Warrior Dream Walker
*Italics= Na'vi Language or Jake's Narration of the Story
Tsu'tey yipped and began to ride forward. Jake was grabbed and restrained by some of the warriors and brought into home tree. I hopped down with Tsu'tey and waited for Jake to show with the other warriors. Our people moved away from him frightened as to why he was here. As he was brought forward I grabbed his arm and guided him into the center of the circle, seeing my Father standing their speaking with Neytiri and Tsu'tey. I gave his arm a gentle squeeze and a look that said don't worry.
"Father. I see you." I greeted him as I walked away from Jake and my father walked towards me.
Father nodded at me once and walked towards Jake. He eye'd him quickly and Jake nodded in greeting as well, unable to understand anything that was happening.
"This creature, why do you bring him here?" Father asked concerned.
"I heard from the All Mother today, that I had some place I needed to be. A spirit to meet and protect, Father. I've been trailing him all day. He might be a bit... ignorant and slow. But ask, Neytiri. She was going to kill him, but there was a sign from Eywa herself." I assured him.
"Neytiri? Is this true?" Father asked, turning towards his daughter as she entered next to us.
"It's true. Y/n was right about her feeling, and Eywa showed herself to us today through one of her seedling spirits." Neytiri nodded.
"I have said since the last time this nonsense occurred, that no dream walker will come here." Father shouted and we both flinched.
"What's he saying?" Jake whispered to me as he got closer, nearly pressing himself against my back.
"His alien smell fills my nose." Father crinkled his nose in disgust, making the people laugh.
"My father is deciding whether to kill you." I whispered back to him. I pushed him back slightly, seeing Tsu'tey coming forward towards us, making him back off slightly.
"Your father?" Jake hummed and stepped around me. "It's nice to meet you, sir." Jake reached out his hand.
We all stepped forward and pulled him away from our Chief.
"Stay back!" I warned him quickly.
"Step back!" Mother shouted as she came down the tree trunk. Everyone quieted and backed away from Jake, including me. "I will look at this alien."
"That is mother." I explained as she approached. "She is Tsahik. The one who interprets the will of Eywa."
"Who's Eywa?" Jake asked.
Mother stepped around him, viewing his braid and his tail. I could tell by her stance she felt what I did. The purity that radiated from off him.
"What are you called?" Mother asked him. I watched curiously, interested as well.
"Jake Sully." He answered her. Mother pulled the bone dagger from her necklace and stabbed it into his chest, producing a drop of blood. She lifted it to her mouth and tasted it.
"Why did you come to us?" Mother demanded.
"I came to learn." Jake told her honestly.
"We have tried to teach other Sky People. It is hard to fill a cup which is already full." She warned.
"Well, my cup is empty, trust me." Jake smirked and chuckled. "Just ask Dr. Augustine. I'm no scientist."
"What are you?" Mother asked curiously.
Jake made eye contact with me and I gestured my head for him to speak.
"I was a marine. A, uh... A warrior of the Jarhead Clan." He relayed to us nervously.
Somehow this did not surprise me. The All Mother would not send someone here without good reason. It intrigued me and I smiled.
"A warrior!" Tsu'tey stepped forward as he scoffed. "I could kill him easily!" He yelled and Father stopped him.
"No! This is the first warrior Dream walker we have seen. If Y/n says this was a sign. Then so be it. We must learn more about him." Father instructed our people. Tsu'tey gave a disapproving look and I sighed in relief that he would not be killed.
"My daughter." Mother approached me. "You will teach him our way..."
"Wait, what?!" I gasped and frowned.
"To speak and walk as we do."
"Why me? I did my duty and brought him here. That is not fair." I exclaimed in annoyance.
"Enough." Mother said calmly and I hissed shuffling my feet into the dirt. "It is decided. My daughter will teach you our ways. Learn well, Jakesully. Then we will see if your insanity can be cured."
Jake nodded once at her in understanding. The crowd of villagers dispersed and Neytiri snickered at my annoyed face. I rolled my eyes and shoved her shoulder.
"How am I supposed to teach him! He is... He is a moron!" I groaned and pointed at him, as he followed behind the two of us. "The All Mother said nothing about this. Not to me."
"Sister, all will be fine. If anyone here is capable of showing this buffoon our way of life, it's you. I'll help if you need it. But I believe in you." She placed a comforting hand on my shoulder and we both looked back at Jake who was staring at us.
"I'm starting to get the feeling that you're talking about me and that it's not so good." Jake pointed out with a frown.
"You're right." I nodded and kept walking.
"Wait, where are we going now?" He asked quickly, picking up his stride.
"We must prepare for dinner. You cannot come dressed like that." I eye'd him up and down in disgust. We stopped at the sow makers and I gestured to Jake. "He needs appropriate Na'vi clothing, please." I bowed my head and the three woman looked at him with increasing frowns.
