Chapter 2: The Avatar and Protector Returns

Not long after the flare went off, Sokka marched right up to me with a glare. "I knew it! You're working for the Fire Nation!" He exclaimed in anger as he pointed me. "You stayed here to distract us while your brother went off and signal them! You're sending them right to us!" He continued as kept stepping forward, still pointing at me.

I looked at him surprised, shocked of what he was thinking of Aang and I. But I soon started glaring at him annoyed. "How about you get your facts straight before you start blaming people!" I snapped as I slapped his hand away from me. "How about that flare!" Sokka exclaimed as he pointed up, to the flare. "That's enough proof for me!" He added, giving me a death glare, which I returned.

I open my mouth, about to scream at him, but was interrupted when Kai chirped in excitement. Not a moment later, the children of the village started cheering in excitement, say that Aang was back while they run out of the village and towards him and Katara, that was walking back to the village. I gave Sokka one last death glare, and run over to my brother.

Seeing me, Aang slowly started laughing and smiling nervously, but I just gave him the sister-disappointed glare, which he knew all to well. He always got that glare when he's curiosity got the best of him, or when he did something that he knew would get him into trouble. Aang tried to do his innocent sparkle eyes, but after years of practice, I wasn't affected by it. So I just deepen my glare, which made him flinch.

"I'm in trouble, aren't I?" Aang asked nervously as he scratched behind his neck. "You tell me." I simple said as I crossed my arms at him. But before Aang could say anything, Sokka came over with his own death glare. Only his glare was targeted at Aang and I, not Katara. Now that an argument was about to start, and not wanting Kai in the middle of it, I send him of to Appa and told him to wait there.

"I knew it! You signaled the Fire Navy with that flare!" Sokka exclaimed as he pointed at Aang and I. "You're leading them straight to us aren't you?" I mentally rolled my eyes that the boys paranoia, but before Aang or I could say something to defend ourselves, Katara spoke up.

"Aang didn't do anything! It was an accident!" She exclaimed, glaring at her brother. "Yeah! Katara and I were on the ship and there was this booby-trap, and well," Aang started, but he slowly got nervous as he realized how stupid they were. "We boobied right into it." He finished as he scratched behind his neck nervously.

"Aang what were you thinking?" I asked with a disappointed glare. Aang looked down, ashamed that he got into trouble. "Katara! You shouldn't have gone on that ship!" Gran Gran said to her, shaking her head in disappointment with a glare. "Now we all could be in danger!" She added, raising her voice in anger.

"Don't blame Katara!" Aang quickly said, not wanting his friend to be in trouble. "I brought her there!" He continued, putting both hands on his chest, before pulling them back down and looking down in shame. "It's my fault." I disappointedly shook my head at my brother. Not only did he go and get himself in trouble, he got Katara in it as well. Along with putting the village in danger.

"Ah ha! The traitor confesses!" Sokka exclaimed, pointing at Aang in anger, making Katara and I glare at him in annoyance. "Warriors, away from the enemies! The foreigners are banished from the village!" Aang looked down in sadness as the kids walked away. I stood expressionless, because I had mixed feelings at the moment. A part of me understood why Sokka is doing this, another part of me says he's overreacting, another part is furious at him for banishing us, and another part is sad for knowing that we had to leave.

"Sokka, you are making a mistake!" Katara said to her brother, glaring at him, but he didn't care. "No! I'm keeping my promise to dad! I'm protecting you from threats like him!" Sokka exclaimed, pointing at my brother. "Aang and Asami are not our enemies!" Katara argued, pointing at us as she tried to defend us. "Don't you see? They brought us something what we haven't had for a long time, Fun."

"Fun!?!" Sokka exclaimed in annoyance at his sister. "We can't fight firebenders with fun!" I rolled my eyes as I crossed my arms, glaring at Sokka. "You should try it sometime!" I said to him with a sarcastically smile. Aang laughed softly at comment, but my response and Aang's laugh only made Sokka more angry.

"Get out of our village! Now!"

"Grandmother please! Don't let Sokka do this!" Katara begged to her, but Gran Gran just looked disappointedly at her granddaughter. "Katara, you knew going on that ship was forbidden." She said pointedly. "Sokka is right. I think it is best that the airbenders leaves." I sighed sadly, knowing that she only wants what is best for her people, but it still hurt none the less.

