Chapter 2: Reyna Blows Up an Army, Sorta

And the dedication goes to...@Ninjagirl13! The answer was Cowboys!

And also a shoutout to @Typical_Weird_Nerd because I don't want my remains scattered through Tartatrus. I just want to say to all of my readers, you guys are the best. I couldn't ask for better comments or votes. You guys make my day whenever I see that even one person voted. And your comments make me laugh all the time.

Reyna POV.

Reyna never liked hiding. It made her feel like a coward, which was totally against everything she was. Her mother was Bellona, the goddess of war. Sometimes she would wake up at night physically hurting from her inability to win. She definitely hated being underground. It was closed in and dark, much like the cells she and Hylla shrouded in when the pirates kidnapped them off Cerse's island. She'd rather be up on the ground fighting than here.

Unfortunately, she really didn't have a choice anymore. Not if she wanted the Half Blood race to survive.

She stared at the floor pacing, her footsteps the only noise in the shock of the story Nico and the Stolls had just finished telling. Nico had his arm wrapped, from a cut he got fighting the Chaos creatures, and a blank look on his face. Connor was tapping on the table as if itching to ask a question but holding it back. Travis looked frustratedly ahead his eyes blank and paler than normal. Katie sat next to him rubbing his back looking glumly at the ground.

Piper pursed her lips. "I don't believe it!" She stated firmly. "This is too big. This had to be a joke Stolls. Please tell me it's a joke." Her eyes were rimmed red and her hair a little less prefect than normal. "Please tell me he's okay." She whispered.

No one said anything. The daughter of Aphrodite swallowed a sob and turned boring from the room.

Katie bit her lip.

Reyna brushed her dark hair out of her face, and turned to Nico. "Chaos?" She asked. "What did we do to piss him off?"

Connor shrugged his foot tapping on the ground now.

"So this super being of power, completely screwed up our lives for no reason? I get wanting Percy Jackson, he's powerful and loyal, but why the rest of you? Why attack the camps?"

Nico rolled his skull ring between his fingers. "His name is Chaos. If he's like most people, them he was named after what he does best: he creates Chaos."

Reyna continued pacing, mulling over their stories. Her thoughts turning back to the day everyone disappeared. Back to the day, camp was overtaken, and the....pineapple.

Reyna swung her blade around, kicking her foot into the stomach of an empousa and the monster knocked into a dozen dracaenae like bowling pins. Dust covered her clothes, filled the air, tainted her tongue like dirt.

Her hair flung out of its braid and a battle cry ripped through her throat.

Around her more monsters crowd pressing attacks and her motions becoming more spontaneous and jerky. Hellhounds practically leaped back into Tartatrus when they attacked her.

"Nico!" She shouted. Screams echoed all over the battle field that five minutes ago was a peaceful camp. The ground trembled, the sky thundered, waves crashed into creatures, and the screams pierced air like thousands of knives.

She dodged the claws of a monster she didn't recognize as Greek or Roman. She broke down the walls of the circle around her, gold glittering in an aura off her armor and sword.

She searched the battle field for her boyfriend, his usual response empty over the cacophony.

Cold pulled under her, for a second she glimpsed the grassy swarming with shadows. Monsters fell for no reason, though Reyna could tell the shadows were actually attacking them, for all the good it did. Acid fell from the sky mixing with the rain.

Fire danced through the packs, sightings of Leo completely aflame burned through the creatures. Fireballs flew from his hands, clearing alleys for only seconds before they were flooded with new fights.

"Nico, Duck!" She yelled struggling above the noise, watching as one of Leo's cannonballs nearly hit him. She struggled to get to him, slashing down giant spiders and a six armed thingy.

"Watch out!"

Before Reyna could do anything the ground crumbled. She jumped away at the last second, before an entire chunk of the ground fell into oblivion.

"Nico!" She yelled. She didn't get a reply. Reyna gritted her teeth. She heard Percy yell from across the field.

She looked around. Piper screamed as Hellhounds crashed onto her, winds whipped like vortexes and black a black column exploded in the center the fighting. Gems flung everywhere like projectiles of death. Suddenly, Percy, Jason and Hazel were gone, too.

Shotguns rocketed over the noise. The identical sons of Hermes popped paintballs of doom all over the black sea of monsters. Frank fired arrows into the sky. Then all of them screamed, unbalanced, and then they were gone.

