Chapter 25: Ba Sing Se
*Asami's P.O.V.*
The train finally arrived and the three of us, four if you count Kai inside of my shirt, and we boarded the train. We walked down the train once we reached our seats and sat down, right next to a cute couple with a very cute baby. My heart immediately gave an extra beat when I saw the cute baby girl. Iroh spotted the baby as well, and his eyes glowed in awe. "What a handsome baby." He said as he as gently stroke her cheek. The mother looked up to him with a big smile. "Thank you." She said before looking back down at her baby.
I stared at the sleeping baby with heart warming eyes as I started imagining myself with my own baby one day. My eyes flickered over to Zuko, and I saw him smiling softly to himself, his mind somewhere else as he stared at the baby. My attention was pulled to the mother when she asked me a question that caught me by surprise. "Do you want to hold her?" I stared at her with wide eyes and wide open mouth. But the mother was just staring at me with kind, friendly, motherly eyes. I soon snapped out of my shock and smiled brightly. "Can I?" I asked with a big bright smile as I opened my arms for the mother to place the baby girl in my arms.
"Of coarse you can." She said as she gently placed her baby into my arms. "You need the practice." She said as she smiled brightly at me. I frowned slightly at her question before ajusting the baby in my arms. Before I could asked, she beat me to it with her own question. "How far along are you?" She asked me with a kind smile as she stared at my stomach, where Kai was laying, still playing as my "pregnant" belly. I soon realized what the women meant with practice and was about to correct her, when Zuko answered for me as he wrapped his arm around me. "She's six months, almost seven." He said with a proud smile.
My eyes widen as I turned my head and looked up to the Banished Prince in disbelief. But he just smiled proudly and jokingly at me, while Iroh was laughing quietly to himself in amusement. "You're lucky." The mom said while she watched me with her baby, smiling kindly. "You get to give birth in the city. I had to give birth outside the walls yesterday." My wide eyes went from Zuko to the woman. "You gave birth yesterday?" I exclaimed in shock, loud enough for them to hear the shock, but quiet enough not to wake the baby. "Yes, yes I did." She answered with a proud smile, as she cuddled into her husband's side when he wrapped his arm around her.
"You gave birth yesterday, and you are walking?" I exclaimed in shock as I stared at the mother in awe. The women shrugged with a smile before her smile brightened when she spotted her baby slowly waking up in my arms. I smiled down at baby girl in my arms as I gently handed her back to her mother. Both mom and dad smiled down at their daughter as her beautiful little eyes opened and looked up to her parents. Her mother smiled down at her and gave her a loving kiss on the forehead. "Hi there my loving, dear Hope." The mom said and placed another kiss on her forehead.

After an hour, we finally arrived inside the walls of Ba Sing Se. Once we got off the train, I went to the restroom and took Kai out of my shirt. When I got out of the restroom, Zuko was waiting for us outside. He took my hand in his and we started walking down the Lower Ring's streets. As we walked, Iroh soon came up to us, holding a large vase in hand with orange flowers, and not just any flowers...
"Tiger lilies! My favourite!" I exclaimed in awe as I took a step closer to the flowers and took a snif. Iroh smiled brightly to me before speaking, "I just want our place to look nice." He said with shrug before looking mischiefly to Zuko. "Especially when someone finally ask's the big question!" Iroh said and nudged Zuko playfully. Zuko looked to his uncle in panic, while I frowned in confusion, and Kai yipped his. "What big question?" I asked as I looked from Iroh to Zuko, waiting for my answer. But Iroh just chuckled while Zuko looked a little paniced. "It's nothing! Uncle is just joking around!" Zuko answered quickly before giving his uncle a pointed glare, but the retired general just giggled.
I continued staring at them with a confused frown, but my frown soon fell when I saw Zuko staring around with a sad frown. "This city is a prison. I don't want to make a life here. This is not the life I want for her, for us." He said to his uncle before looking down at me. I gave him a sympathitic smile and squeezed his hand, which he returned. "Life happens wherever you are, whether you make it or not." Iroh spoke his wise words to Zuko as we continued walking down the street. "Now come on, I found us some new jobs, and we start this afternoon!" He added excitedly, and started walking with a spring in his step, while I stopped in shock
"Did he just say jobs?" I asked the fire ferret on my shoulder, before looking to the firebender who was holding my hand, who was also looking just as surprised.
