So this one is close to my heart, I don't know why. Basically, a third year Gryffindor sees the young Marauders and decides that she will protect and take care of them. When she learns they're trying to be Animagi, she follows suit. Obviously, she turns out to be a bear. It's not until her 7th year (their 5th) that they figure it out. You should do a time skip to after James and Lily are dead and just have her go through the Second War as an angry mama bear (cause all her children die basically). Please don't forget that Peter is a Marauder and she loves him too.
