Attack on The Tree of Voices

*Italics= Na'vi Language or Jake's Narration of the Story

The next morning, everything was peaceful and perfect. I was asleep in Jake's arms. Our position had changed, with him behind me, arm draped over my side and my head on his arm like a pillow. His head gently resting on mine. Until I felt I shooting pain through my soul. I gasped and opened my eyes quickly, hearing the sounds of beeping, meaning RDA machinery was close. The pain stung again, even worse this time and I screamed in pain.

I got up quickly and looked behind us to see through the trees were giant bulldozers coming straight for us. Tearing down any trees in their path. The pain was the worst I had ever felt and I sobbed seeing the Ancient Trees of Voices being torn down. I looked back down at Jake's peaceful sleeping body and began to shake him desperately with one hand while the other clutched my stomach.

"Jake!" I cried out through my tears. "Ma Jake, please! Wake up!"

"Don't forget your phase interrogation." Norm said to human Jake as he climbed into the pod, preparing the monitors himself to link back to his Avatar. "No, no, the middle button." He explained as he wheelied himself in Jake's wheel chair.

"Jake!" Grace called out to him. "You gotta eat something." She walked around the corner with a plate and a glass for him.

"Yeah, there ya go." Norm nodded.

"Jake! Jake, Wake up! Jake, please." I continued to cry for him, but it was clear he wasn't coming too any time soon. The bulldozers were approaching and I wasn't about to let them run him over. So I stood up and wrapped my arms under his and began to pull him backwards with me.

"Don't make me force feed a cripple." Grace chuckled alongside Jake and Norm.

"Grace, I don't want... Hey!" Jake protested as she shut down the pod machine. He wanted nothing more than to return to his body and get back to me.

Trees began to fall around us and I grunted, bending down in pain and a tree fell, nearly falling onto Jake's legs. I pulled with all the strength I had in me trying to get him to safety.

Jake sat on the pod and scarfed down the scrambled eggs Grace had made him. She chuckled watching him eat.

There was a large trunk on the ground and I forced myself over it first, before reaching back down and grabbing Jake's arm, pulling his body as hard as I could up towards mine. If he didn't wake up soon. We were both going to be dead. The bulldozers approached closer and closer, knocking down everything in their path. I panicked seeing the machines coming, but even more so seeing the Ampsuits, carrying large guns and soldiers walking alongside them on the ground.

"Jake, Jake. Please!" I hissed as I grabbed his belt and pulled.

Jake swallowed down the milk and handed the plate and cup back to Grace. Norm began setting up the link monitors again.

"Here, I'm done." Jake said quickly. "Let's go."

"And when was the last time you took a shower?" Grace asked as he laid down in the pod. She lifted his shirt and scrunched her nose.

    "I don't need a shower!"

"Jesus, Marine." Grace rolled her eyes at his impatience.

He quickly covered himself with the metal machinery and started to close the pod.

"JAKE!" I screamed desperately. "Jake, wake up! Jake! Wake up!" I cried. I shook him hard and his eyes finally opened.

He looked up at me confused until he saw a tree falling behind us. Quickly, he stood to his feet and pulled me behind him, moving us off to the side as the tree fell. He left me and ran forward towards the large machine and my eyes widened. He jumped up and down waving his arms in the air.
"Hey!" He shouted, trying to gain their attention. "Stop! Stop!"

I cried out in pain as more of the sacred trees fell. Jake turned and looked at me horrified, before trying again.

"Jake!" I cried out for him.

    "Go back, stop!" Jake screamed.

A camera rotated on the top of the bulldozer and looked down at Jake and I, showing up on the control screens.

"Hey, boss." The man called out to Parker from the Hell's Gate base. Remotely controlling the dozer from there. He stopped moving the dozer and waited as Parker walked over to him.

    "What?"

"I got a native doing the funky chicken here. He's blocking my blade."

Parker leaned down and looked at the monitor.
"Well, keep moving. He'll move." Parker shrugged, talking with his mouth full. "These people have to learn that we don't stop. Come on. Go, go, go." He moved the control for him and the bulldozer started up again.

"Jake, it hurts! Everything hurts!" I cried out.

"I know, baby. I know." He shushed me quickly, but we both gasped as the dozers continued to move again. Jake and I fell backwards. He jumped back up as a tree came down towards us, grabbing my arm, hoisting me up with him. "Go, run!"

