The sovern air temple

Katara, Aang, and mayu were packing up their campsite while Aang and Mayu told about the astounding beauty of the Southern Air Temple,  "Wait until you see it, Katara!"

"The Air Temple is one of the most beautiful places in the world." Mayu says, tightening the rope around Appa's horns to make sure they wouldn't let go.

"Guys, I know you're excited, but it's been a hundred years since you've been home," Katara responded, finishing packing her sleeping bag to Appa's saddle.

"Duh. That's why it's so exciting." Mayu told the her, sitting on Appa's head with the reins in her hands.

"It's just, a lot of things can change in all that time." Katara told them.  "We know, but we need to see it ourselves," Aang said, jumping down and made his way over to a still-sleeping Sokka.

"Wake up Sokka! Air Temple, here we come!"  However, Sokka did nothing but grumbling and remained in his sleeping bag, "Sleep now. Temple later." Sokka turned over and began to snore.

Aang pouted before a mischievous smile made its way to his lips, picking up a stick, he slides it across Sokka's sleeping bag, "Sokka, wake up! There's a prickle snake in your sleeping bag!" He told him.  Sokka let out a scream, leaping to his feet, still in his sleeping bag, "Get it off! Get it off!" Only when he topples to the ground face-first did he realize that he has been tricked, mumbling under his breath.

"Great, you're awake! Let's go!" Mayu said, seeing Sokka awake, Katara had to suppress her laughter.

Meanwhile

Off the coast of the southwestern Earth Kingdom, Prince Zuko and docked at a Fire Nation controlled harbor, his ship needing substantial repairs after his recent encounter with Mayu and aang.  "Uncle, I want the repairs made as quickly as possible, I don't wanna stay too  long and risk losing their trail." Zuko said, walking out of the ship with Iroh behind him.

"You mean the Avatar and fanalis?" Iroh questioned, his hands on his back.  "Don't mention their names on these docks. Once words get out that the avatars alive every Firebender will be out looking for him and now there a fanalis. And I don't want anyone getting in the way." Zuko earned his uncle, not seeing somebody making their way towards them

"Getting in the way of what, Prince Zuko?"  The prince crossed his arms, "Captain Zhao."

"It's commander now." Zhao corrected him, before bowing, "And General Iroh, great hero of our nation."

Iroh bowed in respect, "Retired general."  "The Fire Lord's brother and son are welcome guests anytime. What brings you to my harbor?"

"Our ship is being repaired." Iroh told the middle-aged man.  Seeing damaged their ship was, he spoke, "That's quiet a bit of damage." His eyes slight widened.

"Yes. You wouldn't believe what happened." Zuko started, knowing he wanted to know the cause, "Uncle! Tell Commander Zhao what happened."  Iroh's eyes widened

"Yes. I will do that. It was incredible-" He then leaned over to Zuko, "What, did we crash or something?"

"Yes!" He struggled to continue, "Right into an Earth Kingdom ship."  "Really?" Zhao frowned, "You must retail all the thrilling details, join be for a drink?" He asked the young prince, unconvinced.  "Sorry, but we have to go." Zuko excused himself.  "Prince Zuko. Show Commander Zhao your respect." Iroh stopped his nephew from leaving, "We would be honored to join you." He told Zhao.

"Do you have any Jing Sang tea? It's my favorite." He asked as he walked with the commander, accepting the invite on behalf of his nephew.  Leaving Zuko to growl in annoyance before following them

Nearing the Patola Mountain Range, Sokka scolded his stomach, telling it to shut up since he was trying to find some food but all that came out were crumbs.  "Hey! Who ate all my blubbered seal jerky?" He complained, seeing the bag that was once full, now empty.

"That was food?" Aang asked, sitting on the railing of the saddle, "I used it to start the campfire last night." He said.

"You what?!" He pouted, "No wonder the campfire smelled so good." He remarked, falling on his back in defeat

" the potola mountain range!" Mayu points out

"We're almost there!" Aang cheered,.  "Guys, before we get to the temple, I wanna talk to you about the Airbenders." Katara looked down

"What about them?" Aang asked, refusing to sit back up.  "Well, I just want you to be prepared for what you might see." Katara started, her tone of voice catching the girl's attention, "The Fire Nation are ruthless, they killed my mother, they could've done the same to your people."  Mayu looked back at Aang, his knuckles turned white from how tight he grabbed his staff

"Just because no one have seen an Airbender doesn't mean the Fire Nation killed them all." Mayu smiled, looking back at Aang

"They probably escaped."   At her words, Aang seemed to brighten up, "They sure did!" He smiled.