"Fine! Then I'm banished too!" Katara exclaimed in anger, turning around and marching away. "Come on Aang!" She said as she grabbed my brother by the arm and started pulling him with her to Appa. Both caught by surprise, Aang walked along as he looked at her shocked while I froze and watched them walk.

"Where do you think you're going?" Sokka asked his sister, raising his voice in frustration at Katara's behavior. "To find a waterbender!" Katara exclaimed as she continued marching. "Aang is taking me to the North Pole!" She added as she looked over her shoulder. North Pole? Oh, monkey feathers! What did Aang promise her now?

"I am?" Aang asked to himself, confused, before smiling brightly. "Great!" I mentally facepalmed at my brother's behavior, before looking at the village. I sighed sadly as I saw the broken faces, knowing that Katara choosing us over them hurt them more than anything. Gran Gran looked at me pleadingly, quietly asking me to talk some sense into her. I nodded to her softly, and quickly walked over to them.

"Katara!" Sokka called out to her while I walked over to them. Luckily, they stopped to listen, which gave me enough time to get to them. "Are you really going to choose him over your tribe? Your own family?" Sokka asked, expressing his hurt feelings on his face. Katara looked down sadly, while Aang looked at the village and Katara with a sad frown.

Aang looked at me for advice, but I just nodded my head to the village, silently telling that he needed to do the right thing. He nodded softly at me and walked over to Katara. "Katara, I don't want to come between you and your family. Neither does Asami." Aang said to her, sad, before walking over to Appa. I patted Katara softly on the back, giving her a small smile, before going over to Appa as well.

"So, you're leaving the South Pole? This is goodbye?" Katara asked, sadness clear in her voice. "Thanks for Penguin Sledding with me." Aang said as he smiled at her, showing he was grateful, and trying to cheer her up. "Where will you go?" She asked softly. Aang looked sadly at me before answering her with a fake smile.

"We would've gone to Whale Tail Island, but now I guess we'll go back home and look for the airbenders." I looked down in sadness, remembering that my wedding wasn't going to happen. "Wow... I haven't clean my room for a 100 years!" He soon added in realization. "Not looking forward for that!" He joked, making me smile slightly at him, knowing that he's saying it to cheer both Katara and I up.

Aang and I airbended ourselves up, and landed on Appa. Aang on his head, taking the reins, and me on the saddle, sitting cross leg and picking Kai up, hugging him before placing him on my lap. "It was nice meeting everyone!" Aang called out while I waved at them with a thankful smile.

"Let's see your bison fly now, Air-Boy!" Sokka said in sarcasm as he crossed his arms. I glared at Sokka for his rudeness while Aang frowned. Aang quickly snapped out of it, and looked down at Appa with a confident smile. "Come on Appa! You can do!" He said in full confidence before whipping the reins. "Yip yip!" But Appa just groaned and slowly stood up.

"Yeah, I thought so!" I'm gonna kill that boy for his stupid remarks! I send Sokka a death glare, but soon frown when a little girl started crying and running toward us. "Aang, Asami, don't go! I'll miss you!" She said to us as the tears started forming in her. "I'll miss you too." Aang said to her sadly, before looking pointedly at Katara.

Sighing in sadness, Aang whipped Appa's reins, ordering him to move. "Come on boy." Appa groaned softly and started walking, away from the village, away from the people of the Southern Water Tribe, away from our friends. I send one last look at the village before crawling over to Aang, after I put Kai on my shoulder. "We'll need to stay close." I said to him in seriousness. "If a Fire Navy ship did see that flare, the tribe is going to be in danger."

Aang looked at me, worried, but I put my hand on his shoulder, squeezing it reassuringly. "Don't worry! We'll be able to protect them!" I said, giving him a reassuring smile. "And that's only if the Fire Navy come!" I added, giving one last smile, before turning serious again. "If they do come, we need to be prepared." Aang nodded slowly as I continued talking. "We can't let them find out who you are. So leave the fighting to me. I'll hold them off while you lead the tribe somewhere safe."

"But what about you?" Aang asked, worriedly. "I've been trained and taught every fighting technic there is sense I was 6 years old. Trust me, I can handle myself. You just worry but the villagers when it comes to it." Aang opens his mouth to argue, but when I gave him a pointed look, he closed his mouth and nodded slowly.

***

We distanced ourselves from the village as far but close, as possible. We found some glaciers with perfect circles in them, and decided to camp here until we wait. One of the glacier's had a circle big enough for Appa to lay in and had two circles above that was perfect for Aang and I. Instead of laying in his own circle, Kai came to mine and laid next to me.