***
Surprise, surprise, our new jobs was making, serving and pouring, tea.
Our boss, Pao, told us the rules and regulations before giving us our aprons. "Well, you certainly look like official tea servers. How do you feel?" He asked us with a kind smile. Iroh was trying tie his apron's strings behind his back, while Zuko was staring at Pao with a not impresses expression, meanwhile I was petting Kai, who was sitting on my shoulder. "Ridiculous." Zuko said with a deeppan voice. I bit my lip to stop myself from laughing while Iroh finally gave up with his apron. "Uh, does this possibly come in a larger size?" Iroh asked Pao with a defeated look.
"I have extra string in the back. Have some tea while you wait!" Pao said to us as he poured us some tea, he poured for Kai as well, and handed us our cups before going to the back. Iroh took a sip of tea from his cup, before he practically spit the tea out. "Blech!" He exclaimed in disgust as he held the tea away from and glared at the cup of tea in his hand. "This tea is nothing more than hot leaf juice!" He exclaimed as he continued glaring at his tea. I look to Zuko with a frown, while he stared at his uncle in annoyance.
"Uncle, that's what all tea is." Zuko stated with an annoyed expression as he rolled his eyes. Iroh looked up at his nephew in shock before looking to him in disapprovement. "How could a member of my own family say something so horrible?!" He exclaimed in shock with a slight glare before walking over to the tea pot. "I can think of a few other family members who would think and speak the same thing." I whispered to Zuko, getting a slight smirk of amusement from him as we watched Iroh take the tea pot and threw the tea out of the window. "We'll have to make some major changes around here." The retired general stated as a fact before he poured the tea out.
Kai looked to Iroh with curiousity before taking a sip of tea from his cup. When he took his sip, the fire ferret squealed in disgust before knocking the cup over and jumped onto my shoulder. Both Zuko and I looked to Kai in shock, while the fire ferret himself hissed at the knocked over cup. "Couldn't agree more with you my little friend." Iroh said as he walked past, right to the kitchen, like a man on a mission. Before he was to far, Kai jumped over and landed on Iroh's shoulder and went with him to the kitchen. Once they were inside, I picked up my cup of tea and inspected the tea. "Is it really that bad?" I asked as I inspected the tea before looking up to Zuko, who just shrugged followed after his uncle, leaving his tea on the table. I looked at my tea, before placing the cup back onto the table and followed after the banished prince.

"What a day!" I said in tiredness as the four of us enter our apartment. Zuko laid down onto the sleeper couch and pulled me down to lay down next to him, which I didn't complain to. I snuggled right into his chest, while Kai was resting on Iroh's shoulder. "Would you two like a pot of tea?" Iroh asked as he and Kai went to the kitchen. I groaned in irritation at the sound of tea. "We've been working in a tea shop all day!" Zuko complained as he wrapped his arm around and rubbed my shoulder up and down. "I'm sick of tea! We both are!" He added, me slowly nodding in agreement, with my eyes still, close to falling asleep.
"Sick of tea?" Iroh exclaimed in shock, making me giggle in amusement. "That's like being sick of breathing!" He added as I heard him going through the cupboards. "Have you seen the spark rocks to heat up the water? Kai, did you play with them again?" The retired general asked the fire ferret, but Kai just yipped no, making Iroh hum in confusion. "Maybe that is a sign that you shouldn't be making tea." I said as I snuggled deeper into Zuko's chest. "You are funny my dear, almost as funny as my nephew." Iroh said jokingly a I heard him walking out of the kitchen and then opening and closing the door.
"Did he leave?" I asked Zuko, with my eyes still closed as I snuggled on his chest. "Yeah, he did." He answered as he started playing with my hair. I smiled as he played with my hair until I suddenly felt like somebody was staring at me. "Babe, stop staring. It's getting creepy." I said as turned to lay on my stomach on him. "I'm not staring. My eyes closed." Zuko answered me, causing me to frown. "Wait, did you call me babe?" He asked me, but I just ignored him as I opened my eyes and sat up. "If you weren't staring at me, then who was?" I asked as I looked down at him, who raised himself up and rested on his elbows. Zuko frowned at my question and was about to comment when Iroh and Kai came back.