"I know it's hard to accept." Katara sayd

"You don't understand. The only way to get to an Airbender Temple is one a flying bison and I doubt the Fire Nation have any flying bison," mayu stated

"Right Appa?" She petted the bison.  "Hold on!" Aang warned as Appa began flying straight up, approaching the top of the mountain, which pierces the clouds below, they looked down at the Southern Air Temple.  "There it is..."

"The Southern Air Temple." Aang finished for mayu as they smiled at the sight.  "It's amazing!" Katara exclaimed while Sokka, without admitting anything, watched as they neared the place in wonder.  "We're home, guys. We're home."

Elsewhere

Over tea in his tent, Commander Zhao outline the Fire Nation's plan for conquering the Earth Kingdom to Zuko and Iroh.  "If my father thinks the rest of the the world will follow him willingly, then he is an idiot." Zuko voiced his skepticism.

"Two years at sea have done little to temper your tongue." Zhao smirked, "So, how is your search for the Avatar going?"  Before Zuko could respond, his uncle, who looked at at the weapons in Zhao's tent, knocked them over, creating a mixmaster of clings and clangs.

"Uh. My fault entirely." Iroh admitted before backing away from the weapons, a little red in his cheeks out of embarrassment.  "We haven't found him yet." Zuko told the man, answering his previous question.  "Did you really expect to?" Zhao scowled, "The Avatar died a hundred years ago. Along with the rest of the Airbenders." What Zhao said made Zuko look down at the ground in thought.

"Unless you found some evidence that the Avatar is alive." Zhao persisted in his pursuit of information from Zuko.  "No." Zuko told him, "Nothing." He said, giving the commander a stern look.  "Prince Zuko," Zhao started, standing up, "The Avatar is the only one who can stop the Fire Nation from winning this war. If you have an ounce of loyalty left, you'll tell me what you found." Zhao got in Zuko's face.

"I haven't found anything. It's like you said, the Avatar probably died a long time ago." Zuko denied, looking Zhao in the eyes before standing up.  "Come on Uncle. We're going." After the heated exchange, the prince stood up and attempted to leave, only to be detained by Zhao's guards at the entrance to the tent. Their spear crossing.  "Commander Zhao. We interrogated the crew as you instructed. They confirmed Prince Zuko had the Avatar in custody but let him escape, with a girl with red hair like a fanalis."

" a fanalis?" Zhao smiled smugly while Zuko lowered his head in defeat, "Now, remind me, how exactly was your ship damaged?"

Back at the air temple

The group start walking towards the air temple after landing appa, Aang happily ran in front them, pulling Mayura with him.

"So where do I get something to eat?" Sokka asked, clenching to his stomach

"You're lucky enough to be one of the first outsiders to ever visit an Airbender Temple, and all you can think about is food?" Katara says

"I'm just a simple guy with simple needs." Sokka shrugged as they finally reached the Airbenders.

"So, that's where our friends and us would play Air Ball." Aang pointed, staring the siblings' tour.  "And over there is where the bisons would sleep." Mayu pointed at a cliff filled with human-made holes in it.

"And..." Aang trailed off, failing to see any Airbenders caused him to quickly become disheartened.   "What's wrong?" Sokka asked, hearing the sigh that escaped Aang's mouth.

"This place used to be full of monks and lemurs and bisons, now there's just a bunch of weeds."  Mayu head fell slightly, finally letting her fake smile fall, "I can't believe how much things have changed." Their clothes fluttered in the wind, dead trees at each side of them.

Katara and Sokka give each other a look of sympathy before quickly approaching the Airbenders.  "So uh, this air ball game. How do you play?" Sokka asked cheerfully, trying to distract the two from their sadness.

Mayu and Katara looked from the sidelines as Sokka had a concentrated look on his face while standing on a pole, guarding the goal of the Airball court

While Katara stood by Sokka, mayu sat in the snow on the other side of the court, where Aang also stood on one of the tall poles, suspending a hollow ball in the air with his Bending.

He lets the ball roll over his shoulders, tossing it from side to side and lazily tossing it up in the air.

He smiled innocently with his hands behind his back and his eyes closed.  He soon opened one eye as the ball came down again.

The Airbender jumped up and kicked the ball away with a powerful gust of wind.  It shoots across the poles, changing direction as it crashed into several poles, but steadily moved toward Sokka's goal.  Sokka grunted as the ball hit him right in the stomach.

The force of the impact sent him and the ball flying backward, right through the rotating door of the goal behind him.  Aang laughed and jumped in joy, "Aang, seven! Sokka, zero!" He shouted out, forming a Zero with his hands above his head.

Mayu stood up as he did, waiting for the Airbender to join her back on the ground.

"Making him feel better is putting me in a world of hurt." Sokka groaned painfully, laying in the dirt, twigs, and leaves on his head.

