Korra the Kid

It was news to the southern water tribe when their chief's daughter was found out to be the new avatar. People swarmed to the parents home, demanding answers. Whether their little trouble maker, was actually the avatar? Was she actually their beloved Anngs reincarnation? Was this child to keep balance in the world?

The little avatar was sort of confused. I mean yeah the bending part was awesome but the whole process was a blur. She climbed onto her dad's shoulder and they walked out to greet the crowd. Everyone gasped, as if seeing her would confirm her identity as the avatar. Korra wasn't a shy kid, far from it. She waved at everyone a grin on her adorable face. The villagers roared back, wooting and clapping.

Korra's dad laughed, tapping her daughters knee. Her mom shyed closer to the two, only smiling at the women who grabbed at her telling her how amazing it was that she was the mother of the new avatar. Korra's mom already thought her daughter was tough and stubborn, now she was the avatar, how worse could that be!

Later in the day Korra and her parents traveled to the white lotus base. Korra met her teachers, and a bunch of other people, she was excited to meet them for she knew their training would make her stronger.

And then she had the honor of meeting a family. Their mother was a water bender, their father passed a few years back. The family had two sons and a daughter. The daughter looked so much like the mother, the eldest son was a mix of the two parents and the youngest apparently looked like the father.

When they saw the little avatar, tears trickled down their faces, the mother grabbed Korra pulling her into a hug. Korra, confused, squirmed in her hold. The eldest son cried and laughed, poking the little girl in the cheek saying, "is that you dad? "

Korra laughed and shook her head. "Whadda you talking about? I'm a girl! "

"We know sweetie, you are! " The older woman said, caressing Korra's cheek.

Korra suddenly noticed how sad they all looked and frowned. "Why are you sad, grangran? "

The old woman laughed, wiping the last of her tears, and crouching down to eye level with the girl. "You remind me of someone I once knew "

Korra tilted her head, staring up at the familiar faces. "What was her name? "

"His name was Aang" Katara said.

"Where did he go? " The little girl inquired.

"He became a little girl, a beautiful little girl"

"Oh" Korra said, her eyes widening. Then it hit her. "Was he the avatar? "

"I knew it, she is dad! " Bumi exclaimed.

"Shut up Bumi" Kya sneered.

"That's right! " Katara chuckled.

The youngest son then came forward. His face blank. "Hmmph, you sure don't remind me of him though"

Korra frowned. "I'm sorry..."

Katara smacked her youngest son on the arm. "Sshhs, Tenzin don't say that"

Tenzin rolled his eyes and walked away.

Being the avatar was cool and all but it had its downsides. Ever since Korra became the avatar she wasn't allowed to play with the other kids, she was always talked about behind her back, and no one wanted to be friends with her for too long. And to add to that, Tenzin still didn't want to talk to her.

She was out, training and training, day after day, she was young but her bending was one of a kind. One day she accompanied her mother to the market, they bought fruits and vegetables, and some fish. Korra was again stared at. Her mom handed her a coin and told her to buy some ginger from a stand. Korra ran up to the woman, handing her the coin and with a smiling expression said, "one please! "

"Here you go! " The woman smiled back and handed her a ginger. Korra thanked her and turned away. Then she suddenly remembered her change and turned back to the woman to ask. But she stopped in her tracks when she heard the woman laugh and say, "she's never going to save anyone, not her"

Korra went home feeling glum, not telling her parents any of it.

A few months later, not a lot of things changed. Tenzin was still not talking to Korra, the other kids were either too scared or forced to not play with Korra, and the grown ups weren't any better. The only thing thing that seemed to be on the plus side was Korra learning better control of her earthbending. It came naturally. She could sense a lie from a mile away.

One day after training she found her self playing on her own. She built snowmans only to knock them down with a blast of fire or a boulder. She enjoyed herself till she heard a sound. Laughter. She squeaked, hiding behind her snowman. A group of kids passed by, unaware of her being there.

Korra watched them silently. Her childhood was taken too early. She sighed and turned, they'd never want to play with her anyway. But stopped suddenly in her tracks when she felt a large mass, moving downhill.

The vibrations irked at her, forcing her feet to turn. She ran towards the kids, and all they could do was stare.

"You have to leave!! " Korra yelled.

The tallest among them snickered and rolled his eyes. "Freak"

"I'm-" Korra gulped. They'd never listen to her. Then something caught her eye. "Tenzin!! "

The young airbender who was walking towards the kids, raised a brow, incredulous. Korra started to panic, it was nearing.

"You guys have to leave now-Tenzin tell them" Korra pleaded.

Tenzin sighed and stopped walking. "Don't act like we're friends"

Korra's eyes glazed over. why? She wasn't quite sure, it just stung to hear him say it. She shook it away, and focused on the kids instead. "Please, I don't think I can save you all! "

"Save us? " The leader scoffed, stepping forward. "You, you're never going to save anyone" He pushed her over by the shoulder. Korra fell into the snow, groaning. It was too late.

Heads turned to the avalanche that they hadn't noticed until now. Korra gulped. Tenzin gaped.

Everyone was too occupied to notice Korra. She leapt to her feet, and lay out on the field everything she had learned up untill now. She found hard ground, her feet contacted and an earth wall almost a mile long went up, against the snow.

Korra fell back onto her butt, confused, freaked out and honestly happy.

"What the-" The leader started. "-WHAT!? "  He shrieked. The kids cheered, clapped, gasped, grined, surrounding Korra. The avatar said nothing, only nodding at them hurriedly.

The kids stepped aside when Tenzin came forward. He pursed his lips, looking around. "I owe you"

Korra grinned.

After that incident, people started seeing her in a new light. She wasn't just the kid who happened to be the avatar. She was, the avatar.