"I borrowed our neighbors'. Such kind people." Iroh said as he used the spark rocks to set a fire and started boiling the kettle. Both Zuko and I looked to the retired general before looking to each other. Zuko shrugged before laying back down with his arms crossed behind his head. I looked down at him before looking to the window. I couldn't help but feel like someone was spying on us. But the more I stared, the more I realized there was nobody there. After a while, I just shrugged and layed back onto Zuko's chest.

After a nice deserving night of sleep, I woke up with a great kiss. "Good morning beautiful." I heard Zuko's voice before he kissed me again. I smiled against his lips before kissing him back. "Morning handsome." I said as I slowly opened my eyes and smiled up to Zuko, who was leaning over me with a smile. "Morning handsome." I said before cupping his cheek and brought his face closer to mine to kiss him again, which he gladly returned. "Good morning ki- Whoops! Sorry!" Iroh said when he entered our room before exiting and shutting the door close. Zuko and I looked to each other before laughing in amusement. "You would think after last time, your uncle would knock before entering." I said as we got out of bed.
"Luckily we were just kissing this time." Zuko said as he walked to his cupboard and got out his clothes for the day. I laughed before frowning when his words repeated in my mind. "Wait a minute... this time?" I questioned but Zuko just smirked at me before walking to the bathroom to get dressed. I stared at the closed door with mixed emotions before getting up myself and went over to my cupboard. I opened the cupboard and was about to take out a plain outfit when I saw a wrapped box with my name on it.
I took the wrapped the box and ripped the paper off before opening the box. Inside the box was a beautiful no sleeve, open back, dark sea green dress with light peach lilies. I took the dress out and held it in front of me as I checked myself out in the mirror. Seeing the beautiful dress in front of me and imagining myself in the dress, I couldn't help but smile. As I imagined myself in the mirror, somebody came behind me and placed a dark green shoulder scarf onto me. I looked up from the dress, and saw Iroh standing behind me, smiling brightly at me like a proud father.
"Why do I get the feeling that you're behind this?" I questioned with a smile. Iroh just smiled even more brightly, making me giggle, before laughing more when kai entered the room with a pair of light peach fingerless gloves. "Are those for me?" I asked the fire ferret, getting a yip for a yes as he dropped the gloves in my hands. "Thank you!" I said and petted him behind the ears. Zuko then came out of the bathroom, fully dressed. He stopped in midstep when he saw the dress in my hand before looking to his uncle with a 'really' look. "Are you ever going to stop buying her outfits?" Zuko asked him, only getting laughter as his answer.

"This is the best tea in the city!" A customer said to Iroh after he refilled the customer's cup with tea, with Kai on his shoulder. I smiled brightly to Iroh as I emptied and cleaned a table. "The secret ingredient is love." Iroh said with a bright smile as he waved his hand through the steam that is coming out of the teapot. Zuko looked to his uncle in disgust, but his expression soon fell and turned into a smirk when I walked over to him and kissed his cheek. "If love is the secret ingredient, then how good will our tea be?" I whispered to him with a joking smile. Zuko smirked before grabbing me around the waist and pulled me to his chest.
"Delicious."
He said before dipping me and kissed me. All the customers in the shop wolf whistled and cheered at us, while Iroh laughed in amusement and Kai groaned in disgust. Zuko pulled me back to up right position and smirked to me. "Don't be cocky." I said to him, blushing as I lightly slapped his chest in embarrassment. Zuko just chuckled before kissing my cheek, making me blush even more, before I pulled away from him and continued emptying and cleaning tables. I was just finishing cleaning the last table, when Jet suddenly slammed the door open and entered with a death glare.
"I'm tired of waiting! These three are firebenders!" Jet exclaimed, sending us a death glare and pointed at us. After he accused us, he took out his hook swords and got in battle stance. The three of us looked to each other nervously before looking back to Jet, unsure on what to do. "I know they're firebenders, I saw the old man heating his tea!" Jet exclaimed as he pointed his hook sword at Iroh, who nervously shuffled slightly on his feet and petted Kai, who slowly started to freak out, but calmed down when he got petted on the head. Meanwhile Zuko and I glare at him. Jet's words repeated in my head, which caused me to scoff. I was about to voice his ridiculous accusation when a customer did.