He erected himself, but before he got up completely, his eyes widened when he saw something in front of him and he crawls to the front.

An old Fire Nation helmet lying in the snow. It has been battered by the elements and showing signs of cracks and burns.  Sokka looked up at his little sister, "Katara, check this out."

"Fire Nation." She stated.  "We should tell them." Sokka told his younger sibling, a determined look on his face.

Katara nodded, agreeing with her brother for once, "Guys! There's something you need to see." She yelled after them.

Aang and mayu ran towards them, playing with the hollow ball by Air-kicking it back and forward as they did so.  "Okay!"  Katara's determined look, to tell the truth, shifted to one of insecurity.

She glanced from the helmet to the approaching Airbenders.

Suddenly she bring her arms up. With one swift movement, she swings her arms back, making the overhanging snow fall down, covering the helmet and her brother from sight.

"What is it?!" Aang asked excitedly as they ran up.

While they did so, Sokka brushed off of his head, looking at his sister.  "Uh... Just this new Waterbending move I learned." Katara struggled to make a lie.

"Great." Mayu complimented, smiling, "But no more training," Aang turned around and started to walk away, "We have a whole temple to see." Aang ran after mayu

Sokka brushed the last bit of snow from his head and shoulders, "You know, we can't protect them forever."  Katara sadly slanted her eyes and walked after Mayu and Aang.

The trio made it to a courtyard with a fountain in the middle.

The water frozen. Sokka and Katara stood at the entrance of the courtyard, while Aang ran up ahead excitedly, dragging Mayu with him by her arm.

"Katara, Firebenders were here. You can't pretend they weren't." Sokka crossed his arms, looking at her sternly.  Katara pushed passed her brother and in the direction, Aang pulled the fanalis girl

"I can for their sake." She said as Sokka pulled up beside her, "If they find out that the Fire Nation invaded their home, they'll be devastated."

"Hey, guys!" The two looked up to see mayu and Aang standing by two statue of a monk, and another that looked like a warrior with a mask, and pointing towards them

"We want you to meet some people!" Aang happily exclaimed with a closed-eyed smile.  "Who are they?"  Aang turned to face the statues, "Monk Gyatso. The greatest Airbender in the world." He turned back to the siblings, "He taught us pretty much."

"Pretty much? He taught us everything I know and they, that is goltus" mayu said pointing towards a statue of a man who had a mask over his have, but had one eye hole, while holding a sword " he trained me to handle my strength" mayu smiles " since as a baby...I broke anything i touched" she laughed softly at the memory while Aang laughed

" he looks, terrifying..." sokka said while hiding behind Katara, who rolled her eyes " he may look intimidating, but he was a kind man, he also protected the temple and provided for it, under the mask, like Monk Gyatso, he was like a father to us" Aang stated, the two airbenders both turned back to the statues, bowing in respect of the older man with a mustache and a round necklace sitting on a lotus with his fists bumped together in front of him, And the man with the sword and mask

Flash back

"But the true secret, is in the gooey center."  Monk Gyatso stood in front of an oven.

With the use of a long wooden paddle, he retracted an fruit pie out of the oven.

With the use of Airbending, he created a miniature tornado to spin out the fruity center on the pie.

Aang and Mayu were sitting on the ledge of the balcony, Aang looked over the temple, Aang was resting his left hand on his knee, his other leg dangling over the balcony while starring into nothing.

"Hmm..." he hummed, not really paying attention while mayu was occupied, looking around for someone, her teacher on strength

Gyatso walked over to the ledge as well and placed his newly baked cake next to three others that were already standing there.  "My ancient cake-baking technique isn't the only thing on your mind, is it, Aang?"

Mayu perked up from the question, putting his attention on the little brother

"It's this whole Avatar thing, maybe the monks made a mistake" he said

"The only mistake they made was telling you before you turned sixteen." Gyatso sighed

"but we can't concern with what was. We must act on what is." Gyatso extended his arm, making Both glance towards the beauty of the Southern Air Temple.

The sky was filled with several flying bisons with their calves who were feasting fro m the nearby trees. Sun beams bathe the scene in bright light.

"But Gyatso? How do I know if I'm ready for this?" Aang asked

"Your questions will be answered when you're old enough to enter the Air Temple Sanctuary. Inside, you'll meet someone who will guide you on your journey."

"Who is it?"  Aang asked, sitting in a different position

"When you are ready, he will reveal himself to you." Gyatso carried on in his soft tone. Aang annoyed by his unclear answer, grunts softly and looked to the sky before cupping her face in her hands

"Now, are you two helping me with these cakes or no?," Gyatso started, an almost invisible smile making it's way to the twos faces

"All right." The two agreed, standing up while Aang already stood by his teacher.  While mayu stood on the opposite side of him, all three took on an Airbending stance, bringing their hand back

"One."  "Two."  "Three!"  They shifted their weight to the front, each launching their air balls.

