@slybatspidow

Hello fellow Wattpadders! Today we have slybatspidow with us, the author of the book, It's Complicated.

I am Abhipreeti (_abhipreeti_), and I have interviewed Sly, a.k.a, slybatspidow.

Slybatspidow (aka Sly) is a writer of all things mystery and romance. She's been writing for more than a decade and still finds her passion lies in crafting stories that thrill readers - both psychologically and romantically.

At what age did you realize that you have a special place for writing? Are you currently or do you ever dream of one day being in the writing industry?

>>I was very young when I found a love of stories, but I think I was about 11 when I decided to get serious about writing and decided that's what I want to do in the future.

At the moment, I don't have anything published, but I have been submitting queries, so hopefully something will happen!

Did any story, on or off Wattpad, inspire you ever and help you carve your interest towards writing books?

>>Blitz. It's a story about a horse told from the viewpoint of the horse. It was the first book I read with more than a few chapters, and I was amazed by the writer's ability to bring the horse to life and make me feel so many things. I'm not sure when it was published because it was old when I was a kid.

What is the genre(s) in which you mostly write your books? Do you think you are able to create brilliant plots when you write in that specific genre(s)?

>>My favorite genre to write is mystery, but I'm told I write good romance, so I've been trying my hand at that more lately, and I always incorporate it into my mysteries.

What advice would you like to give to authors who are writing in the same genre(s) as yours?

>>Everyone's writing style is different, so for those that don't plot or do minimal plotting: write things down as you go. I know it can slow down your writing process some, but when you get to the wrap-up portion at the end, you'll be glad you did. That's me learning from my own mistakes!

Do you have any favourite quote or quotes from your book?

>>In chapter 13, about halfway through, Daisy is chatting with someone (no spoiler! you have to go read it!) and she tells them, "You say I don't have a reason. Give me one." That scene gives me chills every time!

Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?

>>10 years is a long time! I'd like to think I'm a published writer and a small business owner. (I love jewelry!)

Now let us talk about your book. How would you describe your story in five words? Could you please give us a brief summary of what your book is about? What makes your book different from other books in the same genre(s)?

>>In five words, love blossoms in unexpected places.

Daisy is looking forward to dating George on her 17th birthday, but enter Mario Lopez (not the celebrity!) - suave, grown-up, and interested in Daisy. It doesn't take much effort before Daisy is torn between two bad choices because, no matter what, someone is going to get hurt.

What I think makes my story different is that I focus on relationships outside the romantic ones and make an effort to focus on how the decisions are hard and try to make it as realistic as I could.

Which character or characters of your story do you relate to most? And why?

>>I relate most to Daisy. She's kind of like an alter ego.

How did you come up with such a fascinating plot? Were there any inspirations?

>>When I originally write the story, I had just discovered Sarah Dessen and wanted to write something like her while finding my style. Eventually I found it again and rewrote it in my current style, which I think works a lot better for the story.

How did you discover Wattpad? And what engendered you to begin writing on this platform? What do you like best about this application?

>>So funny story, that one. I have a friend who is a readaholic and she introduced me to Wattpad when she found out I like to write. At the time, I had a lot going on, so I wrote a fiction story based on what was going on. I've since unpublished it, pending a rewrite, but it felt good to finally share my writing somewhere.

I think that and the community is what I like best. The community built here I think is one of the best I've ever come across.

When did you start writing on Wattpad? How has your writing journey been ever since then?

>>I started writing here towards the end of 2017. Since then, I've had the pleasure of meeting several wonderful authors (like MiniMoxx and katrin_writes) and have the privilege of supporting writers through a community profile like this one, as well as through the Ambassador program. If you'd asked me in 2017, I never would have thought I'd be where I am.

What is your writing process and how do you cope when writers' block hits you?

>>My process changes with each story. Sometimes I get an idea for a story plot and write according to that, other times, I get the opening to a story in my head and then see where it takes me.

When I get writers' block, I try to write through it. I remind myself of where I want the story to go, read others' stories both on and off Wattpad that are similar in genre to what I'm writing, and usually those things help.

Are you a pantser or a plotter? During which time of the day do you usually write?

>>Definitely a pantser! I never know exactly how a story is going to go. I know this sounds odd, but I write better when I'm tired. So late at night or early morning is when I write the most.

What would be your advice to young and budding authors, who are just beginning their journey on Wattpad and are quite new to the writing world?

>>Don't get discouraged. Some writers, like me, start of really slow. Some writers take off at an amazing rate. If you don't get all the reads right away, your time will come. Participate in contests, interact with Wattpad and community profiles - that will also help get you out there. Also, don't be shy! That story sitting on your desktop that you haven't read without cringing since you wrote it last year? Sometimes those are the best stories.

Is there any author(s) on Wattpad whom you look up to as an amazing writer?

>>Definitely MiniMoxx. She is a writer that I've seen grow and I'm excited to see her books in the store when she gets published!

Could we please have two or more Wattpad story recommendations? What do you like most about these stories?

>>Ooh it's hard to narrow it down to just two! Followed by jandralee is amazing, and so is the Storm and Silence series by RobThier.

What would be the three words to describe yourself as an author?

>>Passionate, dedicated, and outgoing, I think.

Thank you so much! It was an honour to have you here for the interview conducted by Kalon Community. We wish you lots of success on your writing journey and may you flourish more. Thank you once again!