I held tightly to his hand and we both ran through the trees.

"There, see? He moved." Parker pointed out.

"Go, Y/n. Keep running and don't stop." Jake stopped us quickly and kissed my forehead. He left me again and ran straight back towards the Bulldozers and I gasped, wanting to go after him.

I quickly decided against it and ran through the pain, through the forest trying to stay away from the upcoming dozers. I made it a little ways and stopped, in hopes to wait for him. Jake ran back at them and jumped onto the side of the dozer, quickly climbing up the large piece of machinery to the very top. Angry at the people for causing me so much pain, for destroying sacred trees, for ruining what should have been a perfect morning. He took the stone in his hand he had picked up on his way up and began smashing the cameras.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa." The operator said as Jake appeared on the screen, smashing the cameras, making each of the screens start to go black. "Dude, dude, no! Aw!" He groaned as the last camera went out. "I'm blind!"

The people on the ground heard the smashing and and looked up to see Jake, unknowing it was him in his Avatar form attacking the dozer. One of the soldier lifted his gun and began shooting at him. Jake quickly stopped hitting the cameras and ducked down. Leaping off the dozer, crashing into the forest below and running away from the constant gun fire. I looked around the forest and closed my eyes trying to feel him. I could feel his heart beating very quickly and I knew he was close.

"Jake!" I yelled out for him as I looked around.

"Y/n!" He called back. I followed the sound of his voice and quickly found him, jumping into his arms. Tears stained my face. "Come on! Quickly!" He ushered me forward and away from the chaos.

Tsu'tey rode in with his warriors, behind the damage caused by the bulldozers. They watched pained as a once sacred place was now gone. Destroyed. He couldn't help but worry over me, knowing I would have felt all of that.

Jake and I hid in the tree line and I sobbed into his chest. While he watched the dozers roll by. He punched the tree beside us angrily and his other hand stayed wrapped around my body.

The operator called upon Parker to see what had happened, leading to him grabbing Quaritch as well. They reviewed the last of the footage, showing Jake's Avatar destroying the cameras.

"Freeze it right there." He stated quickly during play back. "Scale up. Enhance."

"Son of a bitch." Parker sighed seeing Jake's face clear as day. "Unbelievable." He scoffed and walked away from the screen.
Colonel Quaritch looked immediately pissed off at this revelation and started to walk out of the room barking orders.

    "Get me a pilot!"

    "Yes, sir."

Jake nearly carried me back to Home Tree as my bones felt like they were on fire and not in a good way. As soon as we entered, Neytiri gasped and rushed forward, taking part of me from Jake's arms. Tsu'tey had already made it back and informed Father of the destruction. This was the final straw and created war between the Sky People and the Omaticaya's.

"Tsu'tey will lead the war party!" Father demanded.

He raised his staff in the air and the clan yipped and shouted war cries. Tsu'tey raised his bow in the air, creating a bigger out cry. Grace ran forward through the people to try and diffuse the situation.

"Calm! Stop, please!" She shouted, causing everyone to quiet down and look at her. "This will only make it worse."

"You do not speak here!" Tsu'tey demanded, pointing the end of his bow at her. "We will strike them in the heart!" He raised his bow above his head again, causing everyone to shout their war cry's.

Neytiri and Jake both escorted me through the crowd. I placed my hand on her arm and she nodded, letting go. My hand linked proudly with Jake's and the three of us stepped forward.

"Tsu'tey don't do this!" Jake called out to him.
"You!" Tsu'tey cried out in anger. He gave his bow to someone else and charged at Jake seeing our intertwined hands. Jake quickly let go of me and put up his hands.

"Listen, brother." Jake tried to calm him, but Tsu'tey placed his hands on his shoulders and roughly pushed him down to the ground.

"This is your fault!" He screamed.

"Tsu'tey!" I yelled and stepped in between them placing my hands on his chest. The small connection we once had was now gone forever and he knew it.

"You mated with this woman?!" He exclaimed angrily, his voice breaking near the end.

    "Oh, shit." Grace gasped.

"Y/n." Neytiri sighed, coming to my side. I saw the look in her eyes and she wasn't mad. She was happy for me.

"Is this true?" Mother stepped forward and asked me sternly.