Appa groaned sadly after a while, in a way, telling us he missed the village. "Yeah, I liked her too." Aang said sadly to Appa, laying in the circle with his staff. He sighed sadly as he looked down, but he turned his head when he heard something. Aang turned and soon gasped in fear when he saw the ship, heading straight towards the village.

"The village!" He exclaimed, jumping out of the circle, sliding down the glacier on both feet before landing in front of Appa. "Appa wait here!" He said to the bison, turning around and was about to run, but stopped when I called out to him. "Aang! Remember the plan!" I exclaimed as I climbed out of the ice circle. I jumped out, landing in front of Appa, who was sleeping. I put Kai next to him, before ordering him as well to stay here.

I turned to face Aang, but I saw that he already has left! I growled in annoyance at my brother, and stumped my foot. Why can't he for once in his life listen to me? He's going to get himself killed! I took a deep breath, knowing that I had to get to the village before Aang does something stupid. I twirled my staff in my hand before opening the glider, and started flying towards the village.

***

Flying as fast as I can, I finally got to the village, and luckily on time. The Fire Navy just arrived, and what it looked like Sokka was fighting with one of them, well, trying to. I flew closer, and gasped as I watched the soldier beat Sokka up without even trying. But my worried expression soon turned into laughter when Sokka's boomerang hit the soldier on the head.

The soldier got his balance back, and he wasn't happy. He formed fire daggers in his hands, and was about to strike, but before he could, a boy on a penguin otter sled by, right under his feet. The soldier flew up in the air, crying in surprise, with his helmet flying right off his head. He soon fell back down, face first to the ground. And the cherry on top, was actually his helmet landing on his butt that was facing up!

The children cheered when they saw Aang, stopping for a second when they got covered in snow, before started cheering again. Aang stopped in front of Katara and Sokka, smiling brightly, but cried in surprise when the penguin threw him off. He smiled at the penguin when it stood up and walked away. Aang then turned to Sokka and Katara, smiling bigger.

"Hey Katara! Hey Sokka!"

"Hi Aang. Thanks for comin'." Sokka muttered, slightly annoyed, but accepting the help. Aang stood when he heard the soldier stand up, holding his staff in a defensive stance, not wanting to hurt anyone, but ready to defend himself. The soldier stood in battle stance, his helmet off, while the other soldiers with spears, surrounded Aang, blocking him from escaping.

The soldier was a teenage boy. All of his hair was shaved of, except for his ponytail. Ponytails wasn't an unnatural look for Fire Nation. But having the rest of your head shaved and only having a ponytail, was unnatural. But what really got my attention, was his scar. On left side of his face was a burned scar. It covered his whole left eye and his ear. He must have been in a training accident.

Aang shot air at both sides, blasting snow at the soldiers. He stepped forward, shooting air in front of him and blasting the teenage soldier with snow. The soldier looked up with a glare, heating his body up to melt the snow. "Looking for me?" Aang asked with an expressionless face. "You're the airbender? You're the Avatar?" The soldier asked in shock and disbelief.

"Aang?" Katara asked, confused, while Sokka looked at Aang with wide eyes. "No way!" He said in surprise. Aang and the soldier started circling each other, preparing themselves for anything. "I spend years preparing for this encounter." The soldier started as they circled each other. "Training. Meditating." He continued, getting more frustrated as he looked at Aang.

"You're just a child!"

Aang stopped walking as he frowned at the soldier in confusion. "Well, you're just a teenager." He simply said, not understanding the soldier's point. The teenage soldier glared in anger at my brother and shot a blast of fire at him. Aang cried in surprise and quickly blocked it with his staff. The firebender shot more fire blasts at him, but Aang continued blocking them.

Getting frustrated, the soldier made a big fireball, knowing that Aang won't be able to blocked it. He shot it at Aang, and before it could hit him, I jumped in front of Aang, sending a strong blast of air at the fireball and the soldier, destroying the fireball and making the soldier fall on his back. The other gasped in shock when they saw me, but I glared at the soldier in front of me.

I twirled my staff around me and got in battle stance. The soldier looked up at me in shock, but I just continued glaring. He soon growled in anger and jumped back up on his feet, getting in battle stance. He stood still, studying me, waiting for my move, but I knew what he was planning before he even thought it. So I stood my ground, holding my staff up, being ready.