"What the Pluto!" Reyna screamed. They were all just gone.

Monsters hissed and growled surging forward with a new strength. The plants at her feet twisted dragging them under. Katie leapt through the crowds sweat on her brow. Around her demigods yelled dropping like flies. Her stomach tried to climb back up her throat. Blood.

She couldn't take it anymore.

She shoved her sword into the ground calling on a power she hadn't used in forever. Power surged up her blade, into her grip, and up her arms. Her eyes flushed gold. With an ear shattering CRACK, the power splintered, sending shards of golden fragments flinging into the fights, the backlash knocking everyone but her to the ground. Reyna took off through leaping over the dismantled bodies, slicing any that reached to grab her.

"Half Bloods, go now!" Reyna yelled. "Retreat!"

Demigods ran in all directions. Monsters clawed at them, more screams, tears. Katie ran beside her, confidently yelling orders to others as if she'd done it all her life. Piper fell in front of her, a gash on her forehead bleeding profusely. Reyna grabbed her arms hauling her to her feet, half dragging half carrying her along.

The sky ignited with reds and blacks, the air tasted like acid. Reyna's lungs felt like imploding. Her head pounded. A shrill whined grew in the vibrating air. Piper and Katie stumbled, down the hill, Reyna's eyes looked at the fiery sky.

The small, oval, yellow and green, spiked projectile arced across the sky. And headed straight for them.

"Move!" Reyna screamed she shoved Piper and Katie down the rest of the hill and pitched herself on them.

The camp lit up in white fires. Monsters and demigods screamed, dust covered the air blocking out the sun. She couldn't see anything in the dark. chunks of rock slammed top the ground around her. People yelled. Agony stirred through the air.

And then something hit the back of her head. Hard.

When Reyna had woken up, a week later, she was in the make-shift infirmary under ground a little ways away for the camp. Aurum had bounded to her his glowing golden body showing scars of battle. Argentum hadn't made it.

She felt her dogs eyes on her even now watching from the corner. He remained different throughout the boys stories, including the time Nico insisted he met wizards in England. And the when Travis stuttered through explaining how Storybook characters resided Maine and he'd come back from the dead.

Connor swallowed hard and he took a deep breath.

"Miranda." He said, breaking the silence. Katie stiffened. Autumn cocked his head. Reyna took a sharp breath. "Where is she?"

Reyna looked at him. "Why?"

"I need...I need to tell her something. It's important."

Reyna but her lip,a new habit she wasn't use to. She looked away from Connor finding an interest in the cave wall. Aurum circled her legs, emphatically feeling her. Nico looked at her. Travis stayed ahead but she could almost hear his thoughts.

"Reyna-"

Connor was cut off as a sob escaped Katie. Then another. And then the rainfall of tears and she shuddered.

"I'm sorry Connor." Reyna whispered.

He looked like he'd just been hit the face with a frying pan.

"She's....gone?" He asked uncertainty like the words didn't quite make sense.

"No." He said. "No!" He ran a hand through his hair shaking. "She can't be!  Di Immortas! She can't be!" He charged out the room. Reyna wasn't sure but she thought she saw tear drops fall from his no longer sparkling eyes.

"Connor!" Reyna yelled after him, helplessly. She glanced at the rest of them and ran after the fleeing son of Hermes. She followed the crashing foot falls. Coming sobs echoed of the dark halls. He'd been in love. She realized.

She found him crying on the ground covered in dirt. He didn't look up when she walked over his body wrecked with heaving sobs. Reyna didn't know why but she felt the need comfort him. She'd barely ever comforted anyone in her life.

She knelt next to him, her heart beating rapidly. She throat was dry. Her hand awkwardly placed on his shoulder.

"It's okay Connor?" She tried. "She's in a better place now."

He shook his head his fingers running through his hair again and again.

"She died with honor. She saved our lives. We wouldn't be here without her."

"I should have known." Connor cried. "Should've known."

"Connor-"

"No!" He sobbed. "You don't understand! I should've known! Di Immortas, Reyna! I should have known the moment Katie appeared. It wasn't Katie's gem dazzling eyes Travis saw in the underworld. They were Miranda's.