"We are mated before my mother, Eywa. Her blessing was given. It is done." I stated, standing firmly. Jake came up from behind me and linked our hands together.

I gave Tsu'tey a small sympathetic glance and his body quivered in anger and sadness. His breaths uneven.

"Y/n was promised to me!" Tsu'tey hissed at my parents. "Everything is changing. Everything is being destroyed! These aliens!" Tsu'tey pointed at Grace and Jake. "They kill everything they touch like poison."

"Y/n." Mother called out to me. Her voice filled with disappointment. "If you choose this path. You can never be Tsahik! Your life will be ruined and wasted."

I turned and looked at Jake, knowing my choice was the right one. Even if I didn't become Tsahik. She blessed this relationship and that was all that mattered to me. And being with Jake.

"Then so be it. I have chosen him under the approval of Eywa." I stated, placing my hand on Jake's chest. Mother sighed and walked towards Father, his head hung in disappointment.

"Brother, please. Do not attack the sky people." Jake asked of Tsu'tey. "Many Omaticaya will die if you do."

Tsu'tey's back was turned as he walked away. Quivering in anger after hearing my declaration of love for Jake and not him. Hearing Jake's voice sparked something in him. He slowly turned and took out his dagger.

"You are not my brother!" He screamed and ran at Jake.

"No!" I yelled. Mother and Neytiri pulled me back away from the fight.

He charged at Jake, but Jake was faster. He shoved Tsu'tey away from him to the ground. Jake pulled out his dagger as Tsu'tey stood back to his feet. Many people around us called out and removed their own daggers.

"And I am not your enemy!" Jake yelled back at him.

I tried to get back to Jake, but Father intervened and pulled me back towards Grace, Mother and Neytiri at my side. What surprised everyone was the fact that Jake threw his dagger down to the ground, leaving him defenseless. This made the other Omaticaya lower their daggers.

"The enemy is out there, and they are very powerful!"

Norm sat in the camp and looked outside hearing and seeing a helicopter come flying in. Soldiers quickly dropped out and ran towards the doors and he knew there was trouble.

"I can talk to them." Jake tried to explain.

"No more talk!" Tsu'tey let out a yell and charged at Jake again. They spun around each other and his blade slashed Jake's chest. I fought my parents hold.

    "Tsu'tey!" I yelled out angrily.

He tried to charge him again, but Jake ran forward, grabbing his arms, kneeing him in the abdomen and punching him in the face hard. Tsu'tey fell to the ground with a grunt. He slowly stood up and wiped his mouth of the little bit of blood that trickled down his chin.

"I am Omaticaya. I am one of you." Jake breathed heavily. "And I have the right to speak! I have something to say. To all of you." Jake closed his eyes and took a deep breath. When he opened them he faced me and I felt my heart breaking for the sorrow that filled his eyes. "The words are like stones in my heart." He stated gently and I looked at him confused and worried.

Inside the camp they cleared the airlock chamber and charged inside. Colonel Quaritch at the head of the troops. Norm quickly came around the corner to confront them.

"Sir, I'm sorry. No, no, no. Hold on!" Norm desperately tried to keep him out of the link chamber room. "You can't interrupt a link in progress!" Norm was slammed into the wall behind him, as Quaritch pushed through. "This is very dangerous!"

He charged forward and slammed down on the big red stop button on Grace's pod first.

Inside the village Grace suddenly collapsed to the ground.

"Grace!" Neytiri yelled worriedly. She quickly ran to her and I moved away from my parents to check on her too. We bent down next to her to see that she still had a pulse.

    "Oh, no." Jake gasped.

"Wait!" Norm yelled desperately as he was pinned down by a soldier.

    "Stay down, sir!"

"Okay, look." Jake said nervously. The button was pressed. "I was sent here too..." His eyes rolled into the back of his head.
    "Jake!" I yelled out worriedly.

His body collapsed to the ground and Tsu'tey was the first one to him. He growled and leapt on top of his motionless body and stuck his dagger underneath his throat.

"You see? It is a demon in a false body! He deserves to die!" He growled and moved the dagger.