"We should have something that will do, Princess." She bowed back to me. "Lift." She stepped up to him and commanded, tapping his arms. She took out a rope and began measuring him. Jake moved around as she did so, making the seamstress sigh, and keep moving him back.
"Stay still, or we will miss dinner." I rolled my eyes in annoyance.
"Okay, sorry." Jake groaned.
She finished with her measurements and dug around through the weaved baskets of pre-made pieces. Shoving the cloth into his hands. Jake looked at it and then back at her and then me.
"Wait. Is this it?" Jake asked.
"Yes?" I tilted my head at him confused.
"There's, uh, not a whole lot here. To cover up... Well." He gestured to his lower body parts in a circle and I sighed.
"Do you want to learn?" I growled and placed my hands on my hips. He nodded. "Then put it on." I demanded.
Jake sighed rolling his eyes and began to take off his clothing. I stood and waited for him, watching his chest become bare. Ive seen many naked bodies, as that was normal for us. But seeing his makes my cheeks heat up. As he took the shirt off and over his head he looked at me uncomfortably.
"Uh, I can't change if you're watching me." He pointed out. "I mean, I'm glad to see you're enjoying the view, but to be fair I still don't even know your name." He smirked.
"Moron." I huffed and turned around allowing him his privacy. "My name is Y/n te Tskaha Mo'at'ite" I grumbled.
"I'm sorry what?" Jake asked.
"Y/n. My name is Y/n." I rolled my eyes.
"Y/n." He said softly with a chuckle, liking the way it fell off his lips.
Once Jake was changed I led him up to the top of Home Tree, where the villagers were gathered. I smiled being able to hear the chanting and singing, along with the music. I turned to see Jake was still behind me, but he was pulling at the cloth again. I smacked his hand and glared, before I kept walking. I easily passed through my people and turned, waiting for Jake. They all stopped singing and playing music and talking as Jake approached the outer rim of the circle.
"G-Good evening." Jake greeted them nervously, seeing them all stare. "Please don't get up." He chuckled and started to walk towards me. "Excuse me." Jake said as he made his way through the people. His tail wracking some of them uncontrollably and stepping on some other tails, making them hiss. "Sorry."
I have so much work ahead of me. I sighed to myself shaking my head. Jake finally made it to me and I pushed him down by his shoulder. I grabbed him a leaf of maggots and gave it to him. Before walking and taking my spot in between Neytiri and Tsu'tey, near my Mother and Father. Dinner passed by without any incidents surprisingly.
As much as I was curious to get to know Jake, I knew I was only doing this as a duty to my people. I couldn't allow myself feelings, I was betrothed. But, the All Mother did say he was the one who was supposed to hold my hand. I wished her messages weren't always so cryptic and that she could just come out and say Y/n, this man is your soulmate and my gift to you.
"Y/n?" Jake waved his hand in front of my face as I had stopped walking in front of my weaved hammock bed that hung below. "So, what now? You looked at little spaced out there."
"I'm fine." I hissed and then sighed, not meaning to be so harsh. "We go to bed." I pointed below and he looked down.
"Uh, so we sleep together?" He smirked and I rolled my eyes.
"No. That would be... Inappropriate." I said annoyed. "Yours is that one." I pointed to the empty one next to mine and quickly climbed down.
Jake watched and not so gracefully copied me, getting down into his own bed. Once he made himself comfortable he turned and rested his head in his hand, his elbow hoisting him up. I simply turned away from him, pulling on the side of the hammock, allowing it to cover over me and I closed my eyes. Jake seeing what I did, touched the hammock allowing it to cover over himself as well, closing his eyes and getting to sleep.
3rd Person POV:
Jake's eyes had closed inside the hammock allowing him to get to sleep. Breaking the connection from the Avatar back to his human body. The world was bright for him and he could hear many voices, that sounded concerned.
"Jake? Jake!" Grace's voice echoed in his head.
"He's in Alpha." Max stated, looking over the monitors.
"Jake! Jake!" Grace repeated as Jake's eye's opened. She was hovering over him, flashlight in his eyes. Alongside Max and Norm, all looking at him concerned. "Come on back, kid. Come on. That's it." She tapped his face gently with a sigh of relief. "There ya go. You're okay."
Jake coughed and gasped coming out of the link. A wide smile crossed his face as he looked up at his co-workers.
"Damn it, you were dug in like a tick." Grace explained, helping him sit up from the pod. Jake groaned. "Is the avatar safe?"
"Yeah, Doc." Jake grinned as he looked at her concerned face. "And you are not gonna believe where I am."
He laughed and she looked at him confused. He explained everything to her and to say Grace was surprised was an understatement. She couldn't believe this Buffoon of an ex-marine had been the one to get into the Omaticaya's good graces. What shocked her even more was how he lit up when he talked about Y/n. She knew about her, knowing she had skipped the line of succession to become the next Tsahik, only she didn't know why. But she also knew she was betrothed to Tsu'tey and the smile on Jake's face made her uneasy.