"He works in a tea shop." The customer said plainly, staring blankly at Jet, along with the other customers. I smirk slightly at the customers words before I continued glaring.
"He's a firebender! I'm telling you! And so is she!" Jet exclaimed and pointed his hook sword at me. Zuko growled at stepped in front of me protectively. "She has Fire Nation tattoos on her back!" He knows... I thought to myself, while hiding my shocked and worried expression. "And I bet on her arms as well! That's why she's wearing long sleeve gloves!" Jet exclaimed, making Zuko growl in anger as both mine and his glare deepened at the Freedom Fighter. "You don't know what you are talking about!" Zuko exclaimed while Iroh stepped closer to me and wrapped his arm around me like a protective father.
"Oh yeah? Then why not take off the gloves and scarf to proof me wrong then?" Jet asked with a cocky smirk and took a slight step forward. "Emiko is not going to show everybody her scars just because of you!" Zuko exclaimed as he tried block me from Jet's view by using his body. "Scars?" Another customer asked as he looked to me in surprise. "Yeah, Fire Nation attacked us, burning my face, and Emiko's back and arms. I'm not able to hide my scar, but she is! And she's not going to show them if she doesn't want to!" Zuko answered as he continued glaring at Jet. I looked to Zuko, surprised at his lie he's telling, but I quickly changed my expression before anyone could see it.
"He's lying! She has a Fire Nation symbol on her back! I saw it myself! All three of them are Fire Nation!" Jet exclaimed in rage took another step closer and poited his hook swords at us. The customers looked to us before looking to each other and nodded. "Drop your swords, boy. Nice and easy." The customer said as he and his friend stook up and their hands slowly moved to their weapons. But just ignored them as he continued glaring at us. "You'll have to defend yourself. Then everyone will know. Go ahead, show them what you can do." Jet threatened as he got in battle stance. The customer that stood up was about to take out his broad swords, when Zuko took them out first. "You want a show? I'll give you a show!" He exclaimed as he split the broad swords and got in battle stance.
Zuko used his foot to pull a table in front of him and then kicked it at Jet. Jet sliced the table in half with his swords before jumping over it. Once he landed on his feet, he swiped both his swords at Zuko, but the banished prince blocked the attack with his own swords before jumping up and landing on the table behind him. But the second Zuko's feet were on the table, Jet used one of his swords and sliced the table in half. While Zuko was balancing on one foot on one half table, I stepped closer to stop the fight, but Iroh grapped my arm and shook his head at me, while Kai was sitting on the retired general's shoulder, having his eyes covered with his front paws.
Once Jet noticed that Zuko was balancing on the now half piece table, he used his hook swords to cut the tables legs off. Zuko quickly jumped up into the air before landing with his broad swords in front of him, aiming at Jet's legs and feet. But the Freedom Fighter somersaulted backwards, landing in a crouch before standing up again and charged. Both the Freedom Fighter and the Scarred Prince raised up their swords before their weapons clashed together. Jet was about to raise his leg up and kick Zuko, but I shook Iroh's hand off my arm and charged at Jet.
Just as he was about to kick, I kicked my war vans out of my boots, and used the one to block his leg. Jet looked to me in surprise before yelping in surprise when I raised his leg up and then pushed him to the ground. "Emiko!" Iroh exclaimed at me, but I just ignored him while glaring down at the Freedom Fighter, who was glaring up at me with gritted teeth. "That's enough!" I snapped at him, with my war vans opened in my hands, preparing myself for a surprise attack from him. "Not until you show your true colours!" He shouted before swinging his leg at me, to trip me. I quickly jumped up and back flipped away. Zuko went to charge at him, but Jet kicked him in the chest, causing Zuko to stumple out of the tea shop, into the streets.
The second Zuko stood still, Jet charged again and striked his hook swords at him. Zuko quickly raised his broad swords up and blocked the attack, locking his and Jet's swords. "You must be getting tired of using those swords. Why don't you go ahead and firebend at me?" Jet said with a sinister smile, almost smiling like a crazy person. "He's not a firebender!" I exclaimed as I charge and pushed Jet away from my boyfriend. Jet snarled at me and striked his hook sword at me, but I ducked down before kicking him in the chest.
