@MiniMoxx
Hello fellow Wattpadders! Today we have MiniMoxx with us, the author of the book, One More Fight.
I am Abhipreeti (_abhipreeti_), and I have interviewed Alex, a.k.a, MiniMoxx.
MiniMoxx is a traditional published author from the UK. She writes contemporary romance mixed with other genres, and will always guarantee a happy ending!
At what age did you realize that you have a special place for writing? Are you currently or do you ever dream of one day being in the writing industry?
>>I realised when I was around 8 years old that I wanted to write. I started writing short stories, but I'd always had an active imagination! Once I started, I never stopped! My university degree is also in writing, so it's always been my passion. Fortunately, I'm in the process of having a book published at the moment, with the possibility of more by the same published, so I'm hoping to really stay in the industry!
Did any story, on or off Wattpad, inspire you ever and help you carve your interest towards writing books?
>>It's got to be "The Pact" by Jodi Picoult. It was my first "meaty" book so to speak, and to this day, my favourite book. Picoult is my favourite author, and inspires me in every way to mix up genres, and have a bit of everything in every story. She's amazing, really.
What is the genre(s) in which you mostly write your books? Do you think you are able to create brilliant plots when you write in that specific genre(s)?
>>I always say my main "genre" is contemporary romance because in every story there is a romance at the heart of the plot, but I always add another element (or 5! haha) in. So you'll find a mystery, or a slice of life, or drama, or sometimes fantasy. I find my passion really comes through and the brilliant plots come through when I am really mixing things up and making the romance important but not the main plot device.
What advice would you like to give to authors who are writing in the same genre(s) as yours?
>>Emotions are the most important in romance! Always go emotion first and explore them all!
Do you have any favourite quote or quotes from your book?
>>This one from One More Fight, chapter 24: "The lotus flower is one of the most opulent in the universe because it will bloom into one of the most beautiful flowers even when it's in the swampy and dirty waters."
Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?
>>I'm hoping with a few published books and hopefully them sitting in the physical book stores. The ultimate dream is to be a bestseller, so hopefully! You never know!
Now let us talk about your book. How would you describe your story in five words? Could you please give us a brief summary of what your book is about? What makes your book different from other books in the same genre(s)?
>>My book is One More Fight, and in five words I'd describe it as: dramatic, second-chance, emotional, healing and real.
My short summary is: When former lovers and current enemies, Adelaide and Fletcher are held hostage in a bank robbery, they realise they need to put their past hatred for each other behind them to help them move forward from past hurts, and find they might just still harbour romantic feelings for each other.
I think what makes my plot different is that it encapsulates the themes of toxicity within relationships, explores them and turns them into a point for healing. It uses the tropes of second chance romance, forced proximity and makes them feel relatable and real. A lot of books I find makes characters magically heal each other, and I try and explore that in a real sense, and how people can HELP each other heal from trauma, but it takes a lot more than just love. I hope i've done that justice anyway! And all encapsulated in a forced proximity, second chance romance - with plenty of drama!
Which character or characters of your story do you relate to most? And why?
>>I relate a lot to Fletcher the most. On the surface because I'm a writer like him, but also because he's been through a lot of traumatic instances and he felt it, and still feels it in the present. He views the world in a very deep way, and i think i do as well. I look for the depth in things and overthink waaaaay too much!
How did you come up with such a fascinating plot? Were there any inspirations?
>>One More Fight was purely inspired by the song "Robbers" by The 1975 (my favourite band). I saw Fletcher and Adelaide in my mind when listening to the song and kept listening and listening (my music app hates me after this!) until i worked out their stories and plot. I filled in the blanks I had after developing their plot.
How did you discover Wattpad? And what engendered you to begin writing on this platform? What do you like best about this application?
>>I found WP in 2012 after old writing site Inkpop closed! I've been on here ever since. I really like the community feel on here and the uplifting sense of the readers and writers I know on here!
When did you start writing on Wattpad? How has your writing journey been ever since then?
>>I started writing on here immediately after I joined, but i took a long break until 2019 when I came back full time with new books and plots I'd been writing offline. Ever since it's sort of flourished. I was a part of the Creators and Paid programs here, I also had one book published. Now I'm about to have a new book published traditionally. All thanks to the help of writers and readers here.
What is your writing process and how do you cope when writers' block hits you?
>>I write every day, or if i'm unable to fully write, i will plot out the next scene/chapter. I put music on, sit at the desk and just write until I can't anymore. Then I run through a quick edit for the chapter. Writer's block luckily doesn't hit me a lot, but when it hits, it hits HARD. I usually go out for a long walk, take a shower or play a video game until it resolves itself!
Are you a pantser or a plotter? During which time of the day do you usually write?
>>I'm a bit of both! I plan the overarching plot and a few major scenes I want to write, but then make it up as i go along. When i near the end of a book, I plan out each chapter with a little wiggle room for taking out something or adding things in. I usually write at night when my son has gone to sleep as it's my most peaceful time!
What would be your advice to young and budding authors, who are just beginning their journey on Wattpad and are quite new to the writing world?
>>You can never edit a blank page! A first draft of anything is MEANT to be messy, so don't worry about it! I always think the first draft is for basic plot, the next draft is tightening it up to a better plot, and then anything after that is making it more like the book you want it to be.
Is there any author(s) on Wattpad whom you look up to as an amazing writer?
>>A few! AliasTummas1 is amazing! She's pure class in every plot. AnnamitaMuscaria is also an amazing writer - her descriptions amaze me! AtheinaVismark is fantastic even if she doesn't believe it! Oxviola will never believe me, but he's truly gifted. Korra_99 is purely amazing. I also mentored areal_16 for Bootcamp Mentorship this year (2023) for her book "Always You" and her story crafting is amazing!
Could we please have two or more Wattpad story recommendations? What do you like most about these stories?
>>"In My Skin" by Korra_99 - amazing, amazing. She captivated me from the first page and I love every chapter. The characters are real, the plot is epic. I love it.
My favourite Wattpad book - "After the Sun Sets" by AliasTummas1 (who is probably bored of seeing me promo this hehe) but it inspired me, and is pure class. I need to see this published so i can have my own paper copy. It's truly awe inspiring.
(I will keep it strictly to 2 because I have so many I could recommend I would be here forever hehe).
What would be the three words to describe yourself as an author?
>>Dramatic, emotional, romantic.
Thank you so much! It was an honour to have you here for the interview conducted by Kalon Community. We wish you lots of success on your writing journey and may you flourish more. Thank you once again!