The moment he had stepped over Jake's body anger filled me and I ran at him. Tsu'tey moved his dagger to cut Jake's neck and I jumped onto his back, tackling him off from my mate. We both hissed and growled at each other as we rolled. I quickly stopped my body and hovered over Jake's with my dagger out protectively. I barred my teeth and hissed at anyone who tried to come close. Tsu'tey stood back up in a crouched position, teeth barred as well. He frowned quickly and huffed at me. Walking around Jake in a big circle and away.

3rd Person POV:

Jake gasped as though he was having a heart attack. His pod opened and noticed the soldiers in the room alongside Colonel Quaritch.

"Are you out of your god damn mind!" Jake yelled as he sat up.

"You crossed a line." Quaritch smirked before punching Jake in the face, making him black out. "Wheel this meat out of here."

"Jake! What the hell is going on here?" Grace called out for him. She struggled in the grips of soldiers that weren't supposed to be there.

The three of them were brought back to Hell's Gate base, and once Jake was coherent again, they showed him the footage so he couldn't try to deny what he'd done.

"You let me down, son." Colonel sighed. "So, what you find yourself some local tail and you just completely forget what team you're playing for? Oh, no that's right, she's a special piece of tail isn't she?" He smirked and Jake was held back by two soldiers.

"Parker, there is time to salvage this situation. Parker..." Grace exclaimed angrily.

"Shut your pie hole!" Quaritch yelled in her face.

"Or what, Ranger Rick?" Grace scoffed, squaring up with him. "You gonna shoot me?"

"I can do that." Quaritch replied simply.

"You need to muzzle your dog." Grace growled as Parker approached.

"Yeah, can we just take this down a couple of notches, please?" Parker stepped in between them calmly.

"You say you wanna keep your people alive?" Jake spoke up. "You start by listening to her." He gestured to Grace.

"Those trees were sacred to the Omaticaya in a way you can't imagine."

"You know what?" Parker scoffed in disbelief. "You throw a stick in the air around here, it's gonna land on some sacred fern, for Christ's sake!" He chuckled angrily.

"I'm not talking about some pagan voodoo here! I'm talking about something very real, something measurable in the biology of the forest."

"Which is what, exactly?" Parker scoffed holding his hands on his hips.

"What we think we know is that there is some kind of electrochemical communication between the roots of the trees. Like the synapses between neurons. And each tree has ten to the fourth connections to the trees around it. And there are ten to the twelfth trees on Pandora." Grace explained passionately.

"Which is a lot, I'm guessing." Parker asked condescendingly.

"It's more connections than the human brain." Grace stepped forward, hoping to have made her case. "Get it? It's a network. It's a global network, and the Na'vi can access it. They can upload and download data. Memories. At sites like the one you just destroyed. Yes!" She said feeling like she got threw to him.

"What the hell have you people been smoking out there?" Parker laughed in her face, shocking Grace and disappointing Jake. "They're just goddamn trees!"

"You need to wake up, Parker." Grace warned.

"No, you need to wake up."

"The wealth of this world isn't in the ground. It's all around us. The Na'vi know that, and they are fighting to defend it. If you want to share this world with them, you need to understand them." Grace pleaded for them to listen to her.

"I'd say we understand them just fine, thanks to Jake here." Quaritch piped back up. He clicked a button on the computer playing back one of his video logs, surprising him, and making him worry. "Hey, Doc. Come have a look."

"They're not gonna give up their home. They're not gonna make a deal. F-for what? Lite beer? And blue jeans?" Jake scoffed on the video. "There's nothing that we have that they want. Everything they sent me out here to do is a waste of time. They're never gonna leave Home Tree."

To say Grace was pissed was an understatement. But above all she felt sympathy for Jake. He was only doing what he was bribed to do and she knew it. She saw the loving connection between him and Y/n knowing that he would have never done this if he had known how things would turn out. She placed a hand on his shoulder and gave him a gentle squeeze as his head lowered to look at his lap.

"So, since a deal can't be made, I guess things get real simple. Jake, thanks. I'm getting all emotional. I must just give you a big wet kiss."

"Parker, we need to talk like rational people!" Grace huffed.

"Uh, yeah. I cherish that. But unfortunately you're out of here on the next shuttle tomorrow. All of you." Parker shook his head and pushed past them. He stopped at the entry way to his office and looked at the group. "I'm shutting down the Avatar program. Effective now."

"You can't do that!" Grace exclaimed.

"These gentlemen will escort you all. And I just did."