"I should have been there! It doesn't matter about honor! It matters that she died! I should've been there! Should've told her. I loved her! I loved her more than pranking! I should have known, I should have been there to protect her." He spoke with much passion, Reyna felt a bit of herself break with him. He looked up at the rock ceiling shaking, his teary eyes overflowed with liquid drops. He broke down and sobbed. Reyna had never felt do clueless on what to do her life.

Miranda had been part of an hunter gatherer group, that went out to collect food and resources. On one of these parties they had gotten cornered by the creatures, that Reyna now called Chaos Creatures, and Miranda sacrificed herself to give her group time to get away. At least that's what they heard; that's all they could get from the terrified rest of the group. Katie had cried for an entire three days. Reyna had let her. She walked away when ever Katie's eyes brimmed with tears.

She couldn't do that now. Connor...there was just something about him. She couldn't let him drown in his misery. He was the lifter-upper guy, the guy that laughed, who's eyes sparkled, and made everyone remember why they were ever still fighting. She wanted him to be happy. But now he looked so broken, so shattered, so venerable, she wanted to hug him, reassure him it will get better, that Miranda wouldn't want him to forget his own life, and fade to death. Reyna wanted to kiss him back to life.

Wait, What?

"I swear, Reyna," Connor said his hard blue eyes glaring right into hers. "I will take down Chaos and make him pay for everything. EVERYTHING."

Reyna didn't doubt that he would give it his all. She didn't doubt that he would due for his cause if he had to.

"Let's go back to the others." Reyna said quietly.

The entire way back Connor was clenching and unclenching his fists. His tears died and a new determination radiated off of him. Reyna stepped back into the meeting room, feeling the looks of the demigods on her. No one had moved. Aurum sat next to her feet. Connor took his place at the table with a hardened expression.

"So?"

"Sothe million dollar question," Travis said blandly, staring at the wall. "What do we do now?"

"Take out Chaos." Connor said immediately, without hesitation. Nico raised an eyebrow.

"That's a long term goal." Nico said gently. "He's primordial. they aren't easily taken out."

"Gaea was."

"At the cost of a lot of demigods!"

"We can't take out Chaos until we get allies." Travis said.

"Are you suggesting we go out and tell the mortal world about us?" Katie asked uncomfortably.

"Not quite."

"I know what you're thinking!" Connor exclaimed. "And nothing you can't pay me will ever make me go back there!"

"Says the guy who wants to go take on a primordial!"

"Oh Come on!" Nico said. "How bad could it have been? Because it definitely couldn't have been worse than my trip!"

"Really? I got electrocuted."

"I watched Annabeth die!"

"I died!"

"But you're-"

"I think we should go to the gods." Reyna cut in.

They all turned and looked at her like they had never even thought of that. Of Course, Reyna believed they would probably still need the story book characters and maybe the wizards. And maybe the Gods would have some allies there too.

"The gods? Like go up to Olympus uninvited? And risk being struck off the clouds?" Travis asked his hand found Katie's giving him a tight squeeze.

"Don't they already know?"

Reyna shook her head. "I doubt if they did they would be ignoring us and forcing us to live like this."

The idea hung in the air taking hold.

"We'd need transportation. A car or dragon?"

"I can shadow travel six but I'd need a break before I could do all six again."

"Who's going?"

"Obviously you Reyna, and Nico. The Stolls should probably go too."

"I'm not going without Katie."

"So that's five-"

"I'm coming." The five demigods whipped around startled by Piper's sudden reappearance. She looked slightly more collected and determined. Though her eyes still held in watery tears and her face still pink from crying, she stood tall. "I'm coming with you."

Reyna looked at everyone else shrugging. "Ok."

"I also came to tell you, Travis, that Will Solace is working on an antidote for your eyes. It will take a while, but if we're going to do this quest he can send a messenger meet us at Olympus."

"Awesome." Travis grinned. "I feel so special."

"So we're good?" Reyna asked around. "You guys ready to do this crazy trip?"

Everyone nodded, Travis's eyes starting through her unnervingly so.

"Piper, has Rachel woken from her coma yet?" Reyna asked. "I know you were just in the infirmary. And I have a feeling we're going to need a prophecy."

But Piper shook her head. "Not yet."

Reyna nodded in understanding. She looked at Nico, and glanced at Connor and rolled her shoulders.

"Let's do this."

Nico held out his hands and the six of them made a circle. Reyna held her breath as Nico concentrated. Then everything turned black.