The soldier soon got impatient and started shooting fire blasts at me. I blocked and reflected them, before shooting my own blast of air at him. The soldier growled more in anger, wanting to catch me by surprise, he send a fire blast at me before shooting at Aang. Seeing his plan, I reflected the fire away, jumping in front of Aang and twirled my staff, fast, sending the fire back to the soldier.

The soldier quickly dodged the fire and send me a death glare. "You're going to have to do more than that to get the Avatar!" I said to the soldier, getting back in a battle stance. "The Avatar's Protector." The soldier growled as he stared at me. I was surprised that he knew who I was, but I refused to show my expression, and continued glaring at him.

"I've heard rumors of you. Never thought that they were true, until now." He continued, as we started circling. Knowing that he's after Aang, I used my staff to push Aang behind, silently telling him to stay behind me. We continued circling each other, with Aang behind me, waiting for either of us to make the next move. Getting impatient again, he started shooting at us again.

I reflected and blocked them again, but he was sending more and more, and bigger and bigger. He shot a big fireball at me, and I was luckily able to block it in time. Unfortunately, some of the fire went over my head, and almost burned the villagers. They cried in fear, moving back as far as they could, but there was a wall of behind them. Hearing their cries, Aang looked at them worried, before making a decision.

Aang stepped in front of me, after reflecting the fire away. "If I go with you, will you promise to leave everyone alone?" Aang asked after reflecting the fire, pointing his staff at the soldier. The soldier stood for a moment in thought, before standing up straight and nodding to Aang. He looked at me for a second, before looking at Aang. "You're Protector comes too."

I huffed in annoyance, sending him a death glare, before raising my hands up in surrender. "Don't worry. I was going to give myself up anyway." I said to him, while the other soldiers grabbed us and took our staff's. "There's no I'm letting my brother go alone with you." I added as the soldiers started pushing us towards the ship.

"No Aang, Asami! Don't do this!" Katara begged, running halfway after us, trying to hold back her tears from crying. "Don't worry Katara! It will be okay!" Aang said over his shoulder, smiling, but I knew he was lying to stop her from worrying, and to himself. "Take after Appa and Kai for us until we make it back!" Aang asked quickly while we started walking up, into the ship.

"Head to a course to the Fire Nation!" The soldier ordered as he walked up first into the ship. "I'm going home!" We stopped at the entrance, looking at the village, sending them a sad smile, knowing that this will be the last time we ever see them. As the ship slowly closed, Aang and I looked down in sadness when we no longer saw the village.

After the doors where closed shut, the soldiers handcuffed our hands behind our back, and lead us up deck, where the teenage soldier stood, with an older mad standing next to him. The man gasped in surprised saw Aang, and gasped in even more surprise when he saw me. "Two airbenders!" He whispered to himself, surprised.

"Uncle, I found the Avatar, and his Protector." The teenage soldier said to the old man, not taking his eyes off of Aang and I. So the man is his uncle, interesting. "The Avatar's Protector." The man started talking, playing with his grey chin beard, with a knowledge look. "If the rumors are true, it means dire consequences if any harm comes to the Avatar." I smirked at the man's response, knowing that he was telling the truth, and proud of it.

"She doesn't scare me." The soldier said, with a glare that seemed to me stuck on his face. He's probable never happy. "You should be." I said to him with a smirk and a glare. He just growled at me, before taking my staff and Aang's staff from another soldier. He inspected them before talking to Aang. "These staffs will make excellent gifts to my father."

"I suppose you wouldn't know of fathers, being raised by monks." He added, looking at us with his frozen glare. Both Aang and I glared him annoyed. We may not have a father, but Monk Gyatso was close to a father than any other. "You know nothing. Our guardian monk was more a father than ever." I said to the teenager, glaring at him for the disrespect.

He just ignored me as he looked at the soldiers that held us. "Take the Avatar and his Protector to the prison hold! Keep them separated!" The soldiers nodded and started pushing us to the stairs. "And take these to my quarters!" He ordered, shoving our staffs to his uncle. His uncle looked at him for his tone, taking them. The teenager walked away, and before he noticed, his uncle handed the staffs to another soldier. "Hey! Mind taking these to his quarters?"

The soldier nodded in respect before they walked away, into the ship. The soldiers that held Aang and I continued pushing us towards the stairs below deck. We grunted in discomfort, but they just ignored us and continued pushing. Before we got below deck, Aang and I looked at the direction where the soldier with our staffs went, before looking down and walked.

