Interview 51
Where are you from?
Hi, my name is Holly Brewer and I am from Australia
How old are you?
I am 16, and it was my birthday recently and no one has asked me about my age, so I feel so happy to answer this question
What and who inspired you into reading and/or writing?
Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, and little mix, because although they aren't exactly authors, they are people who are real through their songs, which is a form of writing.
What was the first book that you read that started your love for reading?
Little Mix Our World
What was the turning point in your life that you decided to take your writing seriously?
I used to write Lezibel when I was about 12 and I only incorporated things like love and evil. I didn't have very much understanding of I guess emotions and themes which come with maturity as you grow, you start to understand why people are certain ways. I no longer wanted to just tell a story I wanted to inspire people.
What is the inspiration for your stories?
My inspiration is inspirational messages and morals which I think you can see a lot of in Lezibel.
Do you outline your stories or write whatever comes to mind?
I write whatever comes to mind, because if I'm not excited about what's coming next in my story, how will my reader be? I get excited to write because I wanna see what happens next, so whatever comes to mind obviously in context, is put into the story.
What is your method of beginning to writing a book?
Just the overall feel, message, and genre. I feel as if once I've got those down, characters start to stem with their own stories, making a full tree which is eventually a story that I hope you guys will enjoy.
Do you ever get attached to the characters in your story? If so, what part of their personality or quirks do you find relatable?
Yes, every character in my new series Lezibel is so important to me and I think I produce my best work with them. I promote this story so much because I am so passionate about Lezibel and Sarah and even Lilith. They are all different dynamics but they are so strong in their own ways. I am so attached to their stories that the other day, I was writing season three of the series, which only season one is out at the moment, but I literally almost cried when I wrote about one of the characters because I felt what they were feeling. The season finale to Lezibel which is airing on Friday is very emotional and I cried when writing it because like I said, I write as I go and at that moment I didn't know what was gonna happen.
Do you base your characters on people in your personal life, imagination, or both?
I base my characters on my imagination and the people I wanna meet. I think about past characters sometimes and tweak them to a way they aren't easily pointed out but they are an inspiration.
What is the best part of writing a story?
Seeing people comment and feel what your story is telling. The other day I got a message back telling me that they love Lezibel because it is so feminist orientated. My heart melted and I felt so accomplished because I wanted people to see that in the story, that is what's so amazing about wattpad.
How do you deal with writer's block?
Just rest your mind, take a break, and don't stress. Give yourself time and eventually, your story will knock on your door and say, hi, I wasn't finished.
Would you want to see your story or stories be adapted? If so, who would you want to play your characters?
If Lezibel was adapted into a TV show, the same way I've written it, I would be beyond happy. I would love someone badass to play Lezibel and Sarah.
What kind of advice would you give to an aspiring writer?
Keep dreaming, keep writing, don't give up, and be yourself. Let your characters shine and reflect who you are.
Are you working on a new story?
Yes, it's historical fiction actually, and if you love Greek mythology you'll love this. Thank you so much for interviewing me and Lezibel's season finale is out Friday