~<>~

This time they remembered to close their eyes. But that didn't stop the jumbled mess they landed in. Reyna found herself groaning, her legs were under Piper who was smushed the ground under Nico. Katie was yelling at Travis who was wedged between a street bench and her. It's good to know some things never change. The yelling, she meant. The yelling never changed.

Something moved under her. Reyna realized with a start that she was laying on Connor. But that's not what startled her.

What startled her is that she actually kinda...liked it.

What the Pluto, Reyna! She thought, You have a boyfriend!

"Uh sorry." She mumbled to Connor getting off him. She felt her face blush a little but it didn't seem like anyone noticed. Nico held out a hand to her and she took it, a smile plastered on her lips.

But for some reason, it was slightly forced.

His hands were ice cold, Nico's dark eyes making sure she was okay. She nodded to his unasked question. The corners of his mouth flicked up like the ghost intentions of an actual smile.

"Whoa." Travis said, Katie had helped him to his feet and he was cocking his head. "I've never heard New York city this quiet. Are you sure we're in New York still?"

Reyna looked around. Everything was indeed quiet. No one in sight. The sidewalks that were normal filled with people day or night, were empty and barren, not even cars out. Reyna shivered, cold breeze brushed through the streets.

"And this is the part were the sentinels come and incinerate all of us." Connor whispered.

Even so his voice seemed to echo in the silence. Reyna swallowed hard.

"Riiiight." Reyna forced a chuckle. And yes, it did sound as forced as it was. "Let's...Let's just...go."

Reyna didn't think Nico had ever been so accurate in his shadow travels. He'd perfected his destination, if not the landings, and they were right outside the Empire State Building. The glassy doors stood locked and the lobby was dark.

But as Connor pointed out as a half hearted attempt of calm everyone's rising nerves, they'd fought the titan of time, made peace between two ancient rival forces the Greeks and the Romans, and then sent Mother Earth back to sleep, one locked door shouldn't stand in their way.

Travis had the lock broken before his brother had even finished saying it. And Travis was still blind. Katie helped him up and kissed his cheek lightly.

Nico led the way into the dark room. The sunlight streamed between their legs illuminating the dusty floor. The air smelled musty and old. Reyna worriedly cared a glance at Nico who frowned.

The demigods cautiously spread out, looking around the once bright busy place. Piper found a light and flicked the switch causing everyone, except for Travis to wince. Reyna felt awkward and unwelcomed in the Greek aura. She'd only ever heard the stories, never once actually stepped up to Olympus. She was tempted to turn back listening to Travis's voice in her head.

"The gods? Like go up to Olympus uninvited? And risk being struck off the clouds?"

"Well, whoever was last the doorman, must have left in a hurry." Nico said. He poked around the front desk, pulling an elevator key from the messy stack of papers and empty coffee cups.

He walked over to the elevator where Katie and Travis were already standing The elevator wasn't on, but Nico and Connor pried apart the doors.

"It's a magic key," Nico said quietly as if they were being spied on. His tone made Reyna anxious, even if she didn't show it. "It should take us up no matter what."

"I don't get why Nico can't us shadow travel us up there." Piper piped up from the back. She was looking over shoulder towards the doors.

Nico knelt in the elevator looking for the key hole. "Magic boundaries. Zeus made it impossible for my to shadow travel up there as a way to get back at my dad for some stupid thing. And if course my dad retaliated by forbidding Jaso-" He stopped abruptly shooting Piper a glance. "Never mind. I just can't do it anymore."

Katie slid out of Travis's hand and put a comforting arm around Piper.

Connor, who was helping look for the keyhole, let out a groan. "I don't see it, Nico. I don't think it's here."

Everyone looked at him. "What do you mean, Connor?" Travis asked, nervously.

"I think-"

Suddenly the building trembled. The supports groaned. Reyna stumbled fighting gravity. Connor fell, his arm hitting Nico in the face. Travis slipped over pulling Katie down. Piper let out a scream and leaned into the wall.

As suddenly as it happened the tremor stopped. Reyna looked at everyone else.

"What," Katie asked accusingly, "Was that?"

Connor shrugged, "It felt almost like something big just landed-"

"Guys..." Piper swallowed weakly her voice full of fear, catching everyone's attention. Piper was staring wide eyes out the doors and windows. At first Reyna didn't see what she meant. But then the battle cry erupted through the glass shattering the widows into deadly projectiles.

"HULK SMASH!"