The small balls send the four fruit pies flying high in the air, disappearing in the clouds.  Four monks in lotus were peacefully meditating between some trees.

Suddenly, the cakes drop out of the sky and each of the monks is hit on the head by one of the colorful desserts.

The moment the pies hit their heads, several flying lemurs appeared and started to stuff their faces

Mayu eyes softened by the scene, Aang and Gyatso laughing loudly at the outcome.

Aang clutched his stomach, while Monk Gyatso was leaning on the railing of the balcony

They both move back from the railing when they finished laughing. The three Airbenders bowed at each other.  "Your aim has improved greatly," Gyatso caressed their heads as they stayed down in the bow

"My young pupils."

Just then a cake falls onto his head " Wha-" while the two stiffed from laughing, they all then heard the sound of a familiar person laughing

" goltus!" They cheered, air bending themselves and hugging him, he laughs while embracing the two " nice aim, I may not have air bending, but they won't stop me getting even, especially when an old friend splats a pie on my head when I'm preparing to go adventuring" he looked at his friend

Monk Gyatso laughs " finally got me back goltus?"

The man laughs " I promised I would"

All four laugh

Flash back end

The memory faded away as they stopped bowing, looking down, but the action wasn't caused by emotion.

"You must miss them." Katara said felt a hand being placed on her both their shoulders

"Sure." Mayu muttered before grabbing a sad Aang's wrist and pulled him along with her as she started to walk.

"Where are you going?" Sokka asked, curiosity in his voice.  Mayu walked up some stairs that lead to a corridor behind the statue, Aang following beside her.

She looked back while answering, "The Air Temple Sanctuary. There's someone I'm ready to meet." Aang says,  entered the hallway.  Katara looked questioningly at Sokka, who shrugged in response before they both follow the Air Nomads.

Both their feet echoed as stepped over the round symbol of intertwined air currents, the national symbol of the Air Nomads is largely embedded in the floor, surrounded by two square shapes that form some sort of sun together.

"But guys, no one could have survived in there for a hundred years."   they reached the entrance of the Air Temple Sanctuary.  The big door supports a combination of metal covered pipes and three, blue, rolled up, pipes that were similar looking, like the symbol of Airbending.

The large wooden door is framed by the branches of an old tree standing on the left side of it.  "It's not impossible." Aang spoke instead of his friend, "We survived in the iceberg for that long."

"Good point."

"Katara, whoever's in the might help me figure out this avatar thing" Aang says

"And whoever's in there might have a medley of delicious cured meals!" Sokka eagerly agreed, practically starting to drool over the thought.

Longing to get something in his stomach, Sokka charged at the door, but it wouldn't budge and he simply smacks into it.

He quickly turns around and put his back to it, trying to push the giant door open.

When the door doesn't move, he sighs, sliding down to the floor, disappointed, and rested against the door, "I don't suppose you have a key?" He asked

"The key, Sokka, is Airbending."  Aang pulled Sokka out of the way and over to the wall.

Aang took a deep breath. He spread his arms and thirst them upward, sending an air blast into both of the tubes on the door.  The air traveled through the right pipe.

The wind made one of the blue curled tubes turn around.

When it does, the tube changed colors to purple and the wind blew out like a horn.

The process repeated for the other two blue tubes as well.

When the three blue tubes turned and became purple, it unlocked and slowly started to open, as it does, light penetrated the dark room.

" hello?" Aang a voice echoed " anyone home?"

No reply

Him along with mayu enter and then sokka and katara

At the fire nation base

Zuko, who was sitting in a chair in Zhao's tent, flanked by two Fire Nation soldiers, watched while Zhao paced back and forth.  "So a twelve year old boy and teenage girl bested you and your Firebenders." Zhao stopped pacing " and not only that you let a fanalis, one the fire nations being hunting down for two years, you let get away? You're more pathetic than I thought."

"I underestimated them once, but it will not happen again!" Zuko responded angrily, his hands turned to fists.

"No, it will not. Because you won't have a second chance."   Alarmed, Zuko's eyes went wide, "Commander Zhao, I've been hunting the Avatar for two years and me-!"  Zhao turned around, spreading his flames in an arc, "And you failed! Capturing the Avatar is too important to leave in a teenager's hands."

He walked over to Zuko, almost tauntingly, "their mine now."  Filled with anger and frustration, Zuko rushed at Zhao.

Before Zuko could reach the commander, he was held back by the two guards. Each holding one of his arms in a lock.  "Keep them here." Zhao walked out of the tent, leaving an angrily panting Zuko.