As soon as we got below deck, the soldiers holding me went in a different direction, taking me away from Aang. We looked at each other as we walked away, sending each other secret message, before getting separated. The soldiers and I walked for while, down the hall, towards a prison cell, before I started talking to them.

"You know, being the Protector and all, I was taught to fight with my hands behind my back. Plus, being an airbender, I don't need hands to take you both down." I said with a smirk, but the soldier behind me just pushed me forward and told me to be silent. I just continued smirking and waited for the right moment. "Don't say I didn't warn you." I said with a knowing smirk.

We stopped at a door, and the soldier in front of took out a key in his pocket, and went to unlock the door. This is my chance! Not a moment to lose, I blew hard out of my mouth, sending the soldier in front, into the door, knocking him out. As I blew, I lifted my feet, making me fly backwards, and taking the soldier behind me as well. I continued blowing, until we hit a wall, the soldier behind me breaking my hit and getting knocked out.

I jumped up, back on my feet and smirked down at the knocked out soldier. "I warned you!" But my smirk soon disappeared when I heard the soldiers calling out that the Avatar has escaped. Knowing I had to be quick, I run to the stairs and jumped up, landing on the top deck. But when I landed, there was a soldier who saw me. He went to firebend at me, but I kicked a blast of air at him before he could.

The air send him into the walk and knocked him out. Knowing more soldiers will be coming, I run through the open door, that was blasted open by air by Aang. I knew Aang went this way, and worried for his safety, I run as fast I could after him. I turned to a hall and saw three soldiers holding swords, looking over their shoulders in shock.

"I'm guessing my brother went this way?" I asked them, catching their attention. They glared at me as they took as step forward, raising their swords. I smirked at them, with my hands still tied behind my back, and stood in a battle stance. "Don't worry! Unlike my brother, I like to fight!" The soldiers cried out their the battle cries and charged at me.

I jumped with a spinning kick, hitting the first guy on the head, into the wall next to him. I landed and kicked the next soldier's sword out of his hand, before kicking him on the chest, sending him to fall on his back. He went to get back up, but I quickly kicked him on the head to knock him out. The last soldier run straight at me, moving his sword side to side. I ducked every swing he made, before getting down, tripping him, sending him face first into the wall.

All of them knocked out, I smirked at my victory, taking one of their swords and cut me lose. "I took you three down with my hands tied behind my back. And you guys even had swords!" I said proudly, looking down at them before shaking my head with a bright smile. "And I didn't even use my bending!" I added laughing before I started running down the hall again, looking for Aang.

Seeing the ladder and the open hatch above if, I knew Aang went up there, and jumped up. But when I landed, I saw a soldier laying there, confused. He noticed me soon, and jumped back on his feet, standing in a firebending stance. I groaned in frustration, looking at the firebender with impatience. "Look buddy! As much as I enjoy fighting, I really need to find my brother right now!"

The soldier just ignored me and shot fire at me. I rolled my eyes in annoyances, before airbending the air away from the fire, killing it. When becoming an Airbending Master, you need to fully master all 36 tiers of airbending and create a new airbending technique. Aang's was the air-scooter, mine was taking away the air in objects. I came up with the idea when I spared with Zian once. Fire needs air to burn, take away the air, and it perish.

The soldier looked shocked at me when he saw his fire disappear. Before he could do anything else, I shot air at him, knocking him down on his back. I quickly run, jumping over the soldier with a front flip, and continued running down the hall, in search of Aang. Not long, I finally found Aang, standing at an open door, closing it very slowly.

"Aang!" I called out as I run towards him. He jumped slightly in surprise, but he shushed at me when I stopped in front of him. Caught by surprise for his shushing, and was about to question him, but he pointed at the door he just closed. "The uncle is sleeping." He whispered while pointing at the door with his finger. My eyes widen as I silently 'oh' with my mouth, making him nod at me.

I smiled down at my brother and brought him into a strong hug, which he returned. I pulled away and looked at him with a smirk. "Let's get off this ship!" I said, but not loud enough to wake up the sleeping uncle. Aang nodded and started running down the hall with me following behind. "First we need our staffs!" Aang said as he run down, looking through room to room, searching for our staffs.