"Please, son, you're confused! You don't know what you're doing!" Iroh exclaimed to Jet from the tea shop's door, but the Freedom Fighter just ignored the Retired General as he continued swinging and striking his hook swords at both Zuko and I. Jet then hooked the one sword onto the other's hook then started swinging the now longer sword at us. "Bet you wish he'd help you two out with a little fire blast right now." He said as he swung his swords at us, while he ducked and dodged. Just as Jet was about to swing the swords again, Zuko used one of the broad swords and pinned the hook sword to the ground by its hilt.
Jet looked up with a surprised glare while Zuko glared at the Freedom Fighter. "You're the one who needs help." The Banished Prince exclaimed before I somersaulted over to them and then kicked Jet in the chest, pushing him away from us and one of his swords. Zuko left the sword he used to pin Jet's sword behind, and use the one sword to strike at Jet. The Freedom Fighter ducked from the sword before he himself striked at me. I quickly ducked with a split before Zuko swung his sword at the Freedom Fighter. Jet bend backwards to avoid the attack, but him bending backwards caused Zuko to cut the grass straw in Jet's mouth to be cut in half.
The Freedom Fighter stood up straight and looked down at his now cut grass straw in surprise before glaring at Zuko and I. Seeing his expression, I couldn't help but smirk in amusement. "Whoops, seems like we sliced your straw!" Some people laughed at my comment, while Jet's glare deepened at me. He gritted his teetth and went to strike at me, but I blocked his attack with my war vans before punching him in the face before kicking him away from me in the chest. Jet rubbed his chest before looking up to Zuko and I with a death glare. "You see that?!" He exclaimed to the people while pointing at us. "The Fire Nation is trying to silence me. It'll never happen." He said before charging at us again.
Both Zuko and I blocked and dodged his attacks before striking back at him with our weapons in hand. The three of us were soon then back to back, striking and blocking each others attack until the Dai Li arrived. The second I saw the Earthbenders, I stopped fighting and somersaulted back to Iroh. "Drop your weapons!" The Dai Li officer ordered as he and his fellow Dai Li members walked to us. Zuko and Jet broke away from each others back before standing away in a short distance. Zuko lowered his sword slightly, keeping it ready for a surprise attack, while Jet kept it pointed at Zuko.
"Arrest them! They're firebenders!" Jet exclaimed to the Dai Li while he continued glaring at Zuko in his battle stance. "This poor boy is confused. We're just simple refugees." Iroh said to the Dai Li as he wrapped his arm around me in a fatherly way, while I took Kai from his shoulder and started petting the fire ferret to calm him down. "This young man wrecked my tea shop, and assaulted my employees!" Pao, our boss, exclaimed to the Dai Li as he pointed to Jet with a disapproving glare. "He even accused poor Emiko! He wanted to strip her from her clothes to show tattoos that she doesn't even have!" Well...
"It's true, sir. We saw the whole thing. This crazy kid attacked the finest tea maker in the city." The customer who stood up in the shop said to the Dai Li, while complimenting Iroh at the same time. "Oh, ho, ho. That's very sweet." Iroh said as he blushed with a pleased smile, making a giggle softly in amusement. But the customer was not wrong. Iroh is most definetly the world's best tea maker. Kai yipped his agreement before snuggling into my chest as we watched the Dai Li and waited for there response.
"Come with us, son." One of the Dai Li said and walked closer to Jet. The Freedom Fighter glared at the earthbender before raising his hook sword up and went to strike at the earthbender. Before he hit the earthbender, the earthbender used his stone gloves to grap the sword. The Dai Li disarmed Jet and then used their rock gloves to earthbend around Jet's wrists, binding them together behind his back, like cuffs. The Dai Li then started dragging him to the prison transport wagon. "You don't understand! They're Fire Nation! You have to believe me!" Jet exclaimed as he got dragged off.
As Jet was getting dragged of, Zuko returned the broad swords to the customer before walking over to me. He wrapped his arm around me and gently squeezed my shoulder in reasurance as we all watched Jet get transported away. As I watch the wagon move further and further away from us, I couldn't help but feel guilty. They are sending a man to prison for saying the truth. Zuko and Iroh are firebenders, and I do have a Fire Nation symbol tattoo on my back and arm. But the way Jet handled the situation... His anger and want for revenge against the Fire Nation was his reason for going to prison.