Enraged, he kicked the table in front of Iroh, who peacefully enjoyed his tea, breaking it clean in two. Sending the objects that were on it flying through the room.  "More tea, please."

At the temple

Mayura, Aang, Katara, and Sokka were venturing further down into the sanctuary.

Their shadows are cast over the floor, they stopped, looking at the large amount of statues of people line up in a circular pattern.  "Statues? That's it? Where's the meat?!" Sokka question

"Who are all these people?" Katara asked no one in particular, stopping in front of one of the statues.

"I don't know "Aang says, seeing if the girl knew anything about it. "But it feels like I know them somehow."

"Look!" Aang pointed at the statue of a man with Airbending mastery tattoos in front of him, "That one's an Airbender."

"And this one's a Waterbender," Katara spoke out loud, pointing at the statue of a male dressed in Water Tribe clothes next to the Airbender.

Mayu looked to the right and back to the left, "They're lined up in a pattern. Air, water, earth and fire." She said, pointing at the respective statues

"That's the Avatar Cycle." Aang said.  "Of course. They're Avatars. All these people are your past lives, aang." Katara smiled

.  "Wow! There are so many." Aang started to walk down the circular pattern. Sokka went over to his sister, standing beside her with crossed arms

"Past lives? Katara, you really believe that stuff?" Sokka asked skeptically.

Aang stopped in front of a statue, "It's true." He heard mayu tell the older brother of the Water Tribe as she stared at the statue of an elderly man with a long beard.

"When the Avatar dies, he's reincarnated into the next nation in the cycle." Katara explained to her doubting brother.

Aang stared at the statue of the old man with wide eyes.

Its eyes gleaming for a second.

He wouldn't look away, he stared, mesmerized by the statue.

Katara appeared behind him, grabbing him shoulders and shakes him a bit, "Aang Snap out of it!"

"Huh?" He asked dazed. He smiled at the statue

"Who is that?" Katara asked

"That's Avatar Roku. The Avatar before me." Aang said as mayu walked up.  "You were a Firebender? No wonder I didn't trust you when we first met." Sokka crossed her arms

Katara looked at the base of the statue, "There's no writing. How do you know his name?"

"I'm not sure. I just know it somehow."

Sokka growled, "You just couldn't get any weirder."  The group startled and stared with big eyes in front of them when they heard something.

They turned around, The light on the floor that comes through the door, a long-eared shadow of another being that was approaching moves over it, but they couldn't be seen.

Mayu and Aang hid behind a statue on the left and Katara and Sokka, who is holding his club ready, hid behind a statue on the right.

The shadow crept closer. Katara had her teeth clutched in fright, while Maui had a stern look on her face, looking in front of her.  Sokka held his hand to his mouth as he addressed them, "Firebender. Nobody makes a sound." He whispered.  "You're making a sound!" Katara said irritated.  Putting their finger before their mouths, the rest of the group shushed her to keep silence.

Sokka raised his club, "That Firebender won't know what hit him." Sokka said as he stood up.

The shadow reached the bases of the statues, revealing a small figure standing in the doorway.

It chittered.

Sokka appeared from behind the statue, his club ready, but lowered it as soon as he saw the animal.

Mayu, Aang and Katara peeked from behind their statues, not expecting the view of a flying lemur, as it sat down and lowered its ears, blinking at the appeared foursome.  "Lemur." Mayu and aang cheered "Dinner!" Sokka drooled.

The lemur pricked his ear and slightly tilted his head.  "Don't listen to him. You're going to be my new pet." Aang reassured,

"Not if I get him first!" Sokka drooled.  Sokka stretched his hand while he excitedly lungs himself at the animal from behind the statue.

Aang ran up at the lemur as well. The lemur arcs his back in fright, his ears, hair, and tail standing up straight as the snathing hands of the humans drew closer

It startled, quickly turned around and made a break for it.

Sokka barely missed the animal and fell down.

Aang avoided tripping as well by using Sokka's head as a stepping stone. She ran after the lemur as Sokka quickly got up and run behind Aang and the lemur as they exited the sanctuary.

"Wait! Come back!"  Mayu and Katara behind for them to smile at their best friends.

The lemur bounced off the wall and chased down the hallway.

Aang and Sokka came sliding around the corner and chased it.

Sokka passed Aang by shoved him back.  As Sokka ran in the lead, Aang pulled up next to him again, smiling, Sokka took out his club and took a swing at his legs.

He avoided the club and used his Airbending to run on the side of the wall.

Smirking, Aang ran up ahead.

The Airbender ran on the floor again. She quickly turned around and directed an airball at Sokka, which knocked his legs from underneath him.

He flipped in the air before smacking his face-first on the ground, his hood falling over his head while he lands.