We run past one room, but Aang quickly stopped himself and run back. He looked in the room and smiled brightly. "My staff!" He called out as he run into the room. My eyes widen when I saw the open door, and immediately knew it was a trap. I run towards Aang to stop while calling out to him. "Wait, Aang! It's a trap!" But before I could stop him in time, the door closed and locked the second he got into the room.

"Look's like I underestimate you." I heard the teenage soldier said though the door. My eyes widen in fear for my brother and tried to open the door, but it was locked. "Let's see how you can handle yourself without your Protector along!" He said again, and that's when I heard what sounded like fire blasts. My feared got stronger when I realized he was firebending at my brother, and tried even harder to open the door.

I heard Aang cry out in fear, making me more frustrated at the door. Luckily, it sounded like he dodged it in time, because I heard multiple fire blasts, and now and then Aang crying out as he dodged the fire. But I was starting to feel the heat through the door and knew I needed to get in there fast. Getting desperate to get in, I started air blasting at the door. It didn't open, but it did start to budge a bit.

I repeatedly started blasting air at the door, until it finally opened. When I got in, I saw Aang riding on his air-scooter around the room. The soldier was shooting everywhere Aang goes, so he didn't hear or see me come in. While he was distracted, I grabbed one of the fire nation banners from the wall and wrapped it around the soldier. He was caught by surprise when he saw me, but when he went to hit me, he was already wrapped tight in the banner.

I smirked as I watched the soldier growl and tried to get free. Aang quickly run over to our staffs, grabbing my staff and throwing it over to me before grabbing his. I caught my staff and stood in battle stance while pointing my staff at the soldier. He roared in anger, using firebending to rip the banner apart. The soldier glared at me and stood in his battle stance.

Aang made a worried sound behind me, but I just glared at the soldier before I started smirking. The soldier was standing next to his bed. He went to take a step forward, but before he could, I airbended the mattress up and threw it against the wall, taking the soldier with it. The mattress fell down flat, with the soldier laying on it with a groan. He went to stand up, but I airbended under the mattress, sending it straight to the sealing, with the soldier still on it.

Before it fell back down, I grabbed Aang by the arm and run out of the room. We continued running until we came to we came into the control room. Noticing that the door was open, Aang and I run towards it with bright smiles. Aang threw his staff up and jumped up, grabbing onto his glider that opened through midflight. I opened my glider before I jumped off the ship's balcony, and flew after Aang with a bright smile.

We were home free! But that only lasted until the teenage soldier came out of nowhere and grabbed Aang's foot. Aang was caught by surprise and lost his balance over the glider. Not only did he lost his balance, with the sudden weight, it wasn't long till Aang crashed onto the ship's deck. "Aang!" I called out in worry, flying straight to my brother before landing next to him. I checked if he was okay and helped him up.

I pushed Aang behind me and got in battle stance when the soldier stood up. We glared at each other in hatred, but we all frowned when we heard a familiar groan. "What is that?" The soldier asked as he looked up in confusion. Aang and I turned slightly and looked over our shoulders, smiling brightly when we saw our fluffy friend. "Appa!" We called out excitedly.

But then soldiers came on deck and started fighting and firebending at me. I fought back, while redirecting and blocking the fire, but I was to busy to realize that Aang was fighting the teenage soldier until it was too late. I was surrounded, and I couldn't airbend my way out without sending Aang off the ship as well. I continued fight, trying to get to Aang to help him, but the soldiers kept on coming.

I knocked out a few soldiers and looked to see if Aang was okay, but that was when my worst fear came true. Aang's staff was knocked out of his hand, leaving him defenseless. And to make matters worst, the soldier was sending Aang closer, and closer to the edge. Giving his final battle cry, the soldier kicked a strong blast of fire at Aang, and sending Aang overboard.

I heard Katara cried out to him while I froze in shock. I watched my brother fall towards the ocean before I started screaming in rage. "No!" I screamed, shooting air around me, sending the soldiers away from me and run towards where Aang fell. But before I could reach the edge, I was grabbed by the arm and pulled back. "No! Let go of me!" I exclaimed as the teenage soldier pulled me back.

He held my hands behind my back with a tight grip, and kept pulling me back as I tried to escape from him. I struggled to escaped his grip, but I was able to release one hand and tried to pull out the other as I run. But the soldier was strong and pulled me back before I could jump after Aang. I cried in desperation and fear for my brother, but the soldier pulled me back.

