Interview with @Aamenah456

Where are you from?

The Rainy United Kingdom!

How old are you?

21 years young.

What and who inspired you into reading and/or writing?

I wouldn't say anyone specifically inspired me to read or write. I was born a bookwork but I definitely would say that my work is inspired by things that have happened in my life.

What was the first book that you read that started your love for reading?

Erm, I would probably say the Narnia series got me started, but I remember reading the Harry Potter series and that's when things became serious.

What was the turning point in your life that you decided to take your writing seriously?

Ooh, that's difficult to say. I used to write when I was 13, then started again when I was 16 but last year was the year when I decided to reconnect with the online community and attempt to make this dream come true.

What is the inspiration for your stories?

My life. It's as simple as that. I've faced many adversities, had hundreds of experiences, and seen even more, whether it's on my trip to the groceries or my commute on the day. My work is an accumulation of it all.

Do you outline your stories or write whatever comes to mind?

Both depend on the plot, my target audience, and how long I have had the idea. I tend to write freestyle the first half of the book, and that's when things become developed. What you see on Wattpad has probably been edited and re-written at least 4 times before I have the confidence to upload it.

What is your method of beginning to writing a book?

It's really hard to say and I wish I had a method because it would make passing through writer's block so much easier. I guess it's whenever I have had a spark or felt intense emotion, I tend to write from the heart and often the story just develops from there.

Do you ever get attached to the characters in your story? If so, what part of their personality or quirks do you find relatable?

YES! 100%. As I mentioned earlier, my books are often based on a lot of facts or experiences, so it would be a total lie if I didn't center the characters around people I know, or even myself. For example, in my book Charlie and Dia, Dia talks to people on the train and the whole concept of that was developed because that is a "quirk" if that's what you can call it, that I love to do. My characters are often a reflection of my current emotions, and I write chapters based on how I feel, so they will always hold a special place in my heart.

Do you base your characters on people in your personal life, imagination, or both?

Yes...they are based on people I know, but I add the backstories and my own little twist to the point that they are totally different, and I alone maintain that connection.

What is the best part of writing a story?

Knowing that there are people out there who want to read it <3

How do you deal with writer's block?

I don't! I am pretty much miserable until something hits me in the face. It can take an hour or even months. There is no cure but a great cup of tea always helps me feel better.

Would you want to see your story or stories be adapted? If so, who would you want to play your characters?

Yes for sure! It would be interesting to see Charlie and Dia out on the screen but part of me doesn't mind if it stays in book form. Purely because I feel that a lot of the magic could be taken away from an adaptation, and a book will always be solely mine if that makes sense? I have selected people to play parts but in all honesty, I have never imagined their faces when I write. They just fit the brief, so I guess I don't know who would play my characters.

What kind of advice would you give to an aspiring writer?

Everyone has a story, only a few have the power to note it down, so freaking go for it!

Are you working on a new story?

Yes, I am always, always working on a story! Whether it's any good is a totally different matter but the pen is always in my hand, so to speak.