The lemur exited the corridor and sit on the ledge of a balcony, looking back at the approaching Aang

He pricked his ears again and took flight with a scared look on his face.

Running down the hall, Aang briefly glanced over to see if Sokka was following.

He too exited the hallway and without slowing down, she jumped over the ledge of the balcony.

The Airbender turned in the air and used some of the rocks to break his free-fall, jumping from one rock to another.

Just then, Sokka reached the balcony, stopping while looking over the rim, "Hey! No fair!"

With the fire prince

Back to the Fire Nation tent at the occupied Earth Kingdom harbor. Zhao was walking towards it.

Zhao pushed the cloths aside that serve as tent doors or enters.

The two guards, who held their spears in front of the exit, removed them to let Zhao pass.  "My search party is ready." Zhao told the Zuko and Iroh, who sat in two chairs in the middle of the tent.  "Once in out to sea, my guards will escort you back to your ship and you'll be free to go."

"Why? Are you worried I'm going to try and stop you?" Zuko asked, anger fueling within him.  "You? Stop me? Impossible." Zhao laughed out loud, Zuko got out of his seat, glaring at the commander, "Don't underestimate me, Zhao! I will capture the Avatar and fanalis before you!"

"Prince Zuko, that's enough." Iroh told his nephew sternly as he also raised from his seat.  Zhao smirked, "You can't compete with me. I have hundreds of war ships under my command and you?" He looked evil at the prince

"You're just a banished prince. No home, no allies. Your own father doesn't even want you."

"You're wrong!" Zuko growled at the man, "Once I deliver the Avatarto my father, he will welcome me home with honor, and restore my rightful place on the throne!"

"If your father really wanted you home, he would have let you return by now, Avatar or no Avatar." Zhao told him, his voice monotone, "But in his eyes you are a failure and a disgrace to the Fire Nation."

"That's not true."

"You have the scare to prove it."  With a cry of frustration, Zuko jolted forward and into Zhao's face, "Maybe you'd like one to match!" He shouted furiously.

"Is that a challenge?" Zhao questioned with slight mockery.  "An Agni Kai. At sunset."  "Very well." Zhao erected himself, "It's a shame your father won't be here to watch me humiliate you." Zhao turned around to leave

"I guess your uncle will do." With that, Zhao walked away.  "Prince Zuko, have you forgotten what happened last time you dueled a master?" Iroh, his uncle asked with worry.   "I will never forget."

At the Southern Air Temple

the lemur landed on the ground. The animal erected his ears as Aang landed on the ground behind him as well and launched forward.

The lemur jumped out of the way and Aang landed empty handed in the ground.

Aang s eyes followed the animal's escape as he ran through some ripped drapes, which once formed a tent, Aang got up

"Hey! Come back!" He pushed the decaying curtain of drapes out of the way, "Come on out, little lemur! That hungry guy won't bother you any more."  Aang walked up to another curtain of drapes. He parts them.

She looked into the room, but suddenly took a sharp breath.

Several skeletons dressed in Fire Nation uniforms was lying scattered over the floor, "Firebenders? They were here?"

He entered the room and looked around with a cold, yet shocked expression

Aang's eyes caught sight of a skeleton lying in the snow, surrounded by many more skeletons of Fire Nation soldiers.

The skeleton is adorned with a round necklace that supports the symbol of Airbending, his stared at the skeletons, the one dressed in yellow monk robes especially.

"Gyatso." He dropped to her knees, punching the ground in anger.

"Hey, Aang! You find my dinner yet?" Sokka asked, pulling the drapes aside and look around.

Seeing Aang on his knees, his head cupped in his hands, Sokka walked towards him. Reassuring

, "Aang, I wasn't really going to eat your lemur, okay?" He approached him with a smile on his face

"Oh, man." Sokka said, seeing the skeleton of the monk, he placed his a hand on Aangs shoulder,

"Come on, Aang. Everything will be alright. Let's get out of here."

Suddenly, Aangs arrow tattoos begin to glow a bluish white.

He lifted his head, eyes glowing the same color

Sokka retracted his hand and gasped for air in fright.

Inside the sanctuary where Aang and Katara and mayu were walking down the circular pattern of statues.

Aang stopped in front of the statue of Avatar Roku.

Katara stopped beside him, looking at the statue of an old man with a long beard.

Both of their eyes went wide when a bluish, white light illuminated their faces, it seemed to come from the statue.

Its eyes was gleaming bright. The bright light spread to the other statues and one by one, their eyes start to gleam. The light traveled from statue to statue, making its way all the way to the top of the sanctuary

.  "Aang " Katara breathed out, looking down, "Aang !" Mayu shouted in worry, she turned around and sprinted away.