Knowing that I wanted to go after Aang, the soldier held my wrist with a tight grip and wrapped his arm around my waist, holding me tight. I kept on trying to get away, but when my brother hit the water, I started crying, repeatedly calling his name over and over. I was trained how to escape from positions like this, but my emotions made my mind bleary and I couldn't think clear.

I continued trying to escape, but as more tears fell, my struggles went weaker and weaker. But I soon stopped when I suddenly felt a burst of strength. I looked up and gasped when I saw Aang burst out of the water, bending the water. His eyes and tattoos where glowing, so I knew we was in the Avatar State. I smiled in relief when I saw my brother alive, and calmed down.

Feeling the strength and knowing that Aang was okay, I pushed my head back, hitting the soldier on the nose. He cried out in pain, releasing his tight grip, making it possible for me to escape. I pulled away from him, spinning around fast and kicked him before he could grab me again. The soldier fell on his back with a groan, giving me the advantage to get away.

The soldier jumped back on his feet, ready to shoot fire at me, but before he could, Aang landed on the ship, still in his Avatar State. Aang span the water around him and shot it at all soldiers, blasting them all of the ship. I cheered for Aang's victory, but I soon stopped when he stopped glowing and fainted. I quickly run over and caught him before he hit the ground.

I got down to my knees, laying his head on my lap. While I checked to see if he was okay, Appa landed on the ship and that was when I saw the two teenagers of the Southern Water Tribe. "Aang! Asami! Are you guys okay?" Katara called out as she and her brother run over to us. I frowned slightly in confusion at the siblings, but I soon looked at them in relief, knowing that they came to help.

"We're okay." I answered while Aang slowly got conscious again. I slowly helped him sit as he tiredly looked at Sokka and Katara. "Hey Katara, Hey Sokka. Thanks for coming." Aang said, with a tired and dried throat. Sokka smirked down at Aang as he helped me with Aang, sitting him up. "Well, I couldn't let you have all the glory!" Sokka joked as he looked down at Aang.

"I dropped my staff." Aang said as he looked at where his staff laid. "Got it!" Sokka exclaimed as he run over to the staff and picked it up. But before he could head back to us, a hand suddenly grabbed the staff. Sokka cried out in surprise and started trying to pull the staff away from the teenage soldier, but the soldier held on tight.

Getting an idea, Sokka hit the staff 3 times on the soldier's head, doing exactly what the soldier did to him. The soldier groaned on every hit, before letting go and falling down. He grabbed on the anchor's chain before he could hit the water, and send Sokka a death glare. "Ha! That's from the Water Tribe!" Sokka cheered in victory.

Katara and I lead Aang back over to Appa and helped him get up, onto Appa's head. But when Aang got on Appa, the soldiers started standing up again, raising their weapons at us. Katara lifted her arms and started waterbending the water. She threw her hands forward, aiming to at them, but she accidently shot the water behind her, and froze her brother's feet to the ship. "Katara!" Sokka exclaimed annoyed and started hitting the ice with his boomerang.

But that's when the soldiers behind Sokka started standing him. Knowing that he needed help, I run towards him with my staff. "I'll help Sokka! You just waterbend like that again, but in the opposite direction!" I told Katara as I run over to her brother. The soldiers was about to strike at Sokka, but I air blasted at them before they could. "Thanks!" Sokka said as he continued hitting the ice that froze his feet.

"Hurry up guys!" Katara called out as she climbed up Appa. "I'm just a guy with a boomerang!" Sokka exclaimed as he talked to himself, while he hit the ice with his boomerang. "I didn't ask for all this flying and magic!" I went to help him get free, but that was when I noticed all the soldiers coming closer and surrounding us. I knew that the moment we get on Appa and fly, each one of them will shoot fire at us. Appa is quick, but not that quick, we won't be able to make it.

That's when I knew I would have make the ultimate sacrifice. "Asami! Come on! We need to go!" Sokka said as he grabbed my arm, but I pulled away before we could move. "No! You guys need to go! I'll hold them off!" I told Sokka while I got in battle stance. "Are you crazy!?! We're not leaving you here!" Sokka exclaimed, looking at me as if I'm crazy.

"We won't be able to escape with all this firepower!" I exclaimed in frustration. "You guys need to go while I hold them off!" I ordered Sokka, as I started blasting air at the soldiers. Sokka continued standing, looking at me, not knowing what to do. "Now Sokka!" I exclaimed in anger. Sokka groaned in annoyances before running over and running up Appa's tail.

