History:
Visola is a waterbender, born in the Southern Water Tribe to Kiata and Jaso though Jaso had returned to Atlantis to seek approval to leave his home permanently to live with the Southern Water Tribe, Kiata and his unborn child. However, before he could return, his father, the King of Atlantis, fell in and died, leaving Jaso to take his place.
Not long after Visola was born, Zei, Jaso's younger and more ambitious brother, sent an assassin to kill Jaso's heir. They failed to find Visola, who had been with Hakoda and his wife Kya at the time, but they killed Kiata in her place.
Following this, Visola was raised by Hakoda and Kya and eventually alongside their two children, Sokka and Katara.
Born into the diminished Southern Water Tribe capital of Wolf Cove, Visola faced the reality of her tribe's dwindling strength from an early age. At the time of her birth, fifty years of repeated Fire Nation raids intended to capture and imprison the tribe's waterbenders had left them devoid of benders.
While the Southern Water Tribe's defenses would have crumbled under the might of the Fire Nation, the tribe's relative inaccessibility in the frigid South Pole and the Fire Nation's perception that they were a non-threat meant that they were mostly left alone. Visola grew up within a loving, close family and community in her tribe.
However, when Visola was twelve, the Fire Nation again raided the village when charged by Fire Lord Azulon to find and dispose of the last remaining waterbender in the tribe. During the battle, the leader of the raid Yon Rha confronted Kya, who was taking refuge in the family's igloo. Seeking shelter with her surrogate mother, Visola ran back to her home and interrupted their exchange. Realizing the intentions of Yon Rha, who had demanded Kya tell him the identity of the waterbender, Kya insisted Visola leave and gave herself up as the last waterbender, lying to protect her adopted daughter. Visola ran to fetch Hakoda, but by the time they returned, Yon Rha had left and Kya had been killed. The death of Kya had a profound impact on Visola. Although she tried to stop her anger and grief from becoming a part of her, the same cannot be said about her guilt. Visola carries a deep guilt over Kya's death and blames herself almost more than she blames the Fire Nation as she is aware that she is not a true member of the family and as such feels unworthy of the protection that Kya gave her in that moment.
With the absence of a mother figure in the family, Visola soon found herself filling the role left behind by Kya. She began to take on many of the domestic responsibilities expected of women of the Southern Water Tribe, despite her young age. When Visola was around sixteen years old, her father, Chief Hakoda, left to fight in the Hundred Year War with the rest of the men of the Southern Water Tribe. Visola, Katara and Sokka were left in the care of their grandmother, Kanna. Though Kanna loved the three of them and cared deeply for them, Visola was left feeling alone and as she grew older, increasingly she felt like an outsider.
Personality:
Visola is considered to be pure of heart by those around her. Often taking a maternal role with Sokka and Katara following the death of their mother, Visola is wise and mature beyond her age but a deeply caring and compassionate young woman.
Visola is basically nice and reasonable with any person, and tries to get along with anyone who interacts with her, even if they are hostile to her.
She thinks about others before herself, and wouldn't hesitate to risk her life to save others, sometimes even people she doesn't know, but especially for those she does care for such as Sokka and Katara. This likely comes from having to raise Sokka and Katara and always putting their needs first.
Visola gives her enemies chances and allows them to redeem themselves. Sometimes, she even saves her enemies, after being their victims.
Visola shows her courage through actions, such as saving lives, or at least making life much easier for people in need, she is known to volunteer for charitable deeds, and she is known to be well-loved by the people because of how kind and generous she is. And most importantly, she expects no reward.
Visola felt lonely as she grew up, more so after Hakoda left, but she does her best to hide this from those around her.
Powers:
Hydrokinesis/Water-Bending: Visola can manipulate water molecules or moisture to freeze her surroundings. Visola can convert water to and from the three states of matter. Due to the vast amount of water and moisture available on Earth, Visola's only limit is her mental and physical capacity.
- Water Detection: Visola can sense the presence of water and possibly gain detailed information about the water she is sensing, including the amount/size of water she is sensing and whether it is hidden or not.
- Hydrokinetic Combat: Visola is able to utilize water with her physical combat, using it both as weapon and defense, summoning waves to batter her opponents or whips to cut or bind. She often creates a strong water shield.
- Water Propulsion: Visola can shoot water.
- Hydro-Telekinesis: Using a string of water, Visola can move objects with her mind.
- Hydrokinetic Regeneration: Visola can heal herself and others by using water molecules to repair and regenerate damaged cells and molecules.
- Water Solidification: Visola can harden water into an almost solid shape by increasing the surface tension of the water. She can use this power to walk on water and create a strong water shield.
Cryokinesis (limited): Visola can use cryokinesis to a small degree. She can manipulate frozen or icy water around her much like the Northern and Southern water-benders, though because she was raised in a more tropical environment, her skill isn't as refined as the other tribes.
Vitakinesis: Visola can heal most wounds and cure most poisons when in contact with water, the amount of water and time needed for the healing being proportionate to the severity of the wound.
Enhanced Vision: Visola's vision lets her see in the darker environment of the sea, as her eyes reflect all available light, giving them a distinct sheen in darkness. From her perspective, the seemingly dark environment of Atlantis is brightly lit, with the vivid and vibrant flora and fauna of the sea being as clear as though she were on land.
Amphibious Adaptation: Visola can survive both on land and in underwater environments for as long as she desires with no hindrance to her performance, unlike most Atlanteans.
Aquatic Respiration: Due to her Atlantean heritage, Visola is able to breathe both on land and underwater. This also allows her to clearly talk underwater with others as if she was above water.
Belongings:
Necklace: Visola wears her mother's betrothal necklace given to her by Jaso, this is Atlantean in design.
'Armour': Visola wears her mother's Atlantean inspired armour, gifted to her by Jaso and later given to Visola by Hakoda.
Pairing: Zuko