Elsewhere

In another temple hidden somewhere in the mountains. Inside the temple is a man, dressed in typical green of the Earth Kingdom, sitting in front of a painting of past Earth Avatars.

Their eyes also began to glean brightly.   Somewhere on one of the poles, two Water Tribe civilians were were looking at the water temple's roof that flowed bright with bluish, white light.

At the Fire Temple, its roof glowed with a reddish light. Inside, one of the Fire Sages was leaning out of the room from which the light emanates.  "Send word to the Fire Lord immediately! The Avatar has returned!"

Back on the mountain

In the decaying building Aang was in at the Southern Air Temple, a whirlwind began to form.

The wind kicked away the bones around her before kicking up and form a sphere around him

eyes and tattoos still glowing brightly as her clothes flutter heavily in the wind.  Sokka hold up his arm to protect himself against the raging winds,

"Aang! Come on! Snap out of it!"  Suddenly, the air sphere around the girl expanded and sent Sokka flying backwards with a scream.

The roof exploded by the force of the hurricane and debris is catapulted high into the air.

Sokka spins through the air and smacked against the wall.

The air sphere had expanded to a raging tornado with Aang at the center

Sokka peeked at The boy from behind a rock.

Mayu and Katara walked up to Sokka with a struggle, holding their arms protectively before her face.  "What happened?!" She shouted, muffled a little by the hurricane

"He found out Firebenders killed Gyatso!" Sokka shouted back to the two.

Mayus eyes went wide, pain immediately shooting through him.  "Oh no! It's his Avatar Spirit!"

"He must have triggered it!" Mayu shouted over the winds, for now, he would focus, grieving later

"Im going to try and calm him down!" She started to make her way towards Her brother

"Well, do it!" Sokka shouted to the twelve-year old boy, holding on to the rock in an attempt to keep from being blown away, "Before he blows us off the mountain!"

The sphere of wind that engulfed The boy slowly started to rise in the air.

Mayu got pushed back by the strong wind currents that filled the remains of the building as the sphere ascended higher and higher.

Meanwhile

as the sun sets over the Fire Nation port, Commander Zhao and Prince Zuko were in a large courtyard.

"Remember your Firebending basics, Prince Zuko. They are your greatest weapons." Iroh told Zuko, who was squatting down.

He was bare-chested and barefooted and wore a cape over his shoulders.  "I refuse to let him win." Zuko told his uncle, confident in his choice.

He stood up and turned around. The cape dropping from his shoulders.  On the other side, Zhao did the exact same thing, "This will be over quickly." He confidently whispered to his soldiers.

The two opponents stared fiercely into each other's unblinking eyes for a brief moment, waiting for the other to strike.  Zuko started to lower his arms, leaving a trail of fire behind, he directed a strong fire blast at Zhao.

Zhao moved to the left, out of the way of the blast before moving back to the right to avoid another blast from the Prince.  The Prince sent two more strong blasts at Zhao. He crossed his arms in front of him and took the blasts head on.

He smirked at Zuko, who was panting heavily with his arms still stretched out from his last attack.  "Basics, Zuko!" Iroh, who was holding his fist up while rooting for his nephew, "Break his root!"  Zhao ferociously attacked Zuko with a strong fire blast. Zuko was thrown back a bit by the force of the flames while he diverts them to his sides.

Zhao took a step forward, directing another powerful blast at the Prince.  Zuko got thrown back again, but still diverts the flames away from him.

Zhao, who firmly placed his feet down, fired another strong blast.  Zuko got thrown back upon the impact and slide back several meters over the ground.  He lifted his head while grunting in pain. His expression turned to one of shock as he looks up and saw Zhao jumped to him.

He landed at Zuko's feet and thrusted his fist forward to deliver the final blow.  Zuko's golden eyes were wide open in fright as the fire reflected in them.

At the last possible second, Zuko rolled out of the way and swirled his feet around.   As he did so, he swiped Zhao's legs from underneath him before Zuko's feet were firmly planted back on the ground. He gave off a confident smile.

Zuko stepped forward, sliding fire at Zhao's feet, who stepped back.  Zhao, caught off guard, wobbled backward. Zuko kept repeating his move, directing his attacks at Zhao's feet in an attempt to throw him off balance.

Iroh smiled approvingly at his nephew as Zuko sent a powerful kick at his opponent. Zhao barely pushed it out out of the way while straggering back even further.  Zuko kicked again and this time he succeeded in knocking the commander over.

Zhao fell down and rolled over the ground, where he ends up on his back.  Zuko ran up to him and threatened him with an outstretched arm, ready to deliver the final blow.  Zuko narrowed his eyes at the commander.  "Do it!" Zhao shouted challenging.  Zuko grunted and thrust his fist forward, emitting another fire blast.   "That's it?" Zhao asked, glancing back at the black, smoking spot behind him, "Your father raised a coward."