"Yip yip! Yip yip!" Sokka yelled out, and before Aang or Katara could realize I wasn't with them, Appa whipped his tail and started flying. He flew up high before turning around and flew away from the ship. I watched them fly before I started airbending furiously at the Fire Nation soldier, either knocking them out, or blasting away or overboard. "Asami!" I didn't look up, knowing that was my worried brother, and continued fighting.

Aang continued calling out to me, but Sokka must have talked to him, because he soon stopped calling to me. I continued fighting until the last soldier finally got knocked out. But that was when the teenage soldier ordered what I expected earlier "Shoot them down!" I turned to him, and before I could stop him, he and his uncle firebended a huge blast of fire at them.

"No!" I cried out as shot air at it, trying to redirect it, but it was too late. I watched the fire heading towards them in fear, begging to the universe save my brother and my friends. Luckily, Aang saw the rage of flaming fire heading towards them. He grabbed his staff and used his strongest air swing to redirect the fire away from them. The fire then went from them to the tall iceberg, making an avalanche.

The soldier gasped at the coming avalanche and brazed himself. I looked up in shock, eyes widening as the snow and blocks of ice head towards me. Before it could hit me, I formed an air ball around me and closed my eyes tight as I brazed for impacted. The avalanche soon hit us, and luckily only the front of the ship was covered. Only a little bit of the snow come me, so I was luckily not completely berried.

"Good news for the Fire Lord!" The uncle said as he stood up, along with his nephew. "The Fire Nation's greatest threat, is just a little kid!" He added looking at his nephew. "That kid, Uncle, just did this!" The soldier said as he pointed at his berried ship. "And his sister took out my whole crew!" He added with a growl of annoyance. "I won't underestimate them again!"

"Dig this ship out and follow them!" The soldier ordered, but soon frowned when he saw his soldiers using fire to unfreeze the three soldiers Katara froze. "As soon as you're done with that." He said, turning his back to them, glaring at the direction where Aang went. Having enough with the snow, I blasted the snow away from me as I slowly stood up. They all gasped in surprise when they saw me, but they quickly came over it and surrounded me.

Tired and not having anywhere else to go, I raised my hands up in surrender and got down on my knees. The teenage soldier and his uncle walked over and stood in front of him. The uncle looked down at me in worry while his nephew glared down at me. "Are you okay miss?" The uncle asked me in worry, catching me by surprise. I frown at the man in confusion but it soon turned into a glare when his nephew step in front of my view with his own glare.

"I may not have the Avatar, but I do have his Protector!" He said as he glared down at me. "He won't go far without you." He added before looking at the soldiers behind me. "Take the Protector the prison hold!" He ordered them before looking back at me. "I'll come later to question you." I glared at as the soldiers took a hold of me.

"If you think for one second that I'm going to tell you where my brother is going, you're the dumbest person I've ever met!" I exclaimed as the soldiers tied my hands behind back. The soldier growled as he stepped closer to me. "Don't worry, I'll find a way to make you talk." He threatened as he made a fire in his hand and held it closed to me, but I didn't flinched. His uncle on the other hand, look worried and displeased at his nephew's behavior.

"Prince Zuko!" The uncle exclaimed as he pulled his nephew away from me. Prince? This teenage soldier in front of me is the Fire Nation Prince? Of coarse the Fire Lord will send out his own son to do his dirty work. This is going to be an interesting trip.

"Mind your manners! She is a women! You still need to treat her with respect!" His uncle exclaimed, looking at disappointed. "She knows where the Avatar is heading! If she won't tell me willingly, I'll make her!" Zuko exclaimed in anger, stepping towards me again, but his uncle pulled him back with his own glare.

"She's the Avatar's Protector, Prince Zuko! The Avatar's safety will always comes first for her! She stayed behind to fight the soldiers and hold them off while the Avatar could escape safely!" The uncle said to Zuko with a knowing glare. Zuko was looking at his uncle with an annoyed glare, while I was looking at him shocked.

"No matter what you do to her, she will not talk! You want to question her, then very well, asked her. But don't go and torture her for information! It will do nothing good to anyone!" The uncle said with one last glare, before walking away. Zuko growled in frustration before ordering his soldiers to take me away. He gave me one last death glare and stormed away.

I glared back at him, but while the soldiers where taking me away, I thought to myself how his own uncle saved me from getting tortured. Looks like there's still hope for the Fire Nation.