The next morning at breakfast, they sat around the table telling the story of what had happened to some of their co-workers.
"The last thing we see is this Marine's ass disappearing into the brush with this angry Thanator coming after him." Grace explained.
"Hey, it's not something you can teach." Jake chuckled, eating his oatmeal.
"That is awesome." Max laughed.
"You know, for reasons I cannot fathom, the Omaticaya have chosen you. God help us all." Grace shook her head in disbelief and let out a small chuckle.
Unknown to the others, Norm sat at the other end of the table eating his food silently and looked down at Jake with hidden anger and jealousy. Had he not been the one to have been trying for years for this? And suddenly this... This stranger with no training comes in and takes the spotlight from him.
Jake was called to meet with Colonel Quaritch to report on the slew of rumors flying around the base. When he rolled in he explained everything that had happened, everything he said and managed to gain his way into the Omaticaya clan. Everything about it was exactly what he had asked for from Jake and this made the Colonel very happy.
"Jarhead Clan?" He asked to clarify and Jake nodded, making Quaritch laugh. "And it worked?"
"Hey, I'm practically family." Jake joked. "They're gonna study me. I have to learn to be one of them." He explained.
"That's called taking initiative, son." Quaritch stated proudly. "I wish I had ten more like you."
"Look, Sully. Sully." Parker called out to him from across the holographic table map of Pandora. "Just find out what the blue monkey's want. You know, I mean, w-we try to give them medicine, educations, uh, uh, roads. But no, no, no, they like mud. And that wouldn't bother me, it's just that they're, uh... Hey can you?" He snapped his fingers as he tried to adjust the holographic map. "Can. Somebody just... Sector 12. Go, go, go. Stop. Jesus. Their damn village happens to be resting on the richest unobtanium deposit within 200 hundred kilcks in any direction. I mean, look at all that cheddar!" Selfridge exploded with excitement.
They all looked at the hologram, showing the surface layers of Unobtanium underneath Home Tree. Hearing the way they talked about the Omaticaya people, made Jake slightly uneasy. There was just something about the one that saved him that only slightly made him question if he was doing the right thing. But of course, he had only just met this girl. He shook away his feelings and thoughts before looking up at Selfridge.
"Well, who gets them to move?" He asked curiously.
"Guess." Quaritch stated and Jake scoffed, letting an annoyed smile cross his face.
"And what if they won't go?"
"Aw, I'm betting that they will." Quaritch smirked.
"Okay, okay, okay. Hey. Look, look." Parker Selfridge sighed. He walked closer to Jake and nearly whispered as he spoke. "Killing the indigenous looks bad, but there's one thing that shareholders hate more than bad press, and that's a bad quarterly statement. I didn't make up the rules. So just find me a carrot that'll get them to move. Otherwise, it's gonna have to be all stick. Okay?"
"You got three months." Quaritch explained quietly. "That's when the dozer's get there."
"Well, we're wasting time." Jake twitched his head and gave them a fake smile.
"I like this guy!" Parker laughed, slapping Jake on the shoulder.
"Guy's, right now!" Max called out to the link crew, trying to set up the stations.
Jake came back from his meeting with the Colonel and Selfridge. Grace had been teaching him and making him go over the faces of the Omaticaya people so he could learn something as a human before getting back to the Avatar. Maybe to prevent him from being a complete fool.
"Okay, let's run through them again." Grace informed him as they walked and rolled towards the pods.
"Mo'at. Dragon lady." Jake stated as she showed him a picture of her on the tablet. "Eytucan."
"Eytukan." Grace corrected his failure to pronounce the name. "He's the Clan leader. But she's the spiritual leader. Like a shaman."
"Got it." Jake nodded and began to pull himself into the open pod. "T'su'tey." Jake nodded at the new picture.
"Tsu'tey." Grace corrected him again.
"Tsu'tey."
"He'll be the next clan leader." Grace explained and flicked the screen again.
"Neytiri." Jake stated looking at the picture. "Princess of the Omaticaya."
"Right and this?" Grace asked as she flicked the screen again. She watched as his eyes shined, seeing Y/n's face.
"Y/n." He said softly, a smile appearing on his face.
"She'll be the next Tsahik." Grace mentioned and watched his face. "She and Tsu'tey, will become a mated pair."
"So who's this Eywa?" Jake asked changing the subject.
"Who's Eywa?" Norm scoffed, shocked. "Only their deity. Their goddess, made up of all living things. Everything they know! You'd know this if you had any training whatsoever."
"Who's gotta date with the chief's daughter?" Jake smirked as he held up Y/n's picture.
"Oh, come on. That's not..." Norm began to argue, before Grace stepped forward.
"All right, knock it off, you two." Grace rolled her eyes. "Let's go. Village life starts early." She looked down at Jake while he laid down into the Pod. "Don't do anything unusually stupid." She warned and Jake rolled his eyes with a smile.