"Next time you get in my way, I promise, I won't hold back." Zuko told the commander, his anger clearly shown in his voice, before his turned his back to Zhao and start to walk away.

Zhao erected himself, his back facing Zuko. Suddenly, he turned around and aim a powerful kick at Zuko, spreading his flames.  Before Zuko even noticed anything, Iroh intervened and grabbed Zhao's foot, dissolving the fire.

He tossed Zhao back and he slide away over the ground, grunting in pain as the ground scrapped his back.  Zuko went to charge at Zhao in pure anger, but Iroh stopped him.

"No, Prince Zuko. Don't taint your victory." He stopped the angered Prince before turning to face Commander Zhao, "So this is how the Great Commander Zhao acts in defeat?"  His expression turned Saturn as he looked at the defeated Commander, "Disgraceful. Even in exile, my nephew is more honorable than you." Zuko looked at Iroh upon hearing the last words leaving his mouth.  "Thanks again for the tea. It was delicious." Iroh thanked before he and his nephew turned around and started to leave, walking towards the gate of the arena.

Zhao partly erect himself, with his left arm resting on his knee, he grunted as he watched them go.

"Did you really mean that, Uncle?" Zuko asked softly as they left.  "Of course." Iroh started, smiling slyly, "I told you Ginseng tea is my favorite." A faint smile crossed Prince Zuko's lips.

Back with the others

Aang was still suspended in the air in the sphere, strong winds rampaged through the rubble of the destroyed building.

Katara and Sokka were holding on for dear life on some stones, trying not to get blown away, while mayura tried to get near the little boy in an unreachable state.

"Aang! I know you're upset about Gyatso! And now I know how hard it is to lose the people you love!" She shouted, her eyes filling up with tears

"I'm going through the same thing right now!" She diverted his eyes from the him.

His tattoos glowed brightly and the wind swirled around

"Gyatso and the other Airbenders may be gone, but we still have a family!" A tear slid down her cheek, "We still have each other! And now, we have Sokka and Katara here too!" She looked back at the two, who nodded

"We're in this together! We're a family! All of us!"

Aang slowly began to descend, they all watched as he slowly lowered back to the ground, the wind dying down and the sphere around his disappear as her feet touch the ground.

His eyes and tattoos were still glowing bluish white as the trio quickly made their way to her, mayu engulfing him into a hug,

The other two walk over, the glowing began to fade away, his eyes turned saddened as he returned the hug.

"Katara and I aren't going to let anything happen to you two. Promise." Sokka told the two in a gentle voice.  "I'm sorry." Aang apologised in a whisper.  "It's okay. It wasn't your fault." She said

"But they were right." Aang sighed, not letting go of mayu when she could feel him whimper, "And if the Firebenders found this temple, that means they found the other ones, too."

Aang's body began to shake in Mayus arms.

She looked up at the siblings, "We really are the last Airbenders." Aang whimpered as he cried in Mayu arms.

" but...someones missing..." she said looking around " where's goltus?" She murmured while the group looked around, " he'd never leave gyasto's side..."

there was no skeleton resembling the man, no mask, no sword

Back inside

In the Statue Sanctuary, Aang stood in front of Roku's statue again.  "Everything's packed. You ready to go?" Katara asked the him, walking up.  "How if Roku supposed to help me if I can't talk to him?" He asked, more to herself than anyone else.

"Maybe you'll find a way."  They glanced at each other when they hear something behind them.

They turned around to see the flying lemur standing on its back legs in the middle of the door way.

The animal jumps to the right, towards where Sokka stood. The animal reaches his feet and drops the load he was carrying, a variety of fruits.

The lemur then quickly dashed away as Sokka sit down and starts to stuff his face with the food. Taking large bites of two different pieces of fruit.

"Looks like you made a new friend Sokka!" Aang laughed a little.

"Can't talk! Must eat!" Sokka muttered, his mouth full before he take yet another bit.

The flying lemur climb onto Aang and hides behind his head, his tail curled around her neck, "Hey, little guy."

Time skip

"You, me, mayu and Appa." Aang spoke to the lemur as he looked at the Southern Air Temple from a distance, "We're all that's left of this place."  He looked at the lemur sitting on his shoulder "We have to stick together."

"Guys." He called, turning to look at the trio, who were readied their luggage for the flight, "Say hello to the newest member of our family." He said as he approached the group

"What are you going to name him?" Katara asked

the lemur leaps off his arm and returns, holding a peach in his paws, starting to nibble on it.

"Momo."  Sokka still stands there, mouth open and hand in front of his mouth, ready to take a bite, however, he has no peach anymore.

The others start to laugh upon seeing Sokka's expression.
