaved off the white wall bouncing her right back at the rage monster.
An action Katie never would've even dreamed of doing. Demeter kids were usually peaceful, protective of only their gardens, and occasionally boyfriends when mortal girls were around. Katie never put a lot of effort into training. She figured when she was eighteen Travis and her would find as apartment and live normally. As children of non important gods, monsters would usual dismiss them in crowds.
But here she was swinging towards the Hulk at a dizzying speed well aware that it was very likely she wasn't going to reach eighteen. Katie locked her leg firing her heel out in a razor kick. Her sneaker slammed into the monsters face dazing it's senses.
Katie let go of the vine warping herself around the creatures thick bulging neck. She spit out a piece of her hair, posing her feet on the Hulk's back.
She could feel the air whistle as something flew by her ear. Katie sprang upwards flipping over Hulk's head as the Radiation monster looked around in confusion. Another arrow narrowly missed her shoulder hitting the security desk and lodging in the fancy marble crusted counter. Piper ducked and screamed as gunfire whipped in the air. The last unbroken glass window cracked with multiple spider web fragments as thick bullets penetrated the building.
Katie dropped from the air, distracted, misleading her landing. Her arms grappled for a hold, flinging around. An obnoxious beeping pining wrestled just below her thoughts. Her elbow caught on a black handle, The grip of Nico's cold black sword, forgotten in the chest of Hulk.
"Look out!" The demigods scattered. The Hulk glared down at her, It's haunting blue eyes, glaring holes into her soul.
Wait, Blue?
Suddenly Katie's elbow dropped the Blade sliced through the flesh, A rumbling Roar, shook Katie to her core. The beeping intensified, high pitched ringing that alerted her. She felt a cold sensation spreading through her body. Her hand froze like ice around the underworldly metal grip.
Katie let out a scream.
"Katie!" Piper yelled back. Her face flashed with panic and uncertainty. Behind her a woman in black with bright red hair dropped from the sky. Reyna struggled to pick up Nico, her legs soaked with her own blood. Nico drowsily locked eyes with the daughter of Demeter, a gash on his forehead leaking red.
Connor and Travis stumbled towards the door. A range of bullets and arrows seemed to be raining down on them.
The black freeze crept up her arm, panic driving her thoughts. Hulk let out another battle cry. His giant green fingers wrapped around her upper body squeezing the last of her breath out of her mouth. The strenuous grip flung her away, She rotated flipping in a series uncontrollable jumps. Katie flung out the broken windows.
She hit a light post at maximum velocity. Her back bent around the metal cylinder, Katie saw red and black spots. She was surprised her back didn't break. She dropped to the ground heavily.
All of her energy drained away. She could literally feel the Stygian iron sword sucking away her life. She felt cold. Her breathing became labored. Distant explosions and screams pierced the air, but Katie couldn't bring herself to look up.
They could yell and scream all they wanted. Katie let out her breath heavily. She wanted to sleep. Really badly. Her arm was like lead.
"Katie!"
Suddenly get lead arm was yanked up, her fingers sliding from the deathly metal easily. Energy rushed towards her, Blood pounded in her head, the start of a spiking headache like she'd been laying upside down for an hour.
Nico bent over her, his dark eyes striking her, his expression blank as always. In some ways that was worse than anything else. Red smeared across his forehead like a desperate attempt to keep the blood at bay.
"Gods." Nico muttered, though it sounded like he was tempted to say something stronger. He looked past her, before grabbing her untempered arm.
"We've got to move!" Nico said. Katie stumbled after him. Falling down on the sidewalk behind a pale blue Hybrid, that was left on the empty street. Travis was already there, breathing heavily his fists white knuckled. He was also muttering.
"What happened?" Katie asked, "I can't move my arm!"
Nico shook his head, like trying to clear his thoughts. "Stygian iron, It's an underworld metal. It...It uh...sucks the life from things, upon contact."
"What?" Katie screeched. She peeked from behind the car, before whipping right back at the son of Hades. "My arm is black. I can't move it. Please tell me there's a way to reverse it."
"Connor, Reyna, and Piper are distracting that dude with the arrows and that girl with the guns." Nico said deliberately avoiding the question.
"Nico!"
"Hulk was hit in the head by a support beam when the explosion went off-"
"What explosion? And stop avoiding my question!"
"The arrows that that guy keeps shooting-"
"Hawkeye," Katie supplied with annoyance. Nico raised an eyebrow, but continued. He sloppily wiped blood from his forehead.
"That Hawkeye is shooting are tricked out, one blew the inside of the Empire State Building. We're lucky to be alive. It's Hong to come down any second now."
"And my arm?"
"I propose that we split up-"
"NICO!"
"I'm taking Reyna to Hogwarts!"
Before Katie could do anything more, Nico bolted into the confusion on the other side of the car. Katie could only watch helplessly as Nico bee-lined for the love of his life. She was dodging bullets from Black Widow, but her moves were getting sluggish, her thigh must have been in extreme pain.
Nico tripped and stumbled over his own feet falling into Reyna.
At that same exact time an arrow exploded rocking Connor backwards into the heap. All three of them were gone before, Katie could blink. Absorbed into the shadows and disappearing like they were only illusions.
Katie never felt so helpless. They went their best fighters. How could Nico abandon them like that? Travis grabbed her arm but she didn't feel it until he pulled on her.
"Kat," He said, for once in his life being serious, "I have an idea, We can head to Storybrooke. But we need to hurry before Piper gets over whelmed. Do you trust me?"
Katie stared into his blank eyes. She prayed to all the gods they would make it out alive. "Yes."
"Good take out a Drachma."
"This is no time to be making Iris messages!"
"I'm not!" Travis's yelled back. "Call the Gray Sisters!"
"What about you?"
"I'm going to do something in very good at." Travis said. He jumped over the hood of the car landing purely on instinct. "I'm going to be annoying and obnoxious."
Katie called the Gray Sisters, watching her boyfriend walk into the middle of the street. Piper was cornered between a brick wall building and the super spies, trembling while shouting commands that no longer seemed to be working. She was panicking.
The smoking gray cab appeared on the street, screeching to a stop, the door popped open waiting for its victim.
"Hey, Legolas! And Princess!" Travis yelled. Katie winced, he must have been low on material. None the less, the babe calling seemed to have the desired effect. The ex agents turned as if to say "who? me?"
Both their eyes were blue.
"Piper!" Katie risked yelling. Travis started dancing and making obnoxious noises.
The daughter of Aphrodite sprinted towards her. Hawkeye and Black Widow remained transfixed on Travis's random jerking movements. It took Katie a second to figure out he was doing chicken dance.
"Hurry, dearie!" A voice from the cab shouted, "We don't have all day!"
Piper grabbed her normal arm tightly, trying to pull her towards the cab interior. Katie took a step back then she was in the seat.
"Travis, Come on!" She screamed.
Too late. Travis bolted at her voice his arm out stretched. His feet tripped on every uneven lift. The Avengers were on him before he could get hallway there.
"Travis!" Katie shouted. The door of the cab slammed shut on its own accord. Katie was locked back into Piper. The taxi jerk forward at an impossible speed, the Gray Sisters screeched at each other for the eye ball and the tooth.
But only one thing was playing on Katie's mind. She left Travis. She left Travis. She left Travis.
That and her arm was still turning black...
